In the face of incredible change in Indiana, America, and the world, two things have remained steadfast: we have been here to provide you the information and context you need to make sense of the day’s news, as well as the music in which you can find relief; and you have been here for us, providing the support we need to do our jobs well.

While we can never predict what the top stories will be in the days and weeks ahead, we can assure you that reporters from WFIU and our partners at Indiana Public Broadcasting and NPR will be on the ground, relentlessly pursuing the facts and providing you with thoughtfully presented, accurate information. And, when you need a break from the news that one of our channels is offering, you can always find music on the other channel for an alternative. We do this because of you and for you. Our Spring membership drive begins Tuesday, April 9, and is slated to last a week. It is one of a very few times each year that we take time out on air to make the case that listener investment in public radio is critical. Perhaps you’ve never given to WFIU before, or have let your membership lapse in the last couple of years; or maybe you renewed in the fall, but feel you’d like to give a little extra. Maybe you’d like to pick up a special thank-you; or perhaps you’d rather let all of your gift go toward our programming. Regardless, with other sources of support in peril, yours is as important as ever. It is your contribution to our station that will sustain us, and will ensure we can provide high-quality news, information, music, and entertainment to everyone in our community who cares to listen. Thank You,

It’s also spring fund-drive time, and Just You And Me will kick off the jazz side of things on Tuesday, April 9 with a slew of landmark classic jazz recordings from Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, and others. Our thank-you gifts this time around include Ultimate Nat King Cole, a new anthology celebrating the famed singer and pianist for his centennial, and Joni At 75, a tribute to singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell featuring Diana Krall, Norah Jones, Rufus Wainwright, and many other contemporary stars. On Friday, April 12, Afterglow will offer a fund-drive special of music for the spring at 8 p.m., followed by Night Lights’ “Jukebox Jazz: Jazz On 45,” celebrating the art and history of the single in jazz. Other Afterglow shows this month focus on the songwriting team of Andy Razaf and Fats Waller, singer Kay Starr, and songwriter Vernon Duke, who penned classics such as “April In Paris” and “I Can’t Get Started.” Night Lights, in addition to the program with Nate Chinen, will serve up shows about saxophonist John Coltrane’s significant year of 1963 and Mosaic Records’ recent release of previously-unheard broadcasts from the swing era.
