Football roundtable explores Australia & India collaboration

The Sports Industry Chapter of AIBC kicked off the month with a high level football roundtable in Melbourne on potential collaboration opportunities for Australia with India.

Some friendly matches, player exchanges, more diaspora participation and increasing support from businesses to football are expected.

A roundtable was organized which was led by Molina Asthana GAICD, AIBC's National Chair for Sport, Art and Culture. It coincided with the visit of Rupak Saha, a senior official of India's famed East Bengal Club, India's oldest football Club, which is also a part of the Indian Super League. The East Bengal Club is keen to explore collaboration opportunities with 'A' League Clubs in Australia.
Key stakeholders from football and government joined the discussions, including Football Victoria, Melbourne Victory Football Club, Western United Football Club, Bruce Media, Victorian Government, Consulate General of India in Melbourne, some key businesses and AIBC's Victoria Chapter President, Rob Thomason.
Molina said, "There was great interest from all participants in this first of its kind initiative in football between Australia and India. We are committed to establishing a working group to facilitate tangible outcomes in this direction."
The law firm Moray & Agnew, Managing Partner Bill Papastergiadis OAM and partner Radhika Kanhai hosted the roundtable at their offices.
