RV Road Trip – Part 2: Napa We had three fabulous nights overlooking the Pacific Ocean at the Malibu RV Park. It was a pleasure to stay in one spot for a while and enjoy

the RV life. Much of our time was spent with my son, Ari, and son-in-law, David, who were living in Santa Monica at the time. We enjoyed an afternoon of visiting the Santa Monica Pier and kicking back at the beach for the ocean air and sea breezes. Early Sunday morning, we embarked on our drive to Napa. Now the boys could experience the road in an RV firsthand. The drive is about six and a half hours from Malibu to Napa. We got an early start to make our first tasting at Domaine Carneros, located just outside of Napa. On our way, we stopped at a roadside papusa stand for wonderful flatbreads filled with beans and cheese. Besides almost running out of gas, panicking and taking the wrong exit at a toll road, we had a leisurely drive. National Lampoon’s Vacation not! Our first sip of the day was sparkling wine. Domaine
Spring Splendor 2022
Carneros is renowned as a small grower-producer of methode traditionelle sparkling and estate Pinot Noir. The views from the chateau are breathtaking, as are the formal gardens. We each enjoyed their grande tasting, a mixture of sparkling wine and Pinot Noir. We added the caviar flight featuring three different caviars and served with blinis, potato chips and creme fraiche. Delicious! We made our way to downtown Napa where we had rented an adorable yellow Farmhouse through Airbnb. It was walking distance to the shops and restaurants and had space to park our RV. After unpacking, I took a long, hot shower! It was the first “normal” shower of our trip. I strategically placed an Airbnb and hotel in the rest of our itinerary. I highly suggest including them for a two week RV trip! Yes, there is a shower in the RV, but ours had to be converted into a wine cellar. The RV parks also have great bathrooms with showers which suited Ray just fine. For dinner during our first evening in Napa, we visited Tarla Mediterranean Grill. After a nice stroll into town, we had a wonderful meal, which included an array of tapas and small plates. The night also included stuffed eggplant with caramelized onion-red pepper, California chickpea rice and tomato sauce and a Greek dip trio of hummus, baba ganoush, tzatziki, pita and olives. We had lots of great wine and conversation. Our group truly loved being able to walk back to our place, enjoying the night air and starry sky. This was the first trip to Napa for Ari, David and Ray. Besides Domain Carneros, I planned visits to wineries that would be new for us all. We had an entire day to enjoy an array of wine and experiences. On our list was Auburn James, Beringer and Walt Wines. Auburn James was our first stop. They are located on the Silverado Trail South in St. Helena nestled between the Napa River and the Napa Valley Preserve. The experience was such a treat. Specializing in small lots of Bordeaux style Napa wines, Auburn James is more of a boutique winery, designated specifically for the Auburn James wine club membership. My two favorite bottles are the
Infinity
2016 “1001” Napa Valley Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve and the 2017 Auburn James Pinot Noir Yorkville Highlands Reserve. I did join their wine club that day and happily stocked our makeshift “wine cellar” in the RV. They have a beautiful cottage-like tasting room and our host, Eric, is amazing. We ended up staying a couple of hours and truly got to know the wines and the winery. Next stop was Gott’s Roadside. Every trip I make to Napa, Gott’s is a must for lunch. I like to visit the original location in Saint Helena. If you ever go to Napa this needs to be on your itinerary. They are the best burgers ever! The menu is vast, including every type of burger you could imagine. My favorite is the western bacon blue ring. It consists of a beerbattered onion ring, Point Reyes crumbled blue cheese, bacon, pickles, red onion & BBQ sauce on a toasted egg bun. The Vietnamese Chicken salad is the bomb. Consisting of romaine lettuce, kale and shredded cabbage tossed with cucumbers, carrots, cilantro, mint and peanut lime vinaigrette, the salad is topped with crispy fried chicken breast, pickled red Fresno chilis and green onions. For the more adventurous, try the ahi poke crispy tacos: ahi poke (Hawaiian-style, raw marinated, sushi grade ahi tuna), sliced avocado, green cabbage and cilantro slaw, green onions, toasted sesame seeds with spicy mayo in crispy taco shells! Aloha! Grab a glass of wine, a cold beer, or one of their famous hand spun shakes made with organic ice cream to go along with your meal. No one will be left hungry. The iconic Beringer Vineyard was next on the list. Beringer is the oldest continuously operating winery in Napa Valley, with a winemaking tradition dating back more than 142 years. Beringer was the first winery in the valley to offer public tours and remains on the top of a savvy visitor’s list of places to tour and taste. The Rhine house mansion has stunning stained glass windows and historic architecture. We did the legacy indoor tasting which included four wines from their current collection of limited released wines only available

