BNew iophoton Therapy: Holistic Healing Method by Irina Gilligan Light brightens every day of our life, and it shows us the world around us. Surprisingly, there also exists an invisible light that is produced by our cells. Because of it, we are actually beings of light. Although this light cannot be seen by the naked eye, it can be measured by special equipment. Every cell emits more than 100,000 light impulses per second. These light impulses are called biophotons. Biophotons were discovered by Russian biologist Alexander Gurwitsch at the beginning of the last century. He found that biophotons have an important role in communication between the biological cells. In 70th German biophysicist Fritz-Albert Popp subsequently did extensive research on biophotons, and he proved that biophoton emission is a general property of all plant, animal and human life. This light emission has a very high degree of order that helps to transmit information between cells. Every biochemical reaction in the body is preceded by an exchange of biophotons. These electromagnetic signals make cells to carry out their functions. In addition, it has been found that there is a connection between biophoton emission and the ability of cells to function properly. Healthy cells emit coherent light, ensuring that the right reactions occur at the right place and time in the body. Unhealthy cells emit chaotic light, leading to inappropriate reactions and disrupted communication between cells. Johan Boswinkel, a Dutch biophysicist, was the first to develop a methodology for the use of biophotons to heal the human body. He proposed the term “biontology” for this new approach. “Bio” refers to life, and “ontology” refers to the ultimate reality of nature, which he believes is Light. Boswinkel invented an instrument, called Chiren, that determines the quality of the biophotons emitted by the human body. With the Chiren instrumentation, Boswinkel found that healthy people emit coherent light, but unhealthy people emit incoherent light. Chaotic light waves are produced by organs and systems that are not functioning optimally. Every day we are exposed to various types of toxins,

4

environmental pollutions, heavy metals, bacterias, viruses, molds, EMF, radiation, etc. These factors all have adverse effects on our bodies, and they change the quality of the biophotons inside us. Emotional traumas influence the light in the body as well. If trauma has not been properly dealt with, it remains as a disturbance, and it affects the respective organ system. Each of these foreign invaders has its own energetic signature that can change the coherency of the light in the body, affecting energy flow and allowing illness to set in. The Chiren instrument is able to identify and remove these energetic disturbances, transforming unhealthy light into coherent light, and thus restoring proper communication between the cells. When Chiren detects a disharmonious light signal, it sends an inverted signal that opposes it, thereby removing the harmful influence on the body. Once this signal is neitralised, the light returns to a coherent state, and the system is again capable of providing appropriate signals to coordinate the biochemistry of the body. Chiren does not generate any light itself, but filters and restores the coherence of the body’s own light. Since 1982, Boswinkel has effectively treated thousands of people using biophoton therapy. This therapy is safe, non-invasive, generally relaxing, and it does not require taking any oral remedies. It has proven to significantly benefit children, adults and animals afflicted with a wide range of acute and chronic health issues. The ultimate goal of biophoton session is to bring back all functions of the body to its optimum. In biophoton therapy, every health problem is traced to its cause. All kinds of pain, physical and emotional, including names of different diagnoses are viewed in biontology as the symptoms of body’s imbalance. These symptoms are warning signals about what is underneath. They can be an early alarm, evidence that something is not working properly and requires a deeper look. Whatever the health problem, mild or severe, acute or chronic, it must be traced to its original root. Health problems and their causes can occur in different places in the body. When we have a headache, we take

Apr / May 2017

a pill. The pill doesn’t know where the pain is, but merely affects the nervous system that in turn produces the endorphins that are responsible for the pain. The cause of the headache is not necessarily in the head. Most often, the cause of the headache is connected with the digestive system. If we have dry skin, we apply lotion or ointment, believing it will heal the condition. But the actual cause of the dry skin is usually due to Gallbladder/ Liver imbalance, exposure to toxins and radiation, or inefficient circulation and kidney function. One cause can be behind many symptoms. For example, appendicitis can lead to hepatitis, gastritis or a bladder infection. For this reason, to treat a bladder infection effectively, a causative role of appendicitis must first be considered. Even when we are exposed to the same causes, we react differently due to variation in our weak points, relationships in our physical structure that are affected by genetic predisposition, life style, and everyday choices - the way we eat, rest, exercise, handle stress and emotional challenges. The reverse may also be true – the same symptoms may have different causes. For IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), the causes we need to consider may include food sensitivity, nutrient deficiency, or the presence of infections, parasites, or bacterial overgrowth. Let’s take a look at neck and back problems from the point of view of biontology. These problems occur frequently in adults, with a variety of symptoms including pain and stiffness in the neck and upper back, from the shoulder blades to the lower back and hips, and often sciatica nerve pain as well. One of the causes we consider at the very beginning is whiplash, and not just the traditional whiplash that is common in car accidents. From the perspective of biophoton therapy, we look at energetic whiplash - separation in the energy flow. It can happen anywhere in the body, but most often it occurs in the neck. Energetic whiplash can be caused by any fall or stretch, creating a distortion of energy flow in the hormonal glands and the meridians that run through the neck, and separating the energy of the head from the torso. Energetic whiplash alone can be responsible for many health issues, and neck pain is just one of them.

