Sikhs call for protection against hate crimes after 2 back-to-back attacks in NY punched repeatedly for wearing a turban onboard a bus in New York City.

New York, Oct 27 (IANS) Following two back-to-back attacks on Sikhs recently, leaders and community members gathered in New York to denounce hate and call for protection against the rising crimes against them in the US. Jasmer Singh, 66, died after he was beaten to death during a road rage incident October 19, just four days after fellow Sikh and teenager Mani Sandhu was

Heartbroken and upset, Sikhs gathered at Gurdwara Sikh cultural Society in South Richmond Hill on Wednesday in a show of solidarity towards the victims of the attack. "Time and time again we've seen the Sikh community become the target of senseless hate. Due to this hate we have now lost a beloved community member," Japneet Singh, activist and organiser of the event, wrote on X. "He just hit my father so intense, like so hard on his head. His two front teeth were taken out," Jasmer's son Subeg Multani told CBS News.

He said that he is angry as police are treating his father's death as a road rage case while it was a hate crime. "This is the NYPD's (New York Police Department) job to protect us. They failed to do so. They failed to do so," Multani told the channel. While Gilbert Augustin was arrested and charged with manslaughter for the attack on Jasmer Singh, Christopher Philippeaux, who targeted Sandhu, was charged with hate crime assault. Sandhu, who came to the US 10 months ago, told CBS News that now he doesn't feel safe when he steps outside his home.

The statement also noted that over the last few days, the IDF struck over 600 targets of Hamas, including weapons depots, dozens of anti-tank missile launching positions, as well as hideouts and staging grounds used by Hamas. Moreover, overnight IDF troops identified armed Hamas militants and an anti-tank missile launching post in the area of the Al-Azhar University and guided a fighter jet to strike them. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday that the country's war cabinet and political cabinet "unanimously decided to expand the ground operation" in the Gaza Strip.

The decision was made as regional countries warned Israel against further ground operations.

In a press conference joined by other senior officials in Tel Aviv, Netanyahu said Israel is now "heading into the second stage of the war," during which his country will try to achieve its target of destroying "Hamas's military and governing capabilities, and returning the hostages home." Israel has launched massive airstrikes and ground operations against Gaza in retaliation for a surprise attack by Gaza-ruling Hamas militants on Israeli military targets and towns on Oct. 7, which killed at least 1,400 people in Israel.

India will be entering a new era with confidence, new hopes and aspirations,” he said. He stated that while the Britishera laws were aimed at protecting the administration, new laws will safeguard the rights of people and defeat forces which come in the way of providing these rights. The Home Minister said the new laws have redefined terrorism and organised crime and made provisions to control inter-state gangs. Emphasis has been laid on use of technology to digitize investigation and maintain a charge sheet timeline. He claimed that during the last nine years, the government has succeeded in improving the law and order situation in three

hotspots -- Northeast, Left wing extremism affected states and Jammu & Kashmir. From 2004 to 2014, these three hotspots had witnessed 33,200 violent incidents and this has been reduced to 12,000. There was a decline of 63 per cent in violent incidents and 73 per cent in deaths. Shah said the government adopted a zero tolerance policy towards terrorism and now the country is moving towards zero tolerance strategy and zero tolerance action. He said while the police succeeded in controlling terrorism, Left-wing extremism and ethnic violence during the last 10 years, the challenges have not come to an end.

"Within a year of the launch of 5G, nearly four lakh 5G base stations have been working today. They are covering 97 per cent of the cities and more than 80 per cent of the population," Modi said. Airtel chief Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman of Aditya Birla group Kumar Mangalam Birla and Reliance Jio chairman Akash Ambani as well as telecom

Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw were also present on the occasion. Speaking further, PM Modi said that the world is using 'Made in India' phones while referring to the transformation which has taken in the recent past in the telecom sector. "Recently, Google has announced the manufacturing of its Pixel phone in India. Samsung's Fold 5 mobile phone and Apple's iPhone 15 are being manufactured in India. We are proud that the world is using Made in India mobile phones now," PM Modi said. India has become an exporter from a net importer, he added. "India has reached 43rd position in mobile broadband speed from the previous rank of 118," PM Modi said, adding that 2014 (when NDA came to power) is not a date, it is 'badlav' (change).

Industry alliance creating biomanufacturing workforce for the future Seven of the state’s key biomanufacturing organisations are combining forces to help boost the sector in Queensland, saying the expansion offers enormous potential for skilled jobs growth. Having skilled workers in Queensland is essential to attract thriving biotechnology industries with evolving technology needs, and the BioManufacturing Alliance (BMA), coordinated by Life Sciences Queensland, brings the sector together to achieve that. The Advanced Cell Therapy Manufacturing Initiative (ACTMI) at The University of Queensland is one of the research organisations working with the BMA to ensure students graduate with the skillsets needed by industry. UQ Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry said the collaboration opportunities provided through the BMA were invaluable. “ACTMI has engaged with the BMA to understand where the skills gaps are in the workforce and through that alliance is seeking to address these gaps by providing courses, training opportunities, and upskilling our students to address that need,” Professor Terry said. The need to increase the pool of a skilled biomanufacturing workforce is one of the challenges identified in the state government’s Queensland Biomedical 10 Year Roadmap and Action Plan. Professor Frank Gannon, special advisor to Springfield City Group and former head of QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, is optimistic that Queensland’s growing reputation as a collaborative environment was helping attract investments that would create and retain thousands of jobs. Professor Gannon predicted businesses moving into BioPark Australia at Springfield, close to Brisbane, would create 1200 highquality jobs in the next five years. “Many of the businesses would address sovereign manufacturing needs, such as providing the supply chain for RNA vaccines from Canadian offshoot company Southern RNA, or specialised blood proteins from the planned Aegros fractionation facility,” Professor Gannon said. “About 20% of the jobs will be for PhD candidates, another 30% will be for those who already have their PhDs and then, importantly, the rest of the jobs will go to technicians with specialist skills,” he said. Life Sciences Queensland CEO Dr Erin Evans said the BMA had announced a Memorandum of Understanding that would formalise the two-year relationship between the parties, and would pave the way for new partners to join the Alliance.

leading biomanufacturing groups, including Sanofi, Aegros, USQ, Southern RNA and Vaxxas,” Dr Evans said. “We see huge potential globally in biomanufacturing and the BMA is a vital part of harnessing that for Queensland,” she said. “The BMA is increasing collaboration across the sector, which will accelerate the growth of biomanufacturing in Queensland, as a wellcoordinated sector provides a strong environment for business growth.” “As the industry peak body, Life Sciences Queensland is committed to bringing together key players in the sector to drive investment and growth for Queensland.”

The BMA spans all sectors of biomanufacturing from product development, personnel training, novel biotherapies and start-up labs, to dedicated locations to allow clustering of mature expanding industries. The BMA spans all sectors of bio-manufacturing from product development, personnel training, novel biotherapies and startup labs, to dedicated locations to allow clustering of mature expanding industries. The BMA announced it had formalised its arrangements with a Memorandum of Understanding this morning, at a breakfast for 150 sector leaders gathered for the AusBiotech ’23 conference being held in Brisbane from Nov 1–3. The event is the first official engagement for Queensland Chief Scientist Professor Kerrie Wilson, who begins her appointment on 1 November. The minister said that the metro network has brought comfort, stability and security to the lives of our citizens. "I am happy to note that the metro network has a daily ridership of around 1 crore”, he said. He said that the ridership number is going to increase with ease of last mile connectivity, and other factors. The minister said that the approach of the government towards issues pertaining to urban transport has witnessed a significant change after 2014. The rapid urbanisation has been embraced as an opportunity rather than a challenge during this period, he remarked. The minister also pointed out the

importance of Regional Rapid Transit System and Vande Bharat Trains in regional and inter-city connectivity. He said that the country has gone through a major transformation in the field of rail-based rapid transit systems. Highlighting the efforts of government to overhaul urban transport in the country and switch towards environmental-friendly means of transport, the minister said that a beginning in this direction has been made through initiatives such as FAME- I, FAME-II, and PM-eBus Seva Scheme. He said that the PM-e-bus Sewa scheme will augment city bus operations; while giving priority to cities that lack organised bus services. Another 10,000 e-buses will be deployed on a PPP model in 169 cities alongside support for associated infrastructure, bus depot and behind the meter power infrastructure.

Australian tax system not fit for Australia’s quarterly inflation rises to 1.2% aging population: Experts Canberra, Oct 27 (IANS) Australia's tax system is inadequate to properly fund government responsibilities, experts warned on Friday. In a speech to Canberra-based think tank the Australia Institute's Revenue Summit at Parliament House on Friday, former Department of Finance head Michael Keating called for a fullscale public review of the funding needed for the adequate provision of government services, reports Xinhua news agency. Keating, who served as secretary of the department between 1986 and 1991, told the summit that by his estimation Australia's structural budget deficit, which

occurs when public spending exceeds government revenues, would surpass 3 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) within a decade. He said spending cuts are unlikely to remedy the problem, instead advocating for new taxes that "improve efficiency" including congestion charges and a tax on greenhouse gas emissions. The summit coincided with the release of a report from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) calling for Australia's federal government to raise and broaden its consumption tax -the general sales tax (GST). According to the economic survey report, 26.5 per cent of Australia's

total taxation revenue comes from GST compared to an average of 32 per cent among OECD member nations. It said that the government relying on personal income tax was risky considering Australia's aging population and recommended eliminating GST exemptions for education, healthcare, food and water. Treasurer Jim Chalmers has previously ruled out making any change to GST, which has remained at 10 per cent for most goods and services since it was introduced in 2000, but told the Australian Associated Press that the government's economic plan "aligns" with the OECD's agenda.

Anti-anxiety drug may help boost brain cancer survival chances Sydney, Oct 26 (IANS) A decadesold anti-anxiety drug can help improve the effectiveness of chemo-radiotherapy towards glioblastoma (GBM) -- the most common and lethal brain cancer. Brain cancers kill more children and adults under 40 than any other cancer. They are resistant to therapies that kill cancer elsewhere in the body. The study, published in the journal Science Advances, found cerebrospinal fluid -- the clear colourless liquid that protects the brain -- reduces current treatment efficacy in brain cancer. It also may be a factor that makes brain cancers resistant to treatment, said researchers from Flinders University in Australia. The study team tested the effect of the precious resource of human cerebrospinal fluid on the growth

of tumour cells collected from 25 local patients with glioblastoma. Among their findings, the tumour cells quickly changed their identity and became more resistant to radiation and the drug temozolomide, which are mainstays of glioblastoma therapy. "Glioblastoma kills so many people who are otherwise fit, healthy and young, within months. This is a horrible disease, and the treatments available are just not effective enough despite serious side effects,” said Cedric Bardy, Associate Professor at Flinders. "This study helps us understand the limitations of the current chemotherapies and provides new hope for repurposing a class of drugs that could be added to the standard of care. We are working hard now to try this on

patients in a clinical trial." Investigating the molecular basis for these changes, the team found glioblastoma cells exposed to cerebrospinal fluid were more resistant to ferroptosis -- a form of therapy-induced cell death. Importantly, they showed that trifluoperazine, an anti-anxiety drug used since the 1950s, could re-sensitise glioblastoma cells to both therapies.

