Centering on a re-issue of award-winning filmmaker Stanley Nelson’s 1987 documentary, this program remains entertaining, informative, and educational today, combining interviews, historical stills and unique film footage, including scenes from Harlem’s famous Cotton Club. Newly added to the documentary is an interview with Stanley Nelson and A’lelia Bundles, Madam C.J. Walker’s great-granddaughter as they discuss Madam Walker’s philanthropy and social activism, two topics only briefly discussed in Two Dollars and a Dream.
Joe Bonamassa: Live from the Royal Albert Hall
Tuesday, December 6 at 9:30pm; Saturday, December 10 at 8:30pm This program captures the intensity and excitement of the sold-out show that marked Bonamassa’s headlining debut at arguably the most prestigious concert venue in the world. WTIU will be offering tickets to see Joe Bonamassa at the Murat Theatre in Indianapolis on Saturday, May 5, 2012 as thank you gifts.

The Kabbalah of Chanukah Sunday, December 18, 8 pm
wfiu.org
Jews around the world celebrate the eight-day cycle of Chanukah— the “festival of lights”—at the darkest time of the year. For centuries, Jewish mystics have found deep spiritual meaning in every aspect of the holiday. The Kabbalah of Chanukah continues this tradition, exploring the holiday’s mystical treasures. The program weaves a tapestry of mystical tales, teachings from the Estelle Frankel. Kabbalah, and Jewish sacred music from around the world. Cantor Richard Kaplan and Kabbalistic psychotherapist Estelle Frankel take you on a journey into music, stories, and teachings and the profound lessons of this festive time. In addition to being a cantor, co-host Kaplan is also a jazz virtuoso, and the music on the program comes from his life performances and from his recordings Life of the Worlds, and Tuning the Soul. He has performed professionally as a singer, songwriter, and pianist for more than 40 years.

Save Taxes! IRA Charitable Rollover Extended
Congress has once again extended the popular IRA charitable rollover act until December 31, 2011. This legislation lets you make a tax-free gift directly from your IRA account to a qualified charitable organization, such as WTIU, and avoid the tax liability that would be incurred by the need to report your mandatory annual IRA pay out as taxable income.
What are the requirements and restrictions for making this gift?
• You must be 70½ or older. • The gift must be made directly from the IRA to a qualified charitable organization. • Gifts cannot exceed a total of $100,000 for the year. • The gift is not included in taxable income — but no charitable income tax deduction is allowed. • The gift can only be made from an IRA account. (401(k), 403(b), and 457 plans are not permitted.) Is this the right gift for you to make? Yes, if: • You do not need additional income from your IRA, you can benefit because the transfer will count toward your minimum distribution requirement. • You do not itemize, you can make a gift without the gift amount being included as taxable income. • You have, or would like to make, contributions in excess of the annual 50% limitation on deductibility for charitable contributions.
What steps should you take to make a gift? In most cases, your IRA custodian or plan administrator can provide a simple form. You may also contact Carmella Hise in the Office of Gift Planning at the IU Foundation at (812) 855-6095 or (800) 558-8311, or by email at chise@indiana.edu for directions on how to initiate the transfer or other questions related to the rollover. As always, you can contact Nancy Krueger at (812) 855-2935 or nkrueger@indiana.edu with any questions about giving opportunities at WTIU.

Do more than watch TV,
Experience it!
WTIU brings the best in music, theater, dance, and art to people across south and central Indiana that might otherwise never have the opportunity to experience them. This month WTIU will air a variety of specials— ranging from local topics like Indiana Legends: Madam C.J. Walker to national productions like Great Performances: Andrea Bocelli Live in Central Park and Straight No Chaser - Songs of the Decades: Holiday Edition. Laughter will fill your home on Saturday, December 3rd when WTIU presents Victor Borge: Comedy in Music - featuring recently re-discovered skits from The Andy Williams Show and Perry Como Show, a classic performance from Dwight D. Eisenhower’s inaugural celebration, and touching, heart-felt stories by his five children.
And if you’re a fan of rock music, ‘60s Pop, Rock & Soul: My Music airs Saturday, December 3rd at 8pm; Monday, December 5th at 1pm; and Wednesday, December 7th at 9pm and features hits and favorites of the AM radio era. Not to mention specials on Paul Simon and Buddy Holly. WTIU will have a limited number of tickets to see Joe Bonamassa at the Murat Theatre in Indianapolis on 5/5/12. Watch Joe Bonamassa: Live from the Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday, December 6th at 9:30pm or Saturday, December 10th at 8:30pm to get your tickets. A member commented, “It makes me feel good to give to WTIU--an organization that provides so much for so many.” What are your favorite public television experiences?
