In "If I Were a T-Rex", a young boy imagines what it would be like to be a T-Rex and the amazing things he could do. This is a book that is sure to spark the imagination of children everywhere! "This is such a cute book! The illustrations are bright, eye catching and could easily help an early reader decipher the text. As a preschool teacher, this book is definitely an asset to the classroom and so easy to build a lesson plan around. Highly recommend to teachers and parents of dinosaur fans!" - Online reviewer

Whether it's the first day of pre-k or kindergarten, summer school or the fall term, the prospect of a new environment can be daunting for some children. In the second of the "If I Were a T-Rex" series My First Day of School, a young boy nervous about his first day of school, imagines how as a T-Rex he would handle the situation. After an enjoyable day he then looks forward to the fun and learning in the days to come. This book is not only perfect for young children nervous about their first day of school but also for those who look forward to it with excitement. Gary W. Truitt and Frank Dawson Jr. Format: 8 x 8 paperback List price $12.99 IG price for 1 to 9 books: $9.99 Price for 10 or more books: $7.99 Comparable titles: Kindergarten Here I Come, The Pigeon Has To Go To School, The Night Before Kindergarten

If I Were A T-Rex (T-Rex Series Volume 1) is perfect for the young girl or boy that really likes dinosaurs. The illustrations are well done with many different pictures of the T-Rex being many different things. I think it certainly sparks the imagination of a child to share in the pretending and learn that it is possible for them to be whatever they can think of in their playtime. This is a whimsical book that is fun for the pre-school and early education child and especially those that are interested in the world of dinosaurs. I read this book on the Kindle with my five-year-old granddaughter and she found it very entertaining. Each picture was reason for conversation about whether or not she thought it was something she would want to be and if she thought the T-Rex would be good at it. Her favorite “If I Were” was that she and the T-Rex could walk on the moon together. It was a good sharing of ideas and time well spent with my grandchild. She wanted to read it again and again and had different ideas of what she and the T-Rex could do each time we read it. Gary Truitt and Frank Dawson definitely understand the mind of a young child. While If I Were A T-Rex features a little boy, my granddaughter thought nothing of it and was quickly involved in the story. I think that If I Were a T-Rex is a fun story that offers the opportunity for learning and sharing ideas and is a sure winner. - Readers’ Favorite

Leon Opio

Mr. Nimbus arrives at Jamestown Middle School during the reign of the Davey brothers. The brothers have terrorized most of the students at the school. Before their growth spurt and becoming physically stronger, the Davey brothers were themselves bullied. But since they’ve obviously have forgotten what it’s like to be on the receiving end of harassment, Mr. Nimbus has a magical lesson in store so they will learn once and for all. Although much of this story is told from a fantasy perspective, young readers can still learn a valuable lesson about the effects of bullying. Leon Opio ISBN-13: 978-0692378816 Format: 6 x 9 paperback List price $9.99 IG price for 1 to 9 books $7.99 Price for 10 or more books: $5.99 Comparable titles: Confessions of a Former Bully, Seven Chances, John Drake, Bully

The Davey Brothers. To the other denizens of Jamestown Middle School, that name was as frightening as “Al Capone” or “The James Gang” would have been to the citizens of a small town in times past. Mark and Michael Davey ruled the school. There was nothing that the other kids could do—those being tormented knew that telling on them would bring more agony, and those who witnessed the brothers’ “work” knew better than to open their mouths. No way did they want to endure what the Davey Brothers could inflict. Eliza, Jonathan, and George are some of the brothers’ favorite targets, and life is getting desperate for them. How would they ever survive middle school? Enter the new teacher, Mr. Nimbus. No one looks for him to rescue them; after all, the teachers themselves turn a blind eye to what is going on. They don’t want odd things to happen to them or their belongings either. They doubt he’ll be any different. Soon enough, though, Mr. Nimbus (who had witnessed the terrorizing style of Mark and Michael), has befriended the trio of bullied victims. He tells them that, with a simple wish, all of the problems with the Daveys would be over. Now, since their new teacher didn’t have wings and a wand, Jonathan and his friends are very skeptical about this wish thing. Until they try it. You see, there is something very magical about a wish—and about Mr. Nimbus. It’s hard to fathom that a book about bullies and bullying could be heart-warming. But this book is definitely just that. Mr. Opio takes an all-too-common scenario and turns it on its ear. His tale makes the reader think about consequences—on both sides of the conflict. His heart—and thus his writing—is fair and just. Not only that, however—it makes for an intelligent, entertaining, and thought-provoking read. Highly recommended!–Kitty Muse Book Reviews

