Signature Profile Wellness Management and Recovery Coordinating Center of Excellence (WMR CCOE) By Deborah A. Wilcox VISION: We Bring Health and Wellness to Life MISSION: Development of authentic relationships across human differences for the achievement of civic engagement, justice, and sustainable communities of wellness. One of the most daunting challenges in our society today is the insidious spread of stigma, oppression, and inequities that are perpetrated on individuals and families of people who suffer with psychiatric and substance use disorders. It is clearly documented that these persons die younger than the general population mainly due to preventable risk factors related to smoking, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. The mental health and substance use treatment communities have been working on developing interventions to reduce and eliminate this early mortality gap, and are seeking ways to improve access to preventive services, wellness and recovery programs, and integrated health care services. In support of this most critical mission the Ohio Department Mental Health (ODMH) established the Wellness Management and Recovery Coordinating Center of Excellence (WMR CCOE) that is housed at Southeast Behavioral Health, Inc., in Columbus, Ohio to promote evidence-based and clinical best practices that address the holistic health care needs of adults and children affected by serious emotional disturbances and/ or mental illness. Over the past seven (7) years WMR has been implemented in 26 community mental health agencies, and two (2) psychiatric hospitals throughout the State of Ohio. To date, over 1200 Ohioans have participated in WMR and 287 peer and provider facilitators in 25 organizations have been trained to facilitate WMR groups. Outcome data indicates that 64% of individuals who complete WMR demonstrate greater efficacy in their mental health recovery and that these positive gains are sustained for at least 6 months or longer. WMR assists people with mental illness and their families in making informed decisions about their recovery and holistic health care needs. The WMR curriculum promotes good physical, spiritual and emotional health (continues on pg. 4)
(continued from pg. 3) by facilitating the appropriate knowledge, awareness and skills that empower individuals to identify their holistic health and wellness goals, and to develop collaborative approaches to effectively achieve a healthier and improved quality of life. The WMR curriculum is co-facilitated with peers, those persons who are recipients of services in collaboration with those persons who are providers of mental health services. WMR participants engage in multicultural groups and share their challenges and recovery journeys. All of these activities promote the building of authentic and supportive relationships that fosters safety and empowerment for the healing of human hurt, the unlearning of personal stigma and the building of communities of wellness. The WMR curriculum consists of the following sessions: • • • • • • • • • • •

Subconscious
Communication Skills – The Art of Talking to Yourself.
by William Molitor, BCH, CI Can you think back to a time when you knew what you wanted to do, but ended up doing the total opposite? Everyone has experienced this at least once. You may have wanted to stop smoking, lose weight, or begin an exercise routine only to find yourself failing time after time. You find yourself thinking “why is it that I consciously know what I want, but end up doing something completely different”. The answer is because you don’t know how to properly communicate your desires with the part of your mind that controls automatic behaviors, urges, emotions, and habits otherwise known as the subconscious mind. Words make poor vehicles for moving ideas around inside and outside of your mind. In fact words have a tendency to lead you down the wrong path more often than not. Words that you write can be misunderstood, misconstrued or simply be beyond the comprehension of the reader. Words that you speak or even think can have the same pit falls. When you decide to communicate with another person using words, it’s like gambling. You gamble that the listener will hear and understand your words in a way that accurately reflects what you are thinking. When you think to yourself in words to make personal changes you are also taking the same gamble. You are gambling that the words that you are saying to yourself are being interpreted accurately, and far too often this is not true. Words are thought to be the primary way that we communicate with ourselves and others. This, however, is not entirely true. Take for example “faceto-face” conversations: most of what we communicate to each other comes across in our tone of voice, body language, and facial expressions, along with the speed
Feb / Mar 2013
and intensity of our speech. This coupled with the fact that words can have more than just one meaning leaves your ability to accurately communicate with only words at a distinct disadvantage. Take for instance the word “conversation”: did you know that you could be accused of criminal conversation? You would think that such an accusation would have something to do with something that you said - but in reality you are being accused of adultery. We use words all the time that have more than one meaning such as bark, stamp, plant, watch and leaves. A pile of leaves could be a stack of official military papers that allow soldiers to be absent from duty or a pile of foliage that fell from the trees in your back yard.
against the untiring resistance of their subconscious mind. Each of these failures helps to eventually convince the conscious mind that you cannot do something that you clearly want to do.
Einstein has often been cited to have said that words and symbols had very little impact on his actual thought process. Having conducted thousands of hours of hypnotic sessions with clients I can say with reasonable certainty that this is true. I have over the past decade developed a means in which my clients experience a more pure form of “self communication” to ensure that the changes they desire to make are achieved not only in a swift and permanent manner but in the way that they truly want. When you remove the barriers that all languages naturally have, you open doors to personal understanding that can go well beyond common talk therapy. The language of the mind is not in words. Words may in fact be the worst tool for solving problems.
Too often people believe that being in the trance state that is referred to as hypnosis is what makes the changes that they experience or see other people experience. The truth is it takes a combination of the natural trance state and effective communication techniques and skills. These are the techniques and skill that are used every day at the Tri-State Hypnosis Center to help people learn to communicate with their subconscious mind in a way that promotes success.
Subconscious communication is an important communication skill that is grossly neglected by most people. Most people assume that fighting against an impulse, emotion, or habit with willpower and rational thinking is the best way to make personal changes. The truth is that this is not the best nor the easiest way. The easiest way is by learning how to speak the language of the mind. The high failure rates of diets and attempts at various lifestyle changes show that willpower and rational thinking are often not enough to make worthwhile changes to your life. In response to failure, most people try harder and harder, only to keep failing repeatedly

Working harder against your subconscious mind will not produce better results. Understanding how to effectively communicate with your subconscious mind so that you work with it, instead of against it, will make changing your old habits much easier. You will find that the goals that you set for yourself will seem to be achieved automatically, rather than through excruciating struggles against your natural inclination to do things the same old way.