at the winery. We also enjoyed a walk around the beautiful gardens and estate. Our last stop of the day was a wine and chocolate pairing at Walt Napa’s Oxbow tasting room in the historic Oxbow district. Our tasting included five different wines featuring their single vineyard chardonnay and single vineyard pinot noirs and chocolate pairings from Kollar Chocolates. What a great way to end our afternoon. Our dinner reservation was not until 8pm that night, so once we got back to our farmhouse, it was time to kick back and relax. Naps were taken, books read and journals written in, all with some lovely jazz playing in the background. It was pure heaven. My suggestion when visiting Napa is to do no more than three tastings in a day. Plan for some down time and enjoy other activities besides wine tasting, if you have time. Some cool suggestions range from horseback riding, spa treatments, balloon rides, hiking on the Oathill Mine Trail, a cooking class or climbing aboard the Napa Valley Wine Train. Of course there are tons of shopping opportunities, including art galleries, to explore from Yountville to Calistoga. During our last night, we had dinner at Grace’s Table. It was suggested by our gracious host at Auburn James. It did not disappoint. Grace’s Table is a cheerful Napa bistro serving dishes inspired from around the world. Chef/owner Mauro And created a “global kitchen” with a focus on the comfort foods from many heritages. We were once again within walking distance to our restaurant and, despite a slight chill in the air, we relished the invigorating walk to and from. This dinner was spectacular! We started with iron skillet cornbread with lavender honey butter, as well as Argentinian empanadas of beef, currants, olive, hard egg and Chimichurri sauce. I had potato gnocchi with gorgonzola dolce cream, walnuts, Bloomsdale spinach and pomegranate reggiano parmesan. Ray had the southwest tamale which had pulled pork shoulder, green chili, black beans jack cheese, chili lime slaw, cilantro dressing and cascabel chili sauce.
6
Ari chose the roasted heirloom chicken with autumn vegetable quinoa and wild rice pilaf. Alongside was a butternut squash, parsnip root, English pea tendrils, dried cranberry and red verjus pan sauce. Lastly, David ordered the cassoulet, my favorite! Duck confit, pork shoulder, boudin blanc sausage, garlic sausage, butter beans, garlic and bread crumbs. So you should be hungry now! This trip was all about the food, wine and conversation! The Zen moment for me on this venture has to be our down time at the yellow farmhouse simply enjoying the company of Ray, David and Ari. I will throw in that long, hot shower as Zen moment number two! Stay tuned for part three of this road trip which will showcase our journey back to Texas with stops in Palm Springs, Sedona and Santa Fe. Spring Splendor 2022
Why Are Fireworks Harmful to Pets? by Maureen Hollmeyer Animals are gifts from heaven, who provide us with unconditional love, companionship, healing and lessons to be learned. Therefore, they should be treated as if they are one of our children who, in order to thrive, have safety and emotional needs. Below are four reasons they have severe reactions to fireworks. • Pets can hear four times further away than humans and they can hear up to 50,000 vibrations per second, whereas humans can only hear sounds that vibrate up to 20,000 vibrations per second. Their ears are extremely sensitive and can be damaged depending on their distance to the fireworks. • It effects their flight or fight response that is an automatic physiological reaction to an event that is perceived as stressful or frightening. The nervous system triggers a stress response that prepares the body to fight or flee. Their natural reaction is to run & hide, but this often puts them at greater risk. They are unable to determine where the noise is coming from and they soon become disoriented. • They don’t have the capacity to understand that fireworks are for human’s pleasure and that we love the colorful displays of awe & wonder. To animals, these are unnatural noises, sounds & flashes of light that are perceived as danger, which is true for our Veterans who experience PTSD from the war. • The unpredictable noises are identified as a threat. Most pets are aware of when a thunderstorm is coming, even hours away, due to the pressure change and wind although fireworks have no warning signs. The above is true related to zoo animals, horses and farm animals. Their nature is to be on high alert to protect themselves from danger. Therefore, we must properly take care of their needs; both physically and emotionally. There are a few suggestions to assist pets during these times such as; don’t leave them home alone and to keep them indoors. Physical touch is comforting or provide a safe place they can hide whether it’s in a covered crate, under a blanket or in a closet. Also, they can use a “Thundershirt” which provides
Infinity
relaxation to their pressure points and gives them the allusion of safety; as if they are being swaddled like a newborn baby. Another idea is to use CBD Oil or calming treats although often times it is a hit or miss depending on the individual pet, so testing ahead of time is required. Also, make sure they are wearing their collar and ID, this way you can contact the local shelters if they do run away. The last suggestion is to provide them with a Healing Touch for Animals session. As a certified practitioner, I did an experiment last year on nine dogs with different levels of anxiety & stress related to fireworks. I’m happy to report that none of them had any adverse reactions during the Fourth of July fireworks. The owners were amazed and the most anxious dog of them all slept right through the overwhelming noises! Healing Touch for Animals is energy work that assists pets with their emotions without medications. It balances their energy and it relaxes their muscles, releases anxiety, increases endorphins and most importantly, your pet becomes grounded, which limits their fear level and their likelihood to flee. The best thing you can do for your pet is to plan ahead in order to prevent them from harming themselves or others. Animals under distress are not able to rationalize their actions and may put themselves in harms way or cause other accidents. We would never let our children experience this frightening event by themselves, so why would we expect our pets to cope without our assistance too. For more information related to Healing Touch for Animals, contact the author, Maureen Hollmeyer who can either come to your home or provide a distance session. https://maureen-hollmeyer.com/

Balance and Harmony by Cynthia White Flower
Balance and harmony are key in nature, and are necessary for us to evolve. We are the Captains of our ship. What we think, say, do, radiates from us to create The Whole. We collectively make up this world. We are responsible. Balance and harmony are necessary for our evolution, both personally and collectively. Since we are here anyway, why not make our time count, and create and leave a legacy that makes our world a better place. Balance and harmony are key. Life shows us that they are here with us daily. A big, long, warm hug, an explosion of the taste of chocolate deliciousness, a smile that inspires us to smile… warms us to our very core. In that moment, life stands still and says “there is fulfillment.” In that moment, there is no pain or desire. Immersed in balance and harmony, we bask in that moment of peace. We are blessed with moments
8
of balance and harmony throughout out day. It is beautiful to recognize. To consciously create a life of balance and harmony is our goal. Nature shows us the system. The first ingredient is warmth. The love starts with the sun, The Creation’s joy, beaming its warmth upon us, melting snow, inspiring flowers, glistening upon our souls. This love penetrates our very reason for being. The sunlight radiates warmth. Warmth is love. Love is the driving force. Love motivates. Love empowers. Love inspires. Love calms us and brings us to a place of peace. We wait for our loved ones to arrive and when they do, a feeling of peace fills us. Anxiousness gives way to balance and harmony. Love is the glue that holds life together. It is the meaning and the leveling force. Love is the gas that fuels the tank. It is the peace that is in our hearts. Love is the reason.
Spring Splendor 2022
Nature shows us that the warmth grows. It buds, and then blossoms. How high can we take our love? There are mistakes in nature. Sometimes the buds freeze and it is harder for them to come back, but they do because Nature forgives. We must forgive as well. To know that we are all in pain is to realize that we each have a story. Daily we strive to do what is necessary. Nature shows us that it is necessary to forgive. We must forgive ourselves first. We must forgive ourselves for being in the situations that have brought us to where we are now. We must forgive others too. They are just providing the karma of what the Captain has dictated. I won’t go as far to say that we must thank them for helping us to live out the karma that we have created, but none the less, it is true. To forgive. To say, “I am here and I cannot go farther by holding onto the past,” is to take a step in the right direction of higher love, love of self and love of others. If we are carrying baggage, write it down. Burn it. Burn frankincense and cleanse. Forgive and move on. Let’s forgive and love anyway and take our love to a higher rung. Nature shows us that there is cooperation in every season. Nature bands together to produce. Cooperation is needed. Nature shows us that in order for us to be productive, we must get along. Hate is false. There is only oneness. Separation is an illusion. Whatever we create, we all benefit or not. To work together for a higher goal is to take our love higher. Cooperate is necessary. Nature never gives up. Year after year, she comes back to try again. We are taught to keep trying. Either we love, or we don’t. There is no middle road. Let us begin the process of balancing ourselves in a bath of harmony as the previews of spring blossoms into wonderful examples of renewal, regeneration and healing. Let’s bask in the harmony of the truth that we are all a part of The Whole and we have each other, we have only to reach out in love. Bless you my beloved family.

