Friends, It’s been a wonderful summer so far at the Indianapolis Art Center. Our classrooms, halls and grounds have been filled with the energy and joy our campers bring and we are excited for several more weeks of camp ahead. For those of you not travelling, we hope that you are able to take advantage of one of our many Staycations or the great lineup this summer for the Marie Medica Pugh Visiting Artist Series. Be sure to check out free artists lectures from Charles Lewton-Brain (metalsmith - invented the foldforming technique) and Jon Nagel (blacksmith - Forged in Fire - History Channel anyone…) later this month. Fall registration begins soon. Members, don’t forget that you will have exclusive first access and a discount available July 22 through August 4 to the classes of your choice. Registrations to the public open August 5. Please spread the word to your friends and networks. Invite a friend or family member to take a class with you, share your work and stories with others and, when you are done with it, leave this catalog at your place of business, doctor’s office or share with a friend - too many people have no idea the Art Center is here for them and we need your help to spread the word! As summer camps and classes wind down, we will be gearing up for our late-summer fundraiser ArtSparkle: Chroma on August 16. This event is likely to sell out, so if you would like to experience this incredible party do not delay in purchasing tickets. Every donation keeps this organization going and we need your help. We ask that you consider a fully tax-deductible donation to the Art Center - as you know no amount is too small. Call or visit our website to make a donation today. Are you a business owner or an employee of a business that supports organizations like ours? We are actively seeking sponsorships for our nationally recognized programs and events. Please let us know if you are interested in learning more about getting your company in front of our audience. Looking ahead, mark your calendars for an open-house reception for our Fall Exhibition Series on Thursday, September 19. We are excited to host this party in conjunction with the September Broad Ripple Art Walk - so plan on making a night of it and exploring the village too. This fall we launch our first ArtsPark Fall Festival in conjunction with the opening reception of our Annual Faculty Exhibition on Saturday, October 19. We will have a variety of family-friendly activities, a cider-press, music, food and drinks going all day to celebrate the work of our amazing teaching artists. Stay tuned for more information on our Winter Art Sale to be announced soon. Thank you for all that you do for the Indianapolis Art Center, we are fortunate to have this incredible resource in our community and could not do this without you. We are excited to see you here soon. Warm Regards,

Patrick Flaherty President & Executive Director 3

Scholarships Expand to New Levels “The scholarship program at the Art Center has changed my life. I’ve made friends and found a passion in my ‘old age.’ Art!!” Thanks to the amazing support of donors, the Art Center’s scholarship acceptance rate this summer shot

up from 75% to 100% of qualified applicants. More than 20 youth and adult scholarships were directly supported from funds donated during the spring’s Access Art appeal.

WHAT IS ACCESS ART? Access Art is the Indianapolis Art Center’s tuition assistance program, which supports all members of our community on their creative journey. Any youth or adult can apply, and the program takes into account financial, medical, and personal challenges that would make it difficult to pay the cost of tuition.

This “has reignited my passion for the arts,” says one student. Like any students discovering more about themselves through a creative process, scholarship recipients find a safe, healing place to learn among a supportive community of teachers and peers.

“I was able to create new work and get valuable feedback from my instructor and fellow classmate.” Another says,

”Art is a healing method for me and your program made it possible for me to be in an artistic, enjoyable, and dynamic inclusive atmosphere.” 24

SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE NOT ONLY FOR ADULT STUDENTS BUT FOR FAMILIES AS WELL. One parent wrote,

“We are so thankful for the scholarships that have been awarded to our children. They have loved all of the classes, and it’s been wonderful to see their desire to create continue after classes end.” Special Programs Manager, Alyson Walbridge, who coordinates the Access Art program, says that “seeing the response to our classroom appeal this spring was astounding. I cannot thank you all enough for your contributions! With your help, WE HAVE NOT HAD TO DENY A SINGLE STUDENT THIS SUMMER DUE TO LACK OF FUNDS. The Indianapolis Art Center has an incredibly strong community of students, teaching artists, and staff that support art for all.”

The Art Center is a unique place. There are no other living community creative spaces with its breadth and depth in the state of Indiana. There are very few anywhere in the country. Please invest in the future of this creative community. There are many ways to support the Art Center. Please visit our website to learn how you can donate today!

The Indianapolis Art Center’s Teen Art Council (TAC) is a free program for motivated, energetic, high-schoolage youth who want to participate in visual art outside of the classroom and engage in the larger arts community in Indianapolis. Members of the Teen Art Council work with peers, professional artists and Indianapolis Art Center staff to develop and deliver art projects and programs that engage teen audiences. TAC projects may include planning and executing teen-centric events at the Art Center or creating, curating and installing art exhibits.