Never Give Up On Love by Sara Gerhardt
She was thirty-four years old… fastly approaching thirtyfive. She had become increasingly depressed because she thought she had dated every Tom, Dick, and Harry in town and had turned over every stone, and kissed every toad around. For NOTHING! She boo-who’d because she saw no “significant other” in her future and she so desperately wanted to have children. She always dreamed of having a family and most definitely had wanted to be done having kids by the age of forty. Her time was running out. What was she doing wrong? She always tried to be everything she thought the guy wanted her to be. Apparently that wasn’t good enough. She was never good enough. After all the years of rejection and unsuccessful dating she believed she never would be good enough. Then she read a book about how to meet and marry the person of your dreams. She read that she should be focusing on exactly what she wanted. She thought she
6
had been doing that. Reluctantly, she followed directions and made a list of everything she dreamed of in her ideal mate. Then she made a list of deal-breakers… things that she absolutely could not tolerate. The book said to interview guys like a job interview. She felt that took the romance out of things but the romance route had not worked thus far so what the heck! The book said to “be yourself,” to not try to be what you think the other person wants you to be. Wow! What a novel concept….. “be yourself.” AND, the book said, if the person does not match up to at least 80% of your list, don’t spend time trying to change them. You can’t change people! You must accept a person just as they are. With the intentions of her list and the “be yourself” energy that she was putting out to the Universe, she met someone very quickly. She thought he was “the one.” Then she found out he did not like animals and she was a passionate animal lover. This was a problem. What had gone wrong? She went back to her list. OMG! She had
Feb / Mar 2013
forgotten to mention anything about animals. Not liking animals was added to her “deal-breaker” list and she said good-bye to the not so right Mr. Right. She met the next guy Feb. 20th. The interview went well. He liked animals, he wanted to have kids right away, and he was interested in a committed relationship. This guy matched her ideal mate list so well it was scary. Thirty days later the guy asked her to marry him. She couldn’t believe it! “Why?”, she asked. “Why do you want to marry me?” “Just because you are you,” he said. They were married May 20th. You do the math. They met and married in 90 days! Their first daughter was born eleven months later in April, 1989, one month before their first anniversary. This whirl-wind year was beyond anything she could have dreamed! Within 14 months she had gone from a depressed woman with no hope of ever meeting Mr. Right to a happily married mother. Eleven months later daughter # 2 was born in 1991. And today, she is still on her “honeymoon.” I know, because “she” is me… Sara Gerhardt. And on May 20, 2013 I will be celebrating my 25th wedding anniversary with the man of my dreams. Never give up. Believe me, love is closer than you think! Revolutionary Health Assessment System Gives Early Warning! by Vicki Richter I bet this headline caught your eye! Let me tell you how this happened for my husband.
3.Then schedule another Biopulsar appointment to verify that your improvements are helping your health.
After several weeks with a persistent virus and four doctor visits, an endoscopy confirmed the early warning about my husband’s health. He had EARLY Stage 1 Esophageal Cancer. The area was ¾” in size and was on the surface of the esophagus lining. Fortunately, it had not spread. Bottom line to this story…my husband has been cancer-FREE for over a year now. The endoscopy confirmed the early warning!
You might also ask, “Can my doctor suggest this health analysis for me? “Though your doctor may order preventive health screenings, insurance providers usually do not cover them unless you are showing symptoms. (Our screening offers a VERY unique method of early intervention that most doctors are unaware of.)
Most doctors use several other means of detection, such as xrays, CAT scans, PET scans and MRI. These tests are expensive, can cause anxiety, can be invasive, and are difficult for an individual to understand.
“I was so sick that I had to quit my job. After Vicki did an analysis on me, we found that my body was full of toxins. The air I had been breathing made me sick. She helped me find a doctor who helped me get better. Now I am back to work in a healthier environment.” M.J.
The Biopulsar System uses an individual’s ENERGY to detect early potential health issues. The assessment is inexpensive, non-invasive, the findings are known immediately, and are easily understood by an individual.
Take a confident step forward and call today (513-218-1493) to schedule your cutting edge assessment. You will be very glad that you did.
Some of the early detections I have found are pre-diabetes, extreme dehydration, pre-liver and pancreas issues, male and female reproductive issues, skeletal issues (neck, back, knees, etc) and major toxic conditions. This system has been used for many years, around then world, for early detection but is still unknown to most of the traditional medical community. The fact is - Various symptoms don’t show up on blood tests, lab tests, or x-rays. People are sick in ways that traditional medicine can’t define.
Good health is a VERY PRECIOUS COMMODITY and everyone deserves it. About the author: Vicki is a Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner (AADP), a Certified Biopulsar Biofeedback Analyst, and is a Reiki Master. She is also Certified in Herbal Health, Holistic Nutrition, and Non-Directed Imagery. To contact her, call 513-218-1493 or email her at vrichter@cinci.rr.com. Be sure to check out her website – www.naturalhealing4you.net.
The reality is that consumers are using Complementary therapies and holistic health care in overwhelming numbers. You might ask, “If I got a Biopulsar analysis, what would I do with the results?” 1.You can begin making appropriate health changes that can improve the quality of your life 2.Find a GOOD quality health/natural food store near your home. Get acquainted with the manager. Most stores give excellent advice if you want to try a natural health product.