Infinity

Other causes for back pain include adrenal fatigue, kidney malfunction, gallbladder malfunction, bladder issues, inefficient circulation, injury, muscle cramping, and even differences in leg length. One cause often leads to another one. In biophoton therapy, all symptoms are viewed in combination and in relation to one another. Problems in the gallbladder system can create cramped conditions in the blood vessels. Poor blood circulation then leads to muscular tension, which in turn causes a difference in leg length, resulting in back pain. Through proper assessment, biophoton therapy addresses all of these causes. The aim of biophoton therapy is to find the ultimate causes behind the symptoms and then to eliminate them. Physical appearance and disappearance of symptoms always begins with the energetic body. For this reason, it is in the energetic body that the real causes of a health problem must be found and removed. Once the cause has been eliminated, the body will be relieved of the symptoms. The body wants to be healthy, and it has an incredible capacity to heal itself. We have to free ourselves from widespread misconceptions and illusions about health and illness, and we must reignite our respect for the wisdom of nature. To feel our best, we need to address the disturbances or stressors in our bodies, restore the coherence of light, and let the energy flow freely and harmoniously. Biophoton therapy is a true holistic healing method that helps to give people their strength back on many levels, physical, mental, and emotional. “I firmly believe it’s only a matter of time before the importance of light energy in your health and well-being becomes more widely recognized and applied in the field of medicine. Until then, remember that your body is not only made up of tissue, blood vessels and organs. It’s also composed of light.” – Dr. Mercola

The Mystery of the Blueberry by Elaine Hruska

Every once in a while, usually during a casual conversation about diet and nutrition, someone may mention a Cayce reading in which the future value of blueberries is extolled. Because the wording of the comment varies somewhat from one individual to another, I decided one day to look up the reading itself to get the exact quote. Here it is: “In the diet—keep to those things that heal within and without. A great deal of celery, lettuce, tomatoes, and especially use the garden blueberry. (This is a property which someone, some day, will use in its proper place!) These should be stewed, but with their own juices, little sugar but in their own juices.” (3118-1) This dietary advice, suggested to a 56-year-old woman with multiple sclerosis and anemia, was offered in a

6

July 28, 1943, reading. It’s the comment in parentheses which caused all the speculation. Looking at Possible Meanings Does the word “property” refer to the “garden blueberry”? Or did Cayce regard “property” as a concept or principle which he mentioned in the first sentence: “those things that heal within and without”? What does Cayce mean by using it (the blueberry or the concept) “in its proper place”? Since in the sentence following the parenthetical expression Cayce elaborates on how to prepare and use blueberries (“stewed, but with their own juices”), it is logical to suggest that “property” refers to the blueberry itself. At times Cayce in the trance state used rather unusual or non-ordinary words to describe

Apr / May 2017

and explain something. So he may have meant that a certain property of the blueberry or the berry itself would in some future time be used properly by someone. Looking at Additional Readings Searching in the readings for other references to the blueberry to discover what may be meant by this elusive “property” was unsuccessful. Surprisingly there are only four readings in which blueberries are mentioned, and three of those references are among notes added to the reading by Gladys Davis, Cayce’s secretary, to help the recipients of the readings follow their dietary advice. For example, in two readings, 560-2 and 813-2, iron was needed in the diet, so Gladys added a listing of foods containing iron; blueberries were included in that list. In several places Gladys was quoting from a booklet entitled Scientific Weight Control by Dr. James M. Booher published in 1925 by Continental Scale Works in Chicago. The listing of foods is identical from one reading to the next. Blueberries make the list of principal foods that contain iron, sulphur, and potassium. Other Nutrients In addition to fiber, blueberries, a North American native, are rich in vitamins C and E, as well as betacarotene. They are also one of the best sources of antioxidants, a group of chemicals that help fight disease by neutralizing unstable molecules called free radicals that do damage to healthy cells. One type of antioxidant, anthocyanin, is a pigment which gives berries their red, blue, and purple hues; blueberries are well supplied with this potent antioxidant. The fruit of Vaccinium myrtillus, the blueberry bush, can be eaten raw with milk or sugar, and made into jams, wine, or jellies. As a tasty snack, blueberries can also be added to yogurt, cereal, smoothies, and salads. This small sub-shrub can reach a height of about 20 inches (50 cm) and is commonly found in peat bogs or shady woods. Its quadrangular, pale green stems are profusely branched, and in its axils (the upper angle between a leaf and a stem) spherical green flowers

Infinity

flushed with red produce eventually the blue-black berries in the summer. The blueberry is also called bilberry, whortleberry, or huckleberry. A tincture of its leaves has been used traditionally as a remedy for dysentery and diarrhea. An extract can be applied to burn emergencies, scalds, and eczema lesions. It has also been used as a preventative for urinary tract infections, for circulation problems, and to lower elevated blood sugar. Blueberries have been known to improve arterial function; they support the eyes and protect the brain. In experiments with rats that were served a diet rich in blueberries, the rats demonstrated improved spatial memory and suffered less age-related loss of nerve cells. Because they are among those foods highest in pesticide residues, organic blueberries should be eaten whenever possible. Just which of these nutrients or characteristic uses would constitute the “property” to which the Cayce reading was referring? Increased attention nowadays is placed on the presence of antioxidants in foods, so could the “property” be the anthocyanin that is a potent component of the blueberry? Or possibly could it be something else? Perhaps time, one day, will tell. Nevertheless, the blueberry would make a nutritional addition to anyone’s diet.