For generations, the Frost family has run the Museum of Magical and Rare Artifacts, handing down guardianship from mother to daughter, always keeping their secrets to family only. Gathered within museum's walls is a collection dedicated to the Grimm fairy tales and to the rare items the family has acquired: Cinderella's glass slipper, Snow White's poisoned apple, the evil queen's magic mirror, Sleeping Beauty's enchanted spinning wheel... First Frost is the first book in the Frost series written by Liz DeJesus. Bianca Frost smiles as she listens to her mother read ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarves’ to the children during Storytelling Hour in the Princess Room of the Museum for Magical and Rare Artifacts. Her mother, Rose, reads to the children three times per week, each time with a new story, much to the delight of the children and their parents. It had been ten years since Bianca’s father had mysteriously disappeared without a trace and she often thought about him. On returning home one night, after feeling something was terribly wrong, Bianca walks into the middle of a battle of magic between her mother and another woman, who then tries to kill Bianca. Realizing that magic is actually real, Bianca now sees the museum’s magical artifacts in a whole new scary light and is further horrified to learn what had really happened to her father. With the clock now ticking, Rose needs to teach her daughter to become a magical warrior in order to prevent their blood line from being eliminated completely in a war which began many generations ago. Liz DeJesus has produced an incredibly imaginative novel which was not at all what I expected. I felt sorry for Bianca in so many ways, especially in that she lost her father when she was so young. I pictured First Frost being a book about a cooler climate, but was pleasantly surprised by the story within which was fast-paced and introduces a girl who’d had her whole family lineage hidden from her. Liz DeJesus has created two very strong female roles – Bianca Frost and her mother, Rose – both of whom are able to protect themselves from harm on a whole new level. Each of the well-known (and not so well-known) fairy tales were so cleverly introduced, taking me back to my childhood years, although the revelations in First Frost most definitely painted them in a whole new light. I very much enjoyed reading the first book in the Frost series and would recommend this book to anybody who loves mystery, drama, and humor dished up with a huge dollop of magic on the side. - Readers’ Favorite review

This is embarrassing. Grown men are not supposed to be bowled over by novels clearly written for young (and likely female) audiences. I have the pleasure of being in a writer's group with Ms. DeJesus and when a chance came along to purchase the Kindle version of First Frost on a holiday bargain, well, I had to go for it. I had some extra credits on my Amazon Christmas gift card and said to myself, "What the heck?" Having previously read the synopsis for First Frost - as well as a few blog reviews - I figured it would be kind of a girly fairy tale with a twist or two. From what I'd seen and heard, there was enough to interest me. I write in the fantasy genre and fairy tales are, at heart, fantasy; so... First and foremost, First Frost is an excellent novel. It is well written with engaging characters and a tight, well-defined plot. The pacing is perfect; at no point in the story did I say to myself, "That's bogus! Character X would never be able to pull that off," or anything of the sort. The growth of Bianca Frost, the story's main protagonist is beautifully written and despite my rather gruff, public pooh-poohing of modern, young adult fiction, I was bowled over by what a great book First Frost is.- Michael Dunne - Amazon reviewer

When Cinderella's glass slipper is stolen, Queen Felicia sends her faithful steward Terrance to the real world to retrieve his love and witch-in-training, Bianca Frost. The power of the glass slipper, when paired with its mate, and in the wrong hands, could ruin the peace of Everafter. Bianca must gather every bit of magic she has learned in the past few weeks to find the slipper and protect her new love. Glass Frost is the second book in the Frost Series by Liz DeJesus. Bianca Frost is next in line to run the Museum for Magical and Rare Artefacts, which has been run by her family for many generations. When Terrance, the grandson of Magnus (aka the Big Bad Wolf), arrives at the museum from Everafter with a message that the Queen needs her help, Bianca heeds the call. Her parents reluctantly allow Bianca to go, on the condition that her best friend, Ming, is with her at all times. On discovering that one of Cinderella’s glass slippers has been stolen, Bianca and her loyal friends set out to discover who the thief is and to stop them from stealing the other, which is housed at her family’s museum. If the two slippers are united, it will cause much devastation. The chase takes them through many fairy tale landmarks such as an enchanted forest full of fairies as well as the home of the seven dwarves, before leading them through the portal to Earth and back again to Everafter. Bianca suffers injury, loss, and great sorrow, but she is determined to do everything she can to protect those she loves in both worlds, while trying to prevent the two glass slippers from being reunited. Liz DeJesus tells the most enchanting of all magical tales, encompassing some of the greatest fairy tales and blending them with dark magic, mystery and twisted realities which Bianca never knew existed until just a few months earlier. The characters in Glass Frost are so much fun and bring back many happy childhood memories. Facing your fear of the unknown and pushing yourself that extra mile to save those you love, regardless of the dangers faced, is a strong message in this second title. I look forward to reading the third book in the Frost Series to see what happens next. I recommend Glass Frost to young and old, who enjoy the magic of fairy tales with a twist, blended with humor, adventure, suspense, real life social issues, loss and sacrifice. - Readers’s Favorite review