Canberra, Oct 25 (IANS) The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) on Wednesday revealed that inflation hit 1.2 per cent between the start of July and end of September, marking an increase from the 0.8 per cent rise in prices in the previous quarter.

prices and 2.2 per cent rise in rent prices were the biggest drivers of inflation.

As it released Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for the September quarter, the Bureau said that on an annual basis consumer prices rose 5.4 per cent in the 12 months to the end of September, down from 6.0 per cent in the year to June, reports Xinhua news agency.

"Fruit and vegetable prices fell this quarter due to favorable growing conditions. Berries, grapes, and salad vegetables such as tomatoes, broccoli and capsicums drove the fall," she said.

Canberra, Oct 25 (IANS) The Covid-19 pandemic drove a spike in Australian spending on health care in 2021-22, a government report released on Wednesday said. The report released by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) on Wednesday revealed that A$241.3 billion was spent on health goods and services nationally in the 12 months to the end of June 2022, the equivalent of A$9,365 per person, reports Xinhua news agency. It marked an increase of A$13.7 billion from the previous 12

After adjusting for inflation, health spending grew 6 per cent from 2020-21 to 2021-22 compared to an average annual increase of 3.4 per cent in the previous decade, the report said. Governments accounted for 72.9 per cent of spending on health care, with A$105.8 billion coming from the federal government and a combined bill of A$70.2 billion from state and territory governments. Federal government health care funding grew 8.6 per cent from 2020-21 to 2021-22, more than double the long-term average of 3.5 per cent. The report attributed the spike to the coronavirus pandemic. It said spending on hospitals increased 4.6 per cent over the

12 months to A$96 billion, partly as a result of increasing Covid-19 hospitalisations. Spending on primary healthcare, including general practitioners and community health centres, grew 10.9 per cent to A$84.1 billion in 2021-22, which the report said "was associated with increased spending related to the pandemic, such as Covid-19 vaccines, and personal protective equipment". However, the report said that strict Covid-19 restrictions across much of Australia during the period covered by the report were "likely" responsible for a 0.9 pe rcent drop in health spending by individuals and a 5.3 per cent fall in spending by private health insurance providers.

Rising prices were offset by a 13.2 per cent fall in childcare costs due to changes in the government's Child Care Subsidy and falling domestic holiday travel and accommodation costs. Marquardt said without the changes, which benefited over 1 million families, child care prices would have risen 6.7 per cent.

Food prices also rose 0.6 per cent, the smallest quarterly increase in two years, ABS head of price statistics Michelle Marquardt said in a media release.

Canberra, Oct 23 (IANS) The peak body representing Australian farmers on Monday called for the federal government to walk away from a proposed free trade agreement (FTA) with the European Union (EU). In a statement issued from its Canberra headquarters, the National Farmers' Federation (NFF) said that farmers feared being sold out by a bad deal with the EU, reports Xinhua news agency. Don Farrell, the Minister for Trade and Tourism, will later in October travel to the G7 trade ministers' meeting where he will meet with his EU counterpart, Valdis Dombrovskis, in a bid to conclude negotiations on the landmark trade deal after five years of talks.

"Everything we've seen so far would actually send parts of our sector backwards. We've never seen a proposed trade deal like it," she said in Monday's statement. According to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), the EU is Australia's third-largest two-way trading partner and second-largest source of foreign investment. DFAT has said an FTA with the EU would give Australian exporters sending their goods and services to the EU a competitive edge. However, Simson said there has been no indication that the EU is willing to offer a commercially meaningful deal for Australia's agriculture sector. "The current proposal would lock Aussie farmers in at a disadvantage for the next half century," she said.

IRCC hopes India visa operations will return to normal by early 2024: Report This can be achieved as the immigration staff pulled from India reestablishes itself and gets back to work in Canada and the Philippines, the report said.

Toronto, Oct 23 (IANS) Canada's top immigration body said that it expects Indian visa processing, set to be impacted due to recent withdrawal of diplomats, to return to normal by early 2024. According to senior officials at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the reduction of staff in India is expected to create a backlog of 17,500 'final decisions' across the country's global immigration system over the next two months. However, the government hopes to return back to normal processing by 'early 2024', the CIC News reported citing officials.

In addition, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar hinted on Sunday that the visa services, which were suspended last month following a diplomatic row between the two nations, could be started "very, very soon" as the security situation improves. He said India stopped issuing visas in Canada "as it was no longer safe for our diplomats to go to work to issue visas". With India maintaining that it seeks parity in diplomatic presence, Canada evacuated 41 of its diplomats last week and said that only 21 of them would be stationed in India henceforth. The IRCC had earlier issued a statement saying that its staff in India is being reduced from 27 to just five members due to which operations will be impacted and

The rest of the work and staff will be reassigned across IRCC's global processing network, the report said. More than 118,000 Indians became Canadian permanent residents in 2022, which was 27 per cent of the over 437,000 new permanent residents welcomed by Canada. The North American nation opened its door to more than 226,000 Indian international students last year and nearly 60,000 Indians became Canadian citizens in 2022.

Tokyo, Oct 23 (IANS) Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has lost one of the two crucial parliamentary byelections, dealing a blow to Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's Cabinet whose approval ratings have recently plunged to the lowest levels since he assumed power amid price hikes and sluggish wage growth. An independent candidate backed by opposition parties won in the House of Councillors byelection in the Tokushima-Kochi district, while in the Nagasaki No. 4 House of Representatives constituency, the LDP candidate defeated a politician of the leading

The outcomes possibly make it difficult for Kishida to dissolve the House of Representatives, the lower house, for a general election by the end of this year, according to local media reports. There had been speculation that Kishida would dissolve the lower house and call a general election by the end of this year if the LDP retained both seats. But the results of Sunday's polls make that more difficult, Kyodo News reported. The by-elections, both head-tohead battles between the ruling and opposition sides, were the first national contests since Kishida reshuffled his cabinet in mid-September in a bid to refresh the image of his government.

and that Canada will continue to accept and process all temporary and permanent resident applications.

Toronto, Oct 20 (IANS) Canadian Immigration Minister Marc Miller said that visa processing in India will be "inevitably impacted" after Ottawa evacuated 41 of its diplomats following a diplomatic spat with New Delhi over the killing of pro-Khalistani hardliner Hardeep Singh Nijjar. With India maintaining that it seeks parity in diplomatic presence, Canada said that only 21 Canadian diplomats and dependents would be stationed in India from now onwards. Addressing a press conference on Thursday alongside Foreign Minister Melanie Joly in Ottawa, Miller said the move will result in slower visa processing of Indians looking to come to Canada. "Processing times will inevitably be impacted by this unacceptable and unilateral decision by the Government of India, but we will strive to minimize the impact on people looking to come to Canada," he said. Following Miller's remarks, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued a statement saying that its staff in India is being reduced from 27 to just five. Miller, however, reassured that the lower number of staff will have short term repercussions,

According to CIC News, IRCC is trying to mitigate the impact by adjusting the work load for Visa Application Centres (VACs) that already process the majority of the applications from India, but some work will have to be done by email. The Canadian immigration body said in a statement that a large majority of applications from India are already processed outside the country, with 89 per cent of India’s applications processed through the global network. "The five Canada-based IRCC staff who remain in India will focus on work that requires an in-country presence such as urgent processing, visa printing, risk assessment and overseeing key partners," the IRCC said in a statement released on Thursday. According to IRCC, clients from India can expect to see some delays over the next few months in overall processing times, responses to their enquiries, and getting their visas or passports returned. "Canada has a strong connection with Indian citizens, and will continue to welcome them, whether they wish to come here to visit, work, study, be reunited with loved ones, or live permanently in the country," the IRCC said. Acknowledging that newcomers from India play a vital role in Canada, Miller said the country's Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) will continue to welcome students and new applications will be processed, albeit slowly.

Family members of Al Jazeera Palestinian death toll from Israeli strikes on Gaza rises to 7,326: Ministry journalist killed in Gaza Gaza, Oct 28 (IANS) The death toll of Palestinians from Israeli military strikes on the Gaza Strip has risen to 7,326, the Hamas-run Health Ministry said. So far, 18,967 Palestinians have been injured since the fighting broke out, the Ministry said on Friday in a statement as quoted

by Xinhua news agency report. Israel has launched massive airstrikes and limited ground operations against Gaza in retaliation for a surprise attack by Gaza-ruling Hamas militants on Israeli military targets and towns on October 7, which has killed at least 1,400 people in Israel.

Israeli military again conducts ‘targeted raids’ inside Gaza Strip

Jerusalem Oct 27 (IANS) For a second straight night, Israeli troops conducted "targeted raids" inside the Gaza Strip before withdrawing from the Hamas-controlled enclave, the military said in a statement on Friday. A video published by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) showed tanks and armoured vehicles moving on a road near

agricultural land as well as strikes on buildings and open areas, reports CNN. The raid, which included aircraft and artillery strikes in the Shaja'iyah neighborhood, targeted Hamas infrastructure including "anti-tank missile launch sites, military command and control centers, as well as Hamas terrorists", the IDF said. “The troops exited the area at the

end of the activity,” the statement said. On Thursday, the IDF had said that it carried out a "targeted raid" in the northern Gaza Strip as "part of preparations for the next stages of combat", in which the Jewish nation is planning a ground offensive in Gaza, reports Xinhua news agency. During the raid, soldiers located and struck "numerous" militants, infrastructure and anti-tank missile launch posts and "operated to prepare the battlefield", it added. Israel has vowed to wipe out Hamas, the militant group that controls Gaza, in response to its October 7 deadly terror attacks and kidnap rampage in which 1,400 people, mostly civilians, were killed and more than 220 taken hostage. In a televised address on Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israeli is "preparing for a ground incursion," into Gaza following nearly three weeks of airstrikes on the coastal strip.

