WHY THE Y The Y is an association of people who have committed to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all people, regardless of their ability to pay. We are a non-profit, charitable organization established to provide programs and services to youth, adults and families in order to strengthen the community. The YMCA is funded locally. Funds raised through contributions, endowments and membership fees are used to provide services in Will, Grundy and part of Kendall Counties.

GREATER JOLIET AREA YMCA MISSION STRONG FUND For more than 90 years, the Greater Joliet Area YMCA has worked hand-in-hand with our neighbors to bring about meaningful change in our community. Even during times of crisis, the Y has found ways to support children, families and seniors living in the communities we serve.

HOW THE Y IS HELPING OUR COMMUNITY COMMUNITY HEALTH • The YMCA is offering free virtual fitness classes daily to ensure area residents can continue to embrace healthy lifestyles during this time.

HUNGER RELIEF • The Y is partnering with the Northern Illinois Food Bank to host mobile food pantries to ensure local residents have access to much-needed nourishment. MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT • To support those who are searching for ways to cope with anxiety and stress during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Y is partnering with a local clinical professional counselor to host weekly discussions via Zoom as part of its Feelings Matter Conversation Series. YOUTH DEVELOPMENT • To support busy parents and to keep

children engaged when they aren’t participating in remote learning activities, the YMCA launched its Keeping Kids Connected initiative, which provides enrichment activities for kids of all ages using everyday materials families can find around their home.

SPIRITUAL SUPPORT • In keeping with our Christian mission and to support our community during these very uncertain times, the Y is hosting daily prayer calls. Led by a Y staff member, volunteer, or a local clergy, these calls continue to be a great source of daily reflection and encouragement.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH • Because we know the importance

of keeping a healthy mind, body and spirit, YMCA staff and volunteers are reaching out to members of our community to stay connected and to provide a listening ear during these uncertain times. 2 l 2020 Summer Program Guide — Morris Community YMCA

DONATE TO THE Y TODAY When our communities begin to reopen, the Y will once again assume its place as a welcoming center, providing residents of all ages with an opportunity to regain a sense of safety and connectedness. But, as a result of our COVID-19-related closure, the Y will need your financial support to ensure that our mission can continue to thrive in communities throughout Will and Grundy Counties. Please consider making a charitable gift to the Greater Joliet Area YMCA’s Mission Strong Fund to help ensure the long-term sustainability of our YMCA. Donate today by visiting www.jolietymca.org or mail your gift to: YMCA Mission Strong Fund 749 Houbolt Road Joliet, IL 60431 The Greater Joliet Area YMCA is a registered 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization; tax ID#36-2169197.