ASpiritual sk Sage Woman: Advice

for the Real World with Sage Woman

Dear Sage Woman, I am going through a very difficult time in my life and am overwhelmed by negativity and negative thoughts. How do I get out of my own way? Laura D. _____________ Blessings to you Laura, Noticing negative thoughts is important; it means you are becoming aware of your emotional guidance system. An emotional guidance system helps us know how we are feeling in any particular moment. Once we are aware of our feelings, we are better able to guide your thoughts in a direction that make you feel better. When I notice I am going down a path of negative thinking, I immediately send blessings and gratitude to each of those thoughts. I create a list of exactly what I am feeling. Once my list is complete, I think through each one and write down any gift, lesson or positive experience I can muster up. Sometimes when negativity seems too much to bear and I cannot find meaningful gifts, I simply write about my gratitude for being alive to be experiencing this situation. Gratitude is the elixir of life. When we find gratitude in each and every experience, we lift our vibration to attracting more of what we are in gratitude for. Even in the midst of our negativity, when we find gratitude, we begin shifting our feelings away from the negative issue and begin to bring in a feeling of positivity. We have power over our feelings at all times. We may not be able to control a person, place or thing, yet how we choose to experience these things determines how we act or react. Remember, “like attracts like,” and as your vibration starts to shift into a more positive direction you will start to repel negative people and situations. No one

8

can be responsible for your happiness. Your own true happiness must come from within. One of the practices I do every morning when I wake up is to say out loud, “today I choose happiness, success and peace.” I give thanks for my blessings several times a day. This consistency keeps me in the flow of gratitude and positive feelings. The most beautiful gift we have been given as a human being is the gift of free will. Laura, you have the birthright to choose shifting your energy by each thought, word and action. As humans we experience the full range of emotions to which we attach positive or negative sensation. As we begin seeing this life as simply an experience we chose much earlier - from spirit - we then can release the need to always place definitions on experiences. When we begin to see life as a gift and stay in the present, focusing on the good, we change the entire vibration of what we externally experience. As within, so without. Send gratitude to the good and the bad, the positive and the negative and watch the mystery of Spirit move mountains. I send you joy, happiness and love! Even with all this technology, we still find it important to read the signs: closed lanes or roads, construction areas, rest stops, speed changes, exit signs, and street names. On our spiritual journey, we also read the signs and know what each one means: trouble ahead, detour, construction—slow down, exit signs—perhaps it’s time to leave this spiritual path and travel a different route, and of course, street signs that let us know where we are. We call our spiritual destination Home. Getting there is all about reading the signs and making the necessary course corrections when we get off track. We can get there via the shortest route, the quickest route, or by the scenic route. Why be in a hurry? Relax and enjoy the ride. Eventually, we’ll all find our way Home.

It wasn’t until I donned a clerical collar that I came to understand how people viewed religious leaders differently. Some were comforted by my presence while others seemed ill at ease. “Before long I realized that many had been damaged through judgment, guilt, rejection, and condemnation by a religion or by someone religious. I’m happy to report that these people do not have to languish in fear, depression, or resentment. “In Every Path Leads Home, Wayne Holmes has created a brilliant and very gentle way out of religious abuse and intolerance into peace, happiness, and personal freedom. “It is a way to heal us all. –Rev. Every Path Leads Home:

Before the advent of the Global Positioning System (GPS), travelers had to rely on maps and street signs to find their destination. Even with the use of the GPS method we still look for signs that verify our course changes, corrections, and exits. Navigational systems continue to improve and we now can plot a course and arrive where we want via the shortest route as measured by distance or the quickest route as measured by time. In addition we can add stops along the way for nourishment, entertainment, or rest.

The Little-Known Path to

Transforming Your Life Quickly by Brian Eastman

So some part of your life isn’t working satisfactorily and you decide you want to change it. Then you face a puzzle: What is the best way to start the transformation happening? This article explores three paths to achieving change. Two are well-known, the third is little-known but incredibly effective. Path 1: Many people adopt the strategy of attending seminars, workshops and training sessions. They work with life and career coaches. Others use books, CDs and on-line courses. This might be regarded as comparable to gathering guidebooks and hotel directories before starting on a journey. But one difficulty trips up many educationseekers/life travelers. You must put information into action for results. This requires willpower to change the behavioral and thinking habits which caused unwanted results – difficult to achieve and maintain. Path 2: This path believes that if you change your conscious mind’s thoughts, the problem will disappear. People seek to accomplish this by using spoken, written or meditated affirmations. Usually people try to install these affirmations by repeating a statement many times. This path presents a major difficulty. It is trying to transform a person’s life by changing the conscious mind, which has only minor control over where one’s life is headed. Using the conscious mind for transformation is like changing the car’s paint colour and the steering wheel cover. The car might look better, but that isn’t going to help you get where you want to go. The subconscious part of you, like the computer in a self-driving car, is actually the most in control of what your life experience looks like and feels like. Yes, you can change your conscious thinking