UNSC fails again to act on Gaza as duelling Russian, US resolutions fail

United Nations, Oct 26 (IANS) Two duelling resolutions from Russia and the US on the Gaza situation have failed miring the UN Security Council in inaction on the spiralling humanitarian crisis that also threatens to engulf the region in wider conflicts. ten days, with Russia and the US vetoing one each, illustrating the inefficacy of the UN’s highest decision-making body when national interests of the permanent members collide. Russia and the US will have to appear before the General Assembly to explain their vetoes under a resolution adopted by it last year. The General Assembly had already scheduled an emergency session on Palestine on Thursday with 104 nations and Palestine and the European Union signed up by Wednesday evening to speak. (India was not on the list of

speakers.) It is likely to pass a resolution calling for a ceasefire, which would only be symbolic as it does not have the enforcement powers that the Council has. US Permanent Representative Linda Thomas-Greenfield accused Moscow of acting “in bad faith” and cynically proposing the resolution with “a number of problematic sections” at the last moment without consultations. Russia’s Permanent Representative Vassily Nebenzia countered: “National and narrow self-centred ideological and political interests prevailed over the aim of stopping a humanitarian disaster.” The votes on the rival resolutions came after France tried unsuccessfully to delay bringing the resolutions to the floor in order to seek consensus, according to diplomatic sources. Gaza, Oct 26 (IANS) Three family members of Wael Al-Dahdouh, Al Jazeera Arabic's bureau chief in Gaza, were killed amid the raging conflict in the Hamas-controlled enclave, Palestinian security and medical sources said. On Wednesday, an Israeli raid on two houses in the Nuseirat refugee camp killed several people, including the wife, son, and daughter of Al-Dahdouh, the medical sources claimed. "Despite being forced to relocate to the southern part of the Gaza Strip in search of safety, the AlDahdouh family was targeted," Xinhua news agency quoted a statement released by the Hamas-run Ministry of Interior in Gaza as saying. The relocation followed Israel's evacuation call ordering some 1 million people to move to the southern part of the besieged enclave on October 13. Footage on Al Jazeera English news channel shows Al-Dahdouh entering a hospital to see his slain family members. In a statement released on social platform X, Al Jazeera confirmed the death of Al-Dahdouh's

family members and extended condolence. "The Al Jazeera Media Network extends its sincere condolences and sympathy to our colleague Weal Al-Dahdouh on the loss of his family in an Israeli airstrike," the statement said. "Al Jazeera is deeply concerned about the safety and well-being of our colleagues in Gaza and hold the Israeli authorities responsible for their security," it added. According to the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, 24 journalists have been killed, some with their families, and dozens more have been wounded since the beginning of the Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip. Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7, firing thousands of rockets and infiltrating Israeli territory, to which Israel responded with massive airstrikes and punitive measures, including a siege on the enclave with supplies of water, electricity, fuel, and other necessities being cut off. The ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict has so far killed more than 6,500 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and more than 1,400 people in Israel.

From the editor’s desk A game of glorious uncertainties, literally The cricket World Cup 2023 in India has brought to the fore quite a few surprises. And this is not for the first time that the cricket World Cup does something to teams not known for great exploits on a cricket field. Therefore major upsets are always on the cards and now no team can take the other lightly, no matter how inexperienced the side may be. After all, as the legends of world cricket say that cricket is a game of glorious uncertainties. On a day, even a lesser known team may get conducive conditions, and with no expectation of harming its reputation whatsoever, it may perform to its unknown potential and force the very best team in the world to go down on their knees. In fact, sometimes not knowing a team’s talent can hit a reputed team. The pitch may allow the spinners to bowl brilliant deliveries; a pacer may get the bowl to dart to the batsmen sharply, hastening them to play shots they do not want to play. It all happens on a day in the game of cricket. Going down memory lane, the 1983 World Cup in England could well have seen the first real upset of the tournament with the then minnows of the gameZimbabwe- now conspicuous by its absence in this World Cup, almost did the unthinkable and was about to defeat India. What separated India from defeat that day was the brilliant innings of the then Indian skipper Kapil Dev, who smashed to every side of the park to score 175 runs under difficult English conditions. When Kapil Dev had entered the ground then, India was tottering, and not many of its fans would have had the patience to listen to the radio commentary, as the match was not telecast live on television because employees of the BBC were on strike. It is a different story that history was meant to be scripted and India won the World cup in 1983 defeating the mighty West Indies against all odds. The trend for an unlikely victory of a lesser team has continued in subsequent world cups. Teams like Ireland have defeated strong nations, though they have not managed to qualify in other World Cups. So this phenomenon of a lesser known team, barely qualifying for the World Cup, to churn up match-winning performances trouncing mighty teams in world cricket, is difficult to explain, except perhaps for the fact that the more accomplished teams tend to become complacent while playing these teams who are yet to make a mark in the

Shift in India’s Middle East policy apparent

international arena. In the current World Cup in India, surprises have come in large quantities. The first major surprise was when the Netherlands defeated the mighty South Africa. How do you explain that? Big names playing for South Africa who have played like lions against stronger opposition, wilted under pressure created by some impeccable pace and spin bowling from the Netherlands. Not many experts would have given even a whiff of a chance to the Netherlands that they would get the better of the South Africans so easily. The South African side did not look their real self as they played in a manner that showed a lack of confidence. Some of the shots played by their batters were tentative, and the Netherlands totally dominated the proceedings. But the performance of world champion England has surprised many experts of the game. How can a champion side, which was playing brilliant cricket till now, suddenly start playing shabbily? The English side has outstanding match winners in Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Bairstow and Butler. They have depth in their batting, and have a formidable bowling attack. Despite being a champion side that it is, the English side played a sort of cricket you won’t normally associate with a team that has no dearth of talent. Yet the team played without the spark it needed so much. It is not as if the players were not familiar with the conditions in India. Many of their top players play for one or the other IPL side. Some of the players may have been playing in India for the first time. Even so, international players are trained to acclimatize themselves to conditions abroad. This is what makes them professional cricketers. The downfall of the English side, which has been sliding down on the points table for this World Cup, has been wrought by some of the irresponsible shots they have chosen to play, unwittingly perhaps. When the conditions required the team to play cautiously, the English side chose to play aggressively and lost wickets in regular intervals unnecessarily. One would expect players of the caliber of Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Bairstow and Butler to play a good hand when the situation demanded them to do so. They are too good to miss out for long.

By Rabindra Mukherjee Condemn Hamas action before seeking UNGA vote on truce resolution There is a major shift in the Indian Middle East policy vis-àvis the Palestine-Israel conflict. Though India has desisted from openly taking sides of either Israel or Palestine, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first reaction to the gruesome Hamas attack on Israel saying that India stands with Israel has been perceived as India’s pro-Israel stance. But the more recent developments have put to rest any doubts about which way India seeks to align. The fact that India abstained from voting on a UN General Assembly (UNGA) resolution backing the Palestine cause, makes the point amply clear that India is no longer averse to lending support to Israel, albeit indirectly. While India has made its stance clear politically, India has sent humanitarian aid to the people of Palestine. India’s official stance should not be misinterpreted as against the people of Palestine. India continues to engage with the Palestinian leadership, but its self interest dictates that it can no longer ignore Israel as an important ally that has always supported and assisted India in times of crisis. In the current geopolitical scenario, where India is surrounded by foes on all sides, having friendly relations with Israel is imperative. Pakistan and China have been a perennial threat to India. With China engaging with many South Asian countries, especially Nepal and Bhutan, India feels threatened as these small countries can act against India in the event of a conflict escalating to a fullfledged war. India’s opposition to the recent UNGA resolution arises because it (UNGA) failed to condemn Hamas for its terrorist attack and the Assembly rejected an amendment supported by India that would have named the terror group. India’s stance has always been against acts of terror and terror groups anywhere in

facebook.com/indianewsaustralia

the world. This is understandable considering the fact that India has had to deal with terrorism from across the border for years. The October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel calls for harshest criticism of the terror group, and there is no logic whatsoever not to condemn its abominable acts of terror. Israel’s counter-offensive against the terror group is but natural and understandable, though the loss of innocent civilian lives, be they Palestinians or Israelis, is against the best interest of humanity. In this context, India's Deputy Permanent Representative Yojna Patel said after the vote that the terror attacks in Israel on October 7 were shocking and deserved condemnation. She stated that the world should not be persuaded to justify terror acts, and leaving aside differences, it should adopt a zero tolerance approach to terrorists. This statement from the Indian side should make it clear that India condemns terrorism and terror attacks, irrespective of the place it emanates from. Therefore, any backing of the Palestine cause, at a time when a terror group like Hamas is purportedly trying to show that it alone represents Palestine and its cause, will amount to giving legitimacy to a terror group. There is also a need to be aware of the fact that Hamas unleashed an orgy of rapes and murders, and are still holding several Israelis as hostages. The resolution asked the member countries to vote for a truce in the Israel-Hamas conflict and provision of assistance to the people of Gaza. The resolution passed with 120 votes, while there were 14 votes against it and 45 abstentions, giving it a two-thirds majority of those present and voting. India, however, backed the amendment to the resolution moved by Canada that named Hamas and condemned its October 7 attack. But it failed to pass, getting only 88 votes, while there were 54 votes against it, with 23 abstentions.

four resolutions on Gaza, with one each being vetoed by Russia and the US, and two that did not get the minimum nine votes to pass. Significantly, the Assembly's resolution is only symbolic in nature, and it does not have the power to enforce it. Therefore not much should be read into how the UNGA resolution went. India’s stance has been more towards focusing on the humanitarian crisis that needs to be addressed. Historically, India has always voted in favour of any resolution that favoured the Palestine cause, even if it meant ignoring the Israeli position. But keeping in view the changing geopolitical situation, it is apt that India should take the stance that serves its interest. Since Independence, India’s position to back only the Palestinian cause was in keeping with the notion that it will be looked upon favourably by Indian Muslims. This perspective is erroneous given the fact that Indian Muslims realize that they are a part of the Indian nation, and what is in the interest of India as a nation is also in their interest. The Palestine issue has been deliberately politicized internationally, and it is being done in India domestically as well. The Israel-Palestine conflict should not affect the psyche of Muslims in India. This is because a nation is built with the contribution of one and all, including that of the Muslims. Muslims in India are an integral part of India as a nation, which has nothing to do with India’s stance globally. If India stands with Israel, it is to fulfill its own interest. The Arab countries have always sided with and supported Pakistan during India-Pakistan wars. Israel, on the other hand, had stood with India, and even supported it when it was in a crisis situation. Israeli assistance has strengthened India’s intelligence agency R&AW. India needs the support and assistance of Israel in a world where it is difficult to discern between a friend and a foe.

Long-term gains of G20 Presidency By D.C. Pathak demonstrate India’s front-line role in advancing the cause of the global economy. India was projected as the fastest-growing economy with the potential to become one of the three largest economies of the world and the ‘ease of doing business’ was convincingly explained to lay the ground for further foreign investments in India. India’s potential across the spectrum - from Space to Sports - was well demonstrated.

