WELCOME TO INFERNO METAL FESTIVAL 2016! nferno Metal Festival is now in our 16th year as a metal festival. This makes Inferno the longest running metal festival in Norway … by far. There has been so many metal festivals in Norway over the years, and so many good ones. Just last year I counted 19 metal festivals here in Norway. And I am sure I also left out some of them. That is not bad for a small country such as Norway, with only 5 million people living here. Sweden is almost twice the size in population. And a town like Jakarta has twice the size of Norway’s population – but I don't think they have as many metal festivals as Norway.

I

n Norway metal lives and metal rules. Well, that might be an exaggeration. But we have worked hard for a well-earned respect within the music scene in Norway. Even the Town Hall bells in Oslo play Motörhead every day as a tribute to Lemmy Kilmister. Just be sure to walk by the Town Hall at 18.00 to hear it for yourself. The metal scene got respect and in our own way – without selling out. Inferno is different from most other festivals as we focus on the extreme sub-genres of metal. This means mostly black metal, death metal, thrash metal and doom metal. Just look at our line-up this year – it is brutal as hell! Mayhem, Marduk, Nile, Suffocation, Gorguts, Nifelheim, The 3rd Attempt, Blood Red Throne and Mysticum. Not a line-up for those who gets easily scared, I tell you. This will be a festival for you people who like your music without any boundaries. And we will give it to you!

I

e do this festival with great pride, for this is for us a very personal festival. We are a small group of people that work very hard to get it done. And we can't wait to share our festival with all the metal fans from all over the world, with all the artists, the journalists, the photographers and everyone else that takes part in our festival – all the friends of Inferno Metal Festival. The feedback from last year was overwhelming and it makes it all worth it. So see you at Easter in Oslo, Norway, for the 16th edition of Inferno Metal Festival! It will be a blast!

WEDNESDAY

MARCH 23. – CLUB NIGHT

BENEATH (IS)

VULKAN ARENA

EXODUS (US) If you are a thrash metal fan – then Exodus needs no introduction. Exodus is one of the earliest band from the Bay Area thrash metal scene, starting up already in 1979. One of the co-founders was the well-known guitarist Kirk Hammett that joined Metallica after a couple of demo tapes. Riff-master Gary Holt is the band’s only long time member that has been playing on every record that Exodus has released. Today he also plays in the mighty Slayer. At Exodus' prime in the early 80s, the band was known as "Kings of the Bay Area". Today they are back in their good old shape as vocalist Steve "Zetro" Souza has returned to their line up. The man was the singer on classic records like "Pleasures of the Flesh" and "Fabulous Disaster". In 2014 the band released their latest album "Blood In Blood Out" and there is no doubt that the thrash metal legends are ready to destroy at Inferno Metal Festival!

Gorguts

BLÅ – Dark Essence Records stage

Beneath is a brutal death metal band from Iceland. The band is an excellent example on how brutality and technicality can work well together and create a sound that feels like being run over by a motorcycle club. Beneath is now working on a new album that sounds just like real brutal death metal should. See them live at Inferno Metal Festival for the very first time!

DØDSFALL (NO) The Norwegian black metal band Dødsfall was formed in 2009 and has since then released four full-lengths albums and one EP. The latest album is their black metal masterpiece “Kaosmakt” from last year. The band is Ishtar's brainchild, and adding to their live line-up is Clandestine (ex-Dødheimsgard) on bass, Telal (Troll, ex-Endezzma) on drums and Xarim (Djevelkult, ex-Crest of Darkness) on vocal. JOHN DEE – Indie Recordings stage

EL CACO (NO)

GORGUTS (CA) Gorguts is one of Canada's leading death metal bands – starting all the way back in 1989. Their brutal yet technical style of death metal soon got world recognition and the band released many great albums between 1991 and 2001. Some years later the band called it a day. Finally in 2013 the band returned with a new masterpiece called "Colored Sands" – and now, for the very first time, the band is ready for Norway and the mighty Inferno Metal Festival!