What if "happily ever after" isn't really the end? Ms. DeJesus has worked her magic once again by taking a classic fairytale, and making it her own. She has done more than simply rework an old folktale for a modern audience. She shows readers what happened to Snow White, Cinderella, the seven dwarves, and many other favorite characters after their stories were recorded. Did they truly live "happily ever after?" As a huge fan of fairytales, my curiosity was piqued. I dove into Glass Frost, eager to join Bianca on her latest adventure into the beautiful yet dangerous world of Everafter, a place where happy endings aren't guaranteed. I grew to care about Bianca in First Frost, so reading Glass Frost was like spending time with an old friend. I strongly recommend reading First Frost before this book in order to have a better understanding of Bianca, her family, friends, and the land of Everafter. Bianca definitely begins to realize just how strong she is in this tale. She faces some very difficult choices and I'm pleased to say that she handles them extremely well. Bianca is only seventeen, but she can't afford to simply live in the moment. She has to consider the future and what sort of witch she wants to become because magic, even good magic, comes with a price. Her maturity, strength, and desire to protect those she loves and put their needs before her own are very admirable, but what makes Bianca an even more realistic character is her fear. There is no shame in being afraid, and Bianca has the good sense to be more than a little apprehensive of what she might encounter in Everafter. She perfectly demonstrates the meaning of courage by doing what she needs to do even though she is frightened. I enjoyed watching Bianca and Terrance grow even closer in this romance. Their relationship is more than a little complicated since they literally live in two different worlds, giving the term "long distance" a whole new meaning. Bianca again faces a tough choice. Is she willing to leave everything she knows behind and join Terrance in Everafter? Bianca isn't the only character growing and changing in Glass Frost. Prince Ferdinand is back and more entertaining than ever. In First Frost, Ferdinand struck me as a slightly self-absorbed, but good humored young man always up for an adventure. In this installment of the series, Ms. DeJesus reveals some different sides of Ferdinand. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that he can be serious and thoughtful. He even puts his charismatic nature to good use in some delicate negotiations with some bad tempered fairies. I think Ferdinand has what it takes to be a great king someday. There are so many things to love about Glass Frost. The characters are compelling and unique and the land of Everafter is absolutely breathtaking. I sincerely hope Ms. DeJesus continues Bianca's saga because I'd love to visit Everafter again. Originally posted at Long and Short Reviews

But all is not cute hair and fancy shoes as a mysterious count sets his sights on Bianca at the ball. Shattered Frost is the third book in the Frost Series by Liz DeJesus. With high school finally over, Bianca Frost and her best friend, Ming Lee, step through the portal to Everafter to attend the Winter Ball. During the ball, Bianca receives many threatening stares from Count Bleu, a descendant of the notorious murderer, Captain Bluebeard. That evening, Bianca and Ming are beaten unconscious and kidnapped by the count. Both women regain consciousness in Count Bleu’s basement. The many ghosts of Captain Bluebeard’s wives appear and start chanting, hoping to save Bianca and Ming. As a large hole appears in the floor, their kidnapper enters the basement, forcing the girls to jump into the hole, transporting them to Wonderland. A whole new adventure unfolds while Bianca and Ming try to find their way home. They find themselves captured once again after the Queen of Hearts imprisons them, determined that they are executed as soon as possible. With Terrance and Prince Ferdinand furiously seeking the women that own their hearts to bring them home, the men eventually find an alternate route into Wonderland, but are running against the clock in a land where people seem to know not only who the newcomers are, but where their fates lie. Liz DeJesus has written another timeless classic, which takes place inside both of Alice in Wonderland’s fairy tales – down the rabbit hole and through the looking glass. With all of these wonderful characters being magically linked in some way, the impossible always seems to make sense. Terrance’s secret surfaces create hope for all who are facing death in a land which is famous for sending people mad; if only Bianca and Ming would stop disappearing! The added story lines, which are not in the original fairy tales, are a clever delight in this fast-paced, action packed adventure which becomes more and more mysterious with each page. I thoroughly enjoyed Bianca and Ming’s new friends and the love and determination shown by Terrance and Prince Ferdinand, who will do anything to save them. I recommend Shattered Frost to ages 12 and over who enjoy romance, paranormal, action, adventure, drama, along with their favorite fairy tales on steroids. - Readers’ Favorite review