New Delhi, Oct 22 (IANS) The tremendous global outreach achieved by India in the run-up to G20 under its Presidency, consolidation of India’s position in regional groupings, acknowledgement of India’s leadership of the Global South, further strengthening of bilateral and multilateral bonds that served to counter India’s adversaries and above all the direct exposure of the world to India’s inner strengths of indigenous skills, technological potential and civilisational roots, all these should be listed as the extraordinary and lasting advantages gained by India in the wake of this highly successful world event hosted by the country under the direct guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This was a G20 Summit ‘with a difference’ setting off positive geopolitical trends both for global security and the world economy. Nearly 200 conferences of G20 Sherpas, Ministers of participating countries and specialists, held in India and outside, generated information, graphical data and opportunities for cooperation that would be now evaluated producing a rare gift of knowledge for the participating countries. This is perhaps the biggest legacy of G20’s Delhi Summit. A singular achievement of the Summit was the release of a joint statement - Delhi Declaration - representing a consensus that had eluded it in the past because of differences on geopolitical developments chiefly the Ukraine-Russia military conflict, issues of environment and matters relating to equity for the Global South. India has firmed up its position as a world power whose counsel on issues of war and peace would be respected and whose voice of sanity turned the esoteric Indian concept of ‘one world one family’ into a reality. In fact what turned out to be an epoch-making feature of the Delhi Summit was that G20, the most powerful economic group, was made aware of the need to enlarge its ambit and embrace a human-centric approach to the world at large.

www.indianews.com.au

The ninth P20 meet of the Parliament Speakers held on October 13-14 in Delhi as a concluding part of the G20 put a seal of finality on the decision of the democratic countries to work together to advance the agenda of the Delhi Summit. Inaugurating this meeting, Prime Minister Modi described India as the mother of democracy while Speaker Om Birla emphasised the importance of Parliamentary contribution to G20 processes. The Delhi Declaration of G20 will go down in history as the first expression of unanimity by member countries on a wide variety of global issues beyond the traditional matters of economy and business, such as climate change, the threat of terrorism and an equitable order addressing the disparity between the North and the South. Climate change has been the subject of acrimonious debates rather than decisions for ‘action’. India left its imprint at the G20 summit with Prime Minister Modi advancing the concept of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle For Environment) as a part of the larger vision of ‘One earth, one family, one future’. By calling upon every individual not just countries and institutions - to become a beacon of hope for humanity by consciously adopting a helpful approach to the environment, supporting a switch over to renewable energy and generally upholding the idea of a lifestyle that was in sync with inclusivity and equality, the Delhi Declaration was breaking new grounds. Another feature of this G20 summit was the consensus it reached on the need to create a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), define its principles and framework and make it an instrument of the new vision for global prosperity. Prime Minister Modi with his impassioned devotion to the cause of Digital India, drove this initiative and secured the total backing of the participants. A related idea of encouraging ‘start-ups’ was brought to the high table and India’s example as a lead player in that was successfully put forth, to

Prime Minister Modi has to be given credit for pushing India as an equal partner and as a responsible stakeholder in the G20 group. Reaffirmation of expeditious implementation of the 2023 Agenda on SDGs Goals in a way that ‘no one is left behind’, the call for womenled development and emphasis on the conceptual shift from a GDP-centric approach to humancentric development, must be regarded as transformational ideas voiced at Delhi Summit. It is remarkable how the G20 Presidency has put India on the global map in a manner that its voice of wisdom has been acknowledged across the world. India’s security and economic interests have been well served at the Delhi Summit. The political will of the Modi regime has put the stamp of consistency and strategic soundness on India’s foreign policy that basically favoured bilateral and multilateral friendships which were mutually beneficial and were not in conflict with the cause of global peace and advancement of the world economy. In the context of the UkraineRussia military confrontation, India held its ground while calling for a peaceful resolution through talks without naming either side in that combat and highlighting in the Delhi Declaration the pronouncement of Prime Minister Modi that ‘this is not an era of war’. No voice of dissent was raised by the US, Russia and China at the summit and India’s policy of pushing the Indo-US relationship to a new height while maintaining the country’s deep bonds with Russia was proceeding unhindered. India maintained its vocal advocacy of UN reforms on the grounds that the world body had to be a representative one in today’s global order and had to broad base its decision-making process. It appears that voices favouring India’s inclusion as a permanent member of the UN Security Council are getting stronger every day as there is a realisation that this was needed to maintain the very credibility of the UN body as the arbiter of matters affecting global order and peace. It may be mentioned here that

facebook.com/indianewsaustralia

the Delhi Declaration of the G20 Summit gave equal importance to issues of world security and global economic development this was because India had chosen to be upfront about expressing concerns at all world forums that affected India’s security and posed a danger to the world at large, as well. At the G20 summit, India gave a clear message to China and Pakistan that it was well-prepared to deal with them both and effectively counter their joint mischief against this country. After the G20 summit, India is better prepared to deal with an aggressive China on the borders and elsewhere and is in a position to inflict costs on Pakistan for its cross-border misadventures. For all of that Prime Minister is rightly relying on capacity building by India on the ‘mantra’ of self-dependence. The gains of G20 have been unprecedented in terms of the cultural richness, ‘soft power’ potential and new avenues of exports of India’s enormous handicrafts and local products, to which the world was given access during the extensive get-togethers and domestic ‘touring’ organised for the visiting dignitaries. G20 events were held in 60 cities across 28 states and 8 Union Territories. Foreign guests literally emerged in the rich Indian culture - the gifts presented to them ranged from Pashmina shawls and Khadi stoles to Indian and Rosewood handcrafts and Kannauj perfumes. They all had once in a lifetime experience on this visit to India. This will impact favourably on India’s economic prospects and diplomatic advancement. The larger gain from G20 is that by hosting the summit on such a grand scale of hospitality, providing for bilateral meetings with most visiting heads and presenting India as the flag bearer of the Global South and as a champion of humanitarian approach to economic development, India’s Presidency has converted this group of developed countries into a world forum where an unbiased view could be upheld on geopolitical developments, issues of global economy with particular reference to the lot of the developing countries and on crucial dimensions of ‘one earth one family’ like climate change, disaster management and gender equality. India’s rise at the G20 summit as a world power was matched by its ascendancy in the region. In the run-up to the Delhi summit, Prime Minister Modi emerged as the anchor of the ASEAN-India summit in Indonesia where he presented a framework of cooperation between India and ASEAN on issues such as connectivity, digital transformation, trade and economic partnership, collective fight against terrorism and terror funding and cyber disinformation.

SPECIAL FEATURES Moreover, India defined the ASEAN stand on the IndoPacific and Prime Minister Modi emphasised that the code of conduct for the South China Sea should be effective and should take into account the interests of countries not involved in it. Indian Prime Minister has shown an exceptional ability to go into the security concerns of India and actively lead strategic, diplomatic and political initiatives to do what was best for this country. The role of India’s National Security Advisor in all of this stands out when one looks back on what his predecessors did in moments of national crisis like 26/11 and the radical onslaught of Pak ISI in Kashmir in the early Nineties. Prime Minister Modi’s justification of friendship with the US is based not on any compulsion of humouring the latter as a superpower but on a conviction that India and the US as the two largest democracies with the proven credentials of their electoral systems, must lead the democratic world against the dictatorial regimes - amongst them the Marxist China and the ‘fundamentalist’ Pakistan - for the larger good of the world. India under the Modi regime has been able to achieve convergence of thought with countries like the US, the UK, Japan, Australia and even Saudi Arabia. The announcement of the IndiaMiddle East-Europe economic corridor in the presence of representatives of the US, France, Germany, EU, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Turkey, proved this. Prime Minister Modi highlighted the need for respecting the sovereignty of all nations implicitly conveying his disapproval of the CPEC under China’s Belt& Road Initiative(BRI) that cut through POK in the face of strong protests from India. India-Middle East-Europe economic corridor is also meant to curb the rise of Islamic Radicals with their faith-based terrorism, who were evidently receiving support from the SinoPak axis. The recent large terrorist attack of Hamas on Israel is the outcome, among other things relating to the history of the Israel-Palestine conflict, of a constant spread of radicalisation in the Muslim world. The G20 Presidency has helped India to isolate its adversaries and widen the area of support for its strategy of dealing with them. (The writer is a former Director of the Intelligence Bureau. Globally, about 87 per cent of CEOs consider implementing the same, according to the global consulting firm KPMG. The report which surveyed more than 1,300 CEOs of the world’s largest businesses, including 125 CEOs from India, said geopolitics and broader political uncertainty are now the greatest risks to business growth.

“CEOs in India are facing challenges and obstacles to growth on multiple fronts -from geopolitical uncertainty and politicisation to increased stakeholder expectations in the ESG space and the adoption of generative AI," said Yezdi Nagporewalla, Chief Executive Officer, KPMG in India. The level of confidence of Indian CEOs in their own company’s growth prospects has remained mostly unchanged from the past year (71 per cent in 2023 compared to 72 per cent in 2022). Moreover, the report showed that CEOs in India are prioritising investments in generative AI as a key competitive advantage for the future, with 66 per cent of CEOs considering it as a top investment priority for their organisation.

Bitcoin rocketing higher, topping $35,000 for the first time since May 2022 New York, Oct 24 (IANS) Bitcoin is rocketing higher, topping $35,000 for the first time since May 2022. It’s up 20 per cent over the past five days, a media report said. The famously volatile cryptocurrency has more than doubled in value this year as investors grow excited about the prospect of being able to buy bitcoin funds that trade on good old-fashioned stock exchanges rather than having to deal with less-regulated and sometimes sketchy crypto platforms, CNN reported.BlackRock applied in

www.indianews.com.au

June to register a bitcoin spot ETF, which is pending approval. The company is the largest provider of ETFs in the world, managing trillions of dollars of assets. A BlackRock bitcoin ETF would give the cryptocurrency a new sense of legitimacy.“This listing in the DTCC does not mean that the fund has actually been launched or that this will inevitably happen,” said Samer Hasn, market analyst at online brokerage XS.com. “However, it may appear as part of BlackRock’s preparations to launch the ETF

funding sex-trafficking operation

soon,” Hasn said, CNN reported. Other companies have also applied for approval to launch similar bitcoin ETFs, including Grayscale Investments. There’s another reason why bitcoin may be rising: Fear. As investors look to diversify their portfolios in uncertain times, some turn to bitcoin, ironically as a kind of digital safe haven. Sometimes dubbed “digital gold", bitcoin has become a way for investors to branch out beyond traditional stocks and bonds, CNN reported.

