We hope you enjoy this newsletter. The INDICATE Team
based tool usable by a variety of stakeholders for the dynamic energy assessment of multiple entities in urban areas
Evaluation Methodology and Benchmarking Framework WP6 ties together the work from WP’s 1-5 to build and evaluate models for the test sites in Dundalk and Genoa. The first step in doing this is T6.1 which lays out the evaluation methodology and benchmarking framework that will be used to evaluate the software tools produced in the INDICATE project. We will use user testing to extract performance metrics, issue based metrics and satisfaction metrics. Real time data gathered from the Living Lab in Dundalk will be used to benchmark the algorithms and models.
Meanwhile: Technical work has started for the project, specifically how building related data will be passed between the IES and ESRI software platforms. Initial tests were carried out with relation to passing 2D data between the systems, and this has proven to be quite successful, which means INDICATE can now move towards sharing more complex 3D data. Another significant task carried out has centered on creating a library of typologies for different room and building types. The idea here is that when users do not have information available for particular buildings, they can rely on this library to “fill in the gaps”.
Partner Focus: Galliera Galliera Hospital is one of three test sites participating in the INDICATE project. While the sites in Dundalk will use existing buildings and infrastructure – serving as sources of building and energy data – the pilot site in Galliera is different in that it comprises a redevelopment construction project. The hospital’s role in the INDICATE project will be useful in that it will generate a highly detailed BIM model (Building Information Modeling) that will include all the features of the new building and its facilities. Galliera will showcase how the INDICATE tool will facilitate master-planning at the scale of a large single redevelopment project, as well as at the larger urban scale.
The Galliera project illustrates how INDICATE will provide professionals with a strategic software tool that will produce various simulation models, to allow architects, engineers, urban planners and other professionals to make better choices with regards to energy efficient urban development.
Recent Events As part of EU Energy Week, Louth County Council ran an energy awareness day wherein they showcased their role and the overall objectives of the INDICATE project.
Minister for Energy, Alex White during a tour of the Great Northern Haven. Here he is getting briefed on the INDICATE project, and the GNH’s role as a test site for calibrating and validating the INDICATE tool.
Upcoming Events INDICATE has been selected to participate in Festival Sciencia in September 2015.
INDICATE will support key stakeholders in the transformation towards
smart & sustainable cities. The project will develop an interactive cloud-based tool to enable dynamic energy assessment of mulitiple entities within the urban environment. The partners, from the UK, Ireland, Italy & Switzerland, include: 2 large companies; 2 SMEs; 2 universities: & 2 public authorities. Expertise in the group includes: Dynamic Simulation Modelling; GIS Development; 3D Urban CAD Modelling; Demand Side Management; Sustainable Urban Indicators; Business Model Development for Energy in Cities; & Integration of Energy Effeciency Solutions & Demand on Fossil Fuels.
INDICATE is supported by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme Grant Agreement no. 608775