And I urge anyone reading this that does get migraines to give it a shot. It will really improve your quality of life, much more so than those triptans we all get when we tell our doctors that we get migraines. As if the migraine itself isn’t bad enough, we’re prescribed pills that only work some of the time and leave us in a sleepy haze for three days afterwards. No thanks. I’ll take a massage and an adjustment instead. At least then I know I’m treating the problem and not the symptom – as evidenced by the fact that I no longer get the migraines with any real frequency. And when I do get them, they are much less severe. I no longer take triptans to treat them. Or any prescription medicine, for that matter. Since I had been feeling so much better, I asked Dr. Baker to help me with stepping down off the antidepressant I had been prescribed three years ago because I had no lingering symptoms of depression. I felt like the meds were keeping me in a constant fog. He referred me to Dr. Theodore Cole at the Cole Center for Healing, and with their help, I was able to successfully step down off the medicine two months ago without any side effects, except a little weight loss.

LAre ife & Relationships All About Balance by Jody Johnston Pawel, LSW, CFLE Just as the seasons cycle in ways that bring the Earth into balance, so do the seasons of Life. From birth to adulthood, we evolve as physical, emotional and spiritual beings, going through cycles of renewal and regeneration. Children’s brain wave frequency is like that of an adult in a hypnotic state, between alpha and delta. This is why children are like little sponges, soaking up all they see, hear, feel and experience. Their prefrontal cortex doesn’t start developing until about ages six to nine (the “age of reason”), so their experiences are directly download into their subconscious minds without any filters or rationalizing. This is why children need good role models and adults who will nurture and guide them. Love is not all they need, and they won’t just figure out life all on their own!
12
The first year of life their survival brain is developing, so bonding and attachment is key. It’s the foundation of all further development. Then, during the toddler years, their emotional (limbic) brain is developing, which is why we see tantrums and “kid logic” that can’t be easily reasoned with. The prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for rational, critical thinking and responsible decisionmaking isn’t finished developing until age 25! So during the school years, adults play an important role in teaching, guiding and modeling for children. That’s how they learn. Parenting research tells us there are five parenting styles. Two are overly controlling: the most extreme being harsh and punishing. The less extreme seems to
Spring Splendor 2022
“work,” by using positive and negative reinforcers and consequences. Because they are exclusively external motivators, however, they eventually become counter-productive, plus these methods are easy to misuse to manipulate through guilt and bribes. The other extreme parenting styles are also ineffective but by being too permissive. The most extreme style is to disengage from the child, allowing them to just “figure out” life. This can result in neglect, dependency, and children who might develop survival skills out of necessity, to adapt, but whose brains don’t develop completely because they were stuck in survival mode for too long. The less extreme permissive parenting style is overindulging children, catering to them, rescuing them, and making sure they never experience hardship. Long-term research shows this style results in children who believe they are entitled, rules don’t apply to them, and their brains haven’t developed a sense of right and wrong because they’ve never been held accountable. So guess what parenting style long-term research says is most effective? “Balanced” parenting. Although Parents Toolshop® first coined that term in 1992, two of the three most recent parenting style research studies have adopted the term, too. With a Balanced parenting style, parents are engaged and nurturing, which helps the primitive brain develop. Children feel attached and trusting, so they don’t have to have brains in survival mode…they can be calm, peaceful, and joyful…which is our natural state of balance. As toddlers, Balanced parents teach children how to self-regulate their emotions by tuning in, teaching them feeling language, and how to work through their intense emotions, which develops their emotional intelligence. As children’s logical brains start to develop, Balance parents teach their children skills appropriate to their age: physical tasks (like making a sandwich), behavior (like manners), and values (like appreciating diversity). They also build their self-esteem without building big egos or creating people pleasers. They give the children choices within limits, so they develop autonomy and learn to respect boundaries.
Infinity
As teens and young adults, Balanced parents use active listening and respectful communication to support their child’s developing brain as it learns to make decisions and formulate identity and values. Even as adults, this Balanced style is considered to be the most effective way to form and build relationships with other adults, based on mutual respect and effective communication. The great news is that even if you didn’t get what you needed as a child, the miracle of neuroplasticity allows our brain and body to heal from trauma or neglect, or to repattern old habitual thoughts and behavior into healthier habits. This allows us to heal and regenerate physically, mentally, and emotionally. This means we can completely renew who we are. Instead of being a byproduct of our upbringing and subconscious programming, we can consciously evolve to become the person we want to be. So as you seek balance and harmony wherever you feel imbalance, just call in your inherent ability to self-heal and watch yourself start to blossom just as nature blossoms in the Spring.

