Highlights Morning Edition has a new voice On November 9, NPR’s Rachel Martin will move from hosting Weekend Edition Sunday to become Morning Edition’s newest host. Previously, Martin has covered defense and intelligence issues as NPR’s National Security Correspondent, traveling regularly to Iraq and Afghanistan with the Secretary of Defense, reporting on the U.S. wars and the effectiveness of the Pentagon’s counterinsurgency strategy. As an NPR foreign correspondent based in Berlin, Martin covered the London terrorist attacks, federal elections in Germany, and issues surrounding Europe’s immigration and shifting cultural identities. She has also reported extensively from Afghanistan, where she covered the country’s reconstruction effort, its first democratic presidential election, women’s issues, and the U.S.-NATO fight against the insurgency. Taking up the weekend mantle is NPR’s South America correspondent Lulu Garcia-Navarro, whose extensive field experience includes reporting on Brazilian mothers caring for babies with microcephaly and the Ryan Lochte scandal as it played out in Rio. Tune in to Morning Edition on WFIU Monday to Friday from 5–9 a.m., and for another hour starting at 9 on WFIU2.

Celebration in Art: Presented by The Weekly Special Sunday, November 27 at 6:30pm Meet a dazzling array of Indiana artists from across the state in this new WTIU special.

This one-hour special is an extension of “Expressions”—a segment on WTIU’s long-running cultural affairs program The Weekly Special—which is an officially endorsed Indiana bicentennial legacy project. Segments include: Nashville fiber artist Daren Redman, who designs, hand dyes, and paints her own fabric to create vivid outdoor installations. Goshen’s Viki Graber, who learned willow basket weaving from her father as a child. Today, she carries on her family’s tradition, but with an artistic twist. First-generation woodworker and Seymour resident Pete Baxter, who specializes in the artistic traditions of the Shaker community.

e te

P

These Indiana artisans work in a wide variety of home-grown art, including fiber, basket weaving, jewelry, sculpture, woodworking, ceramics, plastic sculpture, and stringed musical instruments.

Ba xte r

Chaz Kaiser of Batesville, who after working for 20 years as a welder, became an artist and gained national recognition for his metal sculptures. Terre Haute’s Bill Wolfe, whose stunning, life-size bronze sculptures can be seen throughout the country. Bloomington’s Jiangmei Wu, who after learning the delicate art of origami as a child, set upon a path of combining folded paper with extraordinary interior design. Limestone carver William Galloway of Bedford, whose work can be seen at the iconic Times Square Building and the National Cathedral. Join us for this amazing voyage across Indiana’s rich artistic landscape.
