November Rush Where did the time go? I feel like just last week I was visiting splash pads with my kids, and then I blinked. Suddenly, we’re barreling into the month of November, the leaves have changed and dropped, and now I’m thinking about Thanksgiving and — what the heck — the holidays after that. Giftgiving season will be upon us before we know it! As we all continue to deal with this ongoing pandemic, one of the ways you can make a big difference in your community this season is by being intentional with your gifts. Giving gifts of experience — instead of more “stuff” — is a great way to support your community and help the places and spaces that you love. And not only that, but experiential gifts — such as museum memberships and class passes — make your gift-giving go farther by providing a fun experience to the gift-getter that will last a long time.
In “Give the Gift of Experiences” on page 17, we have a great list of ways to give gifts of experience this year. But our list is just the tip of the iceberg. Think about your favorite places around Indy, and find ways to incorporate them into your shopping list this season. My kids’ relatives have been getting very creative with their gifts recently. Since we can’t really visit all of our usual spots around town, they’ve taken it upon themselves to bring the fun to us, in the form of virtual classes, craft boxes from local art centers and more. We’ve loved getting a little bit of our favorite places delivered right to our home!

HIDDEN GEMS
WORDS BY STEFFY MCCOURT
Bird watching at Cool Creek Park My middle child, George, and I started our morning early one Saturday at Cool Creek Park and Nature Center with an eclectic group of birders. Amanda Smith, superintendent of natural resources and education at Hamilton County Parks and Recreation, shared with us that initially, it was the birders — not the birds — that kept bringing her back. One of the women, Patty, in our group that morning explained that she began birding when she was semi-retired. “I finally had the time to sit on my porch and look around,” she said. She smiled at George and said, “It’s so wonderful that you are starting now!”
Most people become birders when they happen upon what is called a “spark bird.” Patty’s spark bird was a hummingbird that she observed on her patio. She said she had never seen one in the real world before, and she was amazed.
Another person in our group, Michael, shared that his spark bird was a Baltimore Oriole. He said, “I never knew that there were these amazing creatures around us all of the time.” Smith took our group on a hike through the major trails and into the lesser known side trails. Over the course of an hour we spent our time quietly looking up, listening, whispering and pointing when we found something. To someone who has never been birding before, I would describe it to be like fishing, but for birds that you aren’t going to catch. There is that same thrill of reeling a big one in, when you spot a rare bird. In a similar way, it requires patience. Cool Creek Park and Nature Center offers multiple free birding hikes every month, led by naturalists. Visit their website to learn more.

Imagine Your Dream Home, Miniature Style The Children's Museum of Indianapolis is helping families share a new kind of story time with little ones through a re-imagined Mini Masterpieces exhibit. These tiny house recreations are more than dollhouses — they are intricate works of art that inspire imaginations of all ages. Peer through a window of time to see elaborate, hand-crafted pieces of furniture from long ago. Check out tiny books, lighting and other details made by artists and craftsmen who create the miniatures. Manipulate a large magnifying glass to get an up-close look at tiny characters. You will discover one of the rooms hides a secret, as a projection-style illusion makes the scene come to life with people magically moving around the room.
1925) to compare to an actual, life-sized object from the museum’s collection.
The historical and physical accuracies help families become storytellers together, by imagining what it would be like to live in these rooms with all the tiny treasures. By visiting Chateau Beaumont (a gift from the Fortune Family Foundation), you’ll see how one family prepared for their daughter’s wedding day. By using prompts like “Once upon a time…,” you’ll see how elements in the room spur story ideas. Kids and adults can take turns until they have created a complete story. Grandparents also might enjoy joining in the fun by adding a different perspective.
Explaining how craftsmen create these pieces can help children understand math and engineering concepts by talking about the scale of the lamps and books you saw in the exhibit. There are even tiny replicas of artifacts displayed in the miniature Carriage House of the Propylaeum (the original Children’s Museum circa
Kids and their grownups can take on the role of craftsmen and design their own miniature room with a touch-screen interactive and send it home via e-mail. Imagine their delight when they add a photo of themselves that pops up as a miniature portrait on the wall of one of the rooms.
Mini Masterpieces is now open at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. The whole family will enjoy experiencing these masterpieces through the eyes of a child. You never know how far their imagination can take them… and you.