New York, Oct 28 (IANS) A lawsuit against fashion brand Abercrombie & Fitch -- accusing the firm of funding a sextrafficking operation -- has been filed in New York, the media reported. The company allowed ex-CEO Mike Jeffries "unfettered access" to resources to support his "criminal enterprise", documents allege. The lawsuit follows a BBC investigation into allegations Jeffries exploited men at events he hosted while CEO. A brand spokesperson said the company would not be commenting on the case. A lawyer for Jeffries said he would also not be commenting. "The courtroom is where we will deal with this matter," Brian H Bieber said in a statement. The lawsuit also accuses Jeffries and his British partner Matthew Smith of sex trafficking, sexual misconduct and rape, the BBC reported. The case has been brought under the New York Adult Survivors Act, which allows people to file civil sexual abuse claims that would have otherwise exceeded the statute of limitations.

It is seeking class action status -where one or several people sue on behalf of a much larger group. "Because of this lawsuit and the brave men that have come forward, Abercrombie will have to answer for its many unacceptable actions and inactions that have destroyed the lives of dozens of young men," said Brad Edwards, a civil lawyer who is now representing some of the alleged victims, the BBC reported. The lawsuit filed in the Southern District of New York claims that A&F knew, or should have known, it was providing the "financial lifeblood for a sex trafficking organisation" led by Mike Jeffries between at least 1992 and 2014 -while he was CEO of the company, the media reported. It alleges he used A&F's corporate resources including a jet, transportation, and unlimited amounts of cash to facilitate a sex-trafficking venture, which enabled him to accumulate "new victims at an alarming rate" and he also had access to aspiring models, the BBC reported.

ADVERTORIAL

SDA (Special Disability Accommodation) Investment Insights I

nvesting in Special Disability Accommodation (SDA) can be an intelligent financial decision, especially in South East Queensland, and here's why:

East Queensland had been experiencing significant population growth, driving demand for housing across the region.

1. Higher Rental Returns: SDA properties offer significantly higher rental yields compared to traditional residential properties. In Australia, SDA investors can earn up to five times the standard market rent. According to the latest data from the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), the government provides generous rental subsidies for SDA properties, making them a lucrative investment opportunity. This translates to secure, consistent, and substantial rental income.

• Property prices in South East Queensland have been steadily increasing over the years, providing potential for capital growth in addition to rental income.

In summary, when it comes to investing in Special Disability Accommodation (SDA) in South East Queensland, I encourage you to take the next step and learn more about the benefits it can offer. Please feel free to reach out to me, Anna, at 0424 164 980, and I'd be delighted to provide you with a personal understanding of how SDA investments work and

what you can expect from this unique opportunity. Let's have a conversation about the potential rental returns, the quality of SDA properties, government support, and the long-term value you can achieve through this investment. I'm here to help you make an informed decision and explore the exciting world of SDA investments in South East

Queensland. By Anna Khandhar Principal Lyra Homes Pty Ltd anna@lyrahomes.com.au 0424 164 980

2. Steady Demand: The demand for SDA properties is expected to remain strong in the coming years. The NDIS is a governmentfunded program that supports people with disabilities and ensures they have access to high-quality housing. As a result, there is a growing need for SDA properties. In South East Queensland, this demand is further amplified due to its rapidly growing population and diverse demographics. 3. Built to High Standards: SDA properties are built to exacting standards, offering a level of quality and durability that can be superior to standard residential properties. These properties are designed to cater to the specific needs of people with disabilities, providing essential amenities and features such as wheelchair accessibility, modified bathrooms, and safety features. This design not only enhances the quality of living for tenants but also increases the property's longterm value. 4. Government-Backed Stability: Investing in SDA properties brings a level of stability and assurance. The government's involvement through the NDIS ensures that the rental income is guaranteed and regular, with any vacancies typically filled quickly. This means that you can enjoy a consistent income stream with minimal risk. 5. Long-Term Value: SDA properties tend to hold their value well over time. Their unique design and features make them appealing to a broad range of tenants, which can help you avoid long periods of vacancy. Additionally, as South East Queensland continues to grow in population and economic activity, property values in the region are expected to appreciate. Let's take a look at some specific figures for South East Queensland: • The Queensland Government's commitment to supporting the NDIS program ensures ongoing demand for SDA properties in the region. • As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, South

Incentives to fast-track delivery of new homes announced

Brisbane, October 24 (Australia India News Newsdesk) Incentives to fast-track the delivery of new homes are now available, Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner announced recently.Cr Schrinneron October 24 visited one of the first properties that will benefit from the incentives, a community housing project in Chermside that will deliver 92 new social and affordable homes.“Brisbane is Australia’s fastest growing capital city and this is adding to the pressure on our housing sector from chronic labour shortages and supply chain disruptions,” Cr Schrinner said. “Our growth is also forecast to continue for many years to come with Brisbane’s population projected to increase by 457,000 to more than 1.7 million by 2046. We want to make housing more affordable by bringing down the cost of building. Our Housing Supply Action Plan will help tackle the current housing shortage by incentivising private industry and the community sector to kickstart construction sooner. This plan will ensure residents, regardless of whether they are owners, renters or social housing tenants, have opportunities to get into a home sooner,” he said. Cr Schrinner highlighted the fact that 96 per cent of all new residential properties are delivered by the private sector so helping them deliver homes sooner is critical to solving the current housing shortage. “The Housing Supply Action Plan will incentivise the building industry through reduced infrastructure charges for eligible projects. But the biggest winner will be our community housing providers, who will receive a 100 per cent permanent and ongoing reduction to make it even easier for them to deliver vital social housing.Under this landmark scheme our community housing providers will be able to save $1 million for every 100 homes they deliver,” he further said. According to Brisbane Housing Company Chief Executive Officer Rebecca Oelkers, the infrastructure charges relief offered under Brisbane City

Council’s Housing Supply Action Plan could deliver over $2 million in savings to BHC over the next three developments alone.“For every 100 homes that we deliver, this could mean a saving of over $1 million in infrastructures charges, providing us with the opportunity to channel these valuable funds towards new supply,” Oelkers said. “We support Brisbane City Council’s leadership in assisting providers, like BHC, to deliver more housing outcomes for Brisbane residents in housing need,” Oelkers added. Highlights of the Council’s infrastructure charge waivers available are: • 75% reduction for studio, one and two-bedroom apartments within inner-city, high-density principal and major centre areas with an existing approval since 1 January 2022 • 75% reduction for studio, one and two-bedroom build-to-rent apartments with an existing approval since 1 January 2022 • 50% reduction for studio, one and two-bedroom apartments within inner-city, high-density principal and major centre areas approved from 1 September 2023 onwards • 50% reduction for studio, one and two-bedroom build-to-rent apartments within inner-city, high-density principal and major centre areas approved from 1 September 2023 onwards • 100% permanent and ongoing reduction for registered community housing providers Speaking about the waivers, Cr Schrinner said the waivers would reduce delivery costs for both the private sector and community housing providers.“By facilitating the building of more homes in the right locations we’re helping create more homes sooner, while cutting down on urban sprawl and traffic congestion,” he said. “All projects must be completed within four years and with around 3000 fully-approved homes already eligible we hope this initiative will accelerate delivery and put a roof over thousands of heads sooner,” he added.

Bishan Singh Bedi: Audacious, outspoken, controversial but a spinner with a big heart ROTHMANS CUP

at an average of 28.71, apart from making 656 runs with the bat.

Mumbai, Oct 23 (IANS) After an embarrassing defeat to Australia in the Rothmans Cup in New Zealand in 1990, the manager of the Indian cricket team had famously declared to the media: “The entire team should be dumped into the Pacific.” That was Bishan Singh Bedi, never afraid to speak his mind, never one to mince words and always ready to call a spade a spade.

A tough taskmaster, Bedi may not have endeared himself to the various teams that he coached and managed -- from the Delhi Ranji Trophy team to the senior national team, but as a spinner par excellence, he always commanded respect, coaching players like Maninder Singh and Murali Karthik among others.

It was his aura as one of the greatest left-arm spinners the game had seen, which gave Bedi the audacity to be upfront and undiplomatic at times. His words never had the loop and spin that Bedi put in his bowling. At the core of his heart, Bishan Singh Bedi was always antiestablishment and fought with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) administrators for his teammates and fellow cricketers. A key member of India's famous spin quartet of the 1970s, left-arm spinner Bishan Singh Bedi passed away on Monday, aged 77. Bedi played 67 Tests for India between 1967 and 1979, taking 266 wickets

It was his aura and abilities as a brilliant spinner and cricketer that on many occasions foreign teams would send their spinners to train under Bedi before unleashing them on the Indian team. Bedi was never economical or frugal in dispensing with his wisdom, whoever sought it, whether an Indian or otherwise. But his teammates and rivals would also remember Bedi for his big heart as a cricketer, who was always ready to praise a batsman for attacking him and a spinner for his bowling skills. He was a man with a heart of gold. Considered to be one of the greatest left-arm spinners to have played the game, Bedi was part of the famous Indian spin quartet alongside Erapalli Prasanna,

B.S. Chandrashekar and S. Venkataraghavan that won India many matches in both home and overseas conditions in the 1970s. He also took seven wickets in 10 ODI matches, apart from captaining India in 22 Tests – with its most memorable wins coming in Melbourne and Sydney Tests in the 1977-78 tour of Australia.

Rohit held the innings together with a gritty knock laced with ten fours and three sixes, while adding 91 runs for the fourth wicket with K.L. Rahul. Suryakumar Yadav made a crucial 49 for India to go above 200.

Lucknow, Oct 29 (IANS) In front of 46,000 fans at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah bowled spells to remember for a long time as India thrashed England by 100 runs to maintain their unbeaten run in the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup and jump to the top of the points table with 12 points. Put in to bat first for the first time in the competition, India could only make 229/9 on a tricky two-paced pitch. Captain Rohit

England had scored 30 runs off their first 27 balls, but after that, Bumrah and Shami, along with Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, blew them away with a fantastic show of accurate bowling to skittle the listless defending champions for 129 in 34.5 overs. While Shami took 4-22, Bumrah was superb in 3-32. Kuldeep was great in 2-24 while Jadeja took 1-16 as England lost their fifth match in a row. Chasing 230, Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow got going by hitting five boundaries in 4.3 overs. But in an attempt to cut Jasprit Bumrah through the

Post his playing career, Bedi turned to coaching young cricketers, with Maninder Singh and Murali Kartik being his students to have played for India. He also coached Punjab, Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir teams in domestic cricket, with Punjab winning Ranji Trophy in 1992-93.

Born in Amritsar, Punjab, Bedi began his first-class career with Northern Punjab, before moving to Delhi in the 1968-69 season, shortly after making his India Test debut in 1966. His left-arm spin bowling was known for the mastery he had of flight, loop and spin, along with using subtle variations to outwit batters at the crease, with tiny adjustments made in his superior arm speed release points.

He was conferred with Arjuna Award in 1969, the Padma Shri in 1970 and the C. K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004.

