ON THE COVER

C.W. Avery Family YMCA members Tasha Kitson and Eric Marsaglia were the lucky winners of the ‘We Love the YMCA’ live auction item at the Giving Gala in February. Tasha, Eric and their kids, Graysen (5), Caelynn (5), Brock (6) and Rome (9), love spending time together at the YMCA. All four kids are active in the Y’s youth sports programs, while Tasha and Eric enjoy using the Fitness Center. Eric has also volunteered his time over the years to coach many of the kids’ flag football, soccer and t-ball teams. Thank you, Tasha and Eric, for being loyal members and true champions of the YMCA in the Plainfield community.

TOGETHER,

WE CAN CREATE A BETTER US The lemonade stand: An age-old summertime institution built upon tradition and youthful charm, not to mention a tasty, tasty beverage. Or as kids see it: A fun way to spend their time on a hot summer day. When nine-year-old Madison Hock asked her mother, Jennifer, if she could take part in such a tradition, mom said sure, but under one condition: All proceeds from the lemonade stand have to be donated to a charitable organization. Madison agreed, deciding the money should benefit the place that hosts her favorite sports clinics and camps—the Morris YMCA. Soon afterward, Madison’s Lemonade Stand officially opened for business with two options on the menu. For a quarter, customers could purchase a delicious cup of old-fashioned lemonade. For fifty cents, they could get a world-class slushy. Madison’s enterprise was inevitably a hit. Thanks to her hard work and thirstquenching drinks, Madison raised $72 for the Morris YMCA. A few days later, Madison and Jennifer made their donation to the Y’s Annual Campaign. We were truly moved by such a selfless act! Because of Madison’s generosity, people throughout Grundy County will have more opportunities to experience what the Y has to offer. Way to go, Madison! If you’re interested in making a tax-deductible contribution to support the Morris YMCA, here are some different ways to give: Annual Campaign Donate to the Y’s Annual Campaign! Every dollar donated to Morris YMCA has a lasting impact on the people in our community. Giving Gala Attend the 2017 Giving Gala on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Bolingbrook Golf Club. This is your opportunity to spend time with our coaches to learn new drills, improve your swimming skills and meet members of the JETS family. Swimmers do not need to be YMCA members to participate in the clinic. At the completion of the clinic, swimmers who wish to join the team will be given a group placement along with registration materials. September 14-16

JETS Flight School Swim Club (Ages 5-12)

JETS Flight School is an introductory, pre-competitive experience to the Joliet Y JETS Swim Team. An experienced swim coach will work with swimmers to develop proper technique in each of the competitive strokes. In addition, students will learn new skills, such as streamlines and racing dives. Swimmers must have the endurance to swim one length of the pool without a flotation device while demonstrating rotary breathing and the ability to float comfortably and confidently on their stomach and back. Swimmers should be evaluated before registering to ensure that Flight School is an appropriate option.

Please note: These programs take place at the Morris High School pool. 9/20-10/27 11/1-12/15