PSYCROPTIC (AU) From Tasmania in Australia, the death metal band Psycroptic, has been releasing a huge number of critically acclaimed albums since 1999. The band has been performing in all corners of the world, supporting legendary death metal acts like Obituary, Cannibal Corpse and Carcass. So it is about time to bring this great band to Norway and Inferno Metal Festival. This just might blow you away!

The Norwegian band El Caco's seventh album, simply called "7", was released on Indie Recordings earlier this year and is filled with great and unique stoner metal. El Caco is a great live band with raw energy and can be experienced live at Inferno Metal Festival 2016.

After Per Valla left Elite and Allfader he initiated Vredehammer as a solo studio project. In early 2013 Vredehammer became a fully functional band, and has by now released three EPs, four singles and one full-length. Their style of black metal is solid and strong, done within an epic soundscape. Valla was recently the guitarist for Abbath, but left to fully concentrate on Vredehammer. Their brand new album "Violator" will soon be released on Indie Recordings and is something to look forward to.

Mistur hails from the west of Norway and belong to the famous wave of black metal bands carrying the Sogndal sound known simply as Sognametal. A sub-genre made famous by Windir, but also includes such bands as Vreid, Cor Scorpii, Sigtyr, Feigd, and yes; Mistur. Their debut album from 2009, "Attende", is a symphonic, melodic black metal masterpiece. This is some of the greatest melodic black metal ever created. Not surprising, as Mistur features members and ex-members from such bands as Windir, Vreid, Kampfar, Sigtyr and Emancer. Their long awaited second album is working process and will be out in time for Inferno Metal Festival 2016!

THE 3RD ATTEMPT (NO) Norwegian black metal is still strong as hell and even if The 3rd Attempt is a new band; their sound is old school. Their debut album, "Born in Thorns", was released to great acclaim and no wonder, as this is one of the best black metal releases of yesteryear. But could anyone expect anything else? Because The 3rd Attempt is the new brainchild from riff master Tchort from such bands as Carpathian Forest, Green Carnation, Blood Red Throne, Emperor and Satyricon. It also features members from other bands like Apostasy, Midnattsvrede and Den Saakaldte, just to mention a few. The 3rd Attempt is everything true Norwegian black metal is about and they sure will put up a hell of show when the play at Inferno Metal Festival for the very first time.

LUCIFER's CHILD (GR) Dark Essence struck gold when they signed Greece's most exiting band at the moment. Lucifer's Child was formed in 2013 by George Emmanuel of Rotting Christ and Stathis Ridis of Nightfall. Their debut album, "The Wiccan", was just released and it is such an atmospheric and epic black metal experience that it stands out from most of the music released today. Lucifer's Child brings forward the Greek black metal sound to new levels and "The Wiccan" is a modern occult masterpiece. This band is not to be missed at Inferno Metal Festival 2016!

MISTUR (NO)

VREDEHAMMER (NO)

POKALEN

Hetroertzen is a Black Metal band formed in Chile – but later relocated to Sweden. The band has released five studio albums and is now working on their next chapter with a brand new album that is scheduled to be released in 2016. The band will be performing a true black metal ritual at Pokalen during the Inferno club night. Exodus

SAHG (NO) Sahg hails from Bergen and plays stoner and doomish heavy metal. The band started out in 2004 and has released four albums and is now working on their fifth. Sahg will once more release their gloomy riffs and heavy tunes at Inferno Metal Festival when they return to the Indie Recordings stage at John Dee.

Orkan, a black metal band based in Bergen, features members and ex-members of bands like Enchanting Darkness, Byfrost and Taake. Their debut album "Crimson Canvas" is, as described by the band, "a selffinanced, thrashy album", but Orkan has now left this sound behind them and taken their musical vision in a much darker direction. They've taken the classic Norwegian black metal sound and incorporated it with influences from many other genres to create atmospheric melodies with haunting vocals and intense blast beats. Their new album, "Livlaus", was just released and is worth checking out. So is Orkan when they play live at Inferno Metal Festival for the very first time.

