Our neighbor, Amy Flint, so graciously let us have a tour of her lovely flower garden with plenty of rare blooms to enjoy! These flowers were popular many years ago, especially in the Victorian era. They have a magical and mystical quality to them with their fern-like leaves and exquisite petals. Our thanks go to Amy for sharing such rare beauty in her special garden.

Peace in Small Bits by Cynthia M. Brown

The world is a crazy place these days. I used to be a news reporter and a total news junkie. Now, I cannot make myself even listen to headlines on the car radio. The 24 hour news cycle means one can never escape the world, not even for a few minutes. I used to think I could make a difference in the world-I worked for causes and had big ideas about my place in the world. I am in a different place now. I spend a lot of time driving in silence in my car rather than turning on the radio to be bombarded by the latest high alert and hysteria-zicka virus, North Korean missile tests, Russian collusion, democracy hating immigrants...I am not certain any of us can really make a difference in the larger world. It is controlled by rapacious corporations and a small circle of multi-billionaires. What I do know is this: The silence of the early morning on a porch overlooking a garden is souls

restoring. A swim as the sun rises and the moon is setting is a glorious moment of tranquility. The ocean washing away the sand beneath my heels is pure bliss. I do know holding hands with my partner as I fall asleep is hope and prayer and the joyful antics of my dog when I arrive home makes my heart smile. We live in a world that is violent, addicted and becoming more and more soulless. I find myself less interested in saving the masses and more interested in salvaging my own sanity. Matthew Fox once said a society constantly preparing for war is a hopeless society. A society without hope is an addicted society. We continue to look outside ourselves to find solutions to our soul’s yearnings. More gadgets, fancier cars, more pills, newer diets, surgeries etc. will give us hope. Pretending to cheat the natural order of things by using age defying creams will not keep death from our door.

Aug / Sept 2017

I am certain I will die. I am certain everyone I love will die. I am not afraid of aging. In fact, as a cancer survivor, I am happy to age each and every day, even when my body’s slowing down is frustrating. I have hope because there is a natural order in things. I have hope because my dog loves me unconditionally. I have hope because I have a partner who loves me that I can hold hands with in the dark. I have hope because my son is a good man who cares about people and things and who follows his heart and passion even if it is out of step with a lot of the world. No one escapes the rages of time and the ultimate destiny of this mortal life. All of us have moments of joy to savor. All of us have the sunrise and the silence of the forest, the seeming infinity of the ocean’s edge. Sometimes, there really is “no there, there.” Sometimes it is all right here. We just need to take a moment to take it in, no matter how small; no matter how fleeting. About the Author: Cynthia M. Brown is a culinary genius and midwife of the local food revolution. for the Real World with Sage Woman

Dear Sage Woman, I often feel scattered and stressed. How can I be more at peace with myself? James. D _____________ Blessings to you James,

mind may be racing in many different directions. To quiet the mind, it can help to find and connect with your center.

When you feel scattered and stressed, your mind and emotions are signaling overload. An overload can come from the whirl of exterior responsibilities and/or the pain of inner conflict. Often we spread ourselves in too many directions. Be gentle with yourself and remember you can only do one thing well at a time. It may sound obvious, but many times we ignore the obvious, especially when we are on overload.

James, I want to share a prayer I have prayed for years and it is magical. I say these words at least once a day.

Often, we define peacefulness by the absence of stress, a neutral, inactive state. However, peace can also be described as increased inner clarity, a feeling of inner calm, and a deeper sense of inner balance.

A Prayer to Heal Stress

The next time you find yourself in a state of worry, take a time-out, stop and sit quietly for just a couple of moments. Take a few breaths - deeper than normal. Do this with the intention of creating a new habit. A habit of inner ease, letting go of the old unhealthy pattern of worry. Connecting with others who share a desire to create more inner peace and give back to the world can increase your feelings of purpose, and in turn, inner calm. Consider signing up for a pray group, yoga or meditation class. Every day brings a clear choice: to practice stress or to practice peace. When you stay focused on living in the now and being in gratitude you begin to attract more to be in gratitude for. Let go of what you cannot control. When you’re stressed and lose your center, your mind and body disconnect. While your body is in the present, your

Heavenly Father, please grant me peace of mind and calm my troubled heart. My soul is like a turbulent sea. I can’t seem to find my balance so I stumble and worry constantly. Give me the strength and clarity of mind to find my purpose and walk the path you’ve laid out for me. I trust your Love God, and know that you will heal this stress. Just as the sun rises each day against the dark of night. Please bring me clarity with the light of God. In your name I pray. Amen.

Self-Made Prisons by Wayne Holmes Wayne Holmes’ Set Your Course shares six months of reflections that will give readers a path to spiritual freedom and help them connect to their soul and inner spirit. Not only does it provide healing from past religious abuse, but also abuse of nearly any form, and beyond that, it provides a path towards taking solid control of one’s religious and spiritual journey.

Many people are held captive in prisons of their own making. At times we see only the darkness and the reason might be because we have imprisoned ourselves and blocked the Light from entering our pitiful cell. We are not the victims of the world unless we decide to be victims. Our freewill allows us to decide whether or not to remain imprisoned or to break free. No one else can decide for us.

All we have to do is decide we want to live in freedom and make our request know to Divine Spirit. Be assured that every request is heard and answered, and Divine Spirit’s answer is just the one we really want. We can choose to live in prison, or we can decide to live free of guilt, shame, and the feeling of separation — separation from The Divine and from one another.

It wasn’t until I donned a clerical collar that I came to understand how people viewed religious leaders differently. Some were comforted by my presence while others seemed ill at ease. “Before long I realized that many had been damaged through judgment, guilt, rejection, and condemnation by a religion or by someone religious. I’m happy to report that these people do not have to languish in fear, depression, or resentment. “In Every Path Leads Home, Wayne Holmes has created a brilliant and very gentle way out of religious abuse and intolerance into peace, happiness, and personal freedom. “It is a way to heal us all. –Rev. Mr. Holmes’ words resonate way beyond the printed page—they vibrate within your heart as truth. I absolutely LOVE this book! It is the best bridge I have seen joining traditional religion, spirituality, and the spiritual nature of us all. “The integrity of the author in revealing his own story is authentic, reminding me of the humanness of all of our experiences. I felt wrapped in the arms of loving kindness throughout the whole book. I predict this book will enlighten all who read it.