PARENTING
WORDS BY KATE FISCH LCSW, FOUNDER AND PSYCHOTHERAPIST, NORTHSIDE MENTAL HEALTH
How to Cope with Our Own Anxiety Three strategies that parents can implement today. Anyone else feel anxious? Given the current state of our reality, I am assuming that question would be met with a resounding “YES.” So, what is anxiety anyway? Anxiety can be defined as a feeling of nervousness, worry or unease, typically about a future event or a situation with an uncertain outcome. Although uncomfortable, the purpose of anxiety is important and can often be helpful. Our experience of anxiety is natural and exists to alert us about possible future threats that might require a heightened state of vigilance. Anxiety can also act as a motivator, helping us to get out of bed in the morning or complete a task that’s been hanging over our head. But, when we notice anxiety persisting throughout our day, even when the possibility of threat has passed, it might be time for an emotional tune-up. First, let’s review what anxiety feels like for most people. In addition to a sense of unease, there are also tell-tale physical symptoms that can alert us that we might be feeling anxious. For example, we might have an increase heart rate, sweaty palms, shortness of breath or even indigestion. One client of mine described her anxiety as feeling like her stomach was “a bowl of slithering, oiled eels.” Eek! And, also quite an accurate description, if you ask me. Next, here are a few ideas on how to cope with feelings of anxiety. I selected these specific strategies
because not only are they quick and effective, they are easy for parents to teach to their kiddos. Name It to Tame It: Identify and acknowledge the presence of your anxiety. Once identified, we are better able to explore the source of our anxiety and determine if the perceived threat is real. Remember, our feelings are not always accurate representations of our current reality. Observation vs. Participation: We so often get carried away by emotions, especially ones that feel intense or overwhelming. When this happens, it’s easy to lose sight of what is really going on. Think of it this way: Your intense anxiety might feel like a terrible storm on the surface of the sea. Instead of thrashing around up there trying to stay afloat, sink down underneath where the water is calm and just observe all the activity at the surface of the water. Be Your Own Coach: When feelings of anxiety are high, you can coach yourself through with encouraging statements, or reminders that intense emotions won’t last forever. It’s important as parents that we stay in touch with our emotional well-being and health. Our children thrive in environments where they feel secure and safe. And, because they are like little emotional sponges, if we seem to be feeling anxious, our kids will feel it, too.

Christmas Nights of Lights Makes the Season Bright A safe way for families to celebrate this holiday season.
Who couldn’t use a little holiday cheer right about now? Fortunately, there is a great way to feel merry while also social distancing, and you’ll find it at the Indiana State Fairgrounds with Christmas Nights of Lights, the biggest light show ever built in Indianapolis. Prepare to be dazzled as you drive through an over 2.5mile route that’s full of colorful light displays set to holiday music, a 300-foot tunnel, 240-foot wall of lights and more merriment, all from the comfort of your own vehicle.

INDYSCHILD.COM I November 2020
Whether you’re visiting Christmas Nights of Lights with your kids or making it a holiday date night, here are some pro tips to help make your experience extra merry.
Know When to Go To avoid the crowds, plan your visit on a weekday. Mondays and Wednesdays are especially great for experiencing shorter wait times. If the weekend is more your thing, make a night of it and plan to have dinner first, and then stop by around 9 pm when the crowds will have slowed. Christmas Nights of Lights is open until 10 pm daily. It is also open rain, shine or snow, so no matter the weather, the show will go on!
Bring the Whole Fam Christmas Nights of Lights is the perfect holiday activity for the entire family because there is no walking, and you never need to get out of your car. Plus, since you never leave the car, you’re automatically social distancing! It’s a win-win for everyone. Tickets are $7 per person, and children under 3 years of age are free. Or if you’re bringing a big group in one vehicle, opt for the carload special for $30 for up to 7 people. Just be aware that there is a vehicle height restriction of 11 feet.
Buy Your Tickets Online or at the Gate Whether you want to plan ahead and purchase your tickets online, or you’d rather be spontaneous and wait until you’re already at the fairgrounds, the choice is yours! Major credit cards and cash is accepted in person. And on the day of the experience, be sure to use the entrance at Gate 12 on 42nd Street.
Plan for Potty Stops and Grumbly Tummies in Advance One thing that you WILL want to plan ahead for is a restroom visit before you visit Christmas Nights of Lights. The 2.5-mile scene will take approximately 25 to 30 minutes to experience, and there are no pit stops along the way. Portable toilets are located at the entrance to the show, so visitors with young kids will want to make sure to visit those before getting in line. Be sure to also pack some hand sanitizer!
It’s also a smart idea to pack some snacks and drinks for the ride. Nothing puts a damper in the holiday spirit like a “hangry” attitude!
Turn On Your Radio, Turn Off Your Headlights To really immerse your yourself in the magic, set your radio dial to Christmas Nights of Lights’ radio station. They will let you know the station numbers at check-in. The station plays new and classic Christmas tunes, and all of the light displays are synchronized to the music.
Check out the Christmas Nights of Lights Facebook page (facebook. com/christmasnightsof lightsindianapolis) to stay up-to-date with special events that may happen throughout the season.
And to preserve the magic for everyone else, turn off your headlights at check-in and keep them off throughout your visit. Trust us: You — and everyone else — will be able to see the light show much better this way!
Put Your Observational Skills to Work Make a game of your visit and try to find the eight elves that are hiding throughout Christmas Nights of Lights. Look carefully — those elves can be sneaky!
Stay Informed
Christmas Nights of Lights is located at the Indiana State Fairgrounds from November 13-January 3, 2021, from dusk until 10 pm, with extended hours on weekends. For more information, visit christmasnightsof lights.com.