Flukt is a black metal band from Vennesla in Norway and was founded 2014. All of the members in Flukt are also part of the Norwegian thrash metal band Cyanide. Flukt has released one EP called “Holocaust” that came out last year.

approach to metal and hardcore. Atena delivers a combination of ferocious brutality with melancholy and playfulness, which makes it hard to predict what will happen next. Having toured Europe with the likes of 1349 and Borknagar, the release of two highly acclaimed full-lengths with their original take on metal and as a ferocious live act, they have surely cemented their place as a band to watch out for!

ATENA (NO)

SHAVING THE WEREWOLF (NO)

Fueling downtempo beats with ferocious riffs and large sonic landscapes, these young lads are really starting to make a name for themselves with a fresh new sound and

Shaving the Werewolf has trudged around Oslo since 2010. Their music has been described as "angular and spastic hardcore” and a "sorta nice epileptic seizure".

FLUKT (NO)

The band themselves describe it as ugly music by ugly people, which is hard to play and harder to listen to. As a live act they are known to always deliver, both in a positive and a negative sense. Some concert goers are left standing long after the show is over, throwing about their long, perfectly conditioned hair, while others leave the venue for fresh air, shaking their heads saying "This is the worst thing I've seen in my entire life". Norway's biggest radio show for underground acts called it "music for those who want to take music to someplace new". So if you wanna take music to the crapper, the morgue or Drammen, then Shaving the Werewolf are the bike cab to take you there.

THURSDAYMARCH 24. ROCKEFELLER

Mysticum

MYSTICUM (NO) Mysticum was formed back in 1992 under the moniker Sabazios. In 1993 they changed the name to Mysticum. The Norwegians' debut album, "In the Streams of Inferno", was originally slated to be released on Euronymous' Deathlike Silence Productions. That did not happen, but the band continued on with their unique style of industrial black metal on Full Moon Production, and later on Peaceville. In 2014 they released their follow-up to "In the Streams of Inferno", a critical acclaimed album called "Planet Satan". The band has not played in Norway for over 20 years and what better place to return than on Inferno Metal Festival 2016? Mysticum promises a huge production with a full set live show and a once in a lifetime experience. This is something you can't miss!

Marduk

VADER (PL) Vader is one of the first and best-known death metal bands from Poland. The band was formed in 1983 as a heavy metal band, but changed their style to be more extreme over the years and is today known as one of the eagles of death metal. The band has released 11 albums and many are regarded as classics within the death metal scene. The band played at Inferno Metal Festival back in 2003 with great success. We are proud to have them back with us and looking forward to a great show from this legendary death metal band.

ICS Vortex

ICS VORTEX (NO) ICS Vortex is a name most extreme metal fans should be aware of. He is the front man for such bands as Borknagar, Arcturus and Lamented Souls – and he used to play bass in Dimmu Borgir. The man behind this voice calls himself ICS Vortex and this band is his own playground. His solo project released an album back in 2011 called "Storm Seeker" and finally you can see this band live at Inferno Metal Festival for the very first time!

CATTLE DECAPITATION (US) The most blasphemous band in the world! Marduk has lived up to their reputation and still today, 25 years after the band was formed, they sound like a war machine crushing every religious figure that crosses their path. The band has a huge back catalogue consisting of great albums, and they continue to release some of the most brutal and heretic black metal albums there is today. The band released their album "Frontschwein" last year and it has become an instant classic. Their gig at Inferno Metal Festival 2016 will be a fist in the face of god and is not to be missed!

SCARRED (LU) Scarred was formed in Luxembourg under the moniker Requiem back in the year 2000. Three years after they changed their name to Scarred and evolved their unique sound that is a blend of groove, thrash and death metal. Their style is similar to French outfit Gojira, but Scarred is more brutal and diverse. The band has released two full-length albums and done a lot of touring around the world. Their guitarist Diogo Bastos also has a strong connection to Norway as he was the live guitarist for the famous black metal band Satyricon. Scarred has earned a well-deserved reputation for their great live shows. So check'em out at Inferno Metal Festival 2016!

Since then the band has released seven albums while building up a huge amount of followers over the years. Last year Cattle Decapitation released their latest album “The Anthropocene Extinction” that received great reviews from critics and fans. The band has been fighting animal cruelty, often using artwork of animals treating humans like humans normally treat animals. Their music is brutal and sometimes complex. This will be something to experience when the band performs Inferno Metal Festival for the first time!