10

patterns using the above techniques, but your conscious mind will always have to struggle against where the subconscious mind has you headed. Path 3: The least-known, fastest and simplest path - The subconscious serves as both your GPS and your life’s automated steering mechanism. The subconscious is the computer that runs the “Internal Operating Software” which determines a person’s life trajectory. To change from a life which consistently falls short of one’s hopes to a life which exceeds those hopes, one must modify the operating software. This involves changing the “Belief Statements” in the software. For example, a person with the Belief Statement Life continually disappoints my hopes will have much less happiness than the person with Life continually surprises me with happy experiences. Very few healing processes effectively re-write subconscious Belief Statements. I know of Neuro-Modulation Technique (NMT), Psych-K and LIIFT. Each of these three processes enables very quick changes in a person’s Internal Operating Software. LIIFT, for instance, installs from eight to twelve new Belief Statements in one session, and once the Belief Statements are installed, changes in life experience occur very quickly. Sometimes visible results occur less than an hour after a session. Paths 1 and 2 cannot claim that. Do you know someone who feels dissatisfied with some part of their life? Suggest that they look up a practitioner to explore the possibilities for transforming their life for the better. If they need assistance to find a practitioner, suggest they contact the author below for recommendations.

Global Enlightenment by Jill Mattson

The Buddhists describe enlightenment as a final blessed state marked by the absence of desire or suffering. Enlightenment elevates awareness and consciousness, producing improvements on all levels. When you abide in harmonious, “enlightening energies” for a sustained period of time, you make better choices and master your emotions, despite challenging circumstances. Enlightening energies open intuition and awaken psychic abilities. Enlightenment strengthens your own personal power, while keeping your body healthy into old age. There are countless benefits. Enlightenment is something everyone wants – no matter what their beliefs are. Enlightenment occurs with individuals, but also for countries, groups and ultimately the entire world. The enlightenment of the world can be compared to the board game of Risk, in which each player attempts to dominate a world map. Risk players have different colored game pieces that they place on countries.

Whoever gets the most pieces (representing countries) wins the game. If the game board is covered with blue pieces, then blue wins and red loses. There is no struggle between good and evil – it simply is a game of amassing quantities of colored game pieces. This is a good analogy to see how the Earth gets her predominant frequency. Everyone “votes” on the overall frequency of the Earth, with their day-today choices – and simply by who they are. People continuously create frequencies by their thoughts, actions and feelings. The Earth’s fundamental frequency equates to the average frequency of everything. The largest quantity of frequency becomes the “dominant song” that the masses entrain to. The world-pool-of-vibrations can be likened to an impersonal game with the largest quantities of vibrations dominating. The greater volume of one frequency overcomes or entrains another. So we

must ponder: what are the vibrations that the world entrains to today? The vibrations in our music changes people’s frequencies. What are you listening to? When you pray for people in a war torn area, your prayer is like adding a small colored piece on the Risk game board. When you pray in song form (a mantra or a hymn), you place a large game board piece into play. Sound amplifies the power of your prayers and intentions. In Estonia, a small Eastern European country, I met Mara, who told me about a song festival changed the lives of the Estonians. The Estonians had been horribly-treated-slaves for hundreds of years. They were demoralized and broken. When the Russian Czars fell from power, the Estonians saw their chance for freedom from Russia, but did not have the courage to seize the opportunity. In a country of a million people, half a million sang together 24 hours a day for five days. They created energy and unity that restored their wills, determination and spirits. Mara credited their country’s courage and resulting freedom to the energy its people ingested from the song festival. Later Hitler seized Poland; in response Russia overpowered Estonia. Under Stalin’s ownership a large number of the people were randomly sent to Siberia on a daily basis. Most died. Can you imagine worrying if you are or a loved one would be randomly sent to a death camp every night? Later Hitler conquered part of Estonia. Both Russians and Germans forced the Estonians to fight for their side. The Estonians fought against each other, with brothers killing brothers and father killing sons. This instilled shame, once again breaking the spirit of the people. After World War II, the USSR occupation created harsh conditions, little food, few jobs and severe lack of housing, but plenty of fear. This terrible negativity added up and the people were “broken” again. When the USSR collapsed, the Estonian people had no courage to gain their freedom and no will to fight. Once again the Estonian people came together with a song-festival for five days, with a half of million people attending. Mara attended this song festival; it changed her and she will never be the same. Shortly afterwards the Estonian people gained their freedom, crediting their courage to the energy created by their