Yet another great book in the Frost series - this time Bianca's story meshes with the tale of Bluebeard & Alice's Wonderland. Like a cross between Mercedes Lackey's Elemental Masters series and the TV show Grimm, Liz takes well-known classic children's stories & fairy tales as a base for the adventures of Bianca Frost. Bianca is a modern teen who's found out the hard way that magic & fairy tales are real and her family has been in the thick of it for centuries. As with all the books so far, the stories featuring Bianca Frost are good YA fantasy for those who prefer the damsel in distress to be "self-rescuing." Amazon reviewer

Adults Fall Asleep; Kids Take Over Reviewer: Forrest W. Schultz - Southside Reviews There have been many stories in which chaotic conditions ensue after the sudden death or vanishing of large numbers of people. But I do not recall ever reading (or hearing of) a story like Blue Cole's recently published novel in which suddenly all adults go into a coma, and the children are left to fend for themselves. Cole presents interesting, exciting, and realistic portrayals of the childrens' struggle to survive, and their struggle to discover the meaning of the comas of their parents. The intensity of the latter struggle increases dramati- cally when they learn that each one of them will also become a "Sleeper" after becoming eighteen years old! I recommend putting this book on your good-read/must-read list! Blue Cole is the latest addition to the ever growing ranks of Coweta County's writers who have had books published in the twenty-first century. And Cole pays tribute to today's Coweta County by setting his story there. He is the second Coweta author to do so, the first being Tamala Callaway with her Super Natural series.

Don't fall asleep!!! I seriously didn't sleep the night I read this book, I read all night to finish it. One morning everyone over 18 just doesn't wake up. Ever. After a frightening day, Alan realizes that his little cousin is probably all alone and has a hair-raising trip to rescue the little girl. As all the youth of the community gather to make sense of a world without adults the struggles for food and survival are made more difficult when a play for power erupts. -Amazon reviewer

All her life Harmony Phillips has felt defective. Growing up in a paranormal community where magikal abilities come from the wavelengths of color, a color blind girl is worthless, and they haven t let her forget it. When a fit of outrage unlocks the color yellow to her eyes, Harmony passes out cold with shock over her eggs and accidentally glamours her nemesis Challen Parks into a cowardly golden retriever. As other colors unfold before her eyes, so do new abilities. Love and friendship get turned upside down as Harmony struggles to have faith in people, discovering they are not always as they seem. Color Blind by Penny Miller is the story of Harmony Phillips. Born color blind into a world where color tells what your "magik" abilities are and what race you are, she is an outcast. High school and love are tough for any teenager, but add in that you are the outcast because of something you can't help and life just gets even harder. With her best friend, Tesch, and her loving parents, Sarah and Charlie, by her side, Harmony begins to conquer everything life throws at her when she starts to see color. Her dreams are coming true, she is seeing color and gaining "magik" abilities, but what price must she pay? Will Harmony be in control of her destiny or has Gaia given her one she can't fathom? Color Blind by Penny Miller is an amazing and one of a kind book. Penny Miller perfectly captures what it's like to be an outcast teen in today's world while throwing in the paranormal world and making it all believable. The characters in Color Blind are realistic, even if they are shape shifters and other creatures of lore. The descriptions of the colors and changes that Harmony goes through as she gains color vision and powers put you right there with her, even making you feel as if you were Harmony. I have never read a book so unique, realistic, and believable and I sincerely hope that there is more to Harmony's story. Five stars isn't enough for Color Blind by Penny Miller; it needs about ten! Color Blind is difficult to put down and I don't think anybody would regret reading this amazing book.- Readers’ Favorite review

REVIEW BY: Michaela, age 11 years, 8 months of 5Girls Book Reviews MAY CONTAIN SPOILER: I loved this book! It was magical, like who wouldn't want to be a far or a witch? It has some romance, but its not too bad. This book barely has any bad words. However, this book is sad. I'm not going to spoil it for you though so be sure you buy the book so you can read it! You will love it! Harmony sounds beautiful and very nice. She loves her adoptive parents very much. Tesch is Harmony's best friend and boyfriend. Tesch is a siren and, well lets just say, Harmony is a dragon. Charlie and Sarah are Harmony's adoptive parents that she loves. Charlie is a professor and Sarah has her own business. Sarah was a witch and Charlie was a were, but they both gave up their power when they adopted Harmony. They gave up their powers for love. Harmony was born colorblind, but when she started to see color it was a surprise to everyone! My favorite character is Harmony because she loves her parents and she loves Tesch. She will do anything to protect them. I recommend this book to those that love magic and fantasy worlds. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 11 to 16.