Know Before You Go to the Game The Indianapolis Colts have implemented a series of health and sanitization procedures for the safety of fans, players and staff. This season might look different from football seasons past, but as always, the Indianapolis Colts want to protect the health and safety of their fans while also ensuring maximum fun. Here’s a rundown of the precautions and procedures in place at Lucas Oil Stadium to protect your health when you attend Indianapolis Colts home games. Interested in attending a game? Visit Colts.com/ tickets to secure your seats for an upcoming game!
Be Fit to Play All fans and gameday staff will participate in a COVID-19 screening, including a temperature check and questionnaire prior to entering Lucas Oil Stadium. If you are feeling sick, stay home!
Less Contact Ticketing is fully mobile to create a more secure and safer entry for fans. Colts games will also be cashless for the 2020 season, and fans can pay by major credit card, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Cash-to-card machines will be available for fans who need to exchange their cash for prepaid debit cards. These machines are located outside sections 116 and 543.
“The entire experience was amazing because of everything the Colts organization did to keep us safe, and how unobtrusive the safety measure all felt,” says Colts season ticket member Justin Mescher, who brought his 5-year-old son, Trent, to a recent game. “Safe family, a once-in-a-lifetime experience with my son, and a Colts win ... you can't get much better than that!”
Two Yards Can Change the Game Fans are required to practice physical distancing — standing/ sitting at least 6 feet away from other people not in their party — while inside and outside the stadium. Fortunately, Lucas Oil Stadium has multiple entries and exits at four separate gates and more than 1 million square feet of club, concourse and corridor space, so fans will have ample space to practice distancing. Stadium capacity has been reduced to meet local, NFL and CDC guidelines, so stadium seating will be spaced farther apart. As such, seating will be grouped in “pods” to maintain distance between groups who are not known to one another.
Protecting the Team Starts with You Face coverings are required at all times for fans over the age of 2, except when actively eating or drinking. Fans are also encouraged to wash and sanitize their hands regularly.

