BOARD MESSAGE THANK YOU
By the time you read this article, I no longer will be part of the Sun City Aliante Board of Directors. I have served on the Board since 2006, except for one year, when we first moved into SCAL. I am honored that the community repeatedly has elected me to represent them and be a small part of making our community the finest large-scale Homeowners Association in Southern Nevada. (In my opinion, we are the best association in all of Nevada.)
Over the years, I have learned many things and served with some of the finest people living in this community. We may not have agreed Don Schaefer always with each other, but as a Board, we supported the decisions made by the majority and did not try to undermine those decisions. I also learned the importance of having an educated Board. We are the only Association, in the entire State to have all seven members certified as Dedicated Community Association Leaders (DCAL). Having an entire Board certified made it a pleasure to work with other Board members who understood the importance of being knowledgeable in Nevada laws governing HOAs. I learned that being a Board member means more than attending monthly meetings. It takes dedication to serve on any Board. I applaud all with whom I have served and look forward to seeing other owners stepping up and letting their skills guide this community into the future.

During the years that I have served on the Board, I have seen the community center change with the expanded Vista Room, the addition of the craft rooms and the addition of the pickleball and basketball courts. Now, I look forward to the complete renovation and expansion of the community center. While serving on the board, I have been recognized as the DCAL of the year by the Nevada CAI Chapter. I, along with 55 other LAC members across the nation, am being honored in May 2019 by the National CAI Legislative Board at the National CAI Convention for my dedication and service on the Nevada Legislative Action Committee. These and other recognitions received over the years would not have been possible without the support I received from the Board of Directors and the community at-large. I also want to thank the community for their support, when we need to rouse our legislators in Carson City, and I hope you will continue to be part of the Grassroots Initiative; so, we can have our voices heard by our elected representatives. While I will no longer serve on the Board, I hope to continue to represent our community by serving on the Aliante Master Association Board. I also will continue to be involved with the Legislative Action Committee, during legislative sessions, to protect Common Interest Communities throughout Nevada. You still will see me around the community, and I hope to serve on a committee in some capacity. More importantly, I will attend Board meetings, and I may, on occasion, take the opportunity to speak to the Board about issues. I hope you will join me in attending these Board meetings Again, thank you for allowing me to serve in this fantastic community. Don Schaefer Former Director, Sun City Aliante Board of Directors

WE ARE...
COMMUNITY MGR FROM YOUR COMMUNITY MANAGER Dear Residents,
Damian Carrasco
I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the ARC (Architectural Review Committee) for the extremely important role they play in our Homeowner's Association (HOA). You may have heard the word “ARC” and wondered what it meant and how it related to our community. The mission of the ARC is to evaluate and review our design guidelines and to ensure our HOA follows any new local, state or federal laws, developer agreements and keeps pace with the changes in technology.
Our sincere thanks and appreciation to all members of the ARC Committee including: Chairperson, Harlan Nelson; Board Liaison, Mark Pallans; Mark Klein; Sharon Griffith; Tim Shaw; Tom Burdick; Mary Kaufman; and Teri Narveson. Their average tenure is seven years. They are dedicated people with a lot of experience who spend countless hours ensuring we uphold the highest standards in maintaining and enhancing the overall aesthetics of Sun City Aliante. They collectively give new meaning to the word VOLUNTEER.
The Budget Ratification Meeting is scheduled on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 6:45 p.m. in the Vista Room of the SCAL Community Center. The ARC holds meetings two times a month to accommodate homeowners. ARC Review Meetings are held every two weeks on Thursdays to review homeowner applications (Homeowners are also invited to the Review Meetings to ask questions about projects.) ARC Meetings are held the next day (Fridays) to make decisions and process applications. The ARC processes applications twice a month, because there are stipulations in our governing documents about how quickly we must respond to applications. The Committee also wants to provide timely responses to homeowner requests, because people usually want to do the work quickly. In addition, once the project is complete, Committee members inspect projects to be sure the guidelines were followed. If you have a project in mind and you would like to discuss it, I recommend you seek the guidance of the ARC Committee. They will guide you through the process, and you'll be confident your project is approved before you move forward. Damian Carrasco Community Manager, Sun City Aliante
I would be remiss if I did not recognize the Committee for recently undertaking the daunting task of reviewing and revising the Community Association's Architectural Design Guidelines, which were approved by the Board of Directors on February 13 and mailed to all homeowners on March 8. ARC members, along with Nelenie Aronce, our Director of Compliance and Assistant Manager, spent an extensive amount of time viewing every single page of the Guidelines and improving the document. You can find the 2019 Revised Architectural Design Guidelines on the main page of the website. Just select “Documents” on the blue bar at the top of the site; then select “Policies and Guidelines” and select the first offering which is “Architectural Design Guidelines.” The purpose of the Guidelines is to allow reasonable accommodations for owners to improve the aesthetics of their property and surrounding areas. The standards outlined in the Guidelines set criteria for design, style, materials, colors and location of site improvements, landscaping and signage. The Guidelines also establish a process for review of proposed improvements to ensure all improvements are developed to maintain the consistency and quality standards of the community. If you plan to make any improvements to the outside of your home or property, you are required to submit a Home Improvement Application detailing your project to ARC, which is handled through the Compliance/Customer Service Office.