songs. To this day the Estonian people hold a week long song-festival every five years to harmonize, unite and empower themselves. Music was successfully used for national transformation and enlightenment! The influence of vibrations works both ways; outside energies influence you and your vibrations influence others. Everything about you (thoughts, feeling, actions and health) is part of the global vibrational energy pool. The stronger vibration overcomes the lessor. So what is your contribution to the global energy pool? This can be a scary analogy as we are all less than perfect. Our shortfalls and low energy dips are not just ours, they drag others down too. However, there is great beauty in this analogy as well. You matter; your thoughts, feeling and actions can tip the balance of power. You don’t have to change the world, you have to uplift yourself and this is powerful. The entire country of Estonia was emotional flat lined. Singing from half of its population for a week transformed and uplifted the entire country – with profound and lasting impacts. This powerful makeover for an entire country was accomplished with the proper use of music. Simply by listening to uplifting music (a lot) or singing (it doesn’t matter if you are a good singer or not), you amplify positive frequencies. You become a megaphone to shower uplifting energies everywhere in your vicinity! Listening to uplifting music can benefit so many, while you use no will power nor even attention. You can even listen when you sleep. So what are you waiting for? There is about an hour or divine energy music free at www. JillsWingsOfLight.com!

BTestimonial aker Chiropractic My Migraine Headaches Have Finally Been Cured After 20 Years! I Went from Denying Chiropractic Claims to Becoming an Advocate

to some other doctor and they would put me on a prescription and the results were endless. I was talking to Mrs. Courtney and she asked me if I would go to Dr. Baker with her just to see what he did. I was so skeptical because I used to process claims back in the day and chiropractors were not considered doctors of health. So I was denying claims left and right. After being there Dr. Baker told me that he could help me. Well of course this sounded great. I was impressed with the wellness care and no medicine was involved. I went for the treatment plan and was amazed how much my spine was out of line. I started to go and to my surprise I was able to see (I mean that the pain had me all fogged up). Everything looked clearer than I could imagine. The migraine was not as severe as before. And I was heading towards improvement.

Catherine and Dr. Patrick Baker “I went from being an insurance adjuster denying chiropractic claims to becoming an advocate for chiropractic care. My migraine headaches have finally been cured after 20 years! I was asked to see Dr. Baker by Mrs. Renee Courtney (Pitts). I was experiencing severe migraines for the last I’ll say 20 years. In 1997 they were the worse I had ever had. I was on several medicines and decided to get off them cold turkey. Of course the doctor tells you not to do this. So please don’t go cold turkey. I got very ill. But to this day I do not take all that medicine any longer. I do still experience the migraines. In 2010, I was fainting while driving and they thought I was having seizures. So the Dr. had tests ran and put me on medication even though the tests would be negative. Then I would faint sitting at my desk and now they would send me to a heart specialist and they put me on medication as well, test still negative. Every time that I would faint I would be referred

Well then Dr. Baker went on vacation. The headache came right back. You see I was not getting the treatment while he was gone. Now I can say that the adjustments I am receiving is truly helping me. I look forward to getting the adjustments and feeling better. I only talk about what I know and I know that the adjustments really work for me. I will tell every person I know that is having pain to at least think about what the medicine is doing to your body. If you can have an adjustment and not put a foreign object in your body than take the latter. Now it has been over a year and I feel great the headaches only comes back if I am not receiving the proper adjustments to keep my body in line. I look forwarding to see everyone in the office. It has been an amazing journey. I love going where I can talk about the Lord and seeing what God is doing in this practice. I have seen people literally get out of wheel chairs and return to walking. Look at God operating in Dr. Baker and his practice to do his work.

It is spring. It is a time of new life; rebirth. We celebrate by planting flowers, hiding Easter eggs, cleaning our houses, jump-starting our New Year’s resolutions. This spring I find myself somehow in the middle‌not really a fresh start and still, somehow, not at an endpoint. Last fall, as I walked across the street in my neighborhood, a car hit me, fracturing my leg in four places. I spent four months out of work and in rehab. I returned to work in January and have continued to do physical therapy since then. I will continue to be in therapy, self-directed, and still very necessary, until September. I sit and look at my yard and the disaster my gardens became while I lay in a bed unable to walk. I look around my house at three unfinished projects that require more energy than I have at the end of my long work days. I have so much to do and yet my body has many limitations, some of which, may become rather permanent. I also think of my many years in the non-profit sector and working as a chef. I loved that work; tilting at windmills; trying to make the world a better place even as a chef. I bought local seasonal products, and tried to make purchases that supported food and land justice as well as sustainable agricultural practices. Currently, I have a wonderful job. I work for a small family owned company. They responsibly source their foods. They take great care of their employees. I know, first hand about that. I don’t really tilt at windmills anymore but I do make people happy. The work I do brings a smile to kids of all ages. We

make memories for families and help create life-long celebration traditions. I talked with my sister about my feelings with respect to no longer being a champion of causes. She told me all of life is filled with seasons. She said that we all face times and changes. She told me that my season as a warrior may be past. She said that perhaps this is a season to take care of myself, my many war wounds. She said perhaps it is time just for me and my family. She also said that perhaps I am just drifting midseason, waiting for what is next while healing and resting.

with being in the moment and taking care of me and my family. I am drifting mid-season like a dandelion seed on the wind. Who knows where I will land and what comes next. It is an exciting place to be.