5 stars! Harmony mourns the loss of her family and it is a struggle to get her to come out of her whole. Teach has done everything he can to help her. When she finally comes up for air she is kidnapped by Lord Cre Cre. Soon she is learning to control her abilities, discovering new truths, and coming up with a way to bring paranormal out of hiding. This second book in this series really develops Harmony and Tesch's relationship and magical abilities. I was amazed by some of the secrets that are revealed and wowed by her powers. I also did not foresee the whirlwind becoming an iconic role model for the group Cosmic Rumors would bring with it. It really brought harmony out of her shell. I also loved that the author brought several characters back from book one. There were a couple things that made me sad while reading but for the sake of spoilers I will not be sharing those. I loved this book and can’t wait to see what the next one has in store. - Madison Degraffenreid , Good Reads

Blue Cole

Since childhood, homicide detective Michael Bennett has been cursed with the ability to converse with the 'immediate dead'. This ability has given him access to the most important witness at every murder scene; the victim. Nicknamed The Reaper by his colleagues, and isolated by his gift, Bennett prefers to work alone. When Sandy Cooper becomes the newest in a long string of partners assigned to Bennett, she quickly realizes there's something very different about him. When doctors begin dying in brutal fashion, the unlikely partners must overcome not only their differences, but their pasts to stop a killer out for revenge. "Immediate Dead is a fast-paced story that will have readers looking forward to the next book from Blue Cole." In Immediate Dead by Blue Cole, Sandy Cooper, a rookie female homicide detective for the Atlanta PD, has plenty of obstacles to overcome without adding the quirks of her new partner to the list. Dubbed The Reaper by the other detectives in his precinct, Michael Bennett has an aloof demeanor and a strange working style that his cohorts either find intimidating or annoying. Thrown together as partners, they quickly discover their working styles complement each other perfectly, but it doesn't take long for things to get bumpy as they attempt to stop a revenge killer focused on medical personnel. Intrigued by her partner's strange behavior at murder scenes and his uncanny 90% clearance rate on cases, Sandy puts together pieces of a puzzle that lead her to an astonishing secret that could mean the end of Michael's career. When I read a thriller, I want the book to really intrigue me from the very start, and Immediate Dead by Blue Cole did exactly that. I was captivated from beginning to end. The story reveals one critical detail at the very beginning, but the author really makes the reader keep flipping those pages for all the other important reveals. I enjoyed the dynamics between the two main characters, particularly Sandy's "under reaction" to Michael's big secret, and I would definitely love to learn much more about the enigmatic Fred (Michael's friend) in future books. I need the answer to what Sandy "experienced" near the end, so I will definitely be looking for the next book in the series. - Readers’ Favorite reviewer

I was absorbed from beginning to end and enjoyed the way the homeless people were brought into the story without them seeming like a burden to society. I also enjoyed how the author was able to make the character of Michael Bennett come across as being a normal guy, despite his supernatural ability of being able to converse with the recently departed. Absolutely loved the story and look forward to reading what happens next in the series. - Norma Budden, author of Freedom in Love series

Ghosts Help Ghost Whisperer! Forrest W. Schultz - Southside Reviews In the famous television series, the Ghost Whisperer helps the ghosts. The reverse situation occurs in Blue Cole's latest novel, where the ghost whisperer Michael Bennett is a homicide detective who, as soon as he arrives at the crime scene, talks to the ghost of the victim in order to get information to help him identify the murderer. He needs to do so quickly because the ghost only stays there for a short time, which is what is referred to in the book's title. In this story Bennett faces an especially tough challenge in attempting to identify the serial killer who is murdering Atlanta's doctors, while at the same time trying to deal with "baggage" from his past, and in attempting to get along with his new partner, a sharp attractive young woman named Sandy Cooper. The story is a good read just as a crime novel, and it is especially interesting because of the ghost whisperer feature. It is a worthy successor to his debut novel, Sleeping Sickness, published in 2014. Cole, who lives in Coweta County and belongs to the Coweta Writers Group, has joined in the book writing/publishing boom which is sweeping across the Southside and producing some of our nation's best new writers.

Combating A Strange Malevolence Forrest W. Schultz - Southside Reviews Blue Cole's Evil Upriver is comparable in certain respects to Stephen King's It. In both stories a town is being attacked by an unknown nearby underground malevolence which has been there a very long time, but only attacks periodically. Evil Upriver, though, is unlike It in that the team of townspeople which forms to combat this evil consists of adults, not kids, as in It. Joining this team in Cole's story is Adam, a songwriter on a road trip who arrived in the town a few days ago. And, finally, there is another new arrival in this town -- Ricochet -- whose complex mystery I will allow you, the reader, to discover for yourself: it is not only mysterious in itself but also with respect to the question as to why Cole included it in his story. This story, like his first two, is a good read created by a writer with a great imagination -- I recommend it as I did the first two.