EXPANSION UPDATE Update on Expansion & Enclosure Project "Pardon Our Dust” We are making steady progress on the Expansion and Enclosure Project. The construction areas are now tarped off and demolition of the Community Center entrance is on track. In the beginning of June, we will move forward with the demolition of the concrete areas. The next stage will the pouring of the foundation. Once this phase is complete, we will begin working on the structural walls in later June.
Our construction project is moving along as you can see by the changes to the entrance of the building.
The Front Entrance to the SCAL Community Center was closed as of Friday, April 19. You cannot access the Community Center through this entrance until the project is completed.
Back Entrance Closed - You cannot access the Community Center via the pathway behind the building at the intersection of Lintwhite and Lanneret. Signage is now located on the Community Center building to identify all three entrances and which activities you can access at these entrances. The Front Desk has been moved to two new locations (just outside the Social Hall and at the entrance to the Swimming Pool) for the duration of the construction project. Lifestyle Associates are relocated to these areas to assist you.
Trailer in the Parking Lot - This is a temporary office for Damian, the Community Manager; Debbie, the Lifestyle Director; and Trish, the Editor of The Breeze magazine. Compliance and Customer Service Department - Both Nelenie, the Assistant Manager/Compliance Director, and Carol, the Customer Service Coordinator, will be co-located in the same area (where Carol's office is currently located). Parking - We ask you to refrain from parking in the Aliante Golf Club parking lot, as this area is reserved for golfers. Reminder: During the construction period, several key areas will be affected: The Billiard Room and Activity Room are not available for use as they will be expanded as part of the construction project. The Lobby area of the Vista Room building is not available for use during the construction period. The Library and Computers are not available for use as they will be relocated. The Conference Room is available for normal use for scheduled meetings. The Veteran's Memorial will be relocated to the Courtyard area near the swimming pool. The bike rack has been relocated to the Bocce Ball court area. Throughout the project, we will provide frequent updates in the eBlast, in The Breeze magazine and on the new SCAL website (suncityaliante.org), including where we are, what's affected, what's next and new timelines as they develop. You can now obtain comprehensive information on the new website. On the bottom of the home page of the site, there is a dedicated section called "Caution, Work in Progress" that contains an animated video showing the design concept and the current timeline.
Main Entrance - Swimming Pool/Sauna/Spa & Fitness Area/Fitness Studio - To access these areas, you enter through the gate at end of the building. Then you proceed through the double doors to the building. This is the only access for anyone who needs the assistance of a wheelchair or a walker. We have Lifestyle Associates stationed at this entrance to assist you with scanning your membership cards for seminars, the pool area and the fitness area/classes and purchasing tickets for entertainment events. Social Hall & Craft Rooms - To access the Social Hall or Craft Rooms, you enter the double doors to the right of the Social Hall (opposite the tennis courts). Please remember you will only enter this door if you attend an activity in the Social Hall or the Craft Rooms. Lifestyle Associates are stationed at this entrance to assist you with scanning your membership cards for seminars, events and club activities and purchasing tickets for entertainment events. Effective through the duration of the construction, The Social Hall entrance door is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The door will be locked after 6 p.m. (Monday-Saturday) and 2 p.m. on Sunday unless an event is scheduled in the room.
Would you believe? The carpeting is removed in the Billiard Room area.
We appreciate your patience throughout the duration of this construction project. We are confident you will be excited about the changes we are making for a larger and more attractive Community Center.

