Peter Weir The success of his 1982 drama The Year of Living Dangerously led Weir to direct a diverse group of American and international films including Witness, which earned him his first Oscar nomination as Best Director and was the first of his films to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. That was followed by Dead Poets Society, The Truman Show, and Master and Commander. His most recent picture is The Way Back. Jon Vickers, director of the IU Cinema, hosts.

Life insurance makes an extraordinary charitable gift by Nancy Krueger, Gifts and Grants Officer
When the original purpose for a life insurance policy no longer applies—such as educating children now grown or providing financial security for a spouse now deceased—your policy can become a powerful way to support WTIU. There are three ways to give life insurance to WTIU through the Indiana University Foundation:
Name WTIU as a beneficiary of the policy. This is as simple as updating your beneficiary designation form with the policy holder. You can designate WTIU as the primary beneficiary for a percentage or specific amount, or make us the contingent beneficiary so that we will receive the balance of your policy only if your primary beneficiary doesn’t survive you.
Make an outright gift of an existing policy. You can name us as owner and beneficiary of an existing policy. You may receive a federal income tax charitable deduction and reduce your future estate tax liability. If you continue to pay premiums on the policy, each payment is tax deductible as a charitable gift.
Make an outright gift of a new policy. You can take out a new policy and name WTIU as the owner and the beneficiary of the insurance contract. This method may be attractive for the younger donor. To complete your gift, contact your insurance company or go online to complete a beneficiary designation form. Remember, a beneficiary designation is always revocable should your circumstances change. When considering any charitable arrangements, it’s always wise to consult a trusted financial or legal advisor. Contact nkrueger@indiana.edu or call 812-855-2935 with any questions about gift opportunities at WTIU.

Poldark on MASTERPIECE Sundays, June 21 to August 2 at 9pm
Almost 40 years ago Captain Ross Poldark galloped across the TV screens of millions of PBS viewers, vexing villains and winning female hearts in one of MASTERPIECE’s earliest hit series, Poldark. Now the gallant captain rides again in eight exciting episodes, allowing a new generation to delight in the exploits of this unconventional romantic hero. Aidan Turner (The Hobbit) stars as Poldark, a redcoat who returns to Cornwall after the American Revolutionary War to discover that his father is dead, his lands are ruined, and his true love is about to marry his first cousin. Eleanor Tomlinson (Death Comes to Pemberley) is the fiery servant Demelza, a strong-willed miner’s daughter who runs away from home and finds refuge in Poldark’s enlightened household. Co-starring are Bleak House’s Warren Clarke as Poldark’s prosperous, duplicitous Uncle Charles; Ruby Bentall (The Paradise) as Charles’s tenderhearted daughter, Verity; Kyle Soller as Verity’s ineffectual brother, Francis; and Heida Reed as Francis’s fiancée, Elizabeth Chenoweth,
the beautiful young woman who gave Poldark her ring as a love token before he left for America. Also appearing are Phil Davis and Beatie Edney as Poldark’s comical hired hands. Robin Ellis, who starred as Ross Poldark in MASTERPIECE’s original series, plays Reverend Halse, the village’s sinobsessed parson. Poldark is based on a beloved series of novels by Winston Graham that he published from 1945 to a year before his death in 2002. All twelve books trace the fortunes of a landed, mine-owning family in windswept Cornwall two centuries ago.