Nature’s Musical Code by Jill Mattson It is cliché that mathematics is the language of Science; recent discoveries reveal that in a related and perhaps even more fundamental way, Music may truly be the language of Nature. Just as my dog whines and tries to stop me when I play discordant music on my piano - new findings show that we may be biologically “hardwired” in our response to aesthetically pleasing or displeasing music. Evidence suggests that music may be encoded in the smallest protein molecules comprising living things. Recent experiments from MIT report efforts to represent manmade silk fibers as musical compositions - using the underlying proteins in the synthetic silk as “notes”. The researchers found remarkable similarities between the physical properties of the silk and the aesthetic sound and feel of its associated music. In other words silk with good physical properties produced pleasing music! Sound Healing investigators and certain students of antiquity, have believed for some time, that Sound in general and Music in particular, hold great potential for revealing deeper understanding of the universe around us. Furthermore, the informed application of precise energy - in the form of sound frequencies can benefit us on many levels: emotionally, physically, intellectually and spiritually. The MIT research team attacked their work (to synthesize silk fibers in the lab), with the novel approach of replicating building-block protein molecules. The large multidisciplinary team, including engineers, biomedical experts, mathematicians and musical composers, formulated synthetic silk in a systematic manner - as a model for future synthetic material design work. They began by building a computer model of natural silk and then identified the underlying biomaterials responsible for the unique light weight, subtleness and extraordinary strength of spider silk. These researchers modified silk producing genes and created a device to copy the spider’s silk spinning organ. After extensive work, they produced a variety of synthetic silk strands. Two of the experimental
10
“silks” stand out: one of the new protein combinations yielded extremely strong silk molecules - but the catch was, these proteins did not adhere to each other as a thread - useless. The second material contained weaker protein molecules that adhered together strongly and made an excellent thread - what natural silk proteins do - success. It was not enough to produce strong proteins alone - they must interconnect properly and form a coherent strand on a large scale; there must be an cohesive architecture properly aligning and connecting the components (like a musical composition). After these initial results, the team went back to the lab to produce new silk materials. One of the new analytical tools that they employed in the development of superior silk was Music! Greatly simplifying the details... the various levels of the silk’s structure (the proteins, their relationships, and underlying structures) were translated into musical compositions. The end result: the strong silk proteins that would not form usable threads produced music that was harsh and displeasing. The proteins that formed usable fibers played as soft fluid pleasing music. The fact that the above process (based on the silk proteins) resulted in anything even remotely resembling music is remarkable; the fact that pleasing music was produced from “good” silk and harsh music resulted from “bad” silk is near miraculous. There is extensive evidence, growing for years, that demonstrates our inborn affinity for music. Infants seem to have innate musical preferences; at as early as two months babies will turn towards consonant or pleasing tones and away from dissonant sounds. Modern medical images of the brain show pleasure centers light up while listening to an orchestra play beautiful symphonies. These are the same pleasure centers that respond to sex, eating chocolate and taking cocaine. What is it about music that seems to be imprinted in our cells? One of the researchers, Markus Buehler of MIT said, “There might be an underlying structural expression in music that tells us more about the proteins that make up our bodies. After all, our organs - including the brain - are made from these building blocks, and
Feb / Mar 2013
humans’ expression of music may inadvertently include more information than we are aware of.” Music may soon tell us much more about our biology and reveal new insight into our humanity. Expanding on this, the processes that produced the biology, DNA and buildingblock proteins may be encoded in a universal song. In a separate, but strikingly similar experiment, French physicist Joel Sternheimer developed a system for converting the amino acid sequences in plant protein into music. Sternheimer found that the compositions based on these amino acid sequences produced aesthetically pleasing music. In fact, when the “song” made from a plant’s amino acids was played back to the plant, its growth rate increased markedly and its resistance to drought and disease also improved. Just as with the proteins in the spider silk, music composed from the biological building-blocks in plants was pleasing and produced positive feedback effects when played back to the plants. There is also a huge body of evidence - built up over many years - showing that the specific frequencies making up the human voice are indicative of a person’s health. Like a musical orchestra, our human speaking voice consists of a large, measurable collection of sounds - a wide spectrum of frequencies. The leading authority on analyzing the tremendous amount of information contained in the voice, Sharry Edwards, has learned to glean detailed insight into the underlying health of a person from his voiceprint. Information regarding the underlying emotional, physical, nutritional states, presence of pathogens, toxins, etc. can be detected by a trained expert of the voice. One of the consequences of Edwards’ work was the development of “Sound Treatments” that addressed underlying problems detected in a voiceprint. By listening to the appropriate frequencies the voice is restored to a healthy profile and the associated physical ailment is resolved. Going far beyond the scope of the MIT spider silk work, modern Sound experts would claim that there are voluminous examples of music reflected in the inanimate universe around us. A famous mathematical sequence - that is also found throughout nature is the Fibonacci pattern. The Fibonacci sequence is
Infinity
1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34 etc (the next number in the sequence is the sum of the two preceding numbers). Familiar examples of this pattern in nature include: the design of a nautilus seashell, petals in a flower and the human body. The Fibonacci sequence converts directly to common musical scale found around the world throughout the ages. From Ancient China to modern times sky watchers have found musical elements in the stars and other celestial bodies. The movements of the stars and planets can be expressed as “Star tones” a clear link between the Stars and musical systems, octaves and harmony. Throughout the ages there has been a consistent belief that there is a deep spiritual harmony in the design and flow of the universe. Music is literally an expression of this harmony. Sound and Music - could these be far more than what we thought them to be? As my dog knows very well - what sounds right, feels right. Music could be the universal language of nature - and deeper - mirror the grand plan that makes us and our surrounding world what we are.