Hello SCAL Residents, The summer is in full swing and the hot weather will surely motivate many of you to enjoy the Community Center pool. Why would you not? We have a pretty awesome pool area! I would like to remind you that the entrance to the pool is the side gate by the golf course. Swimsuits are required for all residents and their guests. If you bring children as guests, they must be over 42” tall to swim in the pool. Please make sure they have appropriate swim trunks and/or suits. No shirts are allowed to be worn, while in the pool or jacuzzi. According to Department of Parks and Recreation, street clothes (especially cotton) can transport airborne and ultimately water borne contaminants into the pool. Absorbent materials (such as cotton) can break down in the water and cause fibers to clog filters. Any “colored” material (unless specifically made for swimming) can bleed into the pool, affecting water chemistry and balance. Cotton and similar materials can absorb the chemicals in the water, causing the water to become less effective in maintaining the proper chemical balance or may cloud the water. Please be courteous to one another while enjoying our facilities. If you're riding a bicycle to the Community Center, please store it on the bicycle rack relocated by the bocce courts. Do not chain your bikes to tree trunks, signposts on any common areas, or anywhere near the three entrances to the Community Center. Also, please refrain from parking in the golf course handicapped spaces. These spaces are for the golf course handicapped patrons. We have our own handicapped parking spaces on our side of the parking lot. Inconvenience during the construction of our new Community Center is inevitable. Your management and team are doing everything possible to mitigate these inconveniences and accommodate everyone as much as we can. Getting frustrated and becoming hostile towards the staff is inappropriate. Residents who verbally abuse, harass, or accost staff members will be in violation of the Rules and Regulations and may be called to a Hearing before the Covenants Committee. I understand many of you are concerned about the weeds in our community, especially where the Sun City Aliante property meets the golf course. I am working with Elite Golf Management to identify the areas and clean up the weeds as quickly as possible. Please be patient. On the same token, many of our own homeowners have front landscape that needs to be trimmed. There are many weeds sprouting on the front and side yards. Preventing seed production is essential for control. Dig, hoe or hand-pull young plants; tilling young plants can be an effective mechanical control method. Apply broadleaf-selective or nonselective herbicides on young plants. Lastly, coupon books will be mailed by mid-June. If you do not receive a coupon book, please send in your assessment payments anyway without it to avoid late fees. Reminder: Trash pickup is every Tuesday and bulk pick-up dates for the month are June 4 and June 18. Please don't place your garbage cans at the curb earlier than 6 p.m. on Mondays and please remove them no later than 6 p.m. on Tuesdays. I am very appreciative of how sweet and kind most of you are, and I couldn't be more grateful to be able to serve you as well as I can. If you have any questions, please contact me at 702-638-5006 or email assistantmanager@suncityaliante.us. Nelenie Aronce Assistant Manager, Director of Standards & Compliance

RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT
JUNE 2019
Combat Pilot Jim Parker - A Distinguished Member of the "Greatest Generation" To be Honored for His Years of Military Service By Trish Williamson In his classic novel, THE G R E AT E S T GENERATION, To m B r o k a w, NBC anchor and journalist, profiled service members and civilians, who experienced the Great Depression, came of age during World War II and went on to build modern America. In his book, Brokaw wrote, "It is, I believe the greatest generation any society has ever produced." He describes how this generation gave new meaning to courage, sacrifice, and honor. SCAL resident James "Jim" A. Parker is a product of THE GREATEST GENERATION, and he lives by these virtues. The Veterans Club of Sun City Aliante will honor Jim Parker on June 29 for his extraordinary service in the U. S. Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force as a pilot from 1941 to 1962, when he retired as an Air Force Major. The Veterans Club is hosting a reception on June 29 in the Vista Room of the Community Center from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. SCAL residents are invited to attend the event and to congratulate Jim. Light refreshments will be served. bThe ceremony will begin at 2:15 p.m. Several dignitaries plan to join the members of the Veterans Club to honor Jim Parker. North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee will present a proclamation, making June 29, 2019 "Jim Parker Day" in North Las Vegas. Also, North Las Vegas Councilman Richard Cherchio and Congressman Steven Horsford are expected to attend. Jim was born on March 26, 1922, in the small town of McCaulley, Texas. On March 28, 1941, at age 19, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. According to Jim, he and approximately 300 recruits stood together at basic training and were asked, "Who in this group has a high school education?" A total of 22 people raised their hands, including Jim. They were separated from the group and were screened for pilot training. Jim passed the test and entered pilot training in February 1942. This accomplishment would launch Jim into a lifetime career of flying. He started as an enlisted man, but we eventually joined the officer ranks due to his remarkable abilities as an exceptional pilot and a top-notch mechanic. Along the way, he would study and learn the plane's operating system to be sure he wasn't "flying blind. “

