EXPLORE THE Y Why the Y The Y is an association of people who have committed to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all people, regardless of their ability to pay. We are a non-profit, charitable organization established to provide programs and services to youth, adults and families in order to strengthen the community. The YMCA is funded locally. Funds raised through contributions, endowments and membership fees are used to provide services in Will, Grundy and part of Kendall Counties. Your Y Membership Offers All This and More! Everyone belongs at the YMCA! We’re more than just a place to work out; more than a place where families can spend quality time together; more than a place to learn to swim; more than a place for kids to play team sports; and more than a place for seniors to stay young at heart. We’re all those things and more. We’re a place where you belong!

Those who agree with the mission of the YMCA, but choose not to take advantage of year-round facility use, may purchase a program membership. Program Members pay a low fee each year in order to be able to register for YMCA programs, but pay as much as twice the cost for YMCA programs and pay daily to use YMCA facilities. Program Members must also wait until two weeks before the start of each session to register for programs.

Member Code of Conduct In support of our Christian character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, all members are expected to behave appropriately while using YMCA facilities and abide by the Member Code of Conduct and Discipline Policy. Those who choose to act inappropriately, as defined by YMCA staff, may be asked to leave the building. Repeat offenses may lead to a membership suspension or revocation of all privileges.

Program Members who choose to become Full Members will receive a credit for the remaining portion of their program membership, as well as a credit for the difference between the Full Member and Program Member rates for any programs in which they are currently enrolled, if the membership upgrade occurs within the first two weeks of the session.

AWAY Program - Always Welcome at the YMCA When you travel outside of the greater Joliet area, you can use your Y membership at more than 2,000 locations across the country. YMCA Swim Lesson Policies and Procedures

1. The first day of each session is reserved for swim testing and evaluations. All appropriate changes will be made to ensure quality instruction for your child. If you have a question about your child’s swim level after the first day of class, please speak to your child’s instructor. 2. Children will be moved up to the next level once all of the skills in the previous level have been mastered. Many skills in certain levels are dependent on physical development, strength and coordination. The Aquatics Department reserves the right to cancel and/or combine classes due to low enrollment.

Make-up Lessons and Swim Credit

FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Giving back and providing support to our neighbors.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT Meet J.P. Fox

J.P. Fox and his family joined the C.W. Avery Family YMCA many years ago thanks to the financial assistance they received from the Y’s scholarship program. Ever since, J.P. has spent countless hours within the confines of our pool—first for swim lessons, then as a Porpoise Club swimmer, and now as a YMCA lifeguard. The Y, J.P. says, has become his home away from home. The people inside have become his second family. At the 2011 Giving Gala, J.P.’s mother Jackie spoke about the impact the Y had on her family, inspiring many guests to make a donation to the Y’s scholarship fund. Nearly five years removed from that night, J.P., now 17, has decided to pay it forward with a contribution of his own. Recently, he made a very generous donation to the Y’s Annual Campaign. “I was once part of a family that needed a scholarship to go here,” he said. “I feel like it’s my time to give back to the Y and help people who need it. Hopefully they will get the same opportunities I did. To have a second home and family.” You can make a similar impact in the life of a YMCA family. Funds raised during the 2016 Annual Campain will benefit the Y’s scholarship fund, ensuring no one is turned away from the Y due to the inability to pay. Donate today!

For more information on how you can make a tax deductible donation to the YMCA, please contact: C.W. AVERY Family YMCA Dori Fugate Community Engagement Director Phone: (815) 267-8600, ext. 210 Email: dfugate@jolietymca.org Funds donated to the Y’s annual Campaign help to ensure that no one is turned away from the Y due to the inability to pay. 42 l 2016 C.W. IGNITE YOUR PASSION Volunteer Opportunities at the YMCA

The generosity of others is at the core of the Y’s existence. It is only through the support of our hundreds of thousands of volunteers and public and private donors that we are able to give back to the communities we serve. Volunteers at the Greater Joliet Area YMCA: • Lead our Board of Directors, Board of Trustees, Committees and Branch Advisory Councils • Raise funds to ensure the Y is accessible to all members of our community • Plan our annual Giving Gala • Coach our youth sports teams • Motivate and support youths in our teen programs to help them build the character strengths, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health, smart life choices, and the pursuit of higher education and goals • Participate in opportunities to give back and support our neighbors through community service projects and events Our volunteers play an important role in the success, quality and quantity of the programs we offer. We welcome and appreciate anyone 16 years of age or older who volunteers his or her time and expertise. A background check must be completed before volunteers are allowed to participate in any Y program or activity. To begin volunteering at the Y, please contact: Dori Fugate, Community Engagement Director dfugate@jolietymca.org (815) 267-8600, ext. 210