A School of Thoughts... by Asha S. Mahambrey
A child and a lady are strolling through an apple orchard. The child sees a delicious red apple on a tree and asks for it, and the lady considers picking the apple and giving it to the child. She ponders for a moment. Then, the lady lifts the child higher, lowers the branch from where the apple hangs and lets the child pick the apple. The child is joyous, and says, “I did it! I picked the apple all by myself!” In a Montessori environment, the goal is to have the child experience this feeling of competence and independence in each task he/she accomplishes. The work of a Montessori teacher is to prepare the learning environment (the orchard); encourage and guide the student (lift the child higher and lower the branch); and invite the child to have a unique learning experience (pick his/her own apple). An accumulation of such experiences creates a profound sense of ‘efficacy’ - the belief and pride in one’s own abilities - and also the term from which our school’s name was derived: Effica School of Montessori. Located in the heart of Centerville, Effica’s pre-primary program is a three-year program for children ages 3-6 years old. The classroom is divided into the areas of practical life,

sensorial, language, math, science, art, geography, music and gross motor development. Each area is designed to provide a wide variety of learning experiences geared toward the developmental needs of young children. Children develop concentration, coordination, order and independence through sequenced activities involving stepby-step procedures. They first learn simple then complex activities; concrete then abstract concepts; and logical ordering and progression with Montessori materials. During the first year, students learn ground rules and how to work with materials. They acquire fine-motor, manipulative skills and build concentration using practical life activities and sensorial materials. During the second year, students build upon their basic learning, increase and refine their motor skills and are introduced to the areas of language, math, geography and science. During the kindergarten year, students continue to develop writing, reading and math skills, and work in specialized areas like geography and natural sciences. Throughout their time at our school, children also experience important social skills through their interactions with other students and teachers. They begin

Children of the World developing characteristics that will help them become successful students for life, including respect and manners, self-discipline, emotional regulation, active listening, public speaking, a sense of responsibility, and an understanding of kindness, sharing and helping others. Dr. Maria Montessori observed, “The most important period is not the age of university studies, but the first one, the period from birth to age six. For that is the time, when man’s intelligence itself, his greatest implement is being formed. But not only his intelligence, the full totality of his psychic powers is being formed... At no other age has the child greater need of intelligent help, and any obstacle that impedes his creative work will lessen the chance he has to achieving perfection.” “It is true we cannot make a genius,” she continued, “We can only give each individual the chance to fulfill his potential possibilities to become an independent, secure, and balanced human being.” Uniting with parents to give their children this precious chance is our work here at Effica School of Montessori. Welcome to our new feature, “Children of the World”! In each issue Infinity magazine will feature children of all ages spanning the globe, letting their voice be heard on various topics throughout the year. This issue, a question was presented to a few children attending the Effica Montessori School in Centerville, Oh. Question: What is the meaning of Love? The children responses were quite simple: “I love my Mommy”! “I love my Daddy”! “Love is making a goal in my soccer game”! Below is a beautiful drawing that Anna from Effica Montessori School has submitted for us, A big thank you goes out to Anna and her parents, we are honored to have Anna participate in our new feature. We also would like to thank the Effica Montessori School for being such a wonderful part of this feature. Sponsored by ArtsOlympus.org

From Divinity To Divinity Love Is
by Terrance Branner-Bullock, Spiritual Practitioner The essence and presence of Divine Love is one of the most beautiful things we can embody, express and experience. Divine Love is non-conditional. Baker Chiropractic Testimonial
Karen Tribby’s Story The start of every new year brings opportunity to make positive changes in your life. One year ago, Karen came to Baker Chiropractic looking for help with her back. Here’s her story:
medical problems and none helped. It is very frustrating for me because when you have a serious medical problem and you hear the words, “no help”, it is hard to keep your faith in doctors and people in general. To add to my problems, I have a ventro-jugular shunt that is in my skull and I was not sure if Dr. Baker had ever heard of or worked with this type of medical procedure. I was born with hydrocephalus and this is why I have the shunt. When I first met Dr. Patrick Baker and his staff, I noticed that they are very positive people and are committed to helping their patients live normal and healthy lives.
“My name is Karen Tribby and I came to Baker Chiropractic because I was having trouble with my back. I have been diagnosed with the early stages of osteoporosis and complications from having scoliosis. I went to see Dr. Patrick Baker because I noticed he helped my co-worker, Craig Boykin with his back and walking. Craig has multiple sclerosis and he has trouble with his arm being paralyzed and joints that just do not move as they should. I thought if he could help Craig, then maybe I had a chance for help. I have been to three medical doctors in the past for other
I began my road to a healthier life with Baker Chiropractic in October, 2011. It has been one year now and I have had amazing results with movement returned to my back, legs, neck and shoulders. I did not realize that these areas were being affected by my back. I will continue my road to a healthier life with Baker Chiropractic for years to come. I want to live my elderly years being healthy and very active. Thank you very much to Dr. Patrick Baker and his staff, may you continue to keep doing what you do and help people live a much healthier lifestyle!” - Karen Tribby