During his service career, he flew 11 different military planes. "I was never a co-pilot, always the pilot," Jim noted. The first plane he ever flew was the Ryan PT22 (in training), which had an open cockpit and a hose installed to talk to the instructor. He then flew the Douglas A 20 HAVOC. His antics in this plane included flying low and "buzzing" over his old school house while kids waved him on. Jim loves to tell stories about experiences flying… and this one is a whopper. He has orders to fly the B-17 -- "Flying Fortress" -and was stationed in Europe in 1943. During this tour, Jim survived a crash landing in Italy after being shot up during a bombing run in Germany. The plane lost all controls. Jim flew the plane home for four hours with only a throttle control and saved nine lives. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and 10 Air Medals for this amazing feat. After Jim attended Bombing Navigator School in Waco, Texas, he had orders to Saudi Arabia, where he flew Grumman SA-16 "Flying Boat" and performed air rescue missions in the Persian Gulf. Following his promotion to the rank of Major, Jim was in a B-52 squadron and trained pilots. His motto was always "If you say you can do it - then do it!” The first jet he flew was the B-52 - which was his favorite plane. During this assignment, Jim flew all over the world, day and night, sometimes for 24 hours on long-range runs. "Aviation gave me about every experience you could imagine," reflected Jim. Jim flew the last B-36 into the Air Force Museum at Wright Field, Dayton, Ohio and also flew the B-24, Douglas A 26 Invader, B-29, Boeing B-50, and the North American B-25 Mitchell. In 1961, Jim turned in his military wings to start a new adventure in civilian life. He received the Air Force Commendation Medal for his service. For the next 29 years, as a civilian pilot, he flew Lear Jets. From 1962 to 1990, he flew planes for the Farrah Slack Co., the Petro Truck Stop Co., and others.

Hello Friends, Neighbors and Constituents of Sun City: With voting upon us, it is important to remember early voting is right around the corner starting May 25 and ending June 7. June 11 is election day. Our campaign will be coming around to ensure folks are aware of voting, so we have a good turnout and everyone exercises their right to vote. I've mentioned a lot of accomplishments that the City Council and I have achieved; but going forward, I wanted to speak of a few things I still want to accomplish. I want to see water bills for seniors lowered and more jobs be available for Ward 4 and North Las Vegas residents. Road resurfacing and infrastructure improvements are planned; so, I will ensure they are completed, as well as continuing to update our beautiful parks and community hubs. I feel these goals are obtainable, integral, and necessary to maintaining high property value, but also a good quality of life. If you have any questions, I'm always available, and often I'm in your area. Feel free to ask me questions, or if you have concerns that need to be handled, never hesitate to ask. My phone number is listed below in case I do not see you in the community at one of the events we have scheduled. I hope I can count on your vote! Thank you, Councilman Cherchio richard@richardcherchio.com 702-325-6708