t’s the start of gift-giving season! This year, make your gifts to loved ones go farther — and support your community — by giving the gift of experience. From lessons to museum memberships to educational opportunities, we’ve got a roundup of ideas for gifting Indy experiences that everyone will love.
R E S TAU R A N T S Looking for a gift for your significant other? St. Elmo Steak House is the perfect place for an extra-special date night experience. For a more casual spot perfect for families and cocktail enthusiasts alike, grab a gift certificate (or two!) to Baby’s. Prefer sweet treats? Give the gift of ice cream with a gift card to BRICS. Waffle cones, shakes, sundaes and more— who says ice cream has to just be a summer treat? And Indy’s donut game is strong: gift cards to Long’s Bakery, Rise’n Roll Bakery or General American Donut Company would make anyone happy.
MUSEUM MEMBERSHIPS Gifting a museum membership is a gift that truly pays dividends, especially when it comes to The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. With five floors of fun, 12 sports experiences, a Dinosphere, space station and jam-packed calendar of rotating exhibits, a family membership to The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is a gift everyone will enjoy. (Insider tip: The Children’s Museum also has a fantastic gift shop!)
PERFORMING ARTS Art lovers of all ages can enjoy a wide range of classes at the Indianapolis Art Center. With classes in mediums ranging from paint to clay to digital animation, the gift of art classes is the perfect way to get those creative juices flowing. Tiny dancers can get their kicks at Indiana Ballet Conservatory, a pre-professional ballet school in Carmel. They offer classes for ages 3 through adult, including their unique gentlemen’s program. Musicians can take their craft to new levels with lessons from Meridian Music. Currently, private lessons are available for most instruments, including voice, and can be taken online or in their studio.
In addition to housing the world’s largest children’s museum, Indianapolis is also home to several top-notch attractions. Conner Prairie offers families a portal into history like never before. With a membership, you’ll have access to a year of wonder and adventure at this local gem.
And for families, a drive-in concert compliments of Actors Theatre of Indiana will get everyone in the holiday spirit. On November 27 from 7-9 p.m., enjoy holiday music with some special guests, including Santa. Purchase tickets at atistage.org.
And the eponymous Indiana State Museum goes well beyond the history of the Hoosier state. Start your journey at Birth of the Earth, dive into the Ancient Seas that once covered the Midwest, explore life in the Ice Age and learn about Indiana’s founding people. An IMAX theater rounds out the fun, making this museum a must on dreary winter days.
FITNESS Do you know a child with energy to burn? Gymnastics and ninja classes are for children of all ages — walking to teenager — and are wonderful ways for children to strengthen their bodies, minds, self-confidence and to just have fun! With six Indianapolis-area locations, Wright’s Gymnastics and NinjaZone makes it easy to find a class near you that fits your busy schedule.
E D U C AT I O N A L O P P O R T U N I T I E S As parents, we want to help our children be the best version of themselves, and the Terrateer Club is here to help. This monthly on-demand program helps children build better relationships, improve confidence and self-acceptance, manage stress, explore the beauty of nature, develop important aspects of brain functioning, demonstrate kindness, practice giving back and cultivate an open-minded world view. This is a great gift for families with children ages 4 to 8, and the perfect gifting idea for grandparents.
Class 101 offers the gift of college planning made simple. This service helps students in 8th through 12th grade find the best schools, at the best price, for their best future. Their dedicated counselors help high school students identify their college goals, as well as support them in the steps necessary to achieve those goals in the most cost-effective manner possible.

For the something the entire family will enjoy, give the gift of a fitness membership. At the Monon Community Center, their state-of-the-art facility is more than just a gym: it is an all-inclusive family experience. Whether you're looking for an indoor track, yoga, basketball courts, cardio equipment, lap swimming, weight lifting or cycling, there is something for everyone. And little ones up to age 12 can enjoy all that the KidZone has to offer, including an indoor playground, creative arts area, computers for interactive learning and a reading nook.
With 12 locations throughout Indy, a membership to the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis offers easy access for the entire family. With classes, programs and activities for all ages, there is something for everyone. And parents can enjoy a worry-free workout knowing their little ones are being cared for by the largest provider of child care in the country. This year, skip the “things” that will quickly be forgotten, and instead give a gift that will last all year long.

T H E A D O P T I O N O P T I O N Are you ready to welcome a child into your family through adoption or foster care? WORDS BY JENNIFER THOMPSON
T
here are many ways a family can grow, and two of those ways are through adoption or foster care. With adoption, the goal is for the child to find a permanent home. With foster care, “[the goal is to] offer a child a safe, family environment while their biological parent(s) do what is needed to achieve family reunification,” says Andra Martinez, vice president of communications and development for Children’s Bureau in Indianapolis. The thought of bringing a child into your home, whether through adoption or foster care, can be exhilarating, and can also raise a number of questions. You may be wondering if you are ready to welcome a child into your family through adoption, or if foster care may be a better option for you.
What to Consider When Thinking About Adopting “Adoption is another road to parenthood,” says Meg Sterchi, one of the founders and executive director of Adoptions of Indiana. “It's not second best, or the last resort. Adoption isn't always the right option when you're struggling with infertility. Being able to separate being pregnant from being a parent can help. It's important to allow yourself to grieve what might have been, so you can open your heart to what can be.” When thinking about adoption, Sterchi suggests considering how important it will be to understand and respect your child's birth history and birth family, and have an open heart toward your child's birth family. Sterchi says that when thinking about adopting with a partner, you and your partner will both want to move forward with adoption or fostering only when you’re both ready. “If one person isn't ready, you shouldn't proceed,” she says. “Give them the time they need to decide if it is right for them, too.”
The Steps to Adoption Take time to consider the right type of adoption for your family, and do your homework. Most agencies offer free consultations to help

