INDICATE

An interactive cloudbased tool usable by a variety of stakeholders for the dynamic energy assessment of multiple entities in urban areas

Stakeholder Consultation Throughout the course of the INDICATE

project, partners will consult with the various stakeholders to ensure that the final interactive cloud-based tool is able to support those involved in making decisions towards transforming their cities into smart cities. To learn more about stakeholder engagement activities undertaken to date, visit the INDICATE website: http://www.indicate-smartcities.eu/

Market Analysis The analysis presented in the report highlights that INDICATE, a new ICT tool useful for urban planning that incorporates both dynamic simulation and a virtual city model in a single software platform, has the potential to enter the market with a comparative advantage over competitors. City Characterization The aim of INDICATE Task 2.1 is to identify and characterise the components of the city that are relevant to its energy performance. Component subsystems within the city that are important to model in order to capture its energy performance were identified as: (i.) Energy sources; (ii). Energy sinks; (iii). Energy networks; (iv) Energy storage; and, (v) Socioeconomics (dynamic pricing and occupants). To learn more about city characterization, please visit our INDICATE Youtube channel, which includes a presentation on this task, as well as a number of other INDICATE related topics: https://www.youtube.com/

Energy Efficiency The research undertaken in project Task 3.1 considered urban energy efficiency in this wider context while acknowledging the interrelationships that exist between the various sectors in society and the multiple components of the urban and built environment. A key component was the investigation of sustainability and energy efficiency methodologies currently being used to monitor and quantify energy consumption in the urban environment, and based on this the formulation of a Requirements List that would support the INDICATE tool as a robust and defensible methodology. Recent Events Partners have presented on key components of the INDICATE project at the following events: ECTP-E2BA Conference, 17-19 June 2014, Brussels Sustainability in Energy and Buildings, Conference, 25-27 JUNE, 2014, Cardiff (Wales)

Upcoming Events INDICATE partners will be presenting at the upcoming eCAADe Conference, September 10-12, 2014, Newcastle, UK (www.ecaade.org)

INDICATE will support key stakeholders in the transformation towards

smart & sustainable cities. The project will develop an interactive cloud-based tool to enable dynamic energy assessment of mulitiple entities within the urban environment. The partners, from the UK, Ireland, Italy & Switzerland, include: 2 large companies; 2 SMEs; 2 universities: & 2 public authorities. Expertise in the group includes: Dynamic Simulation Modelling; GIS Development; 3D Urban CAD Modelling; Demand Side Management; Sustainable Urban Indicators; Business Model Development for Energy in Cities; & Integration of Energy Effeciency Solutions & Demand on Fossil Fuels.

INDICATE is supported by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme Grant Agreement no. 60877
