Psychologist and ex-FBI profiler Inger Johanne Vik finds herself and her autistic daughter drawn into an investigation surrounding a series of disturbing and brutal deaths in Stockholm. As she works with local detective Ingvar Nyman to find the culprit, a pattern becomes evident as the number of murders increase. Modus

This Month’s Highlights Great Performances at the Met - Marnie Friday, February 1 at 9pm Watch composer Nico Muhly’s reimagining of Winston Graham’s novel about a beautiful, mysterious woman who assumes multiple identities. Mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard sings the enigmatic Marnie, and baritone Christopher Maltman is the man who pursues her—with disastrous results. Robert Spano conducts.

Sealab: American Experience Tuesday, February 5 at 9pm On a February day in 1969, off the shore of northern California, a US Navy crane carefully lowered 300 tons of metal into the Pacific Ocean. The massive tubular structure was an audacious feat of engineering—a pressurized underwater habitat, complete with science labs and living quarters for an elite group of divers who hoped to spend days or even months at a stretch living and working on the ocean floor. Sealab tells the little-known story of the daring program that tested the limits of human endurance and revolutionized the way humans explore the ocean.

Margaret: The Rebel Princess Sunday, February 10 and 17 at 10pm This compelling two-part documentary profiles Princess Margaret, whose life and loves reflected the social and sexual revolution that transformed Britain during the 20th century. With sumptuous archive and a series of revealing interviews, the series follows Margaret’s life as she redefined our image of the modern princess. This deeply personal account reveals how Princess Margaret’s character combined the rebellious force of modernity and respect for tradition.

Nature - Wild Way of the Vikings Wednesday, February 13 at 8pm Experience the natural world through the eyes of the Vikings, when nature meets history in a journey showcasing the wildlife of the North Atlantic. Combining blue-chip natural history filmmaking and dramatic recreations, Nature travels from Norway to Newfoundland, just as the seafaring warriors did in 1000 A.D., to get a glimpse of the Vikings’ world in the Americas hundreds of years before Columbus. 4 / wtiu.org

Reverend Martin Chandler: Open to the Moment Thursday, February 14 at 8pm During his career, among many other activities, Rev. Chandler has served pastorates at Second Baptist Church in Bloomington and the Church for the Fellowship of All Peoples in San Francisco, was involved in reconciliation discussions during the Attica, New York, prison riots, and has been inducted into the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation Hall of Fame. Rev. Chandler’s love of music, commitment to justice, and his passion for ministry shine throughout his life.

Secrets of the Dead: The Nero Files Wednesday, February 20 at 10pm The Roman emperor Nero is considered one of history’s greatest criminals—a cruel, insane, and brutal ruler. His name has become synonymous with evil, and he stands accused of killing his step-brother, his wife, and his mother, as well as burning Rome to the ground for his own artistic inspiration. But are these stories true? Secrets of the Dead: The Nero Files investigates Nero’s reign with the help of the internationally renowned criminal psychologist Thomas Müller, using “cold case” methodology.

Charley Pride: American Masters Friday, February 22 at 9pm This film reveals Charley Pride’s remarkable solo journey amidst the racial complexities of country music. Nashville studios often housed integrated sessions, but country charts and package shows featured white artists singing for white audiences. Pride had grown up listening to the Opry each Saturday night, from his Sledge, Mississippi home. Pride listened to, studied, and imitated Opry stars Ernest Tubb and Roy Acuff, and the music spoke to him.

Jamestown Thursday, February 28 at 10pm From the makers of Downton Abbey, this stunning new series follows the lives of three women as they wrestle with the challenges of creating a new life in a beautiful yet forbidding land. In the 17th century, on the edge of the breathtaking but untamed Virginian wilderness, sits the English colony of Jamestown. The settlement barely survived its first decade but is on the brink of change summoned by the arrival of a new governor, Yeardley, and 90 so-called “maids to make bride”—a bid from the presiding Virginia Company to establish the town as a prosperous place for all. wtiu.org / 5

WTIU Kids 24-7 channel! Available over-the-air for free on Channel 30.5 wtiu.org/kids wtiu.org/kids A New Year Makeover for Your Estate Plan Along with your New Year’s resolution to exercise more, take a few moments to reflect on your current will or estate plan. A good estate plan is like a mirror: it should reflect your values and relationships in their highest, best and most current form. But change is a constant. Millions of Americans experience dramatic changes in their financial assets, living arrangements and other life circumstances. Are you one of them? Simple changes in your life can have a significant impact on your estate plan. Have you moved? Bought or sold property? Has someone in your life passed away? Have you remarried? Do you have new grandchildren? Has your health changed? If so, how will those changes affect your legacy? Can you still recognize your best self—and the legacy you want to leave—in your current estate plan? A sound plan will provide peace of mind and clarity of intent. As you create or review your estate plan, remember to consider creating a personal legacy through a charitable gift. Naming WTIU in your will is an ideal way to make a statement of your support for the fine work that is done by public broadcasting in our community every day. Questions? Contact 812-855-2935 or plannedgiving@indianapublicmedia.org with questions about giving opportunities at WTIU. wtiu.org / 7

Highlights Be a Part of the First-Ever NPR Student Podcast Challenge! Teachers: Would you like to hear your students on WFIU? NPR is inviting students between 5th and 12th grade to create a podcast, then—with the help of a teacher—compete for a chance to win a grand prize and have their work appear on NPR. Submissions are open now through March 31. Each podcast should be between three and 12 minutes long. NPR’s panel of expert judges will be listening for creative work that stands out. Winners will be announced in April. The winning podcast submissions will be featured in segments on Morning Edition or All Things Considered. This is a competition, but it’s also about learning new skills in a fun way. NPR wants to make that learning easier so they’ve put together materials to help both teachers and students along the way. Visit npr.org/ studentpodcastchallenge to find suggested prompts, guidelines for submissions, judging criteria, and a list of questions you might have. You may also email studentpodcastchallenge@ npr.org for more information on this contest. Good luck, and we hope to hear some students from our community on the radio soon!

Sammy Davis, Jr.: American Masters Tuesday, February 19 at 9pm He was “Mr. Entertainment,” a show-business meteor who blazed across the 20th century. Sammy Davis, Jr. had the kind of career that was indisputably legendary, so vast and multi-faceted that it was dizzying in its scope and scale. Yet, his life was complex, complicated, and contradictory.

Sunday, February 3 at 7pm Independent Lens: Black Memorabilia

Monday, February 4 at 10pm

Sammy Davis, Jr. explores Davis’ journey to create his own identity—as a black man who embraced Judaism—through the shifting tides of civil rights and racial progress. A veteran of increasingly outdated show business traditions, Davis strove to stay relevant, even as he found himself bracketed by the bigotry of white America and the distaste of black America. Featuring interviews with such luminaries as Billy Crystal, Norman Lear, Jerry Lewis, Whoopi Goldberg, and Kim Novak, with neverbefore-seen photographs from Davis’ vast personal collection and footage of his electric performances, this film traces the life and art of a uniquely gifted entertainer whose trajectory highlighted the major flashpoints of American society from the Depression through the 1980s.