Love and Service by Cindy Huff & Terri Noftsger Most of us who live with animals have absolutely no doubt that our animals love us, and we them. Love is a pretty broad term, so for purposes of this discussion, let’s use the concept of love as a feeling of connection and affection between two beings. Let me further expand that definition to say that by connection, we mean a tangible emotional and energetic connection between two spirits. Note that I said that the connection is between two SPIRITS. That means that the connection is there even when the body is no longer present. Love between two spirits exists as long as those spirits believe that the connection is there, and remember each other. I promise, no more definitions! I just wanted be sure we were on the same page here (no pun intended). As typical Americans, we had to have a holiday to remind us that we love each other, to celebrate that love. Our animals, on the other hand, demonstrate their love for us every time we walk through the door, look into their eyes, or acknowledge them. Our cats may act like they are totally ignoring us, but they simply must show their love on their schedule, not ours. Dogs are a little less complicated, as are most horses. My mare calls to me every time she sees me, because that usually means there is food in her immediate future. She too is pretty uncomplicated. Some may argue that our animals show us attention and affection simply because we are the source of their food, shelter, and safety. I would disagree for a lot of reasons. First of all, because we are open and able to hear animals, we actually can sense what they feel fear, love, anxiety, anger. We experientially know that they feel love and affection. We also observe animals, and we see their capacity for love and affection between themselves, even across species. We also observe their love for humans. Service dogs trained to assist their human partners perform the tasks they are trained to do. Why? We believe that service, for them, is not just a trained response, it an act of love for their human partners. We also understand that animals greet us, move
16
towards us, and even do things that are uncomfortable and even frightening to them because they love us. Let me give you a couple of examples. Why do our dogs rush to greet us with joy when we come inside from taking out the trash, for example, even though they are not hungry or frightened? Consider horses for just a minute. I am a predator, yet my horse who is a prey animal will not only allow me to sit on top of her, she will do all sorts of things for me while I am up there that are potentially scary or uncomfortable for her like jumping a ditch or walking through water or walking past a bicyclist. She will not run away when something jumps out in front of her. She takes care of me, and she will try for me, trusting that I won’t ask her to do something that will harm her. She does this not because she is forced to, but because she loves and trusts me. Pretty amazing! I would like to suggest that we all take a moment or two every day to appreciate and celebrate the love our animals have for us, and to perhaps take a lesson from them. Love, after all, is with us 365 days a year, not just on Valentines Day! Enjoy! Cindy, Terri, Obi, Lukas, TJ, Simba, Sophia, Diana, Rohan, and Cheyenne

Fruit of the Pear
Nutrient Enriched!
The health benefits of pears are extraordinary. Pears are high in fiber and a good source of Vitamin C, E, B2, copper and potassium. Known as a hypoallergenic fruit, pears are a recommended fruit to introduce to infants.
have been used for detoxification, treating coughs, eliminating mucus and lubricating the throat. Known for their calming effects on the nervous system, adding pears to one’s daily diet is an easy way to alleviate stress.
Pears can help prevent high blood pressure and stroke, the good anti-oxidants help protect cells from being damaged by free radicals. The pectin in pears is higher than apples which is useful in helping to lower cholesterol levels.
The pears found at the supermarket will most likely not be ripe, because once they have matured, they can perish quickly. It is best to check for firmness at the stem, if it gives in to pressure, it is probably ripe for eating, if it is too soft, it will be overripe and should only be used for cooking in recipes. Pears are delicious to use in many dishes, they add a wonderful freshness to salads. Roasting and poaching pears are very common ways that enhance the flavor of pears and can be combined easily with other fruits.
It is better to eat pears with the skin, the fiber content is higher, it contributes to a healthy digestive system. It is a great snack for diabetics. Pear juice is an excellent source of providing quick and natural energy. Drinking a large glass of pear juice can boost your immune system and will reduce inflammatory conditions which can help those who suffer with painful joints. Pears