Leaving Nashville and a broken relationship behind, musician, Adam heads south to regroup. He stop in small friendly Georgia town. Staying at a local boarding house, Adam agrees to fill in at the owner's bar. Her usual musician has gone missing. The mood of the townspeople begins to change from friendly to angry and aggressive. At the same time people start to go missing. Sonja the owner of both the boarding house and bar is also coping with a sudden drop in business from another bar which has popped up seemingly over night. On investigating the new bar Adam and Sonja find there is something not right at the new bar. Is it related to the disappearances and the mood change of the town? A suspenseful story which I recommend. - Good reads reviewer

"I absolutely LOVED IT! It was so thrilling and captivating. I am a huge thriller and forensic loving book advocate with a deep love for fantasy mixed with reality. This was everything of the sort and more!" Courtney Hope (Sally Spectra, B&B)

Where to begin, I finished Blood Lily a few days ago, normally I like to write a review right away but I wanted it to sink in thoroughly before I began, because there was so much that happened, it kinda leaves you with the feeling did that just happen. Blood Lily was fantastic, it literally grabs your attention from the very first chapter and does not let go. There is so very much happening, I have not read a vampire book like this in a long time, there was purpose, action, adventure, heartache, love and loss. The world and characters that Jenny Allen has brought to life are quite amazing take Lily (Lilith) for instance she is bad ass, seriously bad ass, not in the way Angelina Jolie character in Wanted was, but bad ass in that she does not even know it, she is smart, sarcastic (which I think is her best quality) does not give up even when the odds are stacked against her, she's a fighter. Then there is Chance let me just say I would have loved to have been Lily for just a bit, the attraction, no not just attraction the adoration that he has for Lily is something that most people will go without for there entire lives. Detective Cohen seems special in ways I am sure we have not even begun to realize, even if you want to drop kick him halfway through next week. Gregor, Lilys father has so many layers, I guess it would be hard not to when you have been blending into society for more then 600 years. Ashcroft is sick, twisted, he is demented is probably the nicest word I can use here. The rest of Allens characters are just as beautifully written, and I want more of the world, heck I want more of Lily and Chance, even Cohen. No that's not true I need more! --Tammy, Witching Hour Read *5 Stars*

Wow. This book just sneaked behind me, put me on my ass and kicked me for good measure. The thing is, I’m a writer. I actually flatter myself into thinking that I sort of am a good one too, you know. Well, the very first thing I have to say about Jenny’s debut novel is that – and yes, I absolutely hate her for it – it is better than mine. We all got tired of vampires half a decade ago but it’s not Dracula, Diaries or Twilight kinda novel; it’s a gripping, fascinating, let’s-order-in-so-I-don’t-have-to-stop and stay awake until 3 to finish it kind of thriller that just happen to have non-human characters. I got caught from the first sentence and it was literally impossible to stop reading until the end. In one hand, you have Lilith, forensic who knows her shit, and generally verges on the kick-ass side of the scale. No whinny heroine there! I got a tiny bit frustrated with her at some point, but just in a “don’t go in there alone!!” kinda way rather than the usual “why don’t you just die? It would make the story relatively interesting” female lead tend to inspire. Chance, Lily’s bodyguard, is a flawless character; by that I don’t mean that he’s actually perfect, far from it. He’s childish and gets cranky, sometimes, but he is one of the most realistic male character I’ve ever had the pleasure to discover. He messes up. He gets emotional. The sweetness and vulnerability remind me of any thirty years old friends of mine; they aren’t old wise, seen-it-all! They play X-box and don’t wash their hands after taking a leek. It’s good to see a real man, and a swoon-worthy one at that. So yep, he’d quite high on my imaginary crush list. In short, I absolutely loved Blood Lily and I intend to read each and every novel Jenny Allen graces us with – if that’s her first, I can’t wait to see what’s next!!--May Sage, USA Today Best-selling Author of To Claim a King

Unlike his other bastard children, Apollo and Artemis are made into gods, an event which will set the course for the rest of the story. Artemis has never forgotten the heartache that her mother suffered at the hands of her father Zeus, and as such, she wishes to lead a solitary life, away from men and love and relationships. Though she stands firm in her conviction, moments bubble up in her that are full of yearning. Apollo, who has never been seen without a smile on his face, is much more fanciful and wanting than Artemis. He wants love, and he wants it in a big way. Having loved and lost love, Apollo believes he has found it again with the beautiful nymph, Daphne. He quickly learns, however, that she has made a vow to celibacy. But that doesn’t matter to Apollo; his love for her is so profound that he asks her to be his companion, to live with him just so that he can be near her. Apollo’s lifelong wish is about to come true, but people on the fringes of his life have other plans. Reminiscent of the story of The Imitation of Life but with a dark and edgy twist, Blinding Mirror will enthrall readers from the first page to its jaw- dropping, shocking finale! Olivia Valente reinvented herself and made her poverty-stricken and abusive background a distant memory. Now she’s on top of the world; married to a wealthy man, she has the life she at one time could only dream of. But greed and lust rears its ugly head and now the life she’s built is on the verge of collapsing around her. Olivia will do whatever it takes to keep her opulent lifestyle…no matter who it hurts. “What a wonderful and great experience I have had reading "Blinding Mirror" a novel by a soon to be literary star Shelley Halima. It was like watching a soap on television, I couldn't wait to get to the next page! Continued success as you are truly a gifted and talented individual, I look forward to your future works.”- E'lyse Murray, ELYSE GROUP 7 AGENT to the STARS Shelley Halima ISBN-13: 978-0615584669 Format: 6 x 9 paperback Retail price $13.00 IG price for 1 to 9 books: $10.99 Price for 10 or more books: $7.25 Comparable titles: Queenie, Imitation of Life, Lucky