Bedi also led Delhi to winning the prestigious Ranji Trophy titles in 1978-79 and 1979-80, apart from two runners-up finishes. He also had a successful stint for Northamptonshire in county cricket in England. In 102 outings for the club between 1972 and 1977, Bedi bagged 434 wickets, the most by an Indian in the English County cricket circuit, while

Though he never said it aloud, one of Bedi's regrets in his life was not seeing his son Angad Singh Bedi following in his footsteps as a great spinner.

Men’s ODI WC: Shami, Bumrah star as India maintain unbeaten streak with 100-run win over England Sharma top-scored for India with 87 from 101 balls and stood tall even as others fell around him.

averaging 20.89.

off-side, Malan could only get an inside edge shattering his stumps. The fans' voice grew louder on the very next ball as Bumrah trapped Joe Root plumb lbw with a skiddy delivery which kept low, with the batter burning a review. Relentless bowling from the Indian bowlers, where they beat the edges of the batters consistently, resulted in Ben Stokes trying to smash Mohammed Shami down the ground but was castled. There was no end to England’s trouble as Jonny Bairstow got an inside edge on the pads while trying to cut off Shami and the ball rolled onto the stumps. England’s hopes continued to slide as Kuldeep Yadav got a tossed-up delivery to turn a mile and got some grip off the pitch to leave Jos Buttler’s stumps in tatters. Shami came back in the 24th over and immediately struck on the first ball by having Moeen Ali nick behind to KL Rahul.

Of late, Bedi had been unwell and had to undergo multiple surgeries, including one on the knee which happened in late September this year. He is survived by his wife Anju, and two children: Neha and Angad, a film actor.

One still distinctly remembers being sent to his office as a cub reporter for a story on a team of school kids that Bedi had taken on a tour of England in the late 1990s. Bedi gave all figures and spells

bowled by Angad not as a doting father but as a spinner and coach, marvelling at the loop he created and the spin he imparted to his deliveries. "Best bowling figures in a match: Angad Singh Bedi, best bowling by a spinner in an innings: Angad Singh Bedi, most wickets on the tour: Angad Singh Bedi and best economy rate: Angad Singh Bedi," he recited from a paper on which he had tabulated all spells and figures of the bowlers on that tour. Bedi worked hard on his bowling and Angad did show a lot of promise early but then he found his interests elsewhere. The Almighty did not listen to Bishan Singh Bedi on that count.

Men’s ODI WC: ‘I believe it will be Australia vs India’, Nathan Lyon shares his prediction for final Lyon said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

New Delhi, Oct 30 (IANS) Australian cricketer Nathan Lyon is adamant that the old rivals five-time champions Australia and Two-time winner and hosts India will meet in ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 final in Ahmedabad on November 19. Both the teams have recorded a string of victories over the weekend with Australia clinching a high-scoring five-run win against New Zealand on Saturday, while India overcame a sluggish start to triumph over England by a margin of 100 runs the following day. “I honestly believe it will be an Australia v India final. India is the number one (favourite) for me (and) it’s been exciting to watch,"

“That being said, I think South Africa are still a dangerous team with a powerful batting lineup. You just have to look at their number three in Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen and then David Miller," he added. Lyon further said that India also have pressure as the entire nation's expectations are towards them to win the coveted trophy. "India also has the pressure of the whole nation who are expecting them to win and their fans are so passionate. In finals, Australia has the runs on the board so hopefully they can go all the way," he said. So far, the home side India are sitting on top with six wins in as may as games, South Africa are second with a 5 win and loss while New Zealand and Australia are both have four wins and two loss to their names with Kiwis sitting above the Aussies on net run rate.

Moon 40 mn years older than earlier thought, reveal crystals from lunar surface

New Delhi/Hyderabad, Oct 24 (IANS) Space sector start-up Skyroot Aerospace on Tuesday unveiled its indigenously built Vikram-1 rocket. Space, Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh, after unveiling the rocket, also inaugurated 'The MAX-Q Campus', the new headquarters of the start-up at the GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park at Mamidipally in Hyderabad. Electric cars to increase by almost 10 times by 2030: International Energy Agency

Washington, Oct 23 (IANS) Crystals brought back by Apollo astronauts in 1972 from the lunar surface have revealed that the Moon is 40 million years older than scientists thought. In a study published in the journal ‘Geochemical Perspectives Letters’, researchers used crystals to help pinpoint the time of the Moon’s formation. Their discovery pushes back the age of the Moon by 40 million years, to at least 4.46 billion years old. “These crystals are the oldest known solids that formed after the giant impact. And because we know how old these crystals are, they serve as an anchor for the lunar chronology,” said Philipp Heck, the Robert A. Pritzker Curator for Meteoritics and Polar Studies at the Field Museum in the US and a professor at the University of Chicago. The sample of lunar dust used in the study was brought back by Apollo 17 astronauts in the last crewed mission to the Moon in 1972. This dust contains tiny crystals that formed billions of years ago. These crystals are a telltale sign of when the Moon must have formed. “We were approached by our coauthors, Bidong Zhang and Audrey Bouvier, who needed a nanoscale look at these samples in order to understand them fully,” said the study’s lead author, Jennika Greer, who is now a research associate at the University of Glasgow.

www.indianews.com.au

When the Mars-size object hit the Earth and formed the Moon, the energy of the impact melted the rock that eventually became the Moon’s surface. Since the crystals must have formed after the magma ocean cooled, determining the age of the zircon crystals would reveal the minimum possible age of the Moon. A previous study by co-author Zhang suggested this age, but the most recent study marks the first use of an analytical method called atom probe tomography which “nailed down” the age of this oldest known lunar crystal. This atom-by-atom analysis, conducted using instruments at Northwestern University, showed how many of the atoms inside the zircon crystals had undergone radioactive decay. The proportion of lead isotopes that the researchers found indicated that the sample was about 4.46 billion years old.

Therefore, the Moon has to be at least that old. “It’s amazing being able to have proof that the rock you’re holding is the oldest bit of the Moon we’ve found so far. It’s an anchor point for so many questions about the Earth. When you know how old something is, you can better understand what has happened to it in its history,” Greer noted. “It’s important to know when the Moon formed,” added Heck, “because the Moon is an important partner in our planetary system. It stabilises the Earth’s rotational axis, it’s the reason there are 24 hours in a day, it’s the reason we have tides”. “Without the Moon, life on Earth would look different. It’s a part of our natural system that we want to better understand, and our study provides a tiny puzzle piece in that whole picture,” the authors noted.

New Delhi, Oct 24 (IANS) The energy world is set to change significantly by 2030, based on the current policy settings, which includes almost 10 times as many electric cars on the road worldwide, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said on Tuesday. According to the IEA's new 'World Energy Outlook 2023', the share of renewables in the global electricity mix would reach 50 per cent by 2030 from the current 30 per cent. "The transition to clean energy is happening worldwide and it's unstoppable. It's not a question of 'if', it’s just a matter of ‘how soon’ -- and the sooner the better for all of us,” said IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol. The investment in new offshore wind projects would go up by three times by 2030 in new coaland gas-fired power plants, the report mentioned. Renewables are set to contribute 80 per cent to new powergeneration capacity by 2030 under current policy settings, with solar power alone accounting for more than half of

this expansion, according to the report. “If countries deliver on their national energy and climate pledges on time and in full, clean energy progress would move even faster. However, even stronger measures would still be needed to keep alive the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degree Celsius,” the IEA report mentioned. The combination of growing momentum behind clean energy technologies and structural economic shifts around the world has major implications for fossil fuels, with peaks in global demand for coal, oil and natural gas all visible this decade. In this scenario, the share of fossil fuels in global energy supply, which has been stuck for decades at around 80 per cent, declines to 73 per cent by 2030, with global energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions peaking by 2025, the report mentioned. “Every country needs to find its own pathway, but international cooperation is crucial for accelerating clean energy transitions,” Dr Birol said.

Benefits of early detection of breast cancer through mammography need for more expensive and prolonged treatments.

New Delhi, Oct 23 (IANSlife) Breast cancer is a formidable adversary, affecting millions of women worldwide and causing substantial suffering and loss of life. However, there is a beacon of hope in the fight against this disease -- early detection through mammography. In this article, we will explore the invaluable advantages of mammography in identifying breast cancer at its earliest and most treatable stages. The importance of early detection Breast cancer, like many other forms of cancer, is most effectively treated when detected at an early stage. Mammography, a specialised X-ray of the breast, plays a crucial role in this process by identifying abnormalities that may not be noticeable through physical examination alone. Here are some of the compelling reasons why early detection through mammography is so important: Improved survival rates: When breast cancer is detected at an early, localised stage, the fiveyear survival rate is significantly higher than when it is diagnosed at a more advanced stage. Early detection provides women with a greater chance of successful treatment and long-term survival. Less aggressive treatment: Earlystage breast cancer often requires less aggressive treatments such as surgery and radiation therapy, minimising the physical and emotional toll on patients. In contrast, advanced-stage breast cancer may necessitate more extensive treatments, which can be more taxing and have a higher risk of complications. Better quality of life: Early detection can lead to smaller tumor sizes, making breastconserving surgery (such as lumpectomy) a viable option for many women. This results in better cosmetic outcomes and improved quality of life, as it preserves the natural appearance of the breast. Lower healthcare costs: The cost of treating advanced-stage breast cancer is substantially higher than treating early-stage disease. Early detection through mammography can reduce healthcare expenditures by preventing the

Increased treatment options: Detecting breast cancer at an early stage provides patients with a wider range of treatment options, including the possibility of participating in clinical trials for innovative therapies. Emotional well-being: The anxiety and emotional distress associated with a breast cancer diagnosis are often alleviated when the disease is caught early. Women who undergo routine mammography screenings tend to experience less fear and uncertainty compared to those diagnosed at a later stage. The role of mammography Mammography is the gold standard for breast cancer screening. It is a safe and effective imaging technique that can detect breast cancer in its earliest stages, often before symptoms develop. Here's how mammography works: X-ray imaging: During a mammogram, the breast is compressed between two plates, and X-rays are used to create detailed images of the breast tissue. These images, called mammograms, can reveal small abnormalities, including tumors that are too small to be felt during a physical examination. Early detection: Mammography can detect breast cancer at an early stage when it is confined to the breast and has not spread to nearby lymph nodes or distant organs. This early detection is crucial for effective treatment and improved outcomes. Regular screening: The recommended age to start regular mammography screening varies by country and medical guidelines, but it generally begins between the age of 40 and 50. The frequency of screening may also vary, but annual mammograms are common. Treatment options: When breast cancer is diagnosed, treatment options vary depending on factors such as the stage of the disease, the type of breast cancer, and the patient's overall health. Common treatment modalities include: Surgery: Surgical options range from breast-conserving surgery, such as lumpectomy or partial mastectomy, to mastectomy, which involves removing the entire breast. Lymph node removal may also be necessary to determine if cancer has spread.