Wayne Holmes’ Every Path Leads Home is a beautiful book of acceptance. Our lives on this plane of existence are of short duration, and we are all “headed home. Different faith experiences define “home differently, and each suggests a path or paths. For anyone who has been abused by the supposed rules and strictures of a church or congregation or pastor, for anyone who has come to see religion not as a faith experience but rather as a set of ironclad rules, for anyone who has grown weary of the struggle to find God by whatever name: Every Path Leads Home is a must-read.

Every Path Leads Home:

We were intended to be free, and yet we entered into prisons of our own making. Prisons of fear, worry, selfishness, greed, and hatred. At all times, and in all ways, we have the keys to unlock the prison doors and walk away, because for every lock there is a key. For every fear there is always love. For each worry there is divine peace. For selfishness there is gratitude and kindness. And for hatred there is love.

TVoice, he Emergence of Self through Movement, and Creativity by Patti Lightflower “…the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” Anaïs Nin In nature, the antidote is often somewhere in the same environment as the toxin, such as how plantain herb grows near poison ivy. This suggests that the place to look for most of life’s solutions is nearby. “Know thyself.” is a familiar quote, as is “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” or “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” This sounds simple. But who is this self and what is its purpose? Is it what some refer to distastefully as one’s ego? If society pressures us to hide our egos how do we siphon out our self from our ego? Over the past few years I’ve had an opportunity to share with like-hearted women working together in movement, voice, drumming and creativity not really knowing where the journey was leading but ready to explore and see what or who would emerge. Soul Crafting was initially created by me and Sage Woman with the intention to invite others in the

8

area to come together to openly and freely express ourselves through drumming, guided meditation, free flowing movement and creativity. From the beginning, Jane Phillips, who joined our small group early on, felt while in our drumming and meditation circle that there was something new emerging within her, but she couldn’t yet put her finger on what it was. Lives change, the great wheel turns, and Sage moved to Texas leaving the remaining two of us to continue with the already advertised drumming and meditation circles. The Lebanon Elemental Om studio, where we met, experienced the building being sold without notice and we had to find a new location to meet. We flowed with the changes. For now, it’s my cozy living room that reverberates monthly with lively drumming and relaxing meditation as we carry on watching with childlike wonder and anticipation as to what might be emerging. One of the keys to manifesting things in your life that will support your path is to act in accordance. This means to involve yourself, accept opportunities

and allow yourself space to grow in the direction of your hopes, dreams, plans and wishes. Not long after co-creating Soul Crafting, I received an email invitation to join a group of women dancers that was already in progress. I’ve always loved movement and dancing but never was very good at following a strict choreographed piece – even in aerobics classes, I was frequently going the other direction from the group. I wasn’t sure if I could really do this, but my heart was so excited by the idea and the description that I immediately said yes. From these gatherings arose another trio of women which included Lisa Thornbury and Sarah Gallant. Here they share their stories of our emergence. Sarah: When I read Lisa’s original email query asking for interested persons for an Archetypal Emergence Dance Group, my heart leapt for joy and I needed to at least try it, even though I had never done anything like this before. The creativity that comes from collaborating with Lisa and Patti is phenomenal! I so appreciate the opportunity to learn and grow and experience in this way. I feel excitement and anticipation about each project and can feel how stepping out of my comfort zone a bit has opened new doors. It’s such a gift to find collaborative conscious connections where competition does not exist - and where compassion, creativity, mutual support, and serious fun flourish - a sacred garden indeed! Many years ago I painted a painting called “Forever Dancing in My Mind”. I’ve always loved watching dance of all kinds (and felt like a dancer inside) while simultaneously feeling that claiming my “dancer self” openly and outwardly is something that I could never do! It’s so freeing to open to this form of expression. Lisa’s gentle and skilled guidance and vision and her openness and desire to honor each individual expression within a group is such a blessing, I’ve learned a lot about what brings me joy – we have so much fun! Dancing with Lisa and Patti has helped me to lose selfconsciousness and to become fully immersed in the

experience even with a video camera on – I feel the connection of movement with rhythm, sound, color, collage, the earth and stars, all I’ve been interested in. All comes together in the dance of life. Dance is such a beautiful metaphor for living life; Life as Art. I love thinking and feeling and creating in terms of “dancing life”; Living as the Flow. There is nothing quite like flowing through a beautiful lavender field with a gorgeous silk veil billowing in the breeze field or dancing under majestic trees held tenderly by their roots while being drawn upward by branches reaching toward the sky! www.loominosity. net “…if I ever go looking for my heart’s desire again, I won’t look any further than my own backyard. Because if it isn’t there, I never really lost it to begin with! ~ Dorothy, Wizard of Oz Patti: One of the things I’ve cherished the most in these experiences is that although we do have goals in mind, without really planning it, we’ve taken the time to be in the moment along each step of the way. Without a sense of urgency, unless we’re rehearsing for a performance, we enjoy the creativity and spontaneous inspirations of the moment. Dancing with the veils is a liberating experience. There’s something magical about the floating and flowing silk that makes it hard to stand still once you’ve picked one up. Dyeing the silk is an alchemical, hands-on experience involving both immersion and emergence resulting in a visible molecular transformation. Dancing with Lisa and Sarah has allowed the inner dancer in me to be expressed through verse, rhythm and movement in a circle of trust and friendship. We do dance in our own backyards, too. Lisa: I have loved dancing and movement for many years, and have taught Middle Eastern dance (bellydance) in the past. I have always loved the transformational experience of dance, both within myself, and by