I like the idea of expectancy. I often think about during the spring. I think about how we all wait and wish for the return of warm weather. So, this spring, I do not feel as if I am in a place of renewal. I feel like I am still waiting for what comes next. The return of physical ability; finding a new passion; or just making peace

Cherries

Bada Bing, Bada Boom!

Choosing cherries this season is a smart and healthy way to enjoy the benefits of this amazing little fruit. They can be sweet or tart, depending on the variety. The most common ones that can be found fresh from the supermarket are known as Bing Cherries. Cherries have been known as a powerful antiinflammatory fruit that can prevent free radical damage. The Arthritis foundation recommends drinking tart cherry juice every day for a reduction in pain and inflammation for those who suffer with arthritis. It is important to note that it is the tart cherry that delivers the highest anti-inflammatory content of any food. To support healthy sleep and body regeneration, drinking cherry juice can help to increase your melatonin levels which can ensure peaceful and restful sleep cycles.

18

Sweet cherries contain fiber, vitamin C and cancer preventing compounds that act as antioxidants. One of these compounds is Cyanidin. It is an important free radical scavenger that fights against cancer cells. Cherries have a low glycemic index making them a perfect snack for diabetics and can even reduce belly fat. They can boost your memory and help to ward off Alzheimers disease. High in potassium, cherries can reduce the risk of heart disease, lowering cholesterol levels and regulating heart rate and blood pressure.Research studies have shown that cherries prevent muscle damage and soothe aching muscles after a good workout. To add cherries to your regular diet, you can pick up cherries (usually Bing variety) when they are in

45 for Healthy Adults Used a Cell Phone 50 Minutes – What Happened? by Dr. Joeseph Mercola For several years, doctors, scientists and activists have been raising concerns about the possible connection between cell phones and brain cancer. And recent research by scientists at NIH and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory conclusively determined that a cell phone’s electromagnetic field can indeed cause changes in brain activity. CNN reports: “Brain activity means that the cells are using glucose to create energy ... Compared with subjects whose phones were turned off, the group whose phones were on had ‘significantly higher’ brain activity in the area closest to the telephone antenna.” Time Magazine lists five simple ways to reduce your exposure to cell phone radiation: • Use a wired headset - This keeps the antenna far away from your skull. • Get used to texting - Texting also keeps the handset away from your brain, reducing the radiation risk. • Don’t use your cell phone as an alarm clock - If you use your phone as your wake-up call, you’ll likely need to keep it close to your head; there’s still radiation being emitted even when it’s not taking calls. • Don’t carry your phone in your pocket - There’s preliminary research to indicate that men who carry a phone in their pocket all day could be putting their fertility at risk, and women who carry their phones in their bra could be increasing their risk of breast cancer. • Use a radiation-blocking case - These can reduce cell phone radiation by two-thirds. These are all important precautions, especially since the recent study by leading brain imaging researcher Nora D. Volkow, MD et al— one funded by the US government and led by one of “Top 100 People Who Shape Our World” (2007) according to Time —has found that cell phone use does affect your brain. After just 50 minutes on a cell phone, the emitted radiation increases the activity in your brain cells, the study found. The exact effects of that brain activity are as of yet unknown. But the study in effect has debunked the myth that cell phone radiation at non-thermal levels

20

does not cause biological changes, as the SAR exposure involved was only .901 W/Kg, well under the FCC limit of 1.6 W/Kg for cell phones. The study has also raised the specter that if acute cell phone radiation is impacting glucose in the brain, an established marker of brain activity, might it also be impacting neurotransmitters and other brain biochemistry? Chronic elevated glucose levels in the brain is, of course, also of concern, and is currently being investigated by Volkow. Scientists are now calling for urgent research on effects on the brain from cell phone radiation, previously believed in orthodox circles to have no effect. They are also calling for reinstatement of federal funding for bioelectromagnetics research, which dried up in the mid-1990s as government facilitated the roll out of cellular infrastructure across the country. Dr. Ronald Herberman, former Director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, says, “We know that increased glucose also occurs with infections and other inflammatory processes, and leads to the production of potentially damaging reactive oxygen radicals that can alter the ways that cells and genes work. This important finding should stimulate many biologists to perform in-depth studies to determine the consequences of such changes in nerve cells or other bodily cells in the region of the radiation. We need to develop a better understanding of how radiofrequency radiation might contribute to increased risk for brain tumors as well as other alterations in brain functions.” David Carpenter, MD, Director of the Institute for Health and the Environment, University of Albany, has called the NIH study ‘dynamite’. He says it will now be hard to deny that cell phones alter nervous system activity. However, Louis Slesin of Microwave News cautions, “For decades, the microwave community has been awash with reports that low-level radiation can lead to numerous neurological effects, such as leakage through the blood-brain barrier, changes in calcium in and around brain cells and DNA breaks in the brains of exposed animals. But in each case skeptics have countered that they could not repeat the experiments and therefore the original work must have been flawed and should be repudiated. Volkow’s new study will no doubt face a similar barrage of criticism.”