the energy balance theory, which proposes too much food (and primarily fat) drives obesity, and the carbohydrate-insulin model, which puts carbohydrates at the centre of weight gain.

uses high-energy rays to target and kill cancer cells. It is often used after breast-conserving surgery to eliminate any remaining cancer cells. Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy involves the use of drugs to kill cancer cells or stop their growth. It can be administered orally or intravenously and is typically recommended for advancedstage breast cancer or as adjuvant therapy after surgery. Hormone therapy: Hormone therapy is effective for hormone receptor-positive breast cancers. It involves medications that block hormones like estrogen or progesterone, which can fuel the growth of certain breast cancers. Targetted therapy: Targeted therapies are drugs that specifically target proteins or genes involved in cancer growth. They are used in cases of HER2positive breast cancer, which over expresses the HER2 protein. Immunotherapy: Immunotherapy works by stimulating the body's immune system to recognise and attack cancer cells. While still being researched for breast cancer, it shows promise in certain cases. Clinical trials: Participation in clinical trials can provide access to innovative treatments and therapies that are still in the experimental phase, potentially offering new hope for patients. The choice of treatment depends on individualised care plans developed by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals. It's essential for patients to have open and informed discussions with their healthcare providers to make the best treatment decisions tailored to their unique circumstances. The benefits of early detection of breast cancer through mammography cannot be overstated. It offers women the opportunity for less aggressive treatment, better outcomes, and improved quality of life. As a physician, I strongly encourage all eligible women to prioritise regular mammography screenings as part of their healthcare routine. Early detection saves lives, and it is our most potent weapon in the battle against breast cancer. (Chandrashekhar Prasad Singh, consultant -- Medical oncologist, HCG Cancer Centre, Ranchi)

New York, Oct 24 (IANS) Nutritional experts have for years debated on the primary culprit for increasing obesity. While diets that are high in fat and carbohydrates contribute to the condition, it turns out, fructose may be one true driver of obesity, according to a study. According to Richard Johnson, from University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, the primary problem in obesity is fructose -- which is present in table sugar and high fructose corn syrup. Fructose can also be made in the body from carbohydrates (particularly glucose). When fructose is metabolised, it lowers the active energy in the body (known as ATP, or adenosine triphosphate) which causes hunger and food intake. What Johnson calls the “fructose survival hypothesis” brings together most of the dietary hypotheses of obesity, including

“Fructose is what triggers our metabolism to go into low power mode and lose our control of appetite, but fatty foods become the major source of calories that drive weight gain,”Johnson said. Obesity is a known risk factor for various diseases including heart disease, diabetes, cancer and dementia. Data from the World Health Organisation (WHO) shows that worldwide, more than 1 billion people are obese -- 650 million adults, 340 million adolescents, and 39 million children. The World Obesity Federation predicts that by 2030, one in five women and one in seven men will have obesity. The new study published in the research journal Obesity suggests various obesity causing theories are not incompatible with each other, and that they can all be brought together in one unified pathway that centres around one true driver: fructose.

Heated yoga sessions for just once a week may reduce depression

New York, Oct 23 (IANS) Heated yoga sessions for just once a week may help reduce depression, indicating that heated yoga could be a viable treatment option for patients suffering from moderate-to-severe depressive symptoms, new research has claimed. In a randomised controlled clinical trial of adults with moderate-to-severe depression, led by investigators at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), depressive symptoms were reduced even in participants who received only half of the prescribed yoga "dose", suggesting that heated yoga sessions just once a week could be beneficial.

In the eight-week trial, 80 participants were randomised into two groups: one that received 90-minute sessions of Bikram yoga practiced in a 40.5 degree celsius room and a second group that was placed on a waitlist (waitlist participants completed the yoga intervention after their waitlist period). A total of 33 participants in the yoga group and 32 in the waitlist group were included in the analysis. Participants in the intervention group were prescribed at least two yoga classes per week, but overall, they attended an average of 10.3 classes over eight weeks. After eight weeks, yoga participants had a significantly greater reduction in depressive symptoms than waitlisted participants, as assessed through what's known as the clinicianrated Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (IDS-CR) scale.

Indian cinema confronts misogyny and toxic masculinity

ard ko dard nahi hota." These iconic words, immortalized by Amitabh Bachchan in the cult classic "Mard," have resonated through generations, embodying a tough, unyielding image of masculinity. For years, these words were more than just a line; they were a mantra, symbolizing a stoic, impervious concept of manhood. Yet, in the everevolving world of Indian cinema, this phrase is being redefined, not just in the characters on screen but in the industry itself.

ARTS & CULTURE

For decades, Indian cinema has been both celebrated and criticised for its portrayal of women and masculinity - as seen in films like "Damini" and "Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat.". While some films have broken barriers and empowered female characters, others have perpetuated regressive stereotypes. But change is in the air, and it’s not limited to the scripts. Behind the scenes, a new generation of filmmakers, actors, and producers are leading the charge for a more inclusive and progressive film industry. They’re reshaping the industry by crafting narratives that reflect women's perspectives authentically. Recent films like “Thank You For Coming” and “Bebaak” exemplify this commitment to authenticity. These movies dive deep into the complexities of gender dynamics and societal expectations. In Bebaak, which premiered in JioCinemaFilmFest, the story sheds light on a woman’s journey to break free from oppressive norms and find her voice in a patriarchal society. Anurag Kashyap, the producer of “Bebaak,” eloquently sums up the need for change in the industry, saying, “I don't like how when something bad happens to a woman, we say stuff like 'Ghar Ki Izzat Lutt Gyi,' tying it to her family's honor. Why not treat men the same way? Back in the day, we hid things, making women seem like they were our property. That's

not cool. Male insecurity is a big part of why we have patriarchy. Women are strong, but some guys get scared they'll be too independent." It's not just filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap. Leading male actors are also not shying away from using their star power to challenge toxic masculinity. In "Kaalkoot" (available on JioCinema), Vijay Varma plays the role of a police officer, delivering a powerful exploration of societal issues that force audiences to confront the uncomfortable truths of the patriarchy. Recent films like "Bawaal" and "Satyaprem Ki Katha" also boldly explored the challenging terrain of toxic masculinity and misogyny, offering a gripping portrayal of societal issues and personal struggles. Entertainment in India is undergoing a transformation, not just on the big screen but in the very fabric of its existence. Prominent stars are increasingly selective in choosing brands that align with their values. Many are rejecting roles that promote gender stereotypes. In a recent interview Tamannaah Bhatia, Was asked about the ‘toxic masculinity in the south’ and if there were any scenes or films where she didn’t agree to it, Tamannaah Bhatia said, “ In certain commercial films, I couldn’t relate to my characters and would request that the filmmaker lower the intensity. Having said that, I came to a point where I stopped doing those parts. I started making a conscious effort not to be part of such films where toxic masculinity is celebrated to the point where it is almost intolerable.” As Indian cinema continues to evolve and tackle pressing social issues, ‘Bebaak’ and ‘Kaalkoot’ stand as beacons of change, urging audiences to confront uncomfortable realities and challenge the deeply ingrained norms that perpetuate toxic masculinity and misogyny.

What is the right age to start using hyaluronic acid?

People in their 20s and 30s can benefit from using this product

By Dr. Ravi Kothari

I

f you search for any skincare advice, there’s a high chance you’ll stumble upon an ingredient called hyaluronic acid. From serums to moisturizers, to aesthetic procedures, hyaluronic acid has become the magic potion in today’s skincare routines. But what is hyaluronic acid? If you’re suffering from rough and dull skin, with an increase in fine lines and overly visible pores, it means your skin needs water. Lack of hydration is often the underlying cause behind secondary issues like premature aging and acne, too. And this is where hyaluronic acid steps in. It is the key to smooth, flawless, and hydrated skin. Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the human body – it acts as a magnet, drawing in and retaining moisture in a binding process that instantly improves skin’s hydration levels. Each molecule can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water. Due to free radicals, toxins in the environment, and aging, the level of hyaluronic acid tends to decrease and then the skin needs supplemental hyaluronic acid. This super ingredient also plays an important role in skin elasticity, metabolism, skin regeneration, and healing. The result is plump skin with glowing,

healthy skin with reduced fine lines, dullness, and uneven texture. Mastering the art of hyaluronic acid Hyaluronic acid, these days, is commonly found in moisturizing and anti-aging skin care products such as serums, face washes, lotions, and masks in its fragmented or traditional form. It also comes in dietary supplements and pills. However, for effective long-lasting results, aesthetic procedures like bioremodeling work best. Bioremodeling, also synonymous with Profhilo treatment, is specifically formulated to target skin laxity by providing nourishment and structural support to deep layers of the skin. As an injectable, it has one of the highest concentrations of ultrapure hyaluronic acid and stimulates long-term collagen production without the need for invasive or ablative procedures. The effects of the stabilized skin bio-remodeling serum persist for a duration of 5-6 months following the procedure, a significantly extended duration compared to unstable topical and injectable formulas. After this period, individuals can consider maintenance therapy if necessary. The treatment regimen, designed to be convenient for users, consists of two short

and painless sessions, spaced one month apart. During the process, Profhilo is applied using the BAP (bio aesthetics points) technique, utilizing a single 2 ml syringe. There is a total of 10 injection points, and the risk of bruising or hematomas is minimal to almost non-existent. Patients predominantly notice improvements in skin lifting and texture. Besides the face, Profhilo can also be injected into the neck and hands. The right age to start using hyaluronic acid Hyaluronic acid is an outstanding substance. From boosting skin, eye, and joint health to accelerating wound healing, it covers them all. Hyaluronic acid is usually well-tolerated by most skin types and choosing one comes down to personal preference. In general, people in their 20s and 30s can benefit from using this product. Due to hormones and stress factors, this age group tends to need extra moisture and hydration for their skin. As for those in their 40s and above, they, too, can get excellent results from using hyaluronic acid as it stimulates collagen production, fosters a more moisturized environment, enhances the skin's natural repair and regeneration processes, and diminishes signs of aging. For those considering early anti-aging measures, hyaluronic acid is a recommended starting point. Treatments like Profhilo, generally safe with no known side effects, operate on multiple levels to sustain youthful, radiant, and healthy skin. f you use sunscreen every day and have a variety of skincare products on your counter, you probably believe your beauty routine is flawless. However, there are some simple steps that many of us take every day that may reduce the quality of our skincare. Dr. Jatin Mittal, cosmetologist and skin expert at Abhivrit Aesthetics in New Delhi, reveals seven skincare blunders you're probably not aware you're committing. Drying your face with a towel Many of us go for a towel to dry our faces as soon as we finish washing them. You must stop doing this immediately since dirty towels can harbour bacteria and exacerbate acne on your face and back if not washed daily. Dr. Jatin instead advised washing your towels frequently or air drying your face and applying skincare while it was still moist. However, avoid doing so while utilising active ingredients such as salicylic acid, retinol, niacinamide, and vitamin C. Applying skin care products in the wrong order If you apply moisturisers, serums, and retinol to your face at random, it's likely that they

won't work as well as they should. According to Dr. Jatin, applying skincare should be done in a certain order, from thinnest to thickest products. Forgetting to reapply sunscreen "If you apply sunscreen every day as directed, you may assume your routine is set in stone. You must, however, reapply SPF every two hours. Particularly if you have hyperpigmentation, a condition in which some areas of your skin get darker as a result of UV exposure or acne scars." says Dr. Jatin. Applying your hyaluronic acid to dry skin To get the most out of hyaluronic acid, apply it to damp skin rather than dry skin and follow it up with a moisturiser, according to skincare experts. Using your fingers to scoop out your product Dr. Jatin strongly cautioned against scooping goods from jars with your fingers or fingernails. He cautioned that doing so could reintroduce bacteria into your cream. He recommends washing your hands thoroughly before dipping them into your products or using a scoop or spatula that you wash and dry after each use.