9

witnessing transformation in other women as they allow their dance journey to unfold. I believe that we all have beautiful gifts within, and dancing is one way to birth and blossom our potential. About 15 years ago, I started incorporating spiritual expression and personal exploration more and more into my dance and what I offered the community. My own dance style has evolved into a fusion style of bellydance, qigong like movements and freeform personal expression. One of the projects I worked on resulted in a beautiful collaborative exploration of Maiden, Mother, Midwoman, and Crone, culminating into a moving meditation video with a script. These archetypes are so potent, and exploring them through movement and dance has reinforced deeply within me that our bodies and our experiences carry so much wisdom. Because this project was such a powerful experience for our small group of dancers, and we received a lot of positive feedback from others, we decided to send out a call for more dancers to create an expanded version of the moving meditation. Three additional dancers joined the group, including Patti and Sarah. We met at least monthly, and played with each archetype. We added the Wise Woman and the Alchemical Goddess archetypes and performed this wonderful expansion piece at the Victory of Light Festival. Our meetings were something I looked forward to and still cherish very much. We laughed, shared stories, played with these wonderful archetypes, shared meals together, supported each other through hard times, and some of us didn’t want to stop after the VOL performance! We began exploring other themes, such as water, fire, dancing with veils through lavender fields, crone and tree wisdom. We danced and filmed some of these experiences outside, adding a strong nature connection to our dance. Patti, Sarah and I became the ongoing members that have remained in this energy of dance and movement archetypal exploration. Other beautiful dancers have joined and left the group when their time of exploration was completed. And we allow the flow of change and growth to continue to move and inspire our group. We have honored the times where one of us was not able to participate. We have each communicated when we needed to take care of other things going on in our lives. We have honored the cycles of creativity,

10

retreat, self-care, and attention to other details of life. We have consoled each other through hard times and shared happiness and joy through the good times and epiphanies we have. This allowing within ourselves to be just where we are at and to uncover our authentic selves as we evolve as individuals and as a group, has been more empowering and healing to me than I can express through words. I would have to move and dance to more fully express to Patti and Sarah how much their support and collaboration have meant to me. What is next for our group? We are planning a workshop which will incorporate our unique style of movement and dance exploration, combined with simple art processes, meditation and guided imagery, and yes, even creating your own unique dyed veil! There will most assuredly be lots of laughter and joy along the way as we explore the beautiful dancer we all have inside. For more information visit: www. inner-dancer.com Patti: For almost four years Jane and I have been meeting on the last Sunday of nearly every month. What has evolved over these years besides a wonderful friendship is a relaxing guided meditation written by Jane followed by drumming first by me and then we are joined in the drumming by others who have come to join us. At times it has only been just us two enjoying tea, sweet breads, conversation, meditation and drumming. After an hour or so, the energy has wonderfully shifted and there is a feeling of renewal and ready to start the new month ahead. Without really planning it, by walking along this path, we have both become more confident, more prepared and have greater awareness and appreciation in creating a relaxing and rejuvenating experience through guided imagery and journeying as well as releasing stress and tension through drumming. Recently I read an article about research that showed that our hands and feet send signals to our brains when we are using them. When we get up and move and when we work with our hands, our brains receive the message that we are active and functioning. When we’re inactive these messages are sent less often and the brain reflects this inactivity. Dancing and drumming are excellent paths to feeling vital and healthy. www.ireadhands.com

Jane: Recently, I had the wonderful experience celebrating a milestone birthday as one may call it. For the first time on my birthday I reflected back on my life. My, it has indeed been an adventure. I am thankful for so much I have learned and for the people I have met in my lifetime who have shared many things with me, love, laughter, friendship, and most importantly, their wisdom. I began to visualize the future of the rest of my life as well, asking myself what else do I need to accomplish. What can I do to make a difference? The answer lies deep in my soul, it is to honor myself first before I can serve others. Taking care of this body that has carried me through some pretty tough patches, I always endured and I will continue to nourish it and be mindful of what I can do to stay healthy and thrive. Keeping stress at bay through calming my spirit is paramount. Meditation is the key and can help to obtain the inner peace that I am longing for and when I need to recharge, refresh and help others when they need a hug, a shoulder to cry on or to just be one with spirit. During guided meditation, it is invigorating to connect to your inner spirit. The feeling of peace and serenity surround you like a gentle hug, stress just melts away. You will walk away with a feeling of relaxation, peacefulness and well-being. Meditation is essential for a healthy mind and body connection, a feeling of wholeness. Come and share the experience with us at The Last Sunday Guided Meditation and Drumming! Each meditation is created for visualization and synchronized to music. Take a small part of your day to relax and enjoy a soothing, healing space in time. With the closing of each meditation, Patti begins a beautiful drumming, you can join in or simply listen. We welcome you to explore the possibilities for an awakening of your spirit! issuu.com/infinitymagazine In closing: When I began this article, I wasn’t sure how to proceed. I wanted it to feel like a conversation that you were a part of and felt invited and welcomed. I asked everyone to give me soundbites and I’d lace together the bits and pieces. But, writing has a way of taking on a life of its own and this is what emerged.