Shelley Halima's latest novel, Blinding Mirror, is three hundred and twenty one pages of sheer bliss. This book lives up to its title, because it holds up a mirror to American life. The multi ethnic and mixed raced characters are all trying to forge their place in the American landscape. This is the saga of Olivia Valente, a heroine that a reader will enjoy hating. One cannot help but admire her driving ambition to leave her abusive life and recreate a new and improved self. One of the ways Olivia does this is to bypass her true racial background. The legacy of her choices will affect every action in the book, thus impacting the lives her daughters for years to come. I think a mark of a good book is a writer’s ability to make the reader understand why the characters do what they do. Halima has definitely mastered this technique in her work. I would highly recommend Shelley’s work to any patron especially those who would like a change from the usual fare offered by many of her contemporaries. Blinding Mirror is an exceptional thriller by Shelley Halima. Halima expertly weaves a multigenerational, multi-ethnic tale of suspense and intrigue. This novel takes you on an emotional journey as you see how Olivia grows from an impoverished teen to a selfish, gold-digging socialite. Readers will see how Olivia's actions had a devastating effect on Lourdes, Sophia, and Isabella's lives. Halima does a wonderful job of exposing readers to Afro-Mexican, Spanish, Indian, Maltese, and Portuguese cultures something that's rarely found in today's fiction market. High family drama, self-hatred of one's culture, and detrimental lies makes Blinding Mirror a captivating read. This novel is a sensational start to the Mirror series. – Urban Reviews – 5 out of 5 books BLINDING MIRROR by Shelley Halima is a novel full of twists and turns, and has a main character you will love to hate. The book is very well-written and has memorable characters. Halima takes you on an emotional rollercoaster as you journey with Olivia and her family. What I liked most about the book was the unpredictability.• I never knew what was going to happen next. I also liked that fact that this book was totally different than Halima's first two. If you are in need of a good, quick read, I encourage you to pick up BLINDING MIRROR. You will be in for a treat. ~ "In her third novel, "Blinding Mirror", author Shelley Halima continues writing about race and class struggles. This time the beautiful Olivia Valente tosses aside family and racial identity• to strike out on her own to find wealth, and happiness. Halima's novels are reminiscent of those crafted by Harold Robbins, Jacqueline Susann and even Jackie Collins. We love Halima's hot mestiza characters in this page turner with a twist. Where is the mini-series?" ~

Patti L. Adams

It’s the mid-1950s in small-town Arkansas. While most children fear the imagined monster in their closet or under their bed, for five-year-old Anna Fay Kelly, her monster is quite real--her mother Flo. She witnessed her mother murder her father in a fit of rage–not in self-defense, as the jury believed when they found her not guilty of murder. Now every day, Anna and her elderly Aunt Ellie must bear the brunt of Flo’s unpredictable fury, malice, duplicity, and cruelty. Deceived by Flo’s beauty, wit and charm, no one listens to Anna’s cries for help. Flo tells them Anna is “bad” and “tells stories” and “a mother knows her own child, doesn’t she?” The abuse worsens when Flo remarries to a man whose psychopathy rivals her own. Finally, at age eleven, Anna knows what she must do to protect herself and her frail aunt from further harm. Aunt Ellie said, “Never tell”, but blood always tells… Patti L. The first words I read in Blood Relatives by Patti L. Adams were on the dedication page. It said: “To all my enemies…you know who you are. And so do I.” I knew right then that this book would be good. The story follows the life of a very intelligent little girl named Anna Fay Kelly from the ages of five to eleven. At the age of five, Anna witnesses her mother kill her father. When her mother is not convicted, Anna is stuck living with her abusive mother and her beloved elderly aunt. Just when Anna thinks things could not get any worse, her mother marries a man that is just as evil as she is. Blood Relatives is not a light read. This is a good story and it is meant for the reader to take their time reading it so they can fully understand what Anna is going through. I liked that Adams started the story off in a courtroom. This added to the seriousness of the story and was the beginning of Anna’s traumatic childhood. This is where the reader meets Anna and learns that she is not your normal 5-year-old little girl. I also liked that Adams explained Anna’s way of thinking. A child sees things and understands them differently from an adult. I absolutely hated the character of Anna’s mother, Flo. I hate it even more that she reminds me of some mothers I have met. The ending of the story was a surprise for me, but I thought it was perfect. The things that Anna endured in those six years were truly heartbreaking. This book may be fiction but the actual story has happened to many people. If you like to read drama then I highly recommend this book. An awesome story!–Readers’ Favorite review

