Hello Friends and Constituents of Sun City Aliante: As your Councilman, it has always been important to me that everyone's needs and concerns are addressed in a timely manner. Going forward, I would like to talk about some plans, goals and priorities for Sun City Aliante. We have infrastructure improvements planned for Ward 4 including: 1. Lowering costs of water bills senior constituents must pay. 2. Increased resources for additional Police, Fire, and First Responders so, Ward 4 is properly protected. 3.Preserving our natural land through protecting National Monuments such as the Tule Springs Fossil Bed National Monument. As a homeowner, myself, in Sun City, I understand your concern for proper growth around our community. I have kept my promise that only singlefamily homes will be built next to Sun City in the Villages of Tule Springs. These are just some of the issues I'd like to address concerning Ward 4, North Las Vegas, and, more speciďŹ cally, Sun City Aliante. Whether I have your vote or not, I want to hear from you, especially if you have a concern that needs to be addressed or questions you need answered. I would love to work together going forward so we can make Ward 4 and Sun City even better for our families and friends! Respectfully, Councilman Cherchio

BOARD MESSAGE PRESERVE AND SHARE YOUR MEMORIES Do you have albums full of photos sitting on a shelf or in a closet? What about boxes of slides and photos? Have you thought about preserving those memories and maybe even sharing them with friends and relatives? Well, you've probably already figured out that having them sitting in albums and boxes doesn't make it easy. Not only is it hard to find and share any particular memory, but photos are all also susceptible to water damage, discoloration, tearing, Wayne Headrick etc. So, what can you do to both stop their deterioration and make them more readily available for sharing? DIGITIZATION is the solution. By digitizing your photographic memories, you can save them from deterioration, reduce the amount of space they take up and make them much more sharable. In addition to these advantages, digital photos also make it possible to correct blemishes, adjust lighting and even crop out ex-boy/girlfriends and/or ex-spouses. If I've convinced you to consider digitizing your photographic memories, there are a few things to consider before beginning. First, the more photos you have, the more you will want. Do some basic organizing before you start – remember that in spite of being carried around with you for 40 or 50 years, not every photo is a winner.

It is OK to start “small” and, in military terms, attack the high-value targets first. I try to think in terms of whether my daughter and/or other close relatives would like to possess them; I also consider whether they might be something that should be uploaded to the Ancestry/FamilySearch genealogy website. Once you've decided to begin, it is vital that you do three things to help ensure that you see the effort through to the end. 1. Get organized – try to sort your photos chronologically or by importance. Either is okay but deciding on an organizational structure early in the process helps keep you focused. 2. Be selective – unless you've already done this throughout your life, it is almost certain that all photos are not created equal. It's okay to leave some behind; besides, it will give your heirs something to sort through later. 3. Handle everything carefully – cleaning off your photos and stacking them neatly will make the digitizing process go more smoothly and will give you better results. Now that you are ready to begin the digitizing process, there are two major “Investments” that you will need to consider and balance, Financial Investment and Time Investment. Depending on the approach you use to digitize your photos, the Financial Investment may be low, medium or high and, as you might expect, the Time Investment is likely to be the inverse. Using a scanner. If you are long on time but short on money or, like me, simply cheap, you may want to opt for using a home scanner to do the job yourself. Set up your scanner so it captures your work at least at 300 dpi in JPG format. Using your smartphone. If you have a reasonable amount of time to spare, but still want to keep your expenses low, you can consider using your smartphone to scan photos; just recognize that digitizing slides or negatives this way is not going to work. While you might think simply using your phone to capture images would not take much time, doing it right takes a little more effort. Until recently, using your phone to scan photos meant careful staging to ensure adequate lighting to eliminate shadows, glare, and distortion that might occur during the process. Using a photo digitizing service. If you are in a hurry to get your photos, negatives, slides, 8-mm movies, videotapes, etc. digitized, and are willing to pay for it, there are a wide variety of services available. Some specialize in particular formats, but all tend to be relatively expensive. Once you've digitized your precious visual memories, now what? Some ideas might include bombarding your family and friends with them; creating a slideshow with music and special effects for your next family event such as a wedding, birthday, anniversary, or reunion; share particularly awkward ones on social media to increase your likes, etc.; or create a DIGITAL photo book that can be displayed and shared without risking damage to the originals. It's all up to you at this point. Respectfully submitted, Wayne Headrick Secretary, Sun City Aliante Board of Directors

WE ARE...
COMMUNITY MGR CAI SELECTS SUN CITY ALIANTE FOR PRESTIGIOUS AWARD On behalf of the Sun City Aliante Board of Directors, I am very proud to inform you Sun City Aliante was selected by the Community Associations Institute (CAI) as the Southern Nevada Outstanding Large Association of the Year. This prestigious award, which is considered the equivalent of the “CAI Oscar,” was presented at the CAI Annual Dinner Gala held at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, March 29, 2019. This honor is a tribute to the vision, dedication and contributions of our Board of Directors and team of staff members who together worked to enhance the offerings, experiences and quality of life for Sun City Aliante residents.
Whether they are making sure our facility is well maintained, are responding to questions and concerns, or handling tasks related our many activities, each and every one of them takes great pride in doing their best and going the extra mile to make sure we are taking care of our resident's needs. The second question asked: provide details regarding how our Association has enhanced the lifestyle of our residents, overcame problems, created a sense of community and/or a project that had a large impact on the overall operations of our Association. The Enclosure and Expansion projects speaks to how we are making things better for our community. This is just one of the examples. Based on the fact that the Board of Directors approved this major construction project demonstrates how the Board, along with the management team, is focused on creating an environment that enhances the experiences of our residents, improves property values and fosters excellence in customer service and everything we do. By the time you read this issue of The Breeze, we should have started the Expansion and Enclosure Project with closure of the main entrance, the construction close-up of different areas that will be worked on, preparation work and minor demolition.

