KAR Auction Services part of Indianapolis economy, community KAR Auction Services, Inc. (NYSE: KAR) may be one of the best-kept secrets in Indiana. Headquartered in Carmel, Ind., KAR employs more than 1,000 employees in the Indianapolis region, and more than 12,000 across North America. So what is KAR Auction Services? Simply put, KAR operates used-vehicle auction services. It is the parent company for a group of businesses that provide technology and logistics for the usedvehicle industry. KAR operates in the business-to-business space, working directly with used-vehicle sellers across North America and used-vehicle buyers worldwide.

These professionals remain the key to KAR’s ongoing success. KAR recognizes the difference that a single individual can make for the company and its customers alike, and makes smart staffing decisions as a result.

Community calling

One of the core pillars of the KAR organization is giving back—KAR believes in supporting the communities in which its employees live and work. KAR was recently recognized with the United Way of Central Indiana “Company That Cares” award for the consistent contributions the organization makes as a result of donations and fundraising events. In addition, KAR employees collected 6,800 food items and $1,000 for Midwest Food Bank during the company’s annual Battle of the Floors competition. Most recently, KAR put the Local leader pedal to the pavement to support the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de KAR takes its responsibilities as Cure event in Indianapolis with 16 riders a positive and productive corporate tackling the bike race. state on the Indianapolis Business Journal “Largest Indiana Public Companies” list. It is also a FORTUNE® 1000 company, a ranking of the 1,000 top companies in the United States based on revenue. KAR has three core business units: ADESA, Insurance Auto Auctions (IAA) and Automotive Finance Corporation (AFC). ADESA is a wholesale, used-vehicle auction operation with 65 locations and a complete online auction platform. It works mainly with major vehicle manufacturers, car dealers, banks, and finance, fleet, lease and rental companies. IAA is in the salvage side of the auction business,

dealing with damaged cars being sold for recycling, dismantling or repair. It has a hybrid auction model with 166 locations and an online platform, and works with insurance companies, fleet, lease and rental companies. And, AFC, with 107 branches, provides inventory financing and numerous businesses services to the company’s auction customers. Other companies in the KAR group provide a wide range of ancillary services, such as repossessions and repairs, transportation, warranty and inventory services. KAR’s ability to deliver all of these different services differentiates it from other businesses in the used-vehicle auction industry. It also provides KAR with natural offsets as industry conditions fluctuate. And, along with the corporate headquarters in Carmel, Ind., there is an AFC location in Plainfield, Ind., an ADESA auction in Plainfield, Ind., and an IAA salvage auction in downtown Indianapolis. So while KAR is a national company, it has a strong local presence. Employer. Corporate citizen. Innovator. Local leader. KAR Auction Services is a strong and dedicated part of the Indianapolis economy—and community.

Featured Artist

The Carmel Artomobilia is designed to celebrate automotive art and design, and there’s no better way to do celebrate this than to highlight nationally recognized, as well as upand-coming, artists and their work. The Artomobilia commissioned Tom Havlasek to design a distinct set of paintings that highlights both the Featured Marque for 2014 and the landmark “arches” within Carmel Arts & Design District. In his unique form, Tom perfectly captures the essence and beauty of the 1967 Ford Mustang specialty car, the Shelby GT500.

Tom Havlasek Art

Born in Brno, Czech Republic, Tom has been passionate about motor sports from an early age. As a child, he grew-up near the Brno Circuit, where he and his father spent nearly every weekend together at the track enjoying the atmosphere of both the race course and the races. Twenty-five years later, Tom still loves it. See more of Tom’s work at: www.facebook.com/ tomhavlasekart