Creating Space

I have been thinking a lot about physical space recently. My wife’s grandparents both died within two months of one another late last year. They were in their mid-nineties and spent 51 years in the house they owned in Louisville. My wife is the executor of their estate. We have spent every free day we have, driving 100 miles and going through things in the house. We have selected a few pieces of furniture to replace things in our own home and a few small treasures and books. My wife’s brother, mother and uncle have also made their selections. We will be leaving enough things behind to fill another household. There is so much property in that house. As we have begun this process, we realize our own home is overflowing with things. We have collected a lot of stuff in 25 years together. Managing the estate of these two people has made us realize we cannot wait until we are ill and elderly to begin the process of creating space in our home. We must begin now. This is the perfect time for us really. We have begun doing some upgrades to our home as we think of retirement and the possibility of selling our centenarian city twostory house and going horizontal as my neighbor says when referring to a single level home. I am, when comparing myself to my wife, very much a minimalist. I do tend to collect books, magazines, tee shirts and socks. I manage to do a purge of these items about three times each year. So, I do tend to have fewer things than she does. There is more of an issue of how much I like open space in my surroundings. I prefer an open room with a cozy corner with a nice small table, lamp and comfortable chair for reading. My wife loves overstuffed, oversized chairs that leave very little floor space in the room. This is the season of the great cleaning. We purge our houses of clutter; clean our yards of debris and get ready to enjoy the warmth of summer. We create outdoor living spaces and start gardens in anticipation of long evenings outside. I wonder how to create space even in the cold of winter. I want the balance of my life indoors to be as pleasing as the outdoor spaces of late summer and early fall. More than that, I want to create, in the inner spaces,
14
the rooms of my heart and interiors of my soul, sense of balance. I feel, as I enter this third year of the pandemic and begin counting all of those lost during this long dark winter of COVID, that I can barely breathe. There is so much loss and there is nowhere to turn to find space for grieving or healing. There is so much business to attend in the aftermath of death. I waited for spring so I could run away to the natural world and just breathe; not think; not work; not be a sister, wife, mother or co-worker but just me, wrapped in the long mourning of my own protracted grief and further weighted by my wife’s double burden of grief. I need to create a space apart from the everyday of living and wail and rage and lie down in an emotional heap of exhaustion and sleep. Were I able to hibernate for a season and awake long after the storm of sadness had passed, refreshed and renewed. Unfortunately, I cannot do exactly that. I will go away for a couple of days, here and there. I will turn off my phone; walk in the woods; watch the stars from a hot tub; take long drives on forgotten roads instead of the highway. I will renew my efforts to create spaces of beauty and peace within my yard and home and I will hope that those moments of peace will be enough. In this world in which we find ourselves, it will have to be.
Spiritual Showers by Wayne Holmes Sometimes our routines weigh us down to the point that we feel physically tired, mentally drained, emotionally wasted, and spiritually unclean. We’d like to get away from it all, but our next vacation may be nowhere in sight. How do we recover? When we’ve done some exhausting physical work, it always feels nice to rest awhile and then take a warm bath or shower. The physical work allows us to release tensions, concentrate on something else, and focus on the task at hand. The shower allows us to freshen and feel clean once more.
Spring Splendor 2022
It is Spring. Since my mother died, everything reminds me of her. She loved spring. She was an avid gardener, self-taught and extremely gifted in creating outdoor spaces of beauty. Everywhere, I see her and hear her wit and wisdom. I am older now and I have come to appreciate something about her I simply took for granted my whole life.

When we find ourselves in need of a spiritual lift from the everyday drudgery, a spiritual shower can work wonders. This sometimes occurs at a place of worship on a Sunday morning, but it can also be created in our homes. The feeling we want to create is that of being bathed in the flow of Light and Love. We may have a favorite mediation CD that can facilitate this feeling. If not, then simply taking a few minutes to relax and imagine drops of love splashing all over our bodies can give us the feeling of Love being showered all over us. We can also find renewed energy by listening to the sounds of nature. For those who live in the city, many CDs are now available which have recorded nature sounds. But, other sounds work for us as well. Some enjoy a symphony. Others enjoy religious or spiritual praise music. Some enjoy chants. There is a large variety of musical sounds that can help us feel as if we are being bathed in love. Music isn’t the only means of taking a spiritual shower. For some, reading and meditating works wonders. For others, taking a walk or watching an uplifting program helps bring our spiritual focus back to The Divine with renewed energy. And, don’t overlook the value of laughter. Stone Eleven reminds us to choose laughter as the notes of our song. Personally, a good, hearty, belly laugh does wonders for my emotional well-being. Sometimes it helps to be around children because they know how to laugh and have fun. Whenever we are prone to take ourselves too seriously, whenever we are burdened by the everyday cares of life, we can take a few minutes out of our day and enjoy a spiritual shower.

Healthy Tips to Know About Cocoa! There are several surprising benefits that nutrient enriched cocoa contain. Cocoa is a powder that is naturally loaded with antioxidants. The powder is made from cacao beans that have been dried and roasted. Cocoa has been enjoyed by millions of people worldwide in many ways. In Central America, islanders are known to consume more cocoa than those on the mainland, producing results of the islanders experiencing lower blood pressures contributing to heart health. A review of several studies found that people who consumed more chocolate have a lowered risk of heart disease, stroke and death. It is important to note, that before you consume a chocolate bar, not all chocolate has health benefits. It largely depends on how the cocoa is processed. What is the best cocoa rich chocolate to consume? Dark chocolate of good quality and containing at least 70% cocoa.
16
It is more beneficial for your body to consume chocolate in small amounts each day than to enjoy a large amount at one time. Moderation is the key. Milk and white chocolate do not have same benefits as dark chocolate and organic cocoa powder is best for a cup of hot chocolate or for being used in recipes. The flavonols cocoa contains support brain function and improve blood flow, which can help with depression and overall mood. More research is needed concerning the impact of consuming chocolate, but if it is low in sugar, it can create calmness, contentment and promote an overall sense of well being. Consuming cocoa long term may enhance your skin appearance, texture and can contribute to sun protection for people who enjoy being outside in the sunshine whenever possible. One more unlikely benefit from cocoa is that it may

prevent cavities and produce improved oral health. More studies are being done because depending on the sugar content of the cocoa product it may cancel out the antibacterial properties that cocoa contain. For the chocolate lovers out there, rejoice! There is more research being done to discover the amazing benefits of cocoa! For now, there seems to be some wonderful reasons to add or keep delicious cocoa in your cupboard or lunch box for a quick burst of energy or for just chasing the blues away!