you understand their programs and process. It will become clear to you which program best fits your family. Also, you will want to be sure to look for an agency that provides strong services to expectant parents and birth parents long-term, and who believes strongly in adoption education and support for adoptive families.
The Foster Factor The foster licensing process can take a long time and require a decent amount of paperwork, according to Kris, a foster mom and blogger for Children’s Bureau, who breaks down the process of getting a foster care license in her blog, Kris’ Corner: childrensbureau.org/ news/kris-corner-it-takes-so-long-to-get-licensed. However, the process is worth it, as foster families are greatly needed. “Foster parents are needed in Indiana,” Sterchi says. “Reach out and learn more about the foster programs in your community. It's important to have a strong relationship with your agency so you know you'll receive the training and support you will need ongoing.” Sterchi recommends talking with other foster parents, and joining a foster parent support organization. Having these resources will help you as you navigate foster parenting. Adoption and foster care can be a wonderful opportunity for you and your family to grow. There are many resources, and support systems, available for parents who would like to learn more about this option for their expanding family.

Be a Champion for Children This Holiday Season "Every child deserves a champion; an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best they can possibly be."
That powerful statement from Rita Pierson, an educator from Texas, encompasses The Villages of Indiana’s mission to champion every child’s right to a safe, permanent, and nurturing home. The Villages is Indiana’s largest child and family services agency serving 11,000 children and families across Indiana ever year.
The non-profit organization works closely with the Indiana Department of Child Services to license foster families and place children in loving homes while providing support every step of the way. “Our team knows becoming a foster parent and taking the next step to adopt a child is a big decision and responsibility,” says President and CEO Sharon Pierce. “It’s why we are dedicated to be a partner to each family every step of the way.”

Youth Services. “Our team knows not every family can be a foster or adoptive family. Yet there are so many ways to give back to support The Villages children and youth during the upcoming holiday season,” says Pierce. The Villages Spirit of Giving campaign continues through Dec. 31. The community is invited to sponsor a child’s toy wish, host a virtual toy drive or make a donation. For details and information how to support The Villages visit villageskids.org/ HolidayGiving.

Her new, adoptive parents (previously her foster parents) are giving Brynnley all the love and support that a child could ever wish.
Sharvonne assumed guardianship for her then 10-year-old brother Joseph when she was 23 years old. As guardian, Sharvonne juggled studies, work and caring for Joseph. She joined The Villages Kinship Care Program, which she calls a lifesaver. “I felt like I wasn’t alone in this journey. To meet once a month with people going through similar things made a big difference.”

Sometimes, though, life gets in the way of those types of meetings, too. Schedules fill up. Emergencies happen. That’s why the team at Adult & Child Foster Care is offering virtual informational meetings via Zoom that fit your schedule. You pick the day and time, and they’ll meet you online.
How the virtual meetings work If you’re interested in learning more about becoming a foster parent, the foster care team offers informational meetings. But they don’t happen sporadically. They happen whenever you want them to happen, and the 1-on-1 environment allows prospective parents to ask more personal questions that might not be comfortable in a group setting. Trainings have historically been set up one time monthly, but this allows the foster care team to do an informational meeting for a shorter
time commitment. Then, prospective foster parents can determine if they are ready to take the next step to begin the training process. “It allows me to individualize training when necessary,” said Lynn Farmer, Community Outreach Development Specialist. “For example, we still do pre-service trainings on Saturdays even virtually. However, occasionally Saturday doesn’t work around work schedules. Virtual training allows me to meet the prospective parent on their timeline.” The 30-minute informational sessions cover the basic requirements to become a foster parent, the required training, the placement process and more. Prospective parents can ask questions at the end of the meetings. Those advantages complement the convenience that virtual meetings provide.
How you can register for a virtual meeting Would you like to schedule your own 1-on-1 virtual meeting to learn more about becoming a foster parent? Call 317-893-0207 or email Lynn Farmer. Once you’ve settled on a meeting date and time, the foster care team will send you a link via email to join the meeting.