The CAI is one of the largest membership organizations dedicated to building better communities. It has 60 U.S. and International Chapters which provide information, education and resources to homeowner volunteers, who govern communities, and the professionals who support them. CAI's 30,000-plus members include homeowner leaders, community managers, association management firms and professionals who provide products and services to community associations. The Nevada Chapter of CAI hosts an annual gala which recognizes and honors a Small and Large Association of the Year for northern and southern Nevada and other categories including, Small and Large Management Company, Volunteer and Ambassador of the Year and more. Sun City Aliante, along with four other large associations, was nominated for the Outstanding Large Association of the Year award. The Community Managers of the associations were asked to answer two major essay questions regarding specific criteria. One of the essay questions asked: how our Association was involved in CAI activities and opportunities, leadership positions/achievement, legislative sessions, educational development, outreach in the local community, projects designed to enhance HOA lifestyle, future goals and activities related to the CAI or our Association that will emphasize contributions. First and foremost, I want to salute our Board of Directors for exemplifying the core principals of what a Board member should strive to achieve. They all have completed CAIs Board Leadership Development (DCAL) Workshop, an education program which provides a comprehensive look at the roles and responsibilities of community association leaders and conveys information to help them create and maintain the kind of community people want to call home. After completion of the course, they all received a certificate, which is now hanging in the Board Conference Room. Additionally, I noted that we have a Board member who actively represents the interests of HOAs in Carson City, our state capital, though CAI's Legislative Action Committee. These are a couple of examples which emphasize our Association's involvement with CAI. I also want to recognize our outstanding Sun City Aliante staff, a team of dedicated individuals who execute our day-to-day operations with professionalism.

COMMUNITY STANDARDS With warmer weather on its way, I can understand why many residents may want to keep their garage doors open. However, I want to remind all residents that garage doors are to remain closed and only open for ingress and egress. If the garage door is open, I'm assuming someone either forgot to close it or is working on something in the garage. Nevertheless, close your garage doors; so, you don't invite critters and especially intruders. As guests arrive to visit our community, please make sure all residents and guests conduct themselves in a manner; so, they do not jeopardize or interfere with the rights and privileges of other residents and/or their guests. Residents are responsible for the conduct of their guests; please refrain from any loud, profane, inappropriate or abusive language. Guests and visitors are subject to all the Rules, which include proper attire, including upper-body and lower-body garments and footwear, throughout the facility. Residents must check their guests in at the Front Desk upon entering the facility, and residents must always remain with their guests in the facility. We have a beautiful community with fantastic people from all over the country and the world. Our Community Center is about to look even better for you good people to enjoy. Construction of our muchanticipated expansion and enclosure project is underway. We respectfully ask for your consideration and patience with the noise, traffic, temporary lack of space, activities, etc. No resident shall reprimand or otherwise interfere with the management of the Association. The newly revised ARC Design Guidelines are in effect. Please carefully read the guidelines and always refer to them before submitting a Home Improvement Application. If you have questions, please stop by the Customer Service Office. The Architectural Review Committee meets on May 3, May 17 and May 31. If you have an application to submit, please do so no later than 3 p.m. on the Wednesday prior to the meeting. Any exterior change to your home or your yard requires the approval of the ARC committee before you start the project. This includes hanging wall art. Trash pickup is every Tuesday. Please don't place your trash cans at the curb earlier than 6 p.m. on Mondays and remove them from the street no later than 6 p.m. on Tuesdays. The bulk pick up dates for the month are May 7 and May 21. NEIGHBORHOOD NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MONTHLY TIP: Vacation Time Reminders –
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
Packages, Open Garage Doors, Neighbors
We want to take this opportunity to talk about several important problem areas that we in Neighborhood Watch are constantly confronting. The first is the issue of packages left at homes. With online shopping, there has been a significant increase in the number of packages delivered to our homes. The way that you are notified of an imminent arrival is varied – some drivers text you, you can receive an email before and after delivery, or a delivery person puts the package on your porch, rings the bell and leaves. The sooner you collect the package, the less chance it will be stolen. The “porch pickers” are out there.
COMMITTEES
[ [
If you are gone a few days or longer, be careful with orders; so, they do not come when you are away. Also, be sure to cancel regularly scheduled orders such as, the newspaper, or alert a neighbor that you are going to receive a package.
Open garage doors are another significant problem. As the temperatures rise, so do the number of open garage doors. Maybe you want to cool off the garage in the evening, and then you forget to close the door! Leaving the door partially open is just an invitation to a criminal, as they can easily open a partially lifted door and take whatever they can grab – your expensive golf clubs? tools? stored supplies? your car? Worst yet, if you don't have the door into the house locked, you and your loved ones can become targets of robbers who can enter a home and threaten you and steal your valuables.
What is most surprising to patrol volunteers are residents who become irritated or angry with a simple reminder that their garage door is open. Most residents are grateful for the notice but, it is disappointing for a resident to yell at a patrol member. Keep in mind, Neighborhood Watch volunteers are looking out for our community.
We also cannot overemphasize the benefit of getting to know your neighbors. We are part of a large community. You should try to meet your immediate neighbors. Neighborhood Watch is sometimes involved with “wellness checks.” These requests can be initiated by family or neighbors who have not seen a resident doing their regular routine. It's not being “nosy;” it is being concerned. Unfortunately, there are times when a check has not ended well. This also goes along with the flashing emergency lights over your porch. We feel it is better to determine if a wrong light switch was hit, rather than ignore it when it is a signal for help. Several club members, who were unable to attend, donated items. Thank you to all who played and supported the fundraiser. Safety is a priority on the pickleball courts.