A river of starlings flew into the Juniper tree in my backyard while I was looking out a window a few weeks ago. More birds than seemed possible filled this small evergreen that suddenly shimmered with movement. They burst like a puffball all at once, swooping over my roof, quickly returning and burst again from the tree another two times before flying away. It was an unbelievable live performance of nature, a murmuration, right before my eyes. I felt blessed and gifted and filled with delight. As is my nature, I soon began wondering what kind of sign this was and what could be the message.
Here in two books was the same message. In Singer’s book, I had stopped reading at the chapter that said we cannot isolate ourselves in order to avoid feeling pain or getting hurt or situations that could be what is personally risky based on one’s own life experiences. reading just happened to also be on my bookcase shelf. “Eastern Body, Western Mind” by Anodea Judith includes some helpful ways to look at the chakra system along with psychology as a path to self.
Bio for Patti Lightflower: I have always enjoyed working with textiles. As a child I watched my grandmother turn colorful cotton feed bags into play clothes. I designed and made dresses for my dolls from scraps of fabric and shoes for them from orange peels, which I pretended were leather. I’ve attended art classes at the University of Cincinnati in the 70’s and have studied with textile artists at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, as well as with many other professionals in their studios over the years. My long-time passion has been the study of hands along with their owners, being creative and expressing my artistic side allows for manifesting something tangible whereas reading hands is more esoteric.
I appreciate how her lists include describing the seven chakras as rights and as demons, referring to productive and counterproductive aspects. According to Judith, the 1st Root Chakra as a right is ‘to be here’, and as a demon it is ‘fear’. The 2nd Sacral Chakra as a right is ‘to feel’, as a demon it is ‘guilt’. The 3rd Navel Chakra as a right is ‘to act’, as a demon it is ‘shame’. The 4th Heart Chakra as a right is ‘to love’, as a demon it is ‘grief’. The 5th Throat Chakra as a right is to ‘speak’, as a demon it is ‘lies’. The 6th Third Eye Chakra as a right is ‘to see’, as a demon it is ‘illusion’. The 7th Crown Chakra as a right is ‘to know’, as a demon it is ‘attachment’. The previously mentioned book, “The Untethered Soul”, contains a few helpful tools for observing self and being aware of when you are holding onto your stuff and staying in a protective state of being. Choosing to stay protectively safe and avoid any disturbance to the status quo becomes the norm. The author shares “If you let go and stay in the seat of awareness, what you are noticing will pass. If you don’t let go, and instead get lost in the disturbed feelings and thoughts that arise, you’ll see a sequence of events unfold so quickly you won’t know what hit you.” ….. “You’ll look at the clock, and five minutes will have gone by, or an hour or even a year. You can lose your clarity for quite some time.” So true! If one is wallowing, it might be ego pain rather than soul pain with a choice to stay enclosed or an opportunity to burst free and blossom.

Mr. Holmes’ words resonate way beyond the printed page—they vibrate within your heart as truth. I absolutely LOVE this book! It is the best bridge I have seen joining traditional religion, spirituality, and the spiritual nature of us all. “The integrity of the author in revealing his own story is authentic, reminding me of the humanness of all of our experiences. I felt wrapped in the arms of loving kindness throughout the whole book. I predict this book will enlighten all who read it.” –Liz Loring Educator, Life Coach & Group Facilitator

It wasn’t until I donned a clerical collar that I came to understand how people viewed religious leaders differently. Some were comforted by my presence while others seemed ill at ease. “Before long I realized that many had been damaged through judgment, guilt, rejection, and condemnation by a religion or by someone religious. I’m happy to report that these people do not have to languish in fear, depression, or resentment. “In Every Path Leads Home, Wayne Holmes has created a brilliant and very gentle way out of religious abuse and intolerance into peace, happiness, and personal freedom. “It is a way to heal us all.” –Rev. As all of us here in the Midwest know, Spring is trying to start early this year. We are delighting in walking outdoors at 9 p.m. to see the stars shining brightly. The sun is not only out some days, it’s WARM. Families are strolling outdoors, airing themselves out after a rainy winter. Dogs are smiling widely, cats are prowling for careless mice venturing out, and the robins are back in town already. In the country, the small frogs that live in the drainage ditches have come alive in song, luring eligible female peeper frogs to their ditch for a little procreative fun. Our horses have started their mud rolling early, much to their delight, and they are beginning to shed. Squirrels are venturing down from the trees, and the grass is beginning to green. Trees are budding, and all
20
seems right with the world – unless you are one of the many people devastated by early year tornadoes. Our hearts go out to those families, and we are grateful for all those who are trying to help them. Left to my own devices I could keep going on and on in this vein as Spring and Fall are my favorite seasons. Terri gently suggested that perhaps readers might be more interested in the fascination that animals have for young humans, and vice versa. I think that fits quite nicely with our early season of renewal and hope, don’t you? Spring is a time of rebirth and renewal for all the elements – the sky grows brighter, the sun warmer, the tree sap begins to flow and new leaves appear, weeds spring up all over, birds return and have babies, and we see newborn horses, lambs, and calves begin
Spring Splendor 2022
to show up in the fields. Insects reappear, and in the late evenings we begin to see the baby rabbits hop about. If you think about it, perhaps that is one of the reasons why we humans enjoy the season so much – we are drawn to the young of others. They remind us of new beginnings, new possibilities. We are fascinated by their rapid change from blind baby to curious youngster to full grown adult, sometimes in the matter of a week or two. How many of us will take time even when we are very busy, to stop and smile when we see our first baby rabbit or raccoon or bird of the season? We have noticed that we have generations of birds that return to us – some like the Wrens and Towhees that nest every year. Others, like the Blue Jays and Red Headed Woodpeckers, seem to return every other year or so back to where they, or their parents and grandparents, were born. If you visit a farm or zoo, you will perhaps notice that the reverse can also be true. We visited the Cincinnati Zoo a couple of years ago, and I was drawn to the Polar Bear area by the laughter of children. There I noticed that an adult polar bear was in the water tank right by a full window filled with children. He would slowly sink to the bottom of the water, then push back up to the surface blowing air bubbles the entire time. He did this over and over, and the children were delighted. Terri’s horse Rohan is very curious when our neighbor’s little girls come over to see the horses – he will come clear over to the fence just for them. The horse cookies don’t hurt either, but that’s not his main focus, it is the children themselves. Wild animals will sometimes approach human children (providing they are sitting quietly) more readily than human adults at times. Why? We believe the answer is very simple. Animals connect with others through their heart center. We humans, especially adult humans, tend to reach out mentally first and decide whether or not to connect with another. Human children, in general, tend to reach out from their hearts first just as animals do. Simply put, animals and children connect to others in the same way. Human children have open hearts, and the

animals recognize this, and relax into that invitation for connection. This ability to form and nurture a heart-to-heart energetic connection is also the basis for animal communication. Spring is the time where this interaction, this connection, can be more likely for adult humans as well. The season of renewal reminds us all of the invitation to connect to the Divine through Nature, to our animal friends, and to each other – with open hearts. – Cindy & Terri

