elcome to the INDICATE newsletter!
This is the final newsletter of the INDICATE Project. The project which began in 2013 was funded by the European Commission under Framework Program 7. Supporting decision makers and other stakeholders towards transforming their cities to a ‘Smart’ City, the INDICATE project has led to the development of an interactive cloud-based tool, providing dynamic assessment of the interactions between buildings, the electricity grid, and Renewable Technologies and Information Communication Technologies (ICT). An interactive cloudbased tool usable by a variety of stakeholders for the dynamic energy assessment of multiple entities in urban areas
INDICATE: The final Project Phase
The final phase of the project was a very busy one. The INDICATE project has led to the development of an interactive cloudbased tool, providing dynamic assessment of the interactions between buildings, the electricity grid, and Renewable Technologies and Information Communication Technologies (ICT).
To this end, the first prototype of the INDICATE tool was released, and after some very useful user testing and feedback, some improvements were made, primarily to do with the dashboards and user experience. Although the project has officially ended, the next step is bringing the prototype to the commercial stage. In this regard, discussions will start between the main software partners IES and ESRI.
The Final Dissemination workshop The third dissemination workshop was held on Friday, September 16, 2016 in the Hospital Galliera in Genoa. The halfday session attracted approximately 35 professionals from the fields of urban planning, architecture, energy and engineering. The workshop introduced participants to the project and demonstrated the live version of the protoype of the new dashboard. The session provided some excellent feedback regarding stakeholder expectations and requirements for the INDICATE tool. The feedback ranged from the ability to assess cities through the Common City Index, to the ability to cross reference city indicators to create new dashboard charts to support urban decision-making.

INDICATE will support key stakeholders in the transformation towards
smart & sustainable cities. The project will develop an interactive cloud-based tool to enable dynamic energy assessment of mulitiple entities within the urban environment. The partners, from the UK, Ireland, Italy & Switzerland, include: 2 large companies; 2 SMEs; 2 universities: & 2 public authorities. Expertise in the group includes: Dynamic Simulation Modelling; GIS Development; 3D Urban CAD Modelling; Demand Side Management; Sustainable Urban Indicators; Business Model Development for Energy in Cities; & Integration of Energy Effeciency Solutions & Demand on Fossil Fuels.