There are few bands that can blend together melodic black metal with doom metal as good as Italy's Shores of Null. This is like listening to the bastard child to My Dying Bride, Dissection, Katatonia and Ulver. The atmosphere the band created on their debut album “Quiescence” from 2014 is simply amazing. One of the best newcomers within blackened doom metal.

DEATHCODE SOCIETY (FR) Deathcode Society was formed in France in 2009. Their style is symphonic black metal with lots of horror vibes and eerie atmosphere. The band itself calls their music apocalypse metal. The album even won “Best album” at EMC's Awards 2015. So check out these newcomers when they are still "underground". It won't be for long. REVOLVER

Abyssion is a duo consisting of Jose Rossi and Antti Varis. This is their psychedelic black metal project and it sounds like an amazing mix between Burzum’s mesmerizing repetitiveness, the psychedelic madness of Oranssi Pazuzu and the psyched out doom rock from Spectral Haze. Their second album, “Luonnon harmonia ja vihreä liekki”, hit the stores last summer and it sounds like nothing else. This is something unique that you have to experience when Abyssion hits the stage at Inferno Metal Festival for the very first time!

SATURDAYMARCH 26. ROCKEFELLER

MAYHEM (NO) There is no doubt that Mayhem is one of the most legendary and controversial bands coming from Norway. They are one of the most influential extreme metal bands and the reason why Norwegian black metal has conquered the world. Even with their notorious past – the band is still standing strong after more than 30 years of mayhem. After all; the music speaks for itself. With classic songs from "Pure Fucking Armageddon", "Deathcrush" and "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" to newer material from "Grand Declaration of War" to "Esoteric Warfare", the band has a huge back catalogue that can make your skin shiver. And so it will when The True Mayhem return to Inferno Metal Festival in 2016!

MOONSORROW (FI) The Finnish folk metal band Moonsorrow was established as a black metal outfit by the two Sorvali cousins in 1995. MORK (NO)

Månegarm was formed in 1995 and has since then released 8 full-length albums. “Månegarm” is their latest release and was just out on Napalm Records to great feedback from both fans and critics. Their style is a mixture of black, Viking and folk metal, with lyrics about Norse mythology. This will be their first appearance in Norway and at Inferno Metal Festival and Odin will be disappointed if you miss this opportunity to see one of the best Viking bands at Norwegian soil!

Mork started as a one-man-band in Halden in 2004. The music is similar to the earlier black metal bands from Norway, like Darkthrone and Burzum. The sound is cold, dark and has that Norse feeling from this weather-beaten country of ours. One of the first chances to see this band live will be at Inferno Metal Festival 2016!

- A STORY TOLD IN PICTURES

MAYHEM MAYHEM WILL HEADLINE INFERNO METAL FESTIVAL ONCE AGAIN. WE WILL COME TO THAT. BUT

FIRST WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THE NEW BOOK SUPERVISED BY AN ENTHUSIASTIC NECROBUTCHER.

HIS PHOTOS TELL STORIES. BUT THIS BOOK, “DØDSARKIV”, ALSO TELLS NECROBUTCHER’S OWN STORY OF MAYHEM FROM 1984 TIL 1994. guess it took its toll to complete the book? - The idea from the start was to make a photo book. I have these old photo albums and I would like to share selections with our fans. There’ve been quite a few people who have been visiting me during all these years, and they’ve been excited about these photos. But you know, I can’t have every fan coming to my house, having a cup of coffee and look through the albums. I could’ve posted photos via Internet, but before anything really came into action I got an offer from a Norwegian company, Aschehoug. They wanted to be a part of this. So, I picked some 200 photos altogether. Ca. 190 photos are in the actual book. As said, the idea was to make a photo book. But the publishing company asked me to write a few words to the pictures, kind of like a traditional photo book. Then they asked me to write a bit more about what I remembered from when we recorded “Deathcrush”. But the more I told, the more they wanted me to tell more. A Norwegian journalist, Svein Strømmen, recorded our conversations and made some questions of his own, in order to bind the story together. The pictures

