Hello Neighbors, I thought I'd address the renovation of the Community Center. I know many of you are concerned with the lack of progress and that sometimes many weeks go by with no work at all. Very frankly, no one has been more frustrated with the many delays then me. When the project was approved by the Board, we were given a timetable for various stages of completion. When I showed the schedule to others in the construction business, I was told to expect delays and not to pin my hopes on the end of the year date of 2019. In essence, they said, “There is no way it was going to be done on time.” As I was not familiar with the building industry and came from a corporate environment where deadlines were met as a normal course of business, I tended to believe the consultants were wrong. Well, I have come to understand the construction industry a lot better and see the problems that arise that make deadlines very difficult, if not impossible, to keep. The original “as-built” plans for the Community Center were not completely accurate; and when demotion began, significantly more time was needed to make things right. Adding another structure to an existing one is much different and more difficult than building a new one. Building materials are obtained from third
party vendors and our construction company is literally at the mercy of others' schedules. There is a great deal of construction going on in the Las Vegas Valley, and particularly in North Las Vegas, which slows down obtaining materials. I am not making excuses for the extended time it is taking (MK House will tell you of my rants whenever another delay occurred), but there is just so much pressure that can be exerted on suppliers. Our new completion date is the end of April 2020. Okay, these are the facts like it or not (and I hate it), but I accept the fact that screaming doesn't enhance progress and good things are worth waiting for. I know that this will be true when the new community center is completed. I am very appreciative of your patience and adapting to changes that we have asked of you. I assure you that when this project is completed, you will be very pleased and proud to show your friends and family the beautiful addition to our common area. We are doing this project to make our community more attractive to new buyers and, of course, to add to your enjoyment. The expanded Community Center will increase your home value, as we will be an even more desirable place to live. Your Board of Directors is committed to being forwardthinking, and the modern expanded community center is but one example of why we earned the 2018 CAI “Best Large Association in Southern Nevada” award. Respectfully submitted, Warren M. Geller President, Sun City Aliante Board of Directors

BOARD MESSAGE THANKS FOR ASKING!
Nancy Prince
Can you believe it is 2020? What can we do with this new beginning? If there is one thing I've learned in life, it is that nothing is permanent. Things happen; things change. When things happen and change, we all have to face new beginnings over and over whether we like it or not. When presented with an opportunity, I try to do my best to take on that challenge. Doing something that is more important than myself is a true picture of who I am. Often the key to beginning again requires envisioning the future.
When I thought about running for the Board of Directors here at Sun City Aliante, I contemplated what my vision would be. I realized I now had a different frame of reference. In addition to caring about my community as a homeowner and resident, I began to think of ways to maintain the beauty and value of our community on behalf of all homeowners and residents. I began to wonder what others thought would be important for our community. You will likely agree that complaining about something is usually easier than taking action. But complaints also can be seen as opportunities. They are really just questions in disguise. Since being elected to your Board of Directors, I find that community members often approach me with questions and even a few complaints.
6
WWW.SUNCITYALIANTE.ORG | THE BREEZE
I view these as opportunities to engage in information-sharing, discussing points of view, and ultimately, working toward making our community the best it can be. Questions have helped me see things from the perspectives of others. And listening to our community members has made me better at envisioning the future of our community and everyone who lives here. We all have the same goal of enjoying our life in Sun City Aliante. So, keep the questions coming. At Sun City Aliante, we are very fortunate to have wonderful resources for our questions. Our #1 on-site resource is our General Manager, Damian Carrasco. He is what keeps our community running. Damian is a skilled, knowledgeable and highly experienced professional. Our Assistant Manager and Director of Standards and Compliance, Nelenie Aronce, is also an excellent resource for our community. Both Damian and Nelenie have a vast amount of knowledge about the things that make our community great. They are both very accessible and would be able to answer most questions you might have about our community. Your Board of Directors is charged with making informed decisions on behalf of all homeowners. Damian and Nelenie are charged with carrying out those decisions as well as managing the day to day operation of our Association. You can find their contact information in every edition of The Breeze. Want to be happy in 2020? Find your purpose! If your life was a book and you were the author, how would you like it to go? And what could you do to get there? I started writing a new chapter in my book when I got elected to your Board of Directors. You can make your new beginning starting today! Respectfully, Nancy Prince Director, Sun City Aliante Board of Directors Princen715@gmail.com