TSafety, ogether for Peace, Respect, and Dignity for All by Cynthia, White Flower For every day that is “normal” I consider myself fortunate. Regardless of the challenges and complications in my life, I am grateful. I awaken from a night’s sleep to look into the eyes of the people I love, to hear their voices and to share their day. I am excited because I have another day to go about my normal routine. My life can change within the blink of an instant. Look at 9-11 and how the world has transformed as a result of that tragedy… But I am not alone. I belong to the “family” of humans. At the end of the day, we all want the same basic things: peace, respect, safety and dignity for all. Those who have formed the world system that exists today make up 1% of the population. This is great because the 99% of us can use our thoughts, intentions, prayers and energies to create a world of peace, respect, safety and dignity together. We simply must make the choice to act consciously and collectively. Our thoughts blended with emotion - creates. Whatever we allow into our consciousness – becomes our world. It manifests at some level. At the most minute level, it circles back to us like a boomerang. Take the thought blended with an emotion of love that you are sending out to

12

someone special: It leaves you and collects more love, lands where you sent it and comes back and lands in you, having gathered more love. All thoughts follow this pattern, so we are a part of our thoughts and they are a part of us. Just think of the possibilities if we use our thoughts collectively to build good in this world! The first step begins with us, the individual. There is no other way! We can no longer afford to put it off. Let’s start with peace. Peace begins within. We must quiet ourselves to feel the tranquility. Where there is peace, there is clarity. We need clarity now more than ever. Being at peace allows us to be in the moment- the NOW. To be fully present allows us to see more. Peace strengthens our ability to make the next decision from a place of personal stability. To be at peace is to follow your program and not someone else’s. We must create a place of peace within ourselves to begin to make a difference. It is as simple as breathing. Remove distractions, turn off your cell phone and take a breath. Close your eyes and take another. Let your next breath be filed with your favorite color. See it filling your body. With the next

breath, hold that color and let it circulate throughout your body. As you consciously exhale, put in an aspect of concern and let it go. Continue this exercise, changing the colors and breathing deeper. Feel the peace envelope your form as you just consciously take control of your life. This can be done daily and with our stress level, several times a day would be of benefit. Enhance it with meditation music and the sounds in nature. We can scrunch our toes in the grass and feel our connection to Mother Earth as we breathe in the blessings of peace. We must consciously bring calm into our lives by allowing ourselves to have peace within our own personal space. Breathe! Creating a peaceful environment is important too. As we establish and maintain peace within, but allow electrical signals to continue to bombard us, our peace will only be temporary. At night, we can control this by disconnecting all devices that continue to emit: televisions, computers, tablets, cell phones. Create an environment of solitude. Respect begins with the understanding that we are all individuals experiencing life from our own unique world which is inspired by who we are and therefore what we draw in, who we choose to be, our decisions, our actions and our reactions. Simply put: we are where we are. To respect one another’s differences is to acknowledge that it is okay to be different. This concept is at home in Nature. The beauty of being unique can be compared to the many different flowers in a field. They all need the same things to survive, water, sunlight, etc., but still maintain their individuality- as do we. We humans have more in common on a base level, as the flowers do. We are separate but we are also one. One humanity. We are in this together. Respect begins within. We must respect ourselves first. How? Forgive yourself. You can start again. Forgive the past. It has helped you to be who you are today. Release guilt. It is a ball and chain that keeps you bound to old ideas that eat away at you and keeps you from going forward. Release fear. By marveling at the magnificence of this moment, there is no room for fear. Take the word “should” out of your vocabulary. It chains you to someone else’s expectations. Love yourself. Be good to yourself! Eat healthy, drink pure, think positive and control your thoughts and emotions. Ask yourself, “Am I a part of the problem or am I part of the solution?” Genesis 1:27 in The Bible says that we are made in the image and likeness of God. Respect the faith put into this design and strive for higher consciousness. Judgement is a disease that we have to work hard to stop doing. It keeps us bonded to the cycle of judgement. It is impossible to thoroughly understand what motivates anyone. If we are not living their lives, how can we even begin to understand

them? We are constantly discovering who we are, how we feel and what we are all about. And life is full of surprises. Just when we think we know everything about ourselves, some situation comes up to shatter some preconception and we learn more about who we are! If we take the time we are blessed with to focus on making ourselves better, we won’t have time to judge anyone. Realistically, our days are numbered. Respect is the opposite of judgement. Is it possible for anyone to really know who you are, where you are mentally, emotionally, psychologically, karmically? Does it matter when we are responsible for ourselves first and foremost? Judgment is a waste of time and takes away from you becoming all that you can in the time allotted you in this lifetime. Respect yourself. Respect your human family. We are all we have! Today we are safe and the system stands. We only have today to make a difference. All lives matter. Instead of totally relying on the system, let’s put our 99% of co-creative consciousness together into thoughts, prayers, intentions- of being safe. If we give this concept of safety 5 minutes of our day, we can make a difference. Will you commit? Will you do it? Take the word “try” out of your vocabulary. Try to touch your nose. Oh! You did it! As you see, we either do, or do not. There is no “try.” That is an excuse. Will you help your human family to be safe? Remember we are created in the “image and likeness” of “God” which gives us the power to create. Since we are creating anyway with our thoughts, whether consciously or unconsciously, let’s take responsibility and move into a place of safety consciously and energetically together. Dignity for all. Webster’s Dictionary defines “dignity” as “the state or quality of being worthy of honor or respect.” Genesis 1:28 says that the human was given dominion, sovereignty, control over the Earth, which is responsibility. It is our duty to take responsibility for the state our planet is in and for the peace, respect, safety and dignity for our human family. Let’s go within and live what is in our hearts. That is where the honor lives. Live the truth – not the lie. Money does not fulfill us. Warm relationships do. Be dignified and join us in making a difference. Be a part of the solution. Only 5 minutes a day of sending positive thoughts, prayers, intentions, for safety, peace, and love for your fellow humans… for our planet… Consider this your “call to arms.” About the Author: James, Little Eagle Standing Strong, and Cynthia, White Flower, are a husband and wife team. BTestimonial aker Chiropractic Dr. Baker’s Chiropractic Care Provided Relief for My Back, Neck and Shoulder Pain

