Those in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. How many times have you heard that before? Unfortunately, titular character Maggie Cole had to learn this lesson the hard way. Genial Productions just released The Trouble with Maggie Cole, a new show that illustrates the wreckage that results from gossip gone wild. Director Ben Gregor joins with show creator and writer Mark Brotherhood to bring Maggie Cole to life. The cast is led by Dawn French, Mark Heap, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Vicki Pepperdine and Patrick Robinson. Set in a picturesque English village, the show begins when the town gossip, Maggie Cole, shares everyone’s darkest secrets on a local radio show. The predictable result follows: the lives of everyone in this small town are blown up and Cole becomes the local pariah. Will she be able to make amends with her closest family and friends? Watch this six-part series to find out!

Start watching The Trouble with Maggie Cole on Passport today! Already using Passport? Sign in at pbs.org/passport/videos to watch Maggie Cole now! Want to know more? Passport is an online streaming service available to all WTIU donors giving at least $60 annually or $5 monthly. For more information, call 1-800-987-9848.

MORE PASSPORT PICKS: Want some more light comedy with a touch of romance? Watch Sanditon, based on Jane Austen’s unfinished last novel. In the mood for something a little darker? Try out the Flemish detective show entitled Professor T.

THIS MONTH’S HIGHLIGHTS Growing Native Sundays at 11pm, starting November 1 This four-part series takes viewers on adventures throughout Indian country. Through conversations between different episode hosts and local guides, viewers get a glimpse of modern and traditional reservation life and learn how native people pass on their experience and wisdom to others in a positive way. The series highlights these shared experiences to help bridge a better understanding of Native people. Viewers also learn how Native communities are working toward sustainable food sovereignty and renewable energy sources.

Nature – Primates Wednesdays at 8pm, starting November 4 Get to know the many species of primates, from the popular chimpanzee and gorilla, to the more obscure species like the snub-nosed monkey, the slow loris, the tarsier, and much more. In this three-part series, the survival strategies used by primates are explored and viewers discover the importance of family for primates and how scientists are making groundbreaking discoveries to safeguard the future of the world’s primates.

Conservation Kids – A Green STEM Documentary Thursday, November 5 at 8:30pm More than ever before, kids across the US are learning about STEM inside classrooms, both public and private. What has been overlooked as STEM by most educational systems is that natural resource conservation can be found right outside everyone’s doorstep. In this program, real-world events using STEM principles are used to explain the connection between Mother Nature and her agricultural lands, waters, parks, soils, and wildlife habitats.

And Now We Rise: A Portrait of Samuel Johns Thursday, November 12 at 9pm And Now We Rise is a portrait of an exceptional young activist, Samuel Johns, a young Athabaskan hip hop artist, founder of the Forget Me Not Facebook Group for displaced people in Alaska, and activist for a cultural renaissance as he heals from his own legacy of historical trauma. Johns is motivated to help his Alaska Native community to lead sober, productive lives. This documentary follows him over the course of the three years as he is eventually able to return to his home village. 2 / wtiu.org

Independent Lens – Jonathan Scott’s Power Trip Monday, November 16 at 10pm Property Brothers cohost Jonathan Scott is on a mission to flip the switch on how Americans access power. On the surface, solar energy seems like a resource that is widely available, however as Scott begins his journey across the country, he quickly finds how little choice the public has in how they source their energy. Through following fossil fuel monopolies, senators, coal miners, and solar panel installers, Scott shines a light on the obstacles and opportunities for America’s solar industry.

Great Performances – Lea Salonga in Concert Friday, November 27 at 9pm Enjoy a concert from the Sydney Opera House performed by the internationally acclaimed singer Lea Salonga and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Featuring selections from her Broadway career, as well as hits from the animated movie blockbusters Aladdin and Mulan, Great Performances – Lea Salonga in Concert is a testament to the great performances of the celebrated star of the stage and screen.

Dolly Parton: I Will Always Love You (My Music) Saturday, November 28 at 8pm This program focuses on the first two decades of Parton’s career as she crossed over from her rural Tennessee country roots to become one of the world’s most popular and celebrated artists on stage, television and film with hits including “Coat of Many Colors”, “Here You Come Again”, “Islands in the Stream” (with Kenny Rogers) and “9 to 5”. Narrated by Pam Tillis, Dolly Parton: I Will Always Love You (My Music) pays tribute to one of country music’s most enigmatic figures.

Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival 2019 Saturday, November 28 at 9:30pm Eric Clapton, one of the world’s most gifted blues/rock guitarists, shines in his fifth Crossroads Guitar Festival. Held at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, this program features outstanding performances by Eric Clapton, James Bay, Jeff Beck, Doyle Bramhall II, Gary Clark Jr., Robert Cray, Sheryl Crow, Andy Fairweather Low, Peter Frampton, and more. The remaining conference sessions in November include Resilience in the Stages of Aging; What You Need to Know About Social Security; and Genealogy and Collecting Family Stories. Each session will include a live chat feature so participants can ask experts questions. Explore the Influence of Women in Classical Music on Feminine Fusion Feminine Fusion, which recently debuted on the WFIU schedule, is a weekly one-hour radio program that highlights the influence of women in classical music. These are the women throughout history and into the present day who create, perform, and inspire. Hosted by composer and announcer Diane Jones of WCNY-FM in Syracuse, NY, Feminine Fusion showcases some of these remarkable women every week. Each episode centers around a broad theme and features composers, conductors, performers, or teachers. The music presented spans the centuries, from Kassia to Pulitzer Prize-winner Du Yun. The central, unifying focus of Feminine Fusion explores musical influences that cross the boundaries of culture, race, and gender. Who can know what might have happened to the likes of Aaron Copland, Donald Byrd, or Quincy Jones had they not studied with Nadia Boulanger? Feminine Fusion airs Sundays at 11 p.m. on WFIU.

Masterpiece: 50 Fabulous Years! Sunday, November 29 at 9pm

Susanne Simpson, executive producer of Masterpiece, says, “Every week, when you turn on that television, you’re going to escape into a world—a world maybe you knew something about, maybe you didn’t know much about, but it’s going to transport you to a place in time and you’re going to enjoy that time.”

Celebrate the iconic PBS series Masterpiece in its 50th year! Originally called Masterpiece Theatre, the series has captivated viewers for five decades with its riveting stories, fabulous acting, magnificent costumes, and its astonishing ability to transport us to another time and place. From Upstairs, Downstairs and I, Claudius to The Jewel in the Crown and Downton Abbey, Masterpiece has stood the test of time and introduced generations of PBS viewers to the delights of British period drama.

Hosted by award-winning actor Alan Cumming, Masterpiece: 50 Fabulous Years! features in-depth interviews with actors, writers, creators, and fans. Enjoy clips from classic Masterpiece Theatre series and current fan favorites like Victoria, Endeavour, Poldark, Grantchester, plus many more. Viewers will also get a sneak peek at the highly anticipated All Creatures Great and Small series that will help launch the new season of Masterpiece in 2021.