Wand hat IS Sound Healing How Does it Work? by Jill Mattson I have worked in the field, that I feel is best called Sound Healing, for over 30 years. I have seen this endeavor grow dramatically in terms of basic understanding, applications and number of participants. I regularly speak with a broad range of people who are interested in improving their lives with Sound Energy - from experts to novices. I am always excited sharing ideas and information on this dynamic discipline. With these discussions in mind, sometimes I think it is worthwhile to go back to the fundamentals and share what I have learned about Sound Healing… specifically, I find it illuminating to examine what - at the most elemental level - IS Sound Healing and How does it work. Below are some tenets that I have assembled and have come to believe connect some of the dots that are Sound Healing… I deeply know that we are spiritual beings; composed of matter and energy with a divine aspect. Traditional medicine works on our “matter” component… on our physical bodies only. Sound Healing works on all aspects of our being - physical, energetic, emotional, intellectual and spiritual. To gain a glimpse of what we understand of the subject, we must review some important scientific breakthroughs. Science has been catching up with our complex human nature, but there is still a ways to go. Early in the 20th century physicists began to unravel a much better understanding of the universe around us. They (Einstein) proved that matter and energy were essentially the same thing and the famous equation: E=mc2 is known to all. Reflect a moment on how profound this is: Energy & matter are the same - just different forms or states of everything. To help understand this consider something not exactly the same, but analogous: ice and liquid water and steam are all different - but also the same thing - WATER. Our universe and our reality is multi-layered; entwined. Equally amazing, around the same time (early in the 20th century) other physicists formulated the theory
22
of quantum physics. Some of the consequences of the quantum state reveal that reality is made up of components that all have a “wave” and a “particle” nature. This is more evidence of our complex, multidimensional nature - we are particle-like (like minuscule bits of matter) and we are wave-like (frequency). Further, all energy is frequency and also, all matter is frequency. Quantum physics introduced some other amazing concepts - such as the observer is a critical component in the universe - and that distant particles can be entwined and inseparable - when you act on one particle you instantly impact the other even at great distances - however, we do not need to go into these. Just ponder … we have proof positive that the universe is far, far more than meets the eye. So what does that mean for us? As I said above, traditional medicine (especially western medicine) works only on your physical body. This is effective when you cut your finger and you need a stitch… however, it neglects tremendous possibilities. Frequency IS energy… when you run your microwave you use microwave frequencies to interact with the molecules of the food that you heat. But frequency has vastly more potential. As I said above Sound Energy can work on our physical bodies (you can apply sound energy to the body to soothe sore muscles; you can view inside the body with a sonogram; Sound can lower blood pressure) and it can work on our energetic aspects. We (us in our entirety) are a set of frequencies constantly vibrating, producing critical life support processes (the heart beats with electrical energy; the brain produces brain waves that affect states of consciousness). We need the right frequencies - in the correct quantity - in harmony! Sound Energy can interact with and affect (heal) many body systems… way beyond what you probably suspect. Frequency also affects our mental states and energies (simple examples: remember how music can impact our emotions and our intellect; how powerful can Mozart be … or a scary movie sound track). To repeat: Frequency IS energy. There are nearly an infinite number of frequencies - from very high energy to extremely low energy (X-rays are dangerous;
Spring Splendor 2022
some frequencies are so low energy they are difficult to detect). Frequency (cycles per second) can be extremely “fast” to very “slow”. There is a form of energy long understood by Spiritual guides called “Subtle” energy that has never been directly detected. According to many: Subtle energy underpins some parts of our Spiritual lives. Sound Energy consists of almost limitless frequencies that offer powerful means of interacting with our world and helping us. I contend that Sound Energy can even reach our Spiritual natures through Sound’s ability to interact with Subtle energy. Amazingly, Ancient Masters knew that certain sounds, certain music and notes could affect consciousness and physic ability. They knew that shapes and dimensions (Sacred Geometry) could work with Sound and produce profound results. The main point here: We are much more than physical animals and Sound Energy offers the means to reach us on physical, energetic and spiritual planes. As I said at the outset of this short article - I have been working with Sound Healing for over 30 years. I have worked with dozens of modern experts and I have extensively researched Ancient Civilizations to gain their lost or secret uses of Sound. My life’s work is to share this information to the benefit of as many people as possible. To support my work, I have built a small business entirely centered on Sound Healing. There is a wealth of information on the subject on my website: JillsWingsofLight.com. I have also assembled a unique assortment of products ALL of which are related to improving your life through Sound Energy. I also have compiled a large array of educational courses all about Sound, available on the website. I invite you to visit the revised website and explore. Thank you for your interest.

The Secrets to Raising Your Vibration by Christina Grozik
While we are bio-individuals we are also part of a collective. We each have special gifts to contribute to the world, and when we do so from a place of love there is harmony. Cells and different systems within our body work together for optimal well-being,just like a vehicle containing a variety of mechanisms that function with each other for the vehicle to perform at optimum level. If any of these components are lacking in some way, the entire system that they are a part of is impacted. The same applies to the collective consciousness. The energy we emit either works to increase or decrease the well-being of all. The choice is ours. At times it may be challenging to see the world through this lens. Each of us is part of something much larger than ourselves and our words, thoughts and actions help to cocreate the state of the world around us. This is not new information, but it is knowledge that we are relearning. This has always been a part of us. It is built into our fiber. We are now facing a critical time and are being reawakened to the wisdom that everything is connected. What affects one part affects them all. One of the concepts and ideas that is contained within the Edgar Cayce readings is that every moment of our lives we are in a process of cocreating the images and patterns that help to shape and energize our future.