Dr. Patrick Baker

I just want to give you a great big Hallelujah shout out for your expertise. Baker Chiropractic and Wellness Center has truly been a Godsend. I originally visited your Fairfield office due to a car accident in March 2013. I was in excruciating pain and I was provided immediate relief through your specialized chiropractic care for my back, neck, and shoulder pain. I gained such relief & energy that I was able to return to enjoying quality of life again after just a few weeks of treatment. I felt so alive after completing your recommended treatment plan in June 2013, that I decided to not return for maintenance care as you had so sincerely suggested. Well, while on vacation In July 2016, I woke up in excruciating pain to the point that I literally could not walk or bare any weight on my lower back to left buttock and leg. The pain was radiating through my left leg to foot and I was not able to walk without assistance of someone. As recommended by my primary physician, I was taking steroid pain medicine around the clock every 4-6 hours only to get little if any relief. Upon my return home the pain had magnified to an off the chart level. Our family physician ordered an MRI which disclosed that I had two (2) pinched nerves pressing against a bulging herniated disc. I was referred to a neurosurgeon for further evaluation regarding the results of the MRI. After a consultation meeting with a surgeon, I was advised that an epidural injection

14

should relieve the excruciating pain; after which I would be reevaluated for possible back surgery. I had the injection on August 5, 2016, which relieved the excruciating pain but the pain returned after a few days. I still was not able to sit, stand, or walk without the assistance of someone. I was basically restricted to mostly lying down while taking pain medicine. At the persistence of my husband, I called Baker Chiropractic and Wellness on August 9th and was advised to come into the office the next day. I entered the office with tears from the severity of the pain I was still experiencing. Dr Patrick immediately performed spine adjustments and manipulations of which I felt immediate relief. I continued to see Dr. Patrick three (3) times a week and each day I became stronger with less pain. I was sitting, standing, and walking again on my own and enjoying my quality of life again! However, I was not able to continue recommended maintenance visits due to insurance policy demanding that I seek physical therapy instead of chiropractic care. Thus, I was forced to go through physical therapy from September through December 2016. The therapy however was not as effective as the healing adjustments/spinal manipulative therapy that I received by Dr. Patrick and his team. But as fate would have it; while sitting at a red traffic light On April 21, 2017, I was abruptly rear-ended by an oncoming car. So once again, I returned to receive care from Dr. Patrick and Baker Chiropractic and Wellness Center. I am writing this testimony in June 2017, with such appreciation for the special care and attention I have received from Dr. Patrick and his staff. I am an advocate believer of holistic healing and can say that I received such healing by following through with the recommended spine adjustments and manipulations along with other therapeutic treatments for pain management as performed and/or suggested you. So again, a great BIG Hallelujah shout out to you Dr. Patrick and your love for people and your expertise

The Perfect Shade of Onion

Onions have been known to be a super healthy food, but the red or purple variety of onions offer more protection from diseases. The healing properties of the colorful onions can kill more cancer cells than just a regular white or yellow onion. Research has determined that red onions are superior than other varieties because of their high level of flavonoids. The presence of the elevated amount of flavonoids is more successful with thinning the blood, helping to reduce high blood pressure and risk of stroke. The antioxidants in red onions have a greater ability to fight certain cancers and studies have shown, stomach cancer was reduced considerably.

16

Another reason to love onions, particularly the red ones, is because they contain compounds called Anthocyanins. These compounds are what give vegetables and fruit the beautiful colors of dark red, purple and blue. Scientists have discovered that the food consisting of these powerful compounds, should be added to your daily diet for optimal health. Just half of a red onion has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antifungal properties that may help prevent colds, intestinal polyp formation and treating skin conditions, such as psoriasis. A trace mineral, chromium, found in onions, is good news for those who suffer with diabetes. This mineral is essential in the diet for insulin activity in carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism.

Aug / Sept 2017

There has been evidence that confirms a deficiency in chromium may cause weight gain or inhibit weight loss. The incredible red onion also contains fiber. The soluble fiber helps with digestion and allows the nutrients to be absorbed. The insoluble fiber comes from the skins of onions and can keep your intestines healthy while maintaining regularity. It is best to eat the onions raw or to steam them to keep the healthy benefits. Over exposure to heat will destroy the power packed nutrients of the red onion. Onions in general are a great way to add flavor to many dishes. They are loaded with many vitamins and minerals. If you have not tried the pretty red or purple variety in awhile, add it to a salad for a colorful and zesty freshness. Or try a slice of pure goodness on your favorite sandwich. Enjoy the vitality of life with the amazing beautiful red onion!

Flamiche (Onion Pie) INGREDIENTS: • 2 red onions sliced thin julienne and sauteed until soft (about 6 minutes on high heat0 • 3 eggs • ¼ cup heavy cream • ¼ cup sour cream • Salt and pepper to taste • 1 tsp fresh dill minced • ½ tsp dry yellow mustard • One eight inch prepared pie crust DIRECTIONS: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees 2. Prick pie crust with fork and bake for about 6 minutes 3. Place sauteed onions in bottom of pie crust and

spread evenly. 4. Whisk remaining ingredients together in a bowl until smooth 5. Pour over onions 6. Place pie dish on baking tray 7. Bake in oven for 20-25 minutes or until knife inserted comes out clean. This makes an excellent brunch item and is wonderful as an accompaniment to grilled salmon and a salad of bitter greens.

Bacon & Red Onion Jam INGREDIENTS: • ¾ pound of uncooked uncured natural bacon, or turkey bacon • 4 large red onions diced • 1 tsp. dry mustard seed • 2 ½ Tbs. brown sugar • ¼ cup balsamic vinegar • 3-5 Tbs. of cold water DIRECTIONS: 1. In a large heavy pan or Dutch oven, render bacon 2. Cook 12-15 minutes until it begins to crisp. 3. Remove all drippings except one Tbs. 4. Stir in onions and cook until soft and beginning to caramelize. 5. Add remaining ingredients and cook on low heat stirring occasionally. 6. Continue cooking, adding water by ½ tsp. If needed until mixture has a spreadable, jam-like consistency. ( 60-70 minutes total.) 7. Cool and place in covered container in the refrigerator. Keeps up to one week. This is excellent as a burger condiment, a pizza spread, on grilled cheese, on a club sandwich…. Recipes submitted by Cynthia M. Brown