The Untruths of the Media by Paul F. Fulk,
D.C., F.A.S.A. Some time ago I wrote about how there are many lies that are dispensed on the internet. But second only to the internet is the television media and the many commercials that are paid for by the drug industry. They have many big bucks that pay the entertainers. The statement is frequently made that a product has been Approved by the FDA. Unfortunately it does not carry with it all the bad side effects of the drug. They note them in the commercials, however, some of the side effects are as bad as the disease itself. I question the value of the drugs because many of them do nothing but cost you money. It is always a matter of interest that many of the people that do the commercials are being paid fabulous amounts of money to make whatever statements the pharmaceutical companies them to make regardless of the truth. Disclaimers do not always tell all the true pictures of what bad side effects the drugs cause. There are many drugs out there being made by the pharmaceutical companies. But one should explore the fact that there are many good vitamins that will do the job that drugs were designed to do. Right now the “Flu” shots are being promoted. Unfortunately it is practically worthless. You need to inquire of the CDC in Atlanta, Georgia, and find out for yourself what is in the vaccine that is being sold for the “Flu” virus. At some locations it is Free. Would you want formaldehyde and mercury injected into your blood system? They are in the vaccine. In fact so are some of the ingredients I used to use to make detergents when I was the president of a chemical company, particularly polysorbate 80. It also contains gelatin or what is in plain Jello. Believe it or not, there is in jello or hydrolyzed protein, some ingredients that are of some value when it comes to fighting viruses. Lysine is the “key ingredient. It will make interferon which will trap viruses when they move from cell to
20
cell. Para Health Foods, Inc. has a product called Parasine that has all the ingredients in it to make Interferon. So rather than getting shots that do not work, why not let your body do what it knows how to do, if it has all the ingredients to make interferon. This is what we need to protect ourselves from viruses. (Phone number 1-937-434-8066) This was a well known fact in an old medical text call “Boyds Pathology”. Interesting enough is that what was in Boyds Pathology, is not in the currently used pathology books used in medical schools today. That would make it very simple for us to protect our immune system. It would keep Big Pharma out of the picture and keep people out of the hospital. Depression is another big condition that has been attacked by Big Pharma. In essence it is a matter of getting the pineal gland in your head to function. The pineal gland controls the hypothalamus (computer center) that tells the pituitary gland what hormones to stimulate in order to make your body do what the Good Lord designed it to do. Unfortunately the pineal gland can be easily shut down by a yeast bacteria in the blood called “candida albicans”. When the pineal does not do what it needs to be doing, the whole body function suffers. Depression is the end result. There is a way to get candida out of the blood stream and back into the small intestine where it belongs. It’s job is the absorption of “B” vitamins in the small intestine. The German medical community have been doing this for more than sixty years. Dr. Hans Nieper, (deceased) formerly of Hanover, Germany, taught me how they have been doing so and what they have been using. Arthritis and all it’s forms is a form of candida as is cancer, lymphoma and leukemia. According to Dr. F. C. Odds, of England, there are 150 different forms of candida albicans in the blood stream. For
Feb / Mar 2013
some reason the candida buds like to tear the red and white blood cells apart. In doing so, the immune system gets depleted. This process will ultimately cause lymphomas and leukemia. Dr. Simoncini, of Rome, Italy, has written a book by the title, Cancer is a Fungus. Lots of information about his work is available on the internet. He has been very successful treating cancer without using chemo therapy. He discovered that cancer is candida albicans in one of it’s forms. His method of treatment takes away from the 200 billion dollar business of treating cancer that is here in the United States. Copyright 2013 Paul F. Fulk, D.C.,F.A.S.A.

Ask and You Will Receive Knock and the Door Shall Be Opened Unto You
by Michael McAdams The expressed conscious desire to receive and interact with our spirit teachers/angels is the key that opens the door to these communications that are available to us all. Whether this desire is expressed in thought, in prayer, or in writing the decision to reach out with our consciousness for the help, guidance, and direction available from God’s direct representatives is a personal decision that must be made of our own free will. Within our consciousness resides the source and center of the fragment of God given to us as our birthright. We need only turn our consciousness toward this light of mercy and grace to take advantage of the information that is offered unconditionally. This ability to receive messages and teachings from our spirit teachers/angels is a natural ability available to all whom with an attitude of humbleness and humility of spirit sincerely seek access to divinely inspired information. If you have a biblical and religious background you will have been taught of a guardian angel watching over you. If you have a more spiritual background you will have learned of spirit guides, spirit teachers, and master teachers working with you. If you are a reader of the Urantia Book you will have learned of a personalized thought adjuster that has been assigned to you for guidance and moral strength. All of these spiritual beings are God’s direct representatives with the assigned task of helping us, guiding us, and leading us upon our journey in such a manner that lessons are learned, life’s circumstances are overcome, and choices and decisions are made that gain for us an advantage allowing us to walk an ever ascending pathway of success and accomplishment in this lifetime with hardship and difficulties kept to a minimum. The difficulties that we do encounter are most always because we have made choices and decisions
22
counter to our conscience or in defiance of that which we know in our hearts is not the correct choice or decision. Granted there will always be those instances of health issues and accidents in time that may arise. Each challenge is an opportunity to “test the spirit” and engage our teachers for the perspective and purpose of this event and how we are to learn and grow from it. What doesn’t kill us truly does make us stronger. We have been given the gift of free will. As stated in a previous article: “Will is the deliberate choice of a spirit conscious being which leads to decision-conduct based upon intelligent reflection.” We should strive always to apply this definition to the decisions and choices that we make and consideration for the consequences of our actions will be the element in this process that is the determining factor in the high calling of the objectives that we seek. We sometimes find ourselves at the mercy of decisions made by those whom we have chosen to align ourselves. Whether they are friends, companions, business associates, or spouse they too have been given their gift of free will and that interaction in dealing with their choices affects the manner in which we respond and view our position in this equation. Such is life. You have the ability to engage our Heavenly Father and petition His help and guidance and the help and guidance of His direct representatives in all matters pertaining to your welfare. That free will choice and petition must be made by you alone. It is your desire as a spirit conscious being to deliberately align your will with God’s will for your existence that enables this channel of communication to be opened. Ask and you will receive. Knock and the door shall be opened unto you. From the Urantia Book comes this discourse on God’s relationship to the individual: “The Father is not in spiritual hiding, but so many
Feb / Mar 2013
of His children have hidden themselves away in the mists for their own willful decisions and for the time being have separated themselves from the communion of His spirit and the spirit of His Son by the choosing of their own perverse ways and by the indulgence of the self-assertiveness of their intolerant minds and unspiritual natures.” “Mortal man may draw near God and may repeatedly forsake the divine will so long as the power of choice remains. Man’s final doom is not sealed until he has lost the power to choose the Father’s will. There is never a closure of the Father’s heart to the need and petition of His children. Only do His offspring close their hearts forever to the Father’s drawing power when they finally and forever lose the desire to do His divine will – to know Him and to be like Him. Likewise is man’s eternal destiny assured when Adjuster fusion proclaims to the universe that such an ascender has made the final and irrevocable choice to live the Father’s will.” “God makes direct contact with mortal man and gives a part of His infinite and eternal and incomprehensible self to live and dwell within him. God has embarked upon the eternal adventure with man. If you yield to the leadings of the spiritual forces in you and around you, you cannot fail to attain the high destiny established by a loving God as the universe goal of His ascendant creatures.” Copyright 2013 About the author: Michael offers a set of his own writings called Spiritual Parchment Prints as a fundraising item for youth groups for churches and to the public. Don’t Stop Chasing Your Dream! by John Boe
In the mid 1970s, a man named Sylvester had a dream of one day becoming a movie actor, but couldn’t find a talent agency in New York City willing to take a chance on him. After being turned down by hundreds of agencies, he was so broke that he couldn’t afford to pay the heating bill in his apartment. It got to the point where he couldn’t even buy food for his dog and was forced to sell him to a stranger for $25. Sylvester and his wife argued constantly about their lack of money and she wanted him to give up his dream and get a job to pay the bills. Two weeks after he sold his dog, he watched a boxing match between Muhammad Ali and “The White Hope” Chuck Wepner. For 15 rounds, Wepner battled the champ and took the best that Ali could dish out, but would not give up. Sylvester was so moved by Wepner’s display of passion to keep fighting that he
24
began writing a movie script immediately after the fight was over. He wrote continuously for twenty straight hours and finished the script in one sitting. Over the next several weeks, he showed his boxing script to a number of movie producers, but was rejected each time and told that his script was sappy and too predictable. Finally, Sylvester found a producer who liked what he had written and offered to buy the script for $125,000. He agreed to sell the script, but only if he was allowed to play the starring role in the movie. The producer told him that there was no way on earth he would let an unknown actor star in the movie, so Sylvester turned down the offer and walked away. The producer really liked the script and called him back a couple of weeks later with an offer of $250,000, but like before, refused to let him have the starring role in the movie.
Feb / Mar 2013
Victory of Light Expo Once again, Sylvester turned him down. The producer then offered a staggering sum of $325,000 for the script without him in the movie and again, Sylvester refused to sell the script. Eventually the producer agreed to take a chance and let Sylvester play the starring role in the movie, but would only pay him $35,000. Once Sylvester was paid the $35,000, he went back to the liquor store where he had sold his dog weeks earlier with the hope of finding the man and buying back his best friend. After waiting outside the store for three days, he found the man and offered him $500 to buy his dog back. The man rejected that offer, but eventually sold the dog back to Sylvester for $15,000 and a part in the movie. The name of the movie was Rocky and it won the Academy Award for Best Picture of 1976 and turned Sylvester Stallone into one of Hollywood’s biggest movie stars. “A little more persistence, a little more effort, and what seemed hopeless failure may turn into glorious success.” Elbert Hubbard Come witness the motivational wisdom and energy of John Boe workshop “Habits of Highly Effective People” at Agape Journey of Awakening on Sunday, March 3rd from 11 am to 12:30 pm – Cost Free (Love offerings are welcome) Quality Inn Hotel - 250 Byers Road – Miamisburg, Ohio – For more information call 937-397-2668.