Blood Relatives (Indie Gypsy), Patti L. Adams’ disquieting tour de force debuts a novelist whose pen is not to be denied. The powerhouse turn brilliantly depicts a heartrending saga of hideous child abuse with sure acumen — fluid, image rich, consistently compelling in its immediacy. Literally from birth, Anna innocently suffers for failing to be the apple of her mother’s eye. She is berated and brutalized by Flo, a chronic narcissist, innate sadist, and wretched excuse for a nurturing parent. Year after year the child daily endures soul-searing hell until fate delivers her by way of literally murderous retribution. Adams draws distinct characters whose lifelike behavior drives a strong, unforgettable story. There is the inclination to doubt anyone could actually be so evil as Flo. But, reminiscent of Chester Himes’ autobiographical novel The Third Generation, harking to Christina Crawford’s Mommie Dearest, Adams unflinchingly testifies to an ugly truth: mothers sometimes are monsters. Flawlessly rendered, by turns heartbreaking and heroic and beautifully written, Blood Relatives qualifies as a contemporary classic. –Dwight Hobbes - Minnesota-Spokesman Recorder

Now Josie and Jamie have a connection, will Jamie fall in love with this young girl? Inquiry minds want to know - can't wait for book 2 ~~~ August is not coming fast enough. First time reading this author's book and love her writing detailing every little thing. I'm ready for book 2!” “Josie and Camille were treated terrible simply because they were connected to Mark. This angered his father, and JUST BECAUSE HE COULD he submitted them to unusual cruelty and punishment. These facts kept me spell bound to read page after page. The reality in this book as to how slaves were treated allows the reader to actually visualize what the African nation endured as they were forced into our country under such cruel and despicable circumstances. I would recommend this book to every reader in hopes that it would open their eyes to see the reality of how this race of people was mistreated!!!” “One of the best books I have read in awhile. If you like books about the south during slavery, you will love this book. It is the first book I read by this author and hope that she has written more books.” “It has been a long time since I've rated a book 5 stars. This is an extremely well written book. There is adventure, sadness, humor and love. Read!!!!” Josie’s Prize Book 2 “I have been waiting for this sequel for some months now and I'm nearing the end of the story and don't want to let it go!! I have recently read several stories about this time period, life on a plantation and the civil war, but this story in particular tops them all for me!! The stories of Camille and Mark, Josie and Jamie, and everyone else, was amazing!! I keep telling people that they need to read because the best stories are in books, not the movies!!” “Great follow up to Josie's Prize-Book One. Josie and Jamie went through, and survived many different situations. Their love for each other brought them through each and every one of these situations. I loved it when Matthew Cooper spent five years in prison for his crimes against Josie. He was a bitter and cruel man, and definitely got what he deserved. Camille and Mark received the happiness they deserved, especially getting away from Matthew!!! Camille and Josie, as well as all former slaves were treated so inhumanly , and it's so hard to believe that the institution of slavery ever existed.” “Outstanding sequel to the first book . Wonderful story. Great characters. Keeps your attention every minute. Wish there was book 3.” “Best books, one and two I read in 2016!! And I read 5-6 books each week!” Heavenly Coffee “Because I have read and enjoyed Liz Reyes other books Josie's Prize 1&2 and also coming from the Island of Enchantment of Puerto Rico I had to get this book and I wasn't disappointed I couldn't put it down once again Great Read ... As we follow the main character from Spain, to Puerto Rico, then to America, the author transports us each place with vivid descriptions and scenery and even the smell of the flowers and the coffee in the plantation . The journey Of Maria Jose will take you back in time as we see the struggles of this young girl become a woman by fighting in what she believed in As she learns to adjust to life in a new world that is on the verge of war with her beloved country. Beautiful Story that Incorporates history Of How life was In Puerto Rico , Spain and America.” “Liz did it again with this book I really enjoyed this. Maria José the main character was a real tough woman who knew what she wanted and got it but had her share of bad luck. This is a good book to read with a cup of coffee. I look forward to Liz’s next book.” “Wonderful.......”