The Matrix: The Sound Model for Peace by Jill Mattson Peace is an emotion. We all know what it feels like. Music creates emotions within us. One way to create peace is to listen to peaceful music! When music makes us feel peaceful, we create peaceful energy! Each uplifting listening experience adds a drop of positive energy to one’s energy fields. Music, which engages and entertains, can amplify peace. Music can be pleasurable, feel good and birth peace. One can endlessly listen to music, even while doing other activities. As we listen to music, it overcomes us, by making us tap our feet, calm down or dance a jig. We automatically match the vibrations and rhythms within the music. We can listen to music – until we become the music. We become the “mellow feeling of the serene melody” or mirror the dance-beat. When we “sync” with peaceful music – we blend with others creating peacedoing the same thing, tapping into their collective consciousness. Sound energy can be subtle, and not heard. Perhaps the volume is too low for us to discern or it is a bit out of our hearing range. For example, vibrations emitted from a flower are too tiny to hear, yet they influence us none-the-less. People send flowers to the sick and grieving to uplift their feelings. Likewise, the invisible feelings of peace remains where the saint sat. Such peaceful feelings can influence the town, city and state - if the saint’s energy is powerful enough. A quantity of peaceful energy must be amassed to see a result in our dense material world. Energy that we ingest through listening effects our consciousness, but we need a large dosage to realize significant material changes. Obtaining world peace can be compared to a game of Risk. In the game of Risk, players have different colored game pieces. Whoever has the most pieces wins the game. So if the game board is covered with blue game pieces, then blue wins and red loses. Likewise, in our world the largest quantity of energy, which can be found in pliable sounds and music – becomes the dominant “song” that the masses march to. There is no struggle between peace and war – simply it is a game of amassing peaceful feelings or colored game pieces. When you pray for people in a war torn area, your prayers for peace (positive energy) are like adding a

18

small colored piece on the game board. When you pray in song form – like a mantra or a hymn, you place a large game board piece into play. Sound can amplify an emotion’s power. Everyone can use their uplifting feelings and voice to “vote” on what should be the dominating subtle energy of the world. Music and the world pool of vibrations can be compared to an impersonal game with the largest quantities of vibrations (expressed as music, feeling or thoughts) dominating. The greater volume of a frequency overcomes or entrains another. So we must ponder: what are the songs that the world hears today? How many songs create peace versus war-and-destruction into our collective wave pool? So what is your contribution to the global energy pool? Everything about you (thoughts, feeling, actions and health) is entered into the global vibrational energy pool. This can be a scary analogy, but there is great beauty in this analogy as well. You matter; your thoughts, feeling and actions can tip the balance of power. Most importantly - are you singing? Out of tune (or whatever) is fine, but use your voice as the powerful tool that it is. And what music are you playing? What feelings does your music create? To amplify the impact of using sound for peace, ancient masters noted that energy waves combine. For example, we can combine an emotion and our voice. For example, the same word, “Hi”, can sound angry or loving. Sound combines with various energies, not just our voices. The energy of a song carries on a river, or an electromagnetic Earth current. Masaru Emoto photographed crystals of freezing water exposed to different emotions and words, showing the visual impact of combining one’s voice and water. Butterflies, bees and birds fly north and south on invisible subtle Earth energy currents. Ancient Masters believed that these same Earth energies combined with sound! Ancient majestic temples and pyramids were constructed on naturally occurring earth energy currents and underground water ways to spread the positive energy created at a sacred site: the special energy of the stones, sacred geometry in the construction, the choir singing or the prayers of the saints. In ancient England, 24 hour choirs were positioned on Earth energy grid lines to anchor

uplifting energy to a broad region. Imagine today Earth wide locations of continual peaceful singing! How powerful!

emotionally with the singers and connected to them through sound. Sharing music belonging to “different” groups unites them.

When war is destined to break out, the music stops. There are no street musicians, concerts are cancelled and even people hush their voices. No wonder Osama Bin Laden outlawed music for his followers. Can you imagine listening to the Beach Boys’ breezy and fun surfing songs before volunteering to be a suicide bomber?

Music is not invasive, subtle yet powerful. It is a powerful force to create peace in the world.

A major causes of war is differences among people. It is easier to kill someone that is viewed as “different”, the enemy or evil, than someone we know. It is as if a “different” person is not human or we don’t feel the pain we inflict. One way to subtly get rid of “differences” is to listen to and enjoy the other person’s music. Look to the sixties in the USA. People hoped that “busing” would eradicate racial differences. It failed miserably. However, when youth loved the black rapper’s music, then racial differences were reduced and often forgotten. The youth “jived” and resonated

Creating Peace on Earth by Kevin Todeschi

In the face of unspeakable acts of terrorism and almost unbelievable examples of man’s inhumanity to man, are there any insights that can be found in the Edgar Cayce material in terms of how to respond individually and collectively? What are we to do in the face of war or terror? What are we to do when things happen on the other side of the world? What should be our response in the face of fear? During the early days of World War II when Europe was in the midst of war and the United States had galvanized much of society to deal with the threat of war, a remarkable reading was given in which those in attendance asked for practical and spiritual suggestions to assist them in bringing about World Peace. Cayce’s surprising response suggested that World Peace could be made possible by collectively creating peace in each of their individual lives: Ye cannot pray “Peace - Peace” when there is no peace in

20

thine own heart and soul! but by knowing (for His spirit answers with thy spirit) that each day, each person ye meet is GLAD that you are alive! GLAD that YOU have come in touch with them; for you have brought - and bring - hope to their lives, just in the passing! This means, then, that you may so live the life as He emulated in the earth, that ye radiate life, joy, peace! that which casteth out fear - by living, by being, by doing unto others, for others, that ye would like others to do unto you ... Only as ye USE that birthright, that purpose, that WILL within thine own consciousness to do justice, to do right, to LOVE good, to eschew evil, may ye as individuals, as a group, as a nation, stand between the living and the dead - and STAY the sin that maketh man make war - of any nature - against his brother. Thou ART thy brother’s keeper! Act that in thine own heart. Who IS thy brother? “Who is my mother? They

that do the will of the Father, the same is my mother, my sister, my brother.” … In this ye may build, here a little, there a little, line upon line, precept upon precept.

step? Is it really that hard to call a sister we haven’t spoken with or be the first to reach out to a co-worker we are challenged by?