EXPANSION UPDATE
Sunday from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. The door will be locked after 6 p.m. (Monday-Saturday) and 2 p.m. (Sunday) unless an event is scheduled in the room.
Update on Expansion & Enclosure Project "Pardon Our Dust”
Trailer in the Parking Lot – Temporary offices for Damian, the Community Manager; Debbie, the Lifestyle Director; and Trish, Editor of The Breeze magazine.
In December, the steel and wood trusses were delivered and installed. The roofing structure of the expanded new 3,500 square foot space and the entrance were completed. The firewall was installed, and we began looking at finishes for flooring, cabinets, counter tops and mill work.
This view shows the completed wood framing on the new entrance.
During January, the construction crew will work on the mechanical, plumbing, electrical and fire suppression systems and install the windows. They will also complete glazing work and drying in the roof. The building should be completely closed in before the end of the month.
Compliance and Customer Service Department –Carol, the Customer Service Coordinator, is located in her original office. Nelenie, the Assistant Manager/ Compliance Director, is now located in a new office right next to Carol. Parking – We ask you to continue to refrain from parking in the Aliante Golf Club parking lot, as this area is reserved for golfers. Reminder: During the construction period, several key areas will be affected: The Billiard Room and Activity Room are not available for use as they will be expanded as part of the construction project. The Lobby area of the Vista Room building is not available for use during the construction period. The Library and Computers are not available for use as they will be relocated.
The Hours of Operation have changed at the Community Center to the following: MondaySaturday - 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday – 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Residents are requested to vacate the building 15 minutes prior to closing time; so, the building can be cleaned and secured.
The Conference Room is available for normal use for scheduled meetings.
The Front Entrance to the SCAL Community Center is closed. You cannot access the Community Center through this entrance until the project is completed.
Throughout the project, we will provide frequent updates in the eBlast, The Breeze magazine and on the new website (suncityaliante.org), including where we are, what's affected, what's next and new timelines as they develop.
Back Entrance Closed – You cannot access the Community Center via the pathway behind the building at the intersection of Lintwhite and Lanneret. Signage is now located on the Community Center building to identify all three entrances and which activities you can access at these entrances. The Front Desk has two locations (just outside the Social Hall and at the entrance to the Swimming Pool) for the duration of the construction project. Lifestyle Associates are relocated to these areas to assist you.
The Veteran's Memorial has been relocated. The bike rack has been relocated to the Bocce Ball court area.
You can now obtain comprehensive information on the new website. On the bottom of the home page of the site, there is a dedicated section called “Caution, Work in Progress” that contains an animated video showing the design concept and the current timeline. We appreciate your patience throughout the duration of this construction project. We are confident you will be excited about the changes we are making for a larger and more attractive Community Center.
Main Entrance - Swimming Pool/Sauna/Spa & Fitness Area/Fitness Studio – To access these areas, you must enter through the gate at end of the building. Then you proceed through the double doors to the building. This is the only access for anyone who needs the assistance of a wheelchair or a walker. We have Lifestyle Associates stationed at this entrance to assist you with scanning your membership cards for seminars, the pool area and the fitness area/classes and purchasing tickets for entertainment events. We have received some questions recently regarding use of the golf course, so we wanted to provide you information. The Aliante community has several public trails and parks designated for walking, jogging, and other recreational activities. Please feel free to use these trails and parks at your leisure during their hours of operation. Elite Golf Management will work with the City to enforce the restrictions. Please report any concerns to the golf course's management. Please do not take action on your own to enforce the rules. Thank you in advance for your valuable cooperation. We hope you will continue to respect and enjoy the Aliante community and all of its wonderful amenities in the manner they were intended to be used. During the 5th Annual Golf Tournament at Aliante Golf Club, hosted by the Foundation Assisting Seniors (FAS) on October 18, Jeff Henshaw won the first ever hole-in-one grand prize, sponsored by Ed Bozarth Chevrolet. "Since we began our annual tournament at the Aliante Golf Club in 2015, we have been honored to have a monumental prize for a 'hole-in-one' provided by Ed Bozarth Chevrolet," said Karl Vonderohe, event chairman and vice president of Foundation Assisting Seniors. "For the first time ever, we are elated to award a brand-new Chevrolet Camaro to Jeff Henshaw this year!" In order to win the vehicle, a golfer must shoot a hole-in-one on the 6th hole at the Aliante Golf Course. Jeff was able to achieve this, much to his disbelief. The proceeds from this event benefit the Foundation and its ongoing services that assist seniors throughout the Las Vegas Valley.

questions regarding the Open Enrollment Period. If you are turning 65 soon (1955 birth year), congratulations! Contact me to learn about your options for Medicare insurance. Medicare is one of the few real benefits of getting older.
Well, it's the new year and a new decade! Yes, I didn't think it would go this fast either. But I'm glad, as always, for the cooler winter weather.
What you don't know may cost you in stress, time, and money!
Did you survive AEP (annual enrollment period) without much stress? If not, the good news is there is still the Open Enrollment Period (OEP) which runs from January through March. This is specifically for people who have Medicare Advantage Plans (MAPD), also known as plan C. Typically, there is $0 premium and $0 deductible with either a PPO or an HMO type network and includes your prescriptions. During this period, you can make a ONE TIME CHANGE to either a different MAPD (Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plan) or back to original Medicare and add a Medigap (supplement plan) which would also require a stand-alone prescription drug plan (PDP). Be aware, though, you may have to go through underwriting to qualify for a supplement plan (Medigap). So, if you find out you enrolled into a plan that's not good for you, there's hope. Or, if you find out your old plan is okay but your or another insurance company came out with a new plan for 2020, you may be able to still change. If you're not sure, I will repeat my company slogan “What you don't know will cost you in time, stress, and money;” so, do yourself a favor and at least check. If your confused or just wondering if you could save, come to my Lunch 'n' Learn on Tuesday, January 21. I will go over the options and answer

VETERANS AUXILIARY Happy New Year from the Ve t e r a n s A u x i l i a r y ! They hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday Season. On December 3, the Veterans Auxiliary delivered lap blankets to the VA Hospital. On December 14, they placed wreaths on veterans' graves at the Southern Nevada Ve t e r a n s M e m o r i a l Cemetery in Boulder C i t y. T h e y a l s o sponsored the Veterans 365 Holiday Dinner, including the community Meet 'n' Greet, on December 19. A very special “thank you” to all the Sun City Aliante community residents who donated items to the Veterans Auxiliary for the homeless and needy veterans at Veterans Village. Through the generous donations from our community residents, the SCAL Veterans Club, the Pickleball Club, and the 31 Card Group, we were able to make up 200 men's bags and 22 women's bags. These bags contained new towels, new washcloths, new socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, T-shirts and toiletries. The bags were donated to the Veterans Village for distribution on Veteran's Day on November 11. This just goes to show that when we all work together great things can happen! Thank you again for your donations and for thinking about our homeless and needy veterans. Veterans Auxiliary Opportunity Table is shown at the Veterans Club Spaghetti Dinner.