Sycamore School: A Passion for Gifted Education Sycamore School is Indiana’s only private, independent school for gifted students in Preschool through 8th grade. One of very few gifted schools in the country, Sycamore’s focus is on meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of gifted learners, in and out of the classroom, while having students be known and loved. Sycamore begins with a program for three-year-olds and continues through Middle School. Students ‒ and their parents ‒ find a peer group of kids who think and learn like them, a curriculum designed for gifted students, and teachers who understand and respect them and who are trained to teach gifted kids. Experiential, hands-on, differentiated learning is the norm at Sycamore. Students benefit from many speakers and field trips that bring learning to life. In fact, a student who is at Sycamore from Preschool through 8th grade will experience more than 90 speakers and 80 field trips!
The school’s passion for educating gifted children extends beyond the classroom to art, music, theatre, athletics, academic competitions, and more. Sycamore students often win local, state, and national awards and are in an environment where they feel accepted and where their achievements are celebrated. Character development is emphasized, as Sycamore’s four core values ‒ respect, moral courage, empathy, and relationships ‒ are taught, practiced, and exemplified by students in all grades. Sycamore invites you to experience the school’s positive atmosphere and energy for yourself. You can learn about gifted education, take a virtual tour, explore academics, understand the enrollment process, and more at sycamoreschool.org. You can also attend a Wednesdays with Sycamore event and/or schedule a personal tour by contacting the Enrollment Management Office at 317-2022544. Sycamore is still accepting applications for many grades for this school year while also accepting applications for 2021-2022! Gifted kids are Sycamore's mission and passion. Come see for yourself!

SPECIAL NEEDS
WORDS BY JENNIFER THOMPSON
The Internal Struggle is Real How parents can help their children with special needs manage — and even embrace — their anxiety. How can I tell the difference between a typical amount of anxiety versus an actual disorder?
Anyone who has struggled with anxiety knows it’s a struggle, and this is for both children and adults alike. During this unpredictable time, anxiety in children is on the rise. With one in eight children diagnosed as having an anxiety disorder, it’s important for parents to know what to look for, as well as ways to help their children manage, and even embrace, their anxiety.
Colleenia Korapatti, licensed mental health counselor and the founder of The Anxiety Relief Center in Fishers, offers advice for parents who might be wondering if their child is struggling with anxiety, and what they can do to help.
How can I tell if my child is struggling with anxiety? The first signs of anxiety in children are not always obvious. In such unsteady times, it’s common to write things off by telling yourself, “All kids are stressed.” Anxiety may require treatment if your child is demonstrating an impairment in one of the following life areas: sleep, school, spiritual life, recreation or family life.

INDYSCHILD.COM I November 2020
How do I help my child manage their anxiety?
How can I help normalize the behavior?
Modeling is the most important way to help your child manage their anxiety. As parents, we can verbalize advice, yet our children see what we do by the way of nonverbal behaviors. Ask yourself, “Is my own presentation anxious?” If you do not struggle with anxiety yourself, modeling coping with worrisome thoughts will not be difficult. If you recognize you are feeling overly anxious yourself, it may be time to modify some of the things your child sees or hears. Make it a priority to incorporate relaxation and coping skills into the family routine, such as meditation, physical activity, art or spiritual practices.
Without professional guidance, parents must remain cautious about normalizing anxious behaviors in case a diagnosable condition is present. Over a period of time, an anxiety disorder can impact our physical health if it is not treated properly. If your child is not showing impairments in their day-to-day functioning, validation needs to be a key component of family discussions. Listening, paraphrasing and summarizing the information your child complains of will reduce worried feelings. Remain mindful of sharing your own stressors with your child. Attempts to solve problems for your child can have negative consequences, as well. Focusing your energy on presence with your child will help reduce worry.
2020 seems to have brought about a plethora of emotions for everyone because our life has changed dramatically. Emotional ups and downs may come with the territory. However, excessive worry, panic attacks and physical complaints that last more than two weeks may be dealt with by consulting with your child’s school counselor, licensed therapist or a medical professional. Objective guidance will help you feel confident that your parenting decisions are healthy for your child and your family.
It’s important for parents, and children, to know they aren’t alone in their struggles with anxiety, and that there are many resources available for families. If you feel your child is struggling, don’t hesitate to reach out for help. It may be life changing: not only for your child, but also for your family as a whole.