We are all vibratory beings. Have you ever met someone and were instantly drawn to them or perhaps felt very uneasy around them? Maybe there is a person in your life that when you talk to them you feel incredibly energized or there’s someone who completely drains you? This is energy, and as we move through life we may experience shifts in energy and periods of higher or lower levels of vibration. As contributors to our story and that of the world’s, what story are we writing? Will it be a drama? An action-packed adventure? A horror story? I would like to choose a love story. Life happens to us every day and experiences fall into our path that may shake our constitution. There are times that life can get us “down” (a lowering of our vibrational state.) As challenging as it may seem in these moments, recognizing these as parts of our story, will help us grow and become stronger if we allow that growth. It may seem impossible to view something tragic through these eyes, and this perspective is not designed to disregard the pain that life can bring. We must know, and come to terms with the fact, that there are limitations to that which we can control. It isn’t what happens to us in life, but how we react to it that
Spring Splendor 2022
either increases or decreases its energetic power within us. When we choose to let go of what we cannot control we also release toxicity that may be attached to it. When we hold onto experiences that were hurtful to us, feelings of anger, fear, jealously, and resentment, can build up in the system, lowering our vibration. These emotions are poison to our being, hinder our spiritual growth and wellbeing, and often cause us to react in an unconsciousness state to situations. If someone treats you in a way that is unkind, it may have nothing to do with you. It is usually something that they are struggling with that is creating this behavior. Now if you did something that lacked kindness first, then their reaction could very well be about you. Reacting to a lower vibratory state with that same energy only intensifies that energy. Not reacting is reacting. It is a choice to forego the engagement of succumbing to a state of unconsciousness in that moment. While living in a noise polluted, technically addicted, and always on the go society, it can be difficult to operate from a place of awareness because we are often lacking the stillness required to calm our minds, relax our bodies, and harness the power of connecting with the divine. Much like riding a bike or playing an instrument, it takes practice. Once you can employ a calm state within and function from this space, some will be encouraged by your state, and it will inspire them to elevate their own vibration. It may also result in you becoming a target for those who are working from a lower vibrational state. Beings in this state often like to inflict their suffering on others. Remember that saying, “misery loves company.” Keep in mind, unpleasant behavior toward you may have nothing to do with you. There are a variety of ways that one may consider raising or maintaining a healthy vibratory state. Be mindful (not to be confused with mind FULL) of your words, thoughts, and actions. Are they coming from a place of love? Bless someone not only with your words, thoughts, and actions, but also from the heart. The universe is all knowing. If our words and actions are not coherent with our heart, it creates a different energy then when these two components are in unison. In the sound healing community, we like to say that your energy speaks before you say a word. Are there other factors that can influence our vibrational levels? The answer is yes. One method to increase your
Infinity
vibration is through the foods we consume. Processed foods have a lower energetic value than whole foods. When we eat closer to the source of the food, it contains more vitality which then supplies our system. For example, when you eat a fresh picked tomato from a garden versus canned tomatoes, you are eating closest to the origin of the food and its natural state. Greek physician, Hippocrates said, “Let food be thy medicine, and let medicine be thy food.” Outside of food consumption, what are we feeding ourselves? What kind of programming are we watching? What colors are around us? Do we maintain a clean and clutterfree space? How often do we unplug from technology? Are we getting quality sleep? How are we spending our time? Who is part of our story? These things are a part of our mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual diet. Once we are fully aware of the many ways we co-create our lives and shape our world it can be overwhelming. The choices that you make matter. Every time you interact with another being there is a choice. Choose kindness. Choose compassion. Choose love. Every piece of the puzzle needs to be added for the whole picture to be seen. You and I, while our own beings, with our own unique and special gifts, are connected. If you are interested in learning more about raising you vibrations, join Christina Grozik in her upcoming webinar. This webinar will explore ways to raise your vibration through the choices we make and give you practical tips for keeping those “good vibes” in us and around us.

45 Healthy Adults Used a Cell Phone for 50 Minutes – What Happened? by Dr. Joeseph Mercola For several years, doctors, scientists and activists have been raising concerns about the possible connection between cell phones and brain cancer. And recent research by scientists at NIH and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory conclusively determined that a cell phone’s electromagnetic field can indeed cause changes in brain activity. CNN reports: “Brain activity means that the cells are using glucose to create energy ... Compared with subjects whose phones were turned off, the group whose phones were on had ‘significantly higher’ brain activity in the area closest to the telephone antenna.” Time Magazine lists five simple ways to reduce your exposure to cell phone radiation: • Use a wired headset - This keeps the antenna far away from your skull. • Get used to texting - Texting also keeps the handset away from your brain, reducing the radiation risk. • Don’t use your cell phone as an alarm clock - If you use your phone as your wake-up call, you’ll likely need to keep it close to your head; there’s still radiation being emitted even when it’s not taking calls. • Don’t carry your phone in your pocket - There’s preliminary research to indicate that men who carry a phone in their pocket all day could be putting their fertility at risk, and women who carry their phones in their bra could be increasing their risk of breast cancer. • Use a radiation-blocking case - These can reduce cell phone radiation by two-thirds. These are all important precautions, especially since the recent study by leading brain imaging researcher Nora D. Volkow, MD et al— one funded by the US government and led by one of “Top 100 People Who Shape Our World” (2007) according to Time —has found that cell phone use does affect your brain. After just 50 minutes on a cell phone, the emitted
26
radiation increases the activity in your brain cells, the study found. The exact effects of that brain activity are as of yet unknown. But the study in effect has debunked the myth that cell phone radiation at nonthermal levels does not cause biological changes, as the SAR exposure involved was only .901 W/Kg, well under the FCC limit of 1.6 W/Kg for cell phones. The study has also raised the specter that if acute cell phone radiation is impacting glucose in the brain, an established marker of brain activity, might it also be impacting neurotransmitters and other brain biochemistry? Chronic elevated glucose levels in the brain is, of course, also of concern, and is currently being investigated by Volkow. Scientists are now calling for urgent research on effects on the brain from cell phone radiation, previously believed in orthodox circles to have no effect. They are also calling for reinstatement of federal funding for bioelectromagnetics research, which dried up in the mid-1990s as government facilitated the roll out of cellular infrastructure across the country. Dr. Ronald Herberman, former Director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, says, “We know that increased glucose also occurs with infections and other inflammatory processes, and leads to the production of potentially damaging reactive oxygen radicals that can alter the ways that cells and genes work. This important finding should stimulate many biologists to perform in-depth studies to determine the consequences of such changes in nerve cells or other bodily cells in the region of the radiation. We need to develop a better understanding of how radiofrequency radiation might contribute to increased risk for brain tumors as well as other alterations in brain functions.” David Carpenter, MD, Director of the Institute for Health and the Environment, University of Albany, has called the NIH study ‘dynamite’. He says it will now be hard to deny that cell phones alter nervous system activity. However, Louis Slesin of Microwave News cautions,
Spring Splendor 2022
“For decades, the microwave community has been awash with reports that low-level radiation can lead to numerous neurological effects, such as leakage through the blood-brain barrier, changes in calcium in and around brain cells and DNA breaks in the brains of exposed animals. But in each case skeptics have countered that they could not repeat the experiments and therefore the original work must have been flawed and should be repudiated. Volkow’s new study will no doubt face a similar barrage of criticism.”
Slesin, a long time, well-respected expert in this field, also noted he learned, “The closing sentence of original version of the JAMA paper advised cell phone users to keep the antenna away from the brain by using a wired earpiece. This was edited out in the review/revision process.” So, while it is encouraging a respected journal such as JAMA has published on this topic, and also issued a press release about the research, we must all realize there could still be interests wanting to downplay the importance of the finding for cell phone users. The Volkow study was the first to look at how electromagnetic radiation from cell phones affects glucose metabolism in the brain. When glucose metabolism goes up, it activates cells. Many scientists believe this may provide insight into the biochemical process leading to increased incidence of brain tumors in heavy cell phone users. Based on the NIH research, Mayor Mark Barron and the City Council of Jackson, WY last week initiated a cell phone safety awareness program in schools for students in grades K-12. Jackson is the first town in America to take specific action to protect schoolchildren from microwave radiation. Mayor Barron states “Given the extraordinary acceleration of cell phone use by our school children and the seeming social acceptance of placing this powerful tool next to our head, it is only prudent to address the issue at this time.” Please Protect Yourself, and Your Family, Starting Today All the evidence points to the fact that our current safety standards are completely inadequate. Our rapidly expanding wireless technologies must be properly