Apr / May 2017

Slesin, a long time, well-respected expert in this field, also noted he learned, “The closing sentence of original version of the JAMA paper advised cell phone users to keep the antenna away from the brain by using a wired earpiece. This was edited out in the review/revision process.” So, while it is encouraging a respected journal such as JAMA has published on this topic, and also issued a press release about the research, we must all realize there could still be interests wanting to downplay the importance of the finding for cell phone users.

Use a Land Line at Home and at Work: Although more and more people are switching to using cell phones as their exclusive phone contact, it is a dangerous trend and you can choose to opt out of the madness.

The Volkow study was the first to look at how electromagnetic radiation from cell phones affects glucose metabolism in the brain. When glucose metabolism goes up, it activates cells. Many scientists believe this may provide insight into the biochemical process leading to increased incidence of brain tumors in heavy cell phone users.

Use Your Cell Phone Only Where Reception is Good: The weaker the reception, the more power your phone must use to transmit, and the more power it uses, the more radiation it emits, and the deeper the dangerous radio waves penetrate into your body. Ideally, you should only use your phone with full bars and good reception.

Based on the NIH research, Mayor Mark Barron and the City Council of Jackson, WY last week initiated a cell phone safety awareness program in schools for students in grades K-12. Jackson is the first town in America to take specific action to protect schoolchildren from microwave radiation. Mayor Barron states “Given the extraordinary acceleration of cell phone use by our school children and the seeming social acceptance of placing this powerful tool next to our head, it is only prudent to address the issue at this time.” Please Protect Yourself, and Your Family, Starting Today All the evidence points to the fact that our current safety standards are completely inadequate. Our rapidly expanding wireless technologies must be properly evaluated, first of all, and the precautionary principle must be invoked when new technologies emerge. While you can’t completely avoid radiation in today’s wireless world, you can at least minimize your exposure by heeding the following advice: Children Should Always Avoid Using Cell Phones: Barring a life-threatening emergency, children should not use a cell phone, or a wireless device of any type. Children are far more vulnerable to cell phone radiation than adults, because of their thinner skull bones. Reduce Your Cell Phone Use: Turn your cell phone off more often. Reserve it for emergencies or important matters. As long as your cell phone is on, it emits radiation intermittently, even when you are not actually making a call.

Infinity

Reduce or Eliminate Your Use of Other Wireless Devices: You would be wise to cut down your use of these devices. Just as with cell phones, it is important to ask yourself whether or not you really need to use them every single time.

Also seek to avoid carrying your phone on your body as that merely maximizes any potential exposure. Ideally put it in your purse or carrying bag. Placing a cell phone in a shirt pocket over the heart is asking for trouble, as is placing it in a man’s pocket if he seeks to preserve his fertility.(See ElectromagneticHealth.org’s Letter to Parents on Fertility and Other Risks to Children from Wireless Technologies) Don’t Assume One Cell Phone is Safer Than Another. There’s no such thing as a “safe” cell phone. Keep Your Cell Phone Away From Your Body When it is On: The most dangerous place to be, in terms of radiation exposure, is within about six inches of the emitting antenna. You do not want any part of your body within that area. If you are in a meeting, on public transportation, in a courtroom or other public places, such as a doctor’s office, keep your cell phone turned off out of consideration for the ‘second hand radiation’ effects. Children are also more vulnerable, so please avoid using your cell phone near children. Use Safer Headset Technology: Wired headsets will certainly allow you to keep the cell phone farther away from your body. However, if a wired headset is not wellshielded -- and most of them are not -- the wire itself acts as an antenna attracting ambient information carrying radio waves and transmitting radiation directly to your brain. Make sure that the wire used to transmit the signal to your ear is shielded. The best kind of headset to use is a combination shielded wire and air-tube headset. These operate like a stethoscope, transmitting the information (Continued on pg. 22)

21

(Continued from pg. 21) to your head as an actual sound wave; although there are wires that still must be shielded, there is no wire that goes all the way up to your head. I strongly urge you to take the above precautions to reduce your risk and the risk to your children, who are even more vulnerable to long-term damage. I also invite you to help raise awareness by sharing this information with your loved ones. Twith ransform Your Relationship Your Pets by Cindy Huff & Terri Noftsger

Spring is a time of renewal, of new beginnings and possibilities. We have fresh energy and fresh perspectives, and we are ready to move forward. The introspection time is over, the time for action is here. We see transformation all around us – the grass is suddenly that beautiful vibrant green, plants are sprouting, baby bunnies are appearing, the robins are here … you get the idea.

When you walk into the house or barn, how does your pet respond? How do you react?

Spring can also be a time when we can start over with a fresh beginning in our lives, and specifically in our relationships. It is an opportunity to consider how we relate to each other, including how we relate to our animals. To get you started, answer these questions about your interactions with each of your animal companions (dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, horses, guinea pigs, etc.):

Do you talk out loud to your pet, and if so, is it just to tell them what to do/not do?

24

During the course of the day, do you take time to stop and interact with your pet? During the course of the day, do you feel connection with your pet? Do you sense how s/he is feeling?