Tips to maintain hair extensions in the best condition A combination of careful product selection, gentle handling, and regular maintenance By Mani Tyagi October 15, 2023 (IANSlife) Hair extensions are a great way to enhance your natural beauty and achieve the hair you've always dreamed of. Although the extensions are guaranteed to look beautiful the moment you walk out of the salon, keeping them looking flawless depends on how you care for them in the comfort of your own home. It is very important to ensure that you follow a strict aftercare routine, which will help to boost the longevity of your extensions. This is important at all times, but even more so when you’re unable to attend your maintenance appointments as regularly as you’d hoped. Here are some essential tips for maintaining your hair extensions: Choose High-Quality Hair Extensions Invest in high-quality hair extensions right from the www.indianews.com.au

beginning. Remy human hair extensions are considered the best option as they are made from real human hair and designed to mimic your natural locks. They blend seamlessly and last longer than synthetic alternatives.

and manageable. Avoid harsh rubbing or twisting of hair, as this can cause to damage and tangling. Gently massage the shampoo into the hair and rinse thoroughly. Conditioning is essential to keep the extensions hydrated.

Brush extensions Gently and Regularly

Never Sleep with a Wet Extension

Brush your hair extensions gently and regularly to prevent tangles and knots. Use a soft-bristle brush or a loop brush specifically designed for extensions. Start at the ends and work your way up to the roots, holding the hair near the roots to avoid pulling on the extensions themselves. Brushing helps maintain the hair's smoothness and shine. Wash with Care Wash your hair extensions as needed to remove dirt, oil, and product buildup. Use a sulfatefree, moisturizing shampoo and conditioner to keep the hair soft

Many of us love a soothing bath at the end of the day to ensure a restful night's sleep. However, sleeping with wet hair extensions is a surefire way to cause damage. Wet hair is more delicate and prone to breakage, which can result in painful and troublesome knots and tangles, ultimately shortening the lifespan of your extensions. To ensure they remain in the best possible condition, allow your extensions to air-dry for a while before turning in. In the case of clip-in extensions, it's advisable to remove them before sleeping, showering, or swimming. Minimise Heat Damage facebook.com/indianewsaustralia

While high-quality human hair extensions can tolerate heat styling, excessive use of heat tools can damage them over time. If you must use heat, apply a heat protectant spray and use lower temperature settings on your styling tools. Reduce the frequency of heat styling to prolong the life of your extensions said Mani Tyagi co-founder of Gemeria Hair. Protect Your Hair While Sleeping To prevent tangling while you sleep, tie your hair extensions in a loose braid or ponytail. Alternatively, invest in a silk or satin pillowcase, which reduces friction and keeps your hair extensions smooth. Avoid Chlorine and Saltwater Chlorine from pools and saltwater from the ocean can be harsh on hair extensions. If you plan to swim, protect your extensions with a swim cap or a leave-in

conditioner. After swimming, rinse your hair thoroughly with fresh water to remove chlorine or salt residue. Be Mindful of Products Choose hair care products specifically formulated for extensions. Avoid using products that contain alcohol, as they can dry out the hair. Opt for sulfatefree and paraben-free options to maintain the hair's natural luster and texture. Schedule Regular Maintenance Hair extensions require periodic maintenance to ensure they stay in optimal condition. Depending on the type of extensions you have, you may need to visit a professional stylist for adjustments and reinstallation. Regular maintenance ensures your extensions continue to look fresh and last longer. (Mani Tyagi, Co-founder of Gemeria Hair)

Karan Johar reveals SRK’s support helped him ‘Ghost’ director Srini deconstructs the craze for southern cinema embrace his true self: ‘He was just so cool’ Kuch Hota Hai' director said: “It's what he didn't say. It's what he didn't bring up, it's what he normalised. When I sat funny, walked funny, did or said campy things, he laughed, hanged out with me, chat with me. And that's all that matters."

ilmmaker Karan Johar has expressed his love and fondness for superstar Shah Rukh Khan, sharing how the latter was the first person, who didn't made him feel lesser in terms of sexuality. In a podcast 'We Are Yuvaa', KJo has opened up on his childhood trauma, sexuality and his confidant Shah Rukh Khan. KJo said: "I think the first person that made me feel that I was okay was Shah Rukh Khan. He has been and brought up in a very progressive environment, he comes from theatre, he has worked with all kinds of people." "My parents won't be able to understand things, I felt the feminine side I had that was coming out so strongly, was only met with laughter or being made fun of," shared KJo.

Karan said: "When I grew older, people around me were quiet, there were chitter chatter around, maybe the way I walked, spoke etc. SRK was the first man who didn't made me feel lesser. He made me feel like an equal. He accepted what in those days be like considered being a pansy, feminine, or walking funny. He was just so cool about everything." "He had a lot of open chats with me. Even when I had to say the biggest thing about my personality and sexuality, I spoke to him first. Because I felt like he would be that one influence and sense of support. I feel like Indian cinema has painted the most flawed interpretations of what a man should be," said the 51-yearold director. Speaking on SRK's first reaction about KJo's sexuality, the 'Kuch

On his childhood trauma, Karan shared: "I haven't learnt to love myself as much as possibly the world would imagine that I do. I have many body issues even now. When I step into a swimming pool, it had to be in a private surrounding. I am not comfortable with my body even now. What I am comfortable is with my self." "The moment I wear that black suit it's like my armour, the moment I get into fashion that's when I found my voice. I realised I want to wear what I want to, no matter what people say," he said. Karan added: "The people on social media comment on my clothing, saying I am cheap copy of Ranveer Singh, they call me 'GayJo'. But all that doesn't bother me. Now, I have developed a thick skin for that." On the work front, Karan recently directed 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani', starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. He next has 'Yodha’, 'Jigra' in the pipeline.

irector M.G Srinivas, professionally known as Srini, has just released his grand heistaction-thriller film 'Ghost' on the big screen and it has gotten much appreciation. The power-packed film which boasts a star studded cast consisting of Shivarajkumar, Anupam Kher, Jayaram, Prashant Narayan and Archana Jois is part of a three-part movie trilogy called the ‘Birbal’ trilogy, which is the lead up to an entire cinematic universe. Speaking exclusively to IANS, director-actor Srini spoke about both ‘Ghost’, the ‘Birbal’ trilogy as well as elaborated on why Bollywood has begun to adapt Southern Indian elements into their films. Talking about how he came up with the story for ‘Ghost’, he said: “ ‘Ghost’ actually is based on a real incident. There was an incident that happened back in Chennai regarding a CBI raid, it was in the papers. So I remember studying it and it quite fascinated me. So one thing led to another, and as I was forming my story there was a spark which led me to make the film, adding in action and all the standard elements. So it became a heist-action-thriller.” Detailing his experience of working with the veteran Kannada actor Shivarajkumar, Srini said: “Oh it was a great experience. I have known him for many years and have worked with him before.

The price of the swanky car is reported to be Rs four crore. She has opted for the red colour. Reportedly, the puja for the same will be held at ISKCON temple on Wednesday.

“He just makes you very comfortable. When you are working with him, you honestly forget that you are working with such a legendary actor. I mean he just makes you that comfortable because he is such a humble and down-to-earth person.”

The photo that went viral on the internet, shows Shraddha flashing her beautiful smile, while sitting down alongside her new purchase. She is wearing a floral white and pink salwar suit, with minimal makeup and a bindi. In a video, we can see her driving her new car, with a man sitting next to the driver's seat. She is flashing her smile for the paparazzi, and is seen swiftly driving the car.

Elaborating on the film’s production and music, Srini added: “There are not that many stunts in ‘Ghost’ but for those that are there, Shivanna insisted that he do them on his own. So we had stunt people to help him choreograph, but all the stunts you see on-screen he did them on his own.”

Fans showered love on Shraddha and congratulated her on the social media. Some netizens commented: "Driving like a pro", "she is doing everything with confidence", "sign me up for your new driver", etc.

The director said: “Then with regards to music, I think Arjun Janya has done a fabulous job. For the music he had to go beyond just the mainstream stuff. Here, his music had to be different from what he normally does and he knew it. So he experimented a lot

with different stuff and he did it very well, it actually was his first time making this kind of music.” Describing how his ‘Birbal’ trilogy came to be, he said: “I had formulated the idea a while back. So it was already planned from my side, it wasn’t just a spur-ofthe-moment decision to make it into a trilogy. I mean true, there were many changes in the end product, but I always wanted to make it a trilogy. Action, crime, thriller, heist, maybe more. The Birbal’ trilogy is something I had planned on for a while.” The director went on to further explain his desire for experimenting with heist, as well as explore other genres. Detailing this, he said: “Yes, I absolutely plan to explore the heist genre further. I mean we have ‘Ghost’ here, and before that there is ‘Birbal’ which is a crimethriller. So it all forms a pattern. “I never want to remain static, there is always room to grow and experiment further. Whether your experimentation succeeds or not is something else, but if I were to keep doing just one genre and even if it became like a megablockbuster thing, I wouldn’t do it," he added. Srini went on to speak of the traction that Southern India cinema has gotten in the Hindi belt for the last few years, and how Bollywood is now changing its own style because of it. He said: “Firstly, it all has to do with the screens. Early on screens were available in maybe like a few hundreds, maybe thousand. Most of them would be taken by Hindi cinema, and the regional films would have little to no exposure in the North. Srini continued, "There was no social media at that time and the internet at that time wasn’t what it is today. Things changed as the screenings increased. Certain regional films would become blockbusters when they went to the North, and then via word of mouth they would be aired on television. People would watch dubbed versions on TV which gave the regional scene more mainstream exposure. And now, we have OTT where everything is available to watch.”