evaluated, first of all, and the precautionary principle must be invoked when new technologies emerge. While you can’t completely avoid radiation in today’s wireless world, you can at least minimize your exposure by heeding the following advice: Children Should Always Avoid Using Cell Phones: Barring a life-threatening emergency, children should not use a cell phone, or a wireless device of any type. Children are far more vulnerable to cell phone radiation than adults, because of their thinner skull bones. Reduce Your Cell Phone Use: Turn your cell phone off more often. Reserve it for emergencies or important matters. As long as your cell phone is on, it emits radiation intermittently, even when you are not actually making a call. Use a Land Line at Home and at Work: Although more and more people are switching to using cell phones as their exclusive phone contact, it is a dangerous trend and you can choose to opt out of the madness. Reduce or Eliminate Your Use of Other Wireless Devices: You would be wise to cut down your use of these devices. Just as with cell phones, it is important to ask yourself whether or not you really need to use them every single time. Use Your Cell Phone Only Where Reception is Good: The weaker the reception, the more power your phone must use to transmit, and the more power it uses, the more radiation it emits, and the deeper the dangerous radio waves penetrate into your body. Ideally, you should only use your phone with full bars and good reception. Also seek to avoid carrying your phone on your body as that merely maximizes any potential exposure. Ideally put it in your purse or carrying bag. Placing a cell phone in a shirt pocket over the heart is asking for trouble, as is placing it in a man’s pocket if he seeks to preserve his fertility.(See ElectromagneticHealth. org’s Letter to Parents on Fertility and Other Risks to Children from Wireless Technologies)
(Continued on pg. 28)
27
(Continued from pg. 27) Don’t Assume One Cell Phone is Safer Than Another. There’s no such thing as a “safe” cell phone. Keep Your Cell Phone Away From Your Body When it is On: The most dangerous place to be, in terms of radiation exposure, is within about six inches of the emitting antenna. You do not want any part of your body within that area. If you are in a meeting, on public transportation, in a courtroom or other public places, such as a doctor’s office, keep your cell phone turned off out of consideration for the ‘second hand radiation’ effects. Children are also more vulnerable, so please avoid using your cell phone near children. Use Safer Headset Technology: Wired headsets will certainly allow you to keep the cell phone farther away from your body. However, if a wired headset is not wellshielded -- and most of them are not -- the wire itself acts as an antenna attracting ambient information carrying radio waves and transmitting radiation directly to your brain. Make sure that the wire used to transmit the signal to your ear is shielded. The best kind of headset to use is a combination shielded wire and air-tube headset. These operate like a stethoscope, transmitting the information to your head as an actual sound wave; although there are wires that still must be shielded, there is no wire that goes all the way up to your head. I strongly urge you to take the above precautions to reduce your risk and the risk to your children, who are even more vulnerable to long-term damage. I also invite you to help raise awareness by sharing this information with your loved ones. From Darkness to Light
as given to Rev. Marcia Cantrell My dearest Maria, your world around you are so entwined with fear. Fear the people of your world do not understand. Your world has lived in darkness for so long they are not able to look beyond all the false information that is and has been indoctrinated for all their lives. They are lost in fear and can not see the light. You and your world are at the portal of truth. Some will step through it while others will choose not to. To step through the portal is merely stepping into the light of what is true. Choosing not to step forward is staying in darkness and remaining slaves to all the darkness that has controlled humanity from the beginning of time. My son and I would like at this perfect time to bring forward this season you and humanity are in. The time you call Easter. Why are we bringing this forward at this time? Because it is a reminder of the great sacrifice my
Spring Splendor 2022
son made through Love. It was not easy as an earthly mother to witness the horrible things that were put upon my son. My beloved son completed his purpose for his life time to teach humanity there is a God, his father.
For those who haven’t, we send light and love for your fear to be extinguished in preparation for the wonderful; new world that is waiting for all of Heavenly Father’s creations.
This season is the time to remember my son came to change the world through his teaching of love through our Heavenly Father. As time has gone past his crucifixion and resurrection many have forgotten the power taught by my son, that has been given to each by our Heavenly Father. Jesus taught to love one another not to do the opposite. He reminded his disciples they could do greater things than he has done.
We send you Blessings of Peace an Love, Jeshua Ben Joseph and Mother
We wish to bring forth all have the ability of discernment and intuition if they choose to use these Father given abilities. These are the guiding instruments of truth. Love comes from the heart and there is nothing greater than love. We encourage all who are witness to these words to take quiet time to reflect what is needed in your life to step through the portal of truth into the light if you have not already done this.