What is your pet’s favorite game to play? Do you play with your pet? The first question is really asking you if you stop and acknowledge your pet when you come in the

Apr / May 2017

door. Do you see them, interact with them before you get busy with chores, dinner, etc.? For our dogs in particular, we are an essential member of their pack, and they wait for us to connect with them. It is very important for our dogs and house cats that we do that when we come home, when we get ready to go to bed, when we leave. I even make sure I acknowledge my horse as soon as I walk in the barn, before I get busy doing things. Don’t underestimate birds or reptiles either – at some level they too want connection with us. Taking the time during the day to really focus on your pet – even if it is for 5 minutes – makes all the difference in the world to them. That time can be sitting with them and petting them, or playing with them, or talking with them. The key is to be fully present with them, focused on them. Dogs, cats, and horses love to play. Each has their own unique favorite game. With our dog Lukas it is sometimes enough that we SEE that he has his bone. When we acknowledge it, he growls and throws it up in the air, and wags his tail madly. My horse loves it when I get out the big green ball and she pushes it all over the arena. Simba, our indoor cat, loves it when we get a feather toy out and make it dance for him … he is a great hunter. Our iguana didn’t play, but she did enjoy it when you said her name, and she also liked to lay next to us on the floor. Another way to acknowledge your pets is to acknowledge and appreciate their devotion to your family, and the jobs that they do. For example, is your cat the “watcher” for the household? If so, notice that praise them when they do that. Is your dog constantly in our home office when you work? Tell them that you really appreciate their company. Our dogs are learning “time to go to work” and will head upstairs with me to my home office in the mornings. Does one of your dogs or cats notice when you are down and come and sit with you or on you? Does your cat suddenly interrupt your work by jumping up on your desk between you and your monitor to get you to take a much needed break? Acknowledge that with a pat and a thank you. Tell them, they sense the feeling of appreciation and

love from you as you tell talk with them; it’s not important that they understand every word you say. Animals, like us, have varying emotions. Sometimes they have days when they are joyful, sad, bored, energetic, or anxious. It’s easy to miss that, because we unconsciously expect them to be the same every day for some reason. I am especially aware of that with my horse. The horse I left at the barn yesterday may be very different than the horse I encounter today. She can be grumpy, calm, playful, connected, affectionate, or totally introverted. To stay safe, I have to pay attention and work with who she is that day. Our animals are very aware of our physical and emotional state, and we need to pay attention to theirs as well. Take a few minutes and think about each one of your pets. Ask yourself the questions above, and make a commitment to improve your relationship with each pet through connection and focused time each day. They offer us unconditional love, acceptance, and trust. Learn what makes them happy, what is important to them, and offer a little of that each day to them.

Happy Spring!

Longevity Resources Discovering Optimal Health Naturally

Welcome to our newest feature, “Longevity Resources.” Each issue we will cover topics that will explore endless possibilities in achieving optimal health. We are honored to feature one of own past writers, Dr. Paul Fulk (1935-2014). The article written below is just one of many he had written over the years. He was a true pioneer in the field of alternative health and nutrition. The statements or content of the article in this feature is strictly to educate and inform. It is not intended to replace the care and advice of your regular physician.

The Risks of MSG Is this silent killer lurking in your kitchen cabinets? A widespread and silent killer that is worse for your health than alcohol, nicotine and many drugs is likely lurking in your kitchen cabinets right now. “It” is monosodium glutamate (MSG) a flavor enhancer that’s known widely as an addition to Chinese food, but that’s actually added to thousands of foods you and your family regularly eat, especially if you are like most Americans and eat the majority of your food as processed foods or in restaurants. MSG is one if the worst food additives on the market and is used in canned soups, crackers, meats, salad dressings, frozen dinners and much more. It is found in your local supermarket and restaurants, in your child’s school cafeteria and amazingly, even in baby food and infant formula. MSG is more than just a seasoning like salt and pepper, it actually enhances the flavor of foods, making processed meats and frozen dinners taste fresher and smell better, salad dressings more tasty, canned foods less tinny. While MSG benefits the food industry is quite clear, this food additive could be slowly and silently doing major damage to your health.

many decades prior to this, in 1908, that monosodium glutamate was invented. The inventor was Kikunae Ikeda, a Japanese man who identified the natural flavor enhancing substance of seaweed. Excitotoxicity is the pathological process by which nerve cells are damaged and killed by excessive stimulation of neurotransmitters such as glutamate and similar substances. This occurs when receptors for the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate is over activated by a glutmateric storm. This excitability happens when a high level of glutamate is ingested. This excitotoxicity may be involved in spinal cord injury, stroke, traumatic brain injury, hearing loss (through noise overexposure or ototoxicity) and in neurodegenerative diseases of the central nervous system such as multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease etc. Other common conditions that cause excessive glutamate concentrations around the neurons are hypoglycemia and status epileticus. It does not give the use of MSG a very good picture, but it continues to be used particularly by oriental restaurants as a final addition to your food. Your food could be bad tasting, but MSG will make it taste good, regardless. Besides the excitatory characteristics of MSG, it is one item that should be avoided by those who are looking to keep their sodium intake down. If you are eating out, request that no MSG be added to your food and that you should not eat anything that already has MSG in it. Copyright 2014 Paul F. Fulk, D.C., F. A. S. A.