-- Edgar Cayce reading 3976-27

I don’t think the readings would encourage unconditional pacifism to a government or a president in the face of war or terror; however, most of us are not in a position to impact a military or a government response. However, what we can do as individuals is follow an admonition that exists in many places throughout the Cayce readings: “do what you know to do and the next step will be given.”

When the question was asked as to how the entire organization could work together to stimulate peace, Cayce responded: Then let each one, as a son, as a daughter of the living God, feed His lambs, feed His sheep. With what? The spirit of truth, the spirit of peace! APPLY that NEW commandment as He gave, “Love one another.” In all groups, all organizations, it is not what this or that name or group may do, but as ONE. For, the Lord thy God is ONE! And the Christ, the Savior, died for all - NOT for one! And when asked about the issue of religious differences, Cayce replied: … more wars, more bloodshed have been shed over the racial and religious differences than over any other problem! These, too, must go the way of all others; and man must learn - if he will know the peace as promised by Him - that God loveth those who love Him, whether they be called of this or that sect or schism or ism or cult! The Lord is ONE! I reflected upon some of the above a couple of months ago when a longtime friend was condemning the violence in the Middle East and expressed his frustration that there was nothing he could do about it. Knowing this person fairly well, I also knew that he and his sister had essentially stopped speaking to one another over a family squabble more than 10 years ago. I decided to take the opportunity to suggest that the Edgar Cayce readings were adamant in their stance that he COULD do something about it by trying to heal his relationship with is sister. He brushed it aside as being unimportant and not worth the effort, and having absolutely nothing to do with the problems in the Middle East. I got a similar response when I mentioned to a co-worker the importance of trying to heal a longstanding, inharmonious relationship at work. The person had no interest in working on a healing. What if Cayce is right? What if world peace is created an individual at a time? What if our collective “vibrations” of healing merge together to have an even greater impact upon the whole? What is going to occur if our continued response to world turmoil is simply turn the channel, while overlooking any attempt at peace and healing that needs to occur in our own lives? What if Peace on Earth and good will toward all truly resides within each and every one of us and is simply waiting for us to take a baby

Infinity

On one occasion, Morton Blumenthal (the individual who built the Cayce hospital) asked for information on Evolution and “survival of the fittest,” Cayce suggested that evolution of the human creature was actually much more complicated. Cayce told Blumenthal: … read history! Which has survived - the brute strength, or the development towards that of God? Which survives - the man that studies God and seeks to emulate His forces and powers, or the man that emulates the forces of earth or flesh? This answers itself! -- Edgar Cayce reading 900-340 In other words, this suggests that eventually we will have peace on earth and good will toward all. But perhaps it only comes as each of us does our part. Do you really want to help heal the world? Cayce would say take a first step and heal a relationship and cultivate peace in your own life.

20 Tips for Optimal Health by Dr. Joeseph Mercola To help commemorate 20 years of offering the most up-to-date health information we can, here are 20 tips to help you on your journey. The topics are allencompassing, so while you may not be able to do all of them right now, beginning with a few will improve your overall health, as well as your sense of well-being. What to Do More of or Get More of to Optimize Your Health 1. Get eight hours of sleep every night. You’ve heard it since you were a kid but that eight hours of shut-eye is serious business. Believe it or not, adequate sleep can make you smarter, skinnier and happier; it helps you assimilate and deal with the ins and outs of life and process information on multiple levels. You end up consuming more calories when you don’t get enough sleep. Your memory suffers and your risk for depression increases because your brain hasn’t had enough time to sort out what is and isn’t important. Your risk of anxiety rises, and with it, coping mechanisms that often involve food. Even your immune system takes a hit. Protect your hours of sleep like you do your bank account. You’ll be richer for it. 2. Get adequate vitamin D and omega-3s, and test your levels. Deficiencies in these two essential nutrients are causing untold damage to the health of millions of Americans. In fact, 85 percent of Americans aren’t getting enough “D” to help fight bone loss, cognitive decline, rheumatoid arthritis and abnormal cell growth, which are just a few of the functions vitamin D helps with. To figure how much you need, have your levels tested and be sure they are maintained at between 40 and 60 ng/mL yearround. Regular sun exposure is your best source of vitamin D, but supplementation may also be necessary for some people. Omega-3s are polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), which you need for healthy digestion, blood clotting, memory, muscle strength, vision, heart health and so much more. A deficiency is implicated in cognitive decline and may be a factor in 100,000 premature deaths each year. The Omega-3 Index Test1 can help you determine your level (ideally it should be above 8 percent) and is available

22

from several labs. Excellent sources of animal-based omega-3s include wild-caught Alaskan salmon, sardines, anchovies and krill oil. 3. Get moving. Sitting is a huge part of modern life. In fact, the national median of adults with little to no physical activity other than their jobs is 22.6 percent, according to the United Health Foundation.2 More than 10,000 studies attest to the fact that sitting is a big risk factor for not just illness but premature death. Walking just one hour a day, the equivalent of about 3 miles, will go a long way (pun intended) toward optimizing your health. You’ll gain greater stamina, more energy and even more confidence, along with cutting your risk for several types of disease. Ideally, aim for 10,000 steps a day and cut your sitting time to three hours or less daily. 4. Grow your own food. The best way to guarantee you’re eating truly healthy foods like vegetables, herbs and seeds is to produce them yourself. You may be surprised how easy it is to start with organic tomato, beet or lettuce seeds for growing food right at your fingertips. It’s very satisfying, plus you don’t have to worry about genetically engineered (GE) foods laced with harmful pesticides. 5. Get adequate sun exposure. Humans make thousands of units of vitamin D within minutes of whole-body exposure to sunlight,3 but, unfortunately, 9-to-5 jobs keep most people indoors. Regular sun exposure is important not only for adequate vitamin D production but also much more, including boosting your immune system, regulating your circadian rhythm, lowering high blood pressure, improving your mood and even lowering your risk of many cancers, including skin cancer.4 Safe exposure to sunshine is possible by understanding your skin type, the UV strength at the time of exposure and your duration of exposure. Always avoid getting burned, but do make sure you spend a sensible amount of time with your bare skin exposed regularly. What to Eat More of to Optimize Your Health 6. Eat more fiber.

