Helping Hoosiers Navigate Medicare and Fight Fraud
Did You Know?
35% of older people will fall victim to financial fraud in their lifetime.
Join the Fight Against Fraud! The Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) is looking for more volunteers to join their effort to fight fraud. SMP volunteers use their time and experience to help seniors protect their identity, read their Medicare Summary Notices and avoid getting taken by scammers. Become an SMP volunteer today by calling 317.205.9201.
The Open Enrollment Period for Medicare recipients has begun and Indiana’s Senior Medicare Program (SMP) knows all too well that scam artists prey heavily on seniors during this time. SMP’s purpose is to educate older adults receiving Medicare and Medicaid benefits to prevent, detect and report health care fraud. Knowing the common scams targeting seniors is a great step toward protecting yourself – and your family.
Tips to stop Medicare fraud: 1. Medicare does not call you unless you have called them about a specific issue. 2. Medicare does not endorse any specific Medicare Advantage plan, product, or service. 3. Medicare Advantage plans may not solicit Medicare beneficiaries door-to-door or send them unsolicited e-mail. 4. Medicare Advantage plans cannot offer cash payments as an incentive to enroll.

5. Medicare Advantage Plans cannot enroll people by phone unless the person calls them. Call 317.205.9201 x 207 or your local Area Agency on Aging at 800.986.3505 to report suspected fraud. The non-profit SMP program is supported and funded by the U.S. Administration on Aging