By: Roy Kristensen Bakland were sorted in a historical correct order. Thus the story had to be like that as well. Christian Belgaux helped me with the photos together with ANTI/Fredrik Melby. I guess it didn’t hurt the quality that Fredrik also was a fan of Mayhem. I felt that the whole project was in good hands, but I can assure you that there were stressful times, especially closer to the release date. When did the more concrete idea of what now

“AND LET ME PUT IT LIKE THIS, WE HAVE NEVER SOUNDED THIS GOOD AS WE DO NOWADAYS” – NECROBUTCHER is “Dødsarkiv” come to life? - It took 18 months from our decision to record our conversations until we could hold the book in our hands. You know, I am familiar with the music business, so this book thing was new to me. There are different rules, to put it like that. I mean, it’s great with strict rules and that things have to

be in order but on the other hand things move so slowly. The book was released in October 2015, but the English translation is not done yet. I hope it will be finished before summer. We did already work with a publishing company in the States, but there were some complications with the result that we had to go looking for another company. I can’t say now which company we’re dealing with, since the contract is yet to be signed. But I am sure it will be all fine. Personally I think the book looks great and it’s a nice read as well. You said something about 200 photos. Having in mind all the photos you actually have, how was the process in choosing the photos, not to mention those you have to leave out? - Well, not every choice was easy. The pictures from our confirmations were perhaps a bit too private. Then you have the bus card. They thought it was funny and wanted to use it. I shouldn’t have shown Svein and Christian that picture (laughs). But one thing that was a really cool was that when we processed the raw material, I discovered loads of photos I had never seen before. You know, back in those days we only processed the films, we only processed the photos we wanted to use for promotional reasons. The original films were done in black and white, and that was even more costly back then, so we had to prioritize. It was really cool to see those hidden gems. And even more so, I had to twist and turn my brain to remember things connected to the various photos. Luckily did Svein remember quite a lot himself, being a

nerd and a fan of Mayhem for so many years. He remembered many details , which was a good thing when it came to dates for instance. I remembered things that had happened, but he had more overview of certain years and even dates. Looking in retrospect I guess we can state for sure that Svein Strømmen was the right writer of my book. There have been several others that have asked me and whom I obviously have turned down. Necrobutcher has been telling much of this story in various interviews, but this time it was even deeper. - I wanted to be done once and for all, with this story of Mayhem from 1984 to 1994. You should’ve known about all those journalists that have been in touch with me trying to make me comment on books that others have written about Mayhem. I mean, there are still people writing books about us and that’s nice, but now they will eventually be able to put the details into order. I think it makes everything more whole. If it had only been a photo books, it would’ve been cool, by all means, but “Dødsarkiv” is way more than just another photo book. - Thanks. You see, when Svein and I were having our conversations he recorded everything I said. I really got the bottom of things and I don’t think there’s more to tell. If I had chosen what to write and what to leave out from our conversa-

tions, I would probably be a slightly different story do some touring with that concept in mind. So, I in the end. Svein saw things his way and chose doubt we’ll go there. One thing that I can reveal those parts that would be most interesting to the now is that Maniac will be a guest of honour, and public, I suppose. INFERNO HOTEL ROYAL CHRISTIANIA WELCOME TO THE HOTEL ROYAL CHRISTIANIA SUCH A LOVELY PLACE SUCH A LOVELY FACE PLENTY OF ROOM AT THE HOTEL ROYAL CHRISTIANIA ANY TIME OF YEAR YOU CAN FIND IT HERE slightly rewrite of the Hotel California classic by The Eagles – heard as an acapella version last year at one of the pre-parties at the hotel. A bit nostalgic, but we like it. The Royal Christiania Hotel has become our home after serving over five years as a harbour for the festival. And we’ve become friends, very good friends. In fact we love this landmark hotel, with so many different room types, that actually no one at the hotel knows them all – neither the shape or the secrets they may unfold. But the real magic comes from the people and the atmosphere they create during these hectic days. The staff, metal fans, artists, journalists, photographers, music biz, volunteers – all travellers and explorers of the Inferno extravaganza meet here. Drinking, sleeping, eating, socializing and partying, and most important - sharing the impressions and highlights from the concerts. Repeat for four days and that does something to us all. New friendship begins and old ones grow stronger. Year after year. So let’s meet again, get down and cultivate some Inferno vibe…