Winter’s Water Element by Tommy R. Thompson, DC, NMD, LaC The long haul of winter is now with us. The holiday hustle and bustle is behind us, we consume rich foods, and drink with large doses of calories has set many people back. A weight gain of up to 10 lbs. is not uncommon. So we see a huge spike in activity so we can burn off excess calories, there is an increase in diet and activity to shed those extra pounds. The winter element of the 5 element theory in Asian medicine can predict many symptoms from this time of year. These symptoms can range from back and bone pain, loss of energy, difficult to get up in the AM, feelings of fear and dread, loss of head hair. Also we add the stress of what the next year is going to be for us. Let us review the concept of Chi and its seasonal cycles. The reduction of Chi in the body at this time of the year, winter element, is likened to a 4 lane highway (highest cycle of chi is the summer/Fire element) that is reduced to one lane. It is the time of recovery and repair as the cycle starts a new and starts to accelerate. The winter equinox was 12/21 when day and night is equal, now slowly as the days are getting longer the energy increases, as the planet begins tilting on its axis and the gravitational frequency increases up from 1-2 Hz frequency to 8-10 Hz in the fire element of summer on the northern hemisphere. So if we want to look at a seasonal change and its effect on the human body as well as abundantly obvious this effect has on nature. The push of energy can be seen in the spring (wood element) as snow melts and flows to the streams, river, and the new growth can be seen, birds and people migrating and many changes 26
we look forward to as we come out of the winter into spring. The daily cycle, or Circadian rhythm in the west or the Horary cycle in the east; these daily cycles in conjunction to yearly timing can help diagnosis and treat. With winter the “water element’; say you have low back pain and awaken every night between 3:00-5:am with afternoon fatigue 3:00-5:00 pm, achy back bones and joints a noticeable amount of head hair falls when you shower. This is in the “12 hour rule” every 12 hours the timing is the same there can be variations because the other 4 elements can play a part in the manifestation of symptoms. Patients need to understand if you are taking drugs for your conditions especially psychotropic for depression or anxiety, because your symptoms are in your head (so they say, the Hypothalamus works strangely like that), and you have been taking them for years, treatments need time and commitment, some people understand this, others go back to the drugs because they have damaged their natural rhythms of their body, being overweight, poor sleeping habits, over thinking, surgery, poor digestion and poor quality of food in their diets make them jump out of the life boat after 1 or 2 treatments. The Asians who master health says” one needs to sleep well, think well, eat well, and eliminate well”. Please understand just because your insurance company pays for your drugs doesn’t make it health. The number one thing Americans can’t take is INCONVENIENCE if it doesn’t miraculous fix them after a few visit they make excuses and are looking for the next one magic cheapest Feb / Mar 2013
bullet for the quick fix. Good luck! For every year of drug use, excessive weight, over eating, failed surgeries, expect some time to recover. If you wanted to slim down and tone muscles would 1-2 trips to the gym fix that? Of course not, if you visit the local gym this is why they sell memberships. I always thought it was funny to see people scrambling to get a close parking space to go into the gym just to walk on the treadmill!

