This Month’s Highlights Queen & Country Sundays, July 1-22 at 8pm
In 2012, all eyes are on Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s secondlongest-reigning monarch, as England marks Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee. Join veteran newsman Sir Trevor McDonald as he looks at the traditions and institutions surrounding the monarchy, from Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace through the queen’s royal visits…to some of the greatest historic royal palaces.
Michael Wood’s Story of England Tuesdays, July 3 at 8pm and 9pm; July 10-17 8pm
Visit the village of Kibworth, Leicestershire, with historian Michael Wood as he tells the 2,000-year-old story of how this one settlement throughout English history. Kibworth, located in the heart of England, lived through the Black Death, the English Civil War, the Industrial Revolution and World War II. Intertwining the local and national narratives, Wood presents a moving and informative picture of one local community through time.
A Capitol Fourth (2012) Wednesday, July 4 at 8pm
Celebrate America’s birthday with this Independence Day tradition. Tom Bergeron takes the helm as the new host of the star-spangled affair, which features an inspiring Olympic tribute to Team USA and performances by Megan Hilty, Javier Colon, Kool & the Gang, Kelli O’Hara and the National Symphony Orchestra, topped off by the greatest display of fireworks anywhere in the nation.

Fiesta! is devoted to the hidden pleasures and magical rhythms of concert music from Latin America, Spain, and Portugal. Each hour presents music from the 16th to the 21st centuries, providing a platform for the sound, culture, and history of classical music in Latin America—a genre that does not typically receive much exposure.
Miles Hoffman, music commentator for NPR’s Morning Edition, welcomes you to a new series of chamber music concerts from the Spoleto Festival USA. The series presents world class performances from the intimate setting of the historic Dock Street Theatre in Charleston, South Carolina.
Tune in each week for the music of Haydn, The series also offers little-known treasures from Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and others. the Latin American Baroque era, and celebrates Geoff Nuttall, Spoleto Festival artistic director, the classical guitar through the music of Agustin provides lively commentary from the stage. Barrios, Antonio Lauro, and Leo Brouwer. Each one-hour concert features vibrant young stars, including cellist Alisa Weilerstein and The host is Uruguayan-born composer, pianist Inon Barnatan, performing with veteran musician, performer Elbio Barilari. artists such as flutist Tara Helen O’Connor, clarinetist Todd Palmer, pianist Pedja Muzijevic, and the St. Lawrence String Quartet.

Starting on Monday, July 16 at 9pm, treasure hunters embark on an antiques adventure in Market Warriors, a new series from the producers of Antiques Roadshow, the hit PBS series and forerunner of television’s antiques and collectibles genre. In Market Warriors, four pickers travel to different markets across the country to purchase items with a set amount of money, and use their knowledge and skills to see who can make the most profit at auction. Fred Willard (Best in Show, A Mighty Wind) is Market Warrior’s’ offscreen host, offering wry commentary throughout the show. Over the course of the season, viewers will get to know the pickers, enjoy an up-close look at the fierce competition in each episode and obstacles they face in the marketplace each week, and make their best guesses about who will come out ahead at the end of each episode.
Meet the Pickers (l to r):
John Bruno is an industry veteran: an antiques and collectibles dealer and collector for 40 years, and an appraiser for more than 25 years. John runs one of the largest antiques show promotion/ management organizations in the Northeast. Miller Gaffney’s eye for antiques and collecting was honed over the years at places such as Sotheby’s Institute of Art. She is a licensed appraiser and the proprietor of an art advisory service that she founded in 2006. Bob Richter is a lifelong collector with the sensibility of an interior designer. Bob lives in New York City, where he is a regular at local flea markets and furniture shops. Kevin Bruneau has owned and operated an antiques business for more than two decades and is fluent in the world of buying and selling antiques and collectibles in the online marketplace.
