Civilizations
The series, narrated by actor Liev Schreiber, begins at the dawn of human history with 70,000-yearold abstract sketches. From there it crosses borders to examine everything from Egyptian sculptures and the Terracotta Army of China to the influences of human travel, exploration and religion on art.
Civilizations is filmed on six continents and uses stateof-the-art drone and camera technology to show viewers the craftsmanship and artistry of these treasures like never before. They even create global weather systems. And yet they still remain a world of secrets. POV – Whose Streets? Monday, July 30 at 10pm When unarmed teenager Michael Brown is killed by police and left lying in the street for hours, it marks a breaking point for the residents of the St. Louis area and beyond, who have endured brutality from the carceral state for generations. Whose Streets? is an unflinching look at the Ferguson, Missouri, uprising. As the national guard rolls in, a new generation mounts a powerful battle cry not just for their civil rights, but for the right to live. wtiu.org / 5

CONFERENCE ON AGING Getting older can be a daunting prospect, and the physical, mental, and social consequences that come with it are important to understand. That’s why this year WTIU is dedicating an entire day to exploring, explaining, and navigating some of the mysteries of aging. The first ever WTIU Conference on Aging will be held July 28 from 9 am to 4 pm at the Radio-TV Building on the Indiana University campus. WTIU is pulling together area experts and resources to help participants determine the answers to the many questions associated with getting older. You’ll learn what to ask, who to ask, and when to ask about the most difficult and important issues that can help you and your family. Various sessions during the day will include topics such as Aches & Pains; Retirement Boot Camp: Navigating Social Security and Medicare; Dementia Overview; Choosing a Care Facility; Planning Ahead for Success: Estate Management; Hospice: End of Life Decisions; and Giving up the Keys. The event will be open to both caregivers and those who would like some advice on more informed aging. Register online at wtiu.org/events or call (800) 933-9330 to register by phone. Lunch is included in the registration costs. For more information, contact Joan Padawan, WTIU Events Coordinator, at (812) 856-2174. wtiu.org / 7