Astrology by Mary
Aquarius January 19 – February 18
You are really in the midst of unusual patterns in your life, the most significant of which is embracing more of your spiritual gifts which defy your usual need to “understand” everything. Accept them without question as they will increase your talents ten-fold. Many new ideas are showing up, and you may want to write down your Insights. The need to redefine your career is coming into place, and/or some parent concerns could show up. Don’t forget to pay the bills – make a list here.
i
Pisces February 18 – March 20
_
Taurus April 19 – May 20
In your solar wheel, there is great activity in matters relating to career, friends, groups, etc. You will vacillate between friends and family members who will all be in need of your very comforting presence. You will take them all in stride, but don’t forget that you too need some reassuring time as well. In this time frame, you could be interested in following some important, long-term learning procedures. If so, be aware that what you learn will be very helpful to you for the rest of your life.
`
Gemini May 20 – June 21
This period of the year you are more than ever aware of your spiritual gifts, which are escalating rapidly. Don’t lose sight of balancing the physical with better nutrition. Mercury will be retrograde in your pocketbook, so take the time to go over the bills and keep up with payments due. Finances are not your long suit, but especially now you may be forgetful. Conditions with home, family and/or parents may require more attention.
This is a very busy time for you, as transiting Jupiter is in your sign, bringing more learning, travel and information. February in particular opens some new doors, as well as bringing in new friends. However, there are indications of some problems (likely health) with parent figures. Also that area of the chart could encompass your feeling to change careers or being pushed in that direction. Be especially aware that not all events are under your control, so give in gracefully to matters that are inevitable.

Aries March 20 – April 19
This period begins with some concern about loved ones who may be ill. Watch your own health, as you may be blind-sided with some infection. On the plus side you will soon be pushing the river along in your very energetic way, and there will be lots of information or travel coming in. Mars, your ruling planet, is in your sign, and is definitely lighting a fire under you. Do be aware that your career, status in life is undergoing a transformation and that the old order is going and a new one is under way.

Cancer June 22-July 22
For you Moon Children, this next period looks very promising in terms of romance and enjoyment. There may be invitations or news coming from long distances, or some may find themselves by the deep blue sea! For others, there could be disturbing news about a parent’s health. For those of you who go to work every day, you may be thinking of changing jobs, or perhaps the job is changing around you. A new boss or a new owner could show up. There will be sudden news about finances or income.

b
Leo July 22 – August 22
This whole period for you, Leo, has you more or less looking into mirrors! Basically, there are many people out there that you are dealing with who have great ideas. However, in the meantime, the area of the chart that speaks of money – earned and spent, is particularly like a merry-go-round, so relax and learn to roll with the punches. The new moon early March will bring this into high focus. The labor area is going through a restructuring as well as home, and as usual, Leo loves to deal with a challenge!
c
Virgo August 22 – September 22
This period brings a great deal of interaction with other people, whether best friends, partners, or even counselors of some kind. This will be doubly true because your ruling planet, Mercury, is in that mix. Some may truly need your assistance, but be careful that you are not being used because of your willingness to help. Changes going on in the work place could bring about some unexpected income, and there is a possibility you could be required to learn some new task. Not a problem for you, as you thrive on making order out of chaos.
d
Libra September 22 – October 23
For you this period begins with some exciting activity which could be new romance, or may encompass exciting news for one of your children. There also could be unexpected fun with friends and partners. You may find yourself either redesigning the home, or rethinking your role as a parent. Some cautionary energy shows up either in your health picture or your work scene. No matter, it says please pay attention and get all the rest that you need. You are also analyzing the expense pattern – as is everyone else!
e Scorpio
October 23 – November 21
At this point with Saturn transiting your sign, you are truly beginning to understand how Saturn behaves. It always points out what can no longer be ignored, and for some it will be health conditions (have been building up), or for others may point out issues with siblings, and at the very least, some obligations to various government agencies. Home and family are

quite important, and there may be concerns about some of the young children. No matter, you will be there like a rock to see it all resolved.
f
Sagittarius November 22–December 21
Early in this period you may be exploring new ideas or getting unexpected news. Then as the next month comes In there is a tremendous amount of concern over home. “Home” can mean literally where we live or also the role of being a parent, or having a parent. Life appears to be a bit more serious than you would like it to be, but there is always something to be understood and accepted when we meet with destiny. You have many guides and angels to help you.
g
Capricorn December 21 – January 19
Your ruling planet, Saturn, is going Retrograde midmonth and will remain that way till July. This will be a great time to redefine your goals, and accept that you are looking forward to a new you, when you realize what you have learned from the past. You may be flexing some spiritual muscles and/or relatives need a bit of help. Some may notice that the old car just won’t go anymore! There may be actual building and fixing on the home front.