This year’s soundtrack is provided by DJ Dirge Rep (Orcustus/Djevel) on Wednesday and the following days by the team behind the KATAKOMBEN record shop. We’re also in for a special treat; graduate students from the Barratt Due Music Institute will perform live classical music. On Thursday The Virentia Quartet featuring Frøy Hovland Holtbakk and on Friday The Brass Quintet with Malene Flataker, Karoline Jøkling, Fredrik Hassel, Lars Brynestad and Henrik Åsaune. They promise one thing – after this you will no more be a virgin of classical music!

WELCOME TO THE

CLUB NIGHT By: Runar Pettersen

INDIE RECORDINGS WILL AS USUAL SERVE METAL TO THE INFERNO AUDIENCE AT JOHN DEE. WE GOT IN TOUCH WITH KJERSTI ESPE FROM THE LABEL TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE INSIGHT

hat is Indie Recordings and what does Indie Recordings has to offer? - Indie Recordings is one of the leading independent record labels in Scandinavia, releasing gold record status albums with bands like Kvelertak and Satyricon. We have mainly focused on developing Norwegian acts like 1349, Kvelertak, Satyricon, Enslaved, God Seed, Keep Of Kalessin, Wardruna, Audrey Horne, Oslo Ess ++. But, talent knows no borders and lately the label has gone on to sign several foreign successful acts like Cult Of Luna and Hacride and promising acts like Steak number Eight. What can people see this year at the Indie stage?

INDIE RECORDINGS

W

- We open Inferno 2016 at John Dee with El Caco, Sahg and Vredehammer – all with new material in 2016. Vredehammer will release their next album only days before the label night at Inferno, so this will also be the live premiere on many new tracks! Sahg is praised by metal press all over the world for every release, and has previously played with Iron Maiden, Kvelertak and Ghost – they never go wrong. El Caco is out with their latest album “7” from Jan this year, and with old and new classics from this premium hard rock band the audience can expect a kick ass rock experience from one of Norway’s finest in their genre. Why should the good people of Inferno select your band when there is so much other stuff to see at Inferno Club Night? - El Caco because these veterans are one of the leading rock bands from Norway that never fail to deliver amazing sonic explosions of both rock & roll, grunge, and stoner rock. They have “forged a brand of hard rock that sets a very high standard”. Sahg because metal media all over the world confirm that they are “Excellent”, “Challenging

and beautiful”, “you will not be disappointed”, “immense momentum and excitement. Extremely cool!” and they play with “heart and soul, and thus close to perfection”. Vredehammer because not everyone gets to support Satyricon on a European tour, nominated for a Norwegian Grammy in Metal and top scores all over for their debut album! This is a “mighty and majestic slab of northern darkness” – who can say no to that? Except from your own stage, what will be your personal highlights at Inferno Metal Festival 2016? - I am looking forward to more or less all of the bands in the line-up, but these maybe most of all: Marduk, Nile, Gorguts, Cattle Decapitation, Nifelheim and Mayhem of course. There is also a lot of cool things happening at the Inferno Music Conference this year which will be worth checking out. WWW.INFERNOFESTIVAL.NET

WELCOME TO THE CLUB NIGHT

DARK ESSENCE RECORDS THE BERGEN BASED RECORD LABEL DARK ESSENCE RECORDS WILL AGAIN PRESENT THE BANDS AT BLÅ AT THE INFERNO CLUB NIGHT. WE ASKED MARTIN KVAM FROM DARK ESSENCE TO GIVE US SOME MORE INFORMATION ON WHAT TO EXPECT

hat is Dark Essence and what does Dark Essence has to offer? - Dark Essence Records is the label behind bands like Taake, Helheim, Hades Almighty, Aeternus, The 3rd Attempt, Alfahanne, Slegest, Krakow, Lucifer's Child and more. The label has been active for over 10 years now. We offer quality extreme metal. What can people see this year at the Dark Essence stage? - We have 4 bands on the Dark Essence stage this year, and we believe we have a very strong line-up for the Club Night. The 3rd Attempt released their debut album in 2015,