NEIGHBORHOOD NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MONTHLY TIP: June is Neighborhood
Watch - Block Captain Month When you go to the internet and ask for the definition of a Neighborhood Watch Block Captain you get the following response: “The key person in any Neighborhood Watch group is the Block Captain. This person is an integral component to keeping the block actively involved in crime prevention efforts as well as the important process of information exchange between neighbors.” For those of us in the Sun City Aliante Community, we agree with this description with the emphasis on the word “neighbor.” NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
Block Captains start by having a background check and fingerprinting done at the North Las Vegas Police Department. This initial step indicates to our neighbors our commitment to the highest levels of integrity and trust. We make every effort to get to know our neighbors which, all of us realize, is not always the easiest of tasks. A number of people moving into Sun City Aliante don't feel the need for neighbor contact because of family nearby in the Las Vegas area; or maybe, they are reluctant to put effort into new relationships. For those who are uncertain of how to interact with their neighbors, knowing your Block Captain is a comfortable and easy starting point. Remember, a Block Captain is above all a neighbor.
COMMITTEES
[ [
Block Captains will keep a family data sheet for the information you wish to share. This can include emergency contact persons and their telephone numbers. You can also let the Block Captain know when you are going to be away; so, he/she will keep an eye on your property. It is frequently your neighbors who will notice unusual activity on your property. There is also a concern when there is a lack of activity at your home, possibly indicating an unexpected illness or emergency. By sharing your Block Captain's contact number, a family member or friend can quickly ask for a “wellness check.” One important thing to remember is that a Neighborhood Watch Block Captain is not a “compliance” offcer. We do not look for HOA rules violations – that has never been our focus. We are volunteers concerned with your welfare and safety. We can point you towards community management resources if you have questions that impact compliance; but again, we neither look for nor report violations. There are only about 60 Block Captains for the whole community. Many blocks do not have representation, and this concerns us, especially when wellness checks are needed. A Block Captain will try to contact a homeowner and work with nearby neighbors to make sure that all is okay. We have done some wellness checks in the recent past that did not end well. We wonder if those situations may have ended better if there had been a Block Captain on the block or if the individual had taken the step to meet their neighbors or at least their Block Captain. If you have a desire to volunteer for one of the most beneficial efforts in our community, consider becoming a Block Captain. Our coordinator, Jim Blossey, will be glad to give you information. Jim can be reached at: jimandpatb@embarqmail.com or 775-530-5119. You are also welcome to attend our meeting on June 20 at 4 p.m.in the Social Hall. Feel free to bring your questions or your curiosity. We think you will be pleasantly surprised. We want to make June the Neighborhood Watch Block Captain Month. Meet your Block Captain if you have not already done so – you will be meeting a neighbor. Be safe; if you see something, say something Your Neighborhood Watch Block Captains

SNACK ‘N’ LEARN UNDERSTAND YOUR GENETIC CANCER RISK AND WHETHER YOUR MEDICATIONS ARE HARMING YOU Monday, June 10, 10 a.m. Did you know that there is a simple test to check your predisposition to various types of cancer? A person's unique genes tell a very important story about the risk of cancer. Also, are you aware there is a no-cost screening which eliminates guesswork by identifying which medicines are harmful to you? Health care providers continually prescribe medications which leave a margin for error. Patients take medications often on a trial-and-error basis resulting in use and doses having to be adjusted based on the patient's response over time. Pharmacogenomic testing can eliminate speculation. Nancy McRight and Tillie Stephens, Cancer Screening Advocates, will offer an informative seminar on the value of screening and testing. Please sign up at the Front Desk near the Social Hall or the pool by June 9.
LUNCH ‘N’ LEARN WHAT CAN YOU DO IF YOU DEVELOP NECK PAIN? Wednesday, June 12, 11 a.m. Most episodes of neck pain are due to muscle strain or soft tissue sprain (ligaments, tendons), but it can also be caused by a sudden force (whiplash). These types of neck pain often improve with time and nonsurgical care such as medication and physical therapy. But if neck pain continues or worsens, there is often a specific condition that requires treatment, such as cervical degenerative disc disease, cervical herniated disc, cervical stenosis or cervical arthritis. Duel certified, Doctor of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapist, Dr. Mike Rantissi, PT/OT, owner of Advanced Manual Therapy, will discuss different neck pains causes, treatments, and home exercises. He will also explain how daily habits and posture cause and contribute to neck pain. Daily activities such as your sleeping position, sitting posture, and sports activities can also contribute to neck pain without you realizing it. Dr. Rantissi will provide information on how to avoid neck pain and what to do if you develop neck pain. Please sign up at the Front Desk near the Social Hall or the pool by June 11. WHY WATER TREATMENT IS IMPORTANT
- AN IN-DEPTH LOOK AT WATER TREATMENT SYSTEMS Thursday, June 27, 11 a.m. What's in your water? Why is water treatment important? What are the different types of water treatment systems and how do they work? Most homes have hard water, either supplied by a municipality or private well. Many homeowners don't realize they have hard water and do not understand the harm it causes and the expenses it creates. Hard water contains dissolved calcium, magnesium and, in many cases, iron. Dry skin and hair, bathtub rings, spots on glasses and silverware, dull clothing and poor performance of waterusing appliances are all problems associated with hard water. Join Joe Preising of Focus Plumbing, LLC to learn more about water treatment systems and why they are so important. He will discuss what types of units are available, bring water demo kits and show you how to test their own water and find out what is in it. You'll enjoy lunch provided by a gourmet chef and you'll be eligible to enter into a drawing for a FREE flat screen TV. Please sign up at the Front Desk near the Social Hall or pool by June 26.