W

which got a very good response. With ex-members of Carpathian Forest, they've already proven themselves to be a great live band. Expect some classic old school black metal! Lucifer's Child from Greece also released their debut album in 2015, and their classic, Greek style of black metal got great reviews. The band consists of members from Rotting Christ and Nightfall, and this will be their first show in Norway. Orkan, from the west coast of Norway, released their 2nd album in 2015. This is the main band of Taake's live guitarist Gjermund Fredheim, and they've proven themselves to be a great live band after a tour last year with Taake. Last, but not least, is the return of Mistur. The Sognametal band will release their 2nd album right after Inferno, and many have waited a long time for the return of this band. Why should the good people of Inferno select your bands when there is so much other stuff to see at Inferno Club Night?

- We believe we have put together a line-up of bands that you don't see that often, so this is a unique chance to get to see these bands live. And with bands consisting of members/ex-members from well known bands like Rotting Christ, Carpathian Forest, Green Carnation, Taake and Vreid, we can promise some great live bands on our stage. Except from your own stage, what will be your personal highlights at Inferno Metal Festival 2016? - The return of Mysticum should be interesting so looking forward to that. Mayhem is always good, and so is Marduk. And the mightiest band of all time, Nifelheim!

NORSK URSKOG

NORSK URSKOG IS A PURE DEDICATION TO LIFT THE UNDERGROUND SCENE IN NORWAY AND WILL HAVE THE STAGE AT SENTRALEN TOGETHER WITH NEGATIVE VIBE RECORDS. HARALD EILERTSEN IS THE PRIMUS MOTOR BEHIND THE PROJECT AND IS HAPPY TO FILL YOU IN ON WHAT NORSK URSKOG IS ALL ABOUT hat is Norsk Urskog and what does Norsk Urskog has to offer? - Norsk Urskog is a project to promote the lesser known bands from the Norwegian underground metal scene during the Inferno Metal Festival. We release the Norsk Urskog Metal Sampler that you will find in your goodiebags at the festival, as well as organize a couple of gigs in connection with the festival. For bands in the Norwegian metal scene we offer a channel where they can be exposed to the audience, press and business at Inferno. On the flip side we offer the Inferno audience a glimpse into bands and parts of the scene that you would not that easily find otherwise. What can people see this year at the Norsk Urskog stage? - We have teamed up with our great friends from Negative Vibe Records this year, and will organize

two concerts in cooperation with them. One all ages show on the March 15th – which will also be the release of this years Norsk Urskog sampler, and a gig on the Inferno club night (March 23rd.) Both dates will give you a unique chance to see some of Norway’s best underground metal bands! I'd say: expect to be surprised! Why should the good people of Inferno select your band when there is so much other stuff to see at Inferno Club Night? - Norsk Urskog and Negative Vibe have always been about supporting and promoting the best bands from the Norwegian underground. This is where you will see what's growing and thriving in the dark corners of the scene, and perhaps you will be among the first to see the next great band from Norway live! You never know... Except from your own stage, what will be your

personal highlights at Inferno Metal Festival 2016? - I always look most forward to see new bands and bands I have not heard about before. I've got many good surprises through the years by following that notion.

Bands at Vulkan Arena and Pokalen are presented by Inferno Metal Festival.

NEGATIVE VIBE RECORDS

AUDUN MEHL FROM NEGATIVE VIBE RECORDS GIVES YOU A LITTLE INFORMATION ABOUT HIS LABEL AND WHAT YOU CAN SEE AT SENTRALEN DURING THE INFERNO CLUB NIGHT hat is Negative Vibe Records and what does Negative Vibe Records has to offer? - Negative Vibe Records was established 2012 in Oslo, Norway. The founding members of NVR consists of local music enthusiasts who feel that there is something lacking in the music scene in Norway; a label home for the smaller and lesser known bands that work hard, deliver on stage and generally show good musical qualities in the metal and hardcore genre. There are few Norwegian record labels that has its main focus on hardcore and grind/death metal-driven bands. What can people see this year at the Negative Vibe Records stage? - This year Negative Vibe Records presents Shaving the Werewolf and Atena. Both bands are up and coming and are really starting to make a name for themselves. Shaving the Werewolf’s “The Pissing Link” and Atena’s “Shades of Black

W

Won’t Bring Her Back”-releases, were both met with high acclaim from both fans and media. Why should the good people of Inferno select your bands when there is so much other stuff to see at Inferno Club Night? - If the good people of Inferno want to see and hear something a bit outside of the box, they should definitely come to the Negative Vibe Records/ Norsk Urskog-stage. Shaving the Werewolf delivers a unique blend of extreme metal and jazz infused hardcore. Their music has been described as "angular and spastic hardcore” and a "sorta nice epileptic seizure". The band themselves describe it as ugly music by ugly people, which is hard to play and harder to listen to. If you mix up a bowl of the Dillinger Escape Plan, throw some GG Allin into the mix and sprinkle some Horse the Band on top, you are not to far from the sonic chaos that is Shaving the Werewolf.

Atena is a young and upcoming band that has accomplished a lot considering they have not been around that long. They have released two full-length albums, toured Europe with the likes of 1349 and Borknagar and done countless festival appearances. With their modern and original take on metal and hardcore and ferocious live act, they have cemented their place as a band to watch out for. These youngsters will surely leave you astounded! Except from your own stage, what will be your personal highlights at Inferno Metal Festival 2016? - There is a lot of great stuff to watch at the Inferno Festival this year. In my humble opinion, it is one of the strongest line-ups in quite some time. There is a lot to check out but I am really looking forward to Nile, Suffocation, Vader, Cattle Decapitation, Exodus, Mayhem and the Tasmanian devils in Psycroptic.

NORSK URSKOG 15TH OF MARCH AT SENTRALEN NORSK URSKOG WILL HAVE THEIR OWN STAGE TOGETHER WITH NEGATIVE VIBE RECORDS DURING THE INFERNO CLUB NIGHT, BUT ALREADY ONE WEEK BEFORE INFERNO TAKES OFF YOU CAN WATCH SOME NORSK URSKOG BANDS AT SENTRALEN ON THE 15H OF MARCH (NO AGE LIMIT). NORSK URSKOG PRESENT TO YOU THIS NIGHT THE FOLLOWING BANDS:

SHOT AT DAWN

DISINTEGRATION

The Norwegian band Shot At Dawn now releases their fourth addition to their discography, the “Legendary” EP. With this release, Shot At Dawn cement their position as Norway's raddest and most diverse metalcore band. The songs "Legendary", "Dark Design", and "Grind" showcase great versatility, and the cover of Marit Larsen’s "Under The Surface" proves that they are also triumphant in making a tribute to an amazing songwriter in a fitting way. Shot At Dawn has previously played at the industry showcase festival by:Larm and Hove Festival, and they've shared stages with international greats such as Suicidal Tendencies, Sepultura, Black Dahlia Murder, Atreyu, Heaven Shall Burn and more. Stay up to date with Shot At Dawn, they're back with a vengeance.

Disintegration hails from Ål in Hallingdal, and started out as a symphonic Viking-/black metal band. After trimming down the manpower and refocusing the music they re-emerged in 2013 as a three-piece combining the darkness of black metal with the brutality of death metal. Their first EP "Torn Apart" was released in June 2015.

GRINDING FORTUNE Grinding Fortune is a trio from Oslo, combining various kinds of metal, hardcore and noise with an experimental edge. The bands often chaotic and intense live shows can be nauseating for casual listeners. Operating as a guitar and drum duo from 2010 until 2013, the band released three minialbums to favourable reviews from the Norwegian and international press. After a successful European tour supporting death metal legends Blood Red Throne, Grinding Fortune expanded, adding a bassist as their third member. Since then the band has played a handful of local shows, testing and perfecting their new sound. Grinding Fortune is ready with a new astounding album set for release in April 2016 through Negative Vibe Records.