With a diverse population of 80,000 St. George is rich in history, geography, culture and the arts. Any player wanting to increase their skills through focused and repetitive practice should meet at the pickleball courts on Monday mornings. CHARTER CLUBS SUN CITY ALIANTE SONGSTERS
The Sun City Aliante Songsters performed their "Singing in the Rain" concert on Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13, 2019, in the Vista Ballroom. Under the music selection/direction of Lorraine Zanello, the Songsters sang a variety of chart-topping songs, accompanied by Rod Stark (percussionist/guitarist), Sandra Carnes (pianist) and guest instrumentalists. Songs included "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head" (Songster band/Kevin Smith on ukulele), "Dust in the Wind" (guitar solo/Mike Philbert), "Send Down the Rain," "Here Comes the Sun" (written by George Harrison), "Can't Stop the Feeling" (percussion solo/ Rod Stark, bass guitar solo/Jim Ohlsen), "The Wind" (written by Cat Stevens), "Singing in the Rain," and "Brighten My Soul With Sunshine." The audience joined the Songsters in singing Irving Berlin's "Blue Skies" (trombone accompaniment/Kevin Smith); "You Are My Sunshine;" and a game of "Audience Complete the Lyrics" with Connie Bensler, Tonnie Fujanic, Pam Moe, and Lorraine Zanello. Each sang the first part of a song lyric and the audience completed it. The concert concluded with "Blue Moon" (trombone solo by Kevin Smith), "Over the Rainbow" (piano duet by Sandra Carnes and Jane Mehta) and Stephen Sondheim's "Everything's Coming Up Roses." The Songsters thank everyone involved for their hard work in making the "Singing in the Rain" concerts a huge success! The Vista Room was packed both nights. The Songsters put in many hours of practice, but it takes a joint effort to put a concert together. From music selected/conducted by Lorraine Zanello, Sandra Carnes and Jane Mehta learning the piano accompaniments, Rod Stark timing drum beats and playing guitar, to decorations, room and sound set up and tickets. A tremendous thank you to the Maintenance staff (Juan, Sharon, Alonso and Kenny) who always go above and beyond to assist the Songsters..
VETERANS AUXILIARY! Hello from the Auxiliary! Members thank everyone who came out to the Veterans Picnic in May. The Auxiliary raffled off a barbeque grill and held a silent auction. At their meeting in May, the Auxiliary presented a check to a representative from the Airmen and Family Readiness Center at Nellis Air Force Base. After their June meeting, members will take a summer break and resume in September.
SCAL VETERAN'S CLUB Summer is about here, and so is the heat. The next Veterans Club meeting is June 18 at 7 p.m. in the Vista Room (use the side door entrance next to the kitchen during construction). There will be no meeting in July or August as many of our members are gone. Meetings will resume on September 17. I hope many members of our community were able to enjoy our annual BBQ Picnic on May 18. We served up grilled hot dogs and hamburgers with “all the fixin's.” The Auxiliary held a silent auction, which featured picnic-themed baskets, and raffled off a BBQ grill. We were happy to be able to continue this tradition even during the construction period. Thank you to all for your support. During a “Flag Party” on May 22, we replaced the flags worn by the sun and wind with new flags.

Scouts assisted putting up the flags in our community on May 25 for observance of Memorial Day… a time to remember the sacrifice of our service members past and present, at home and abroad. On June 29 from 2-4 p.m., the community is invited to attend an event honoring a local resident, Jim Parker, a WWII pilot. Congressman Steven Horsford and Mayor John Lee will present a proclamation to Jim naming June 29 as “Jim Parker Day.” Councilman Richard Cherchio will provide refreshments. Come to hear about this wonderful Veteran. During the April Veterans Club meeting, our own Lifestyle Associate, Jan Davis and her granddaughter, Poliahu, came to invite our members to assist at their 11th Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 20. After Samantha Bevins of Congressman Horsford's office heard about this wonderful young lady and her donations from the Easter Egg Hunt that were given to veterans (including to this Veteran's Club), she presented a Congressional Certificate of Appreciation to Poliahu. Please mark your calendars for these future events: September 14th – Military/Veterans/First Responders Day at Craig Ranch Park – Admission is free. November 2 – Annual Spaghetti Dinner in the Vista Room ($7-resident; $9-guest) Thank you to all of our current and former members of the armed forces and military, and join me in keeping those deployed to other lands in our thoughts for a safe return home to family and friends. Thank you for your service. Wanda Tacey , Chair, Veterans Club