Aug / Sept 2017

It may not make sense until you think about it, but when the foods you eat hang around in your system (aka colon) for too long, it begins accumulating toxins that can potentially end up causing colon cancer. The foods you eat provide needed nutrients for your body’s health, but then they need to move through and out of your system. That’s where fiber, especially from vegetables, nuts and seeds such as flax and chia seeds — not grains — come in handy. Fiber “sloughs” your intestinal walls to speed up movement. Drinking adequate water helps the process, as well. Fiber is not only beneficial for lowering your cancer risk but also reduces your risk of chronic disease like diabetes and heart disease. It’s even good for your lung function. How much fiber do you need? I believe about 50 grams per 1,000 calories consumed is ideal. 7. Eat more fish. As you may know, protein is essential for health. You only need to eat 10 percent to 35 percent of your daily calorie intake from protein, however, and many Americans consume much more than that. Trading out some of the beef you eat for fish is an excellent way to get adequate protein without getting too much, which can be worse than a deficiency. However larger fish are nearly always contaminated with mercury and other toxins. Exceptions would be wild-caught Alaskan salmon, sardines, anchovies and herring are cold-water fish that offer healthy fats, including omega-3s, without high levels of pollutants. Make sure the fish you eat is wild-caught, not farmed, low in mercury and other pollutants and responsibly harvested. Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification5 and Fishwise help eliminate guesswork on what’s healthy and sustainable. If opting for a supplement, krill oil offers many of the same benefits as eating fish, and even more benefits than fish oil. 8. Switch to American grass fed certified.

Exchange has a list of producers who sell organic and grass fed meats across the U.S. Also, check out RealMilk.com and the Cornucopia Institute’s egg report and dairy scorecard. 6 Certification by the American Grassfed Association is the highest assurance you can have that the food is authentically raised to the highest standards. In addition, support U.S. grass fed producers. 9. Make fermented foods. Fermented foods provide your body with beneficial microbes, counteract inflammation and control the growth of disease-causing bacteria. All you need is a Mason jar or two to get started. Your gut houses about 85 percent of your immune system, mainly because 100 trillion beneficial and pathogenic bacteria live there and play important roles in your body’s functions. When your GI tract is not properly balanced, a wide range of health problems can appear, including allergies and autoimmune diseases. Here’s a tutorial to start you on your way to better gut health. 10. Grow sprouts. If you haven’t heard about the incredible health benefits of eating sprouted broccoli, bean or sunflower sprouts, it might be helpful to learn that, compared to the considerable vitamins and antioxidants in full-grown vegetables, the micro version (i.e., sprouts) is like veggies on steroids. Sunflower seed and pea shoots are about 30 times more nutritious than organic vegetables. Best of all, growing your own is super easy, quick, cost effective and doesn’t require a lot of space. For instructions that will help you start on the fun and nutritious journey, be sure to read sprout-growing 101. What to Avoid or Reduce to Optimize Your Health 11. Avoid lectins.

That goes for milk and butter as well as meat, so when you buy these products you know, as studies have indicated, you’re getting optimal essential minerals and antioxidants, as well as fatty acid composition. Organic grass fed foods are also free of antibiotics and other drugs used in concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs).

Lectins are carbohydrate-binding proteins you find in many plant-based foods, such as wheat and other grains, beans and similar legumes, and nightshade veggies such as tomatoes and peppers. Many are proinflammatory and neurotoxic, and may increase blood viscosity, interfere with gene expression and disrupt endocrine function. That’s why dried beans must be carefully cooked, and never eat them raw. Sprouting and fermenting will also dramatically reduce the lectin content of foods.

Antibiotic-resistant disease has become a major public health hazard, so buying organic meats is should something you take into consideration. The Grassfed

(Continued from pg. 23) 12. Avoid fluoride. In the U.S., 57 percent of youth between the ages of 6 and 19 years have dental fluorosis, a condition in which your tooth enamel becomes progressively discolored and mottled due to overexposure to fluoridated drinking water. Dental fluorosis is an outward sign that fluoride is damaging the body. A forethinking chemist asserted that water fluoridation was tantamount to committing “public murder” back in 1937, sadly confirmed with a sharp rise in cancer deaths implicating fluoride soon after the practice started. Choose non-fluoridated toothpaste and consider a fluoride-removing water filter. The three types of filters that can remove fluoride are reverse osmosis, deionizers (which use ion-exchange resins) and activated alumina. 13. Avoid containers.

microwaves,

especially

with

plastic

Depending on what product you’re using, your plastic might contain phthalates, a type of “gender-bending” chemical causing males of many species to become more female, along with many others. Microwaving food in a plastic container puts your food in contact with phthalates and other chemicals that have leached out during the heating process. Instead, use a glass container and cover your food with a paper towel, a coffee filter or a glass lid set on at a slight angle for steam to escape. Even better, banish your microwave altogether. Microwaves heat food by causing water molecules in it to resonate at very high frequencies and eventually turn to steam, which heats your food. While this can rapidly heat your food, it also causes a change in your food’s chemical structure and destroys many vital nutrients. 14. Limit your protein intake. Protein is essential for health because it helps build muscle, maintain healthy cells and regulate your metabolism, to name a few of its many functions, which is why it’s called the “building blocks of life.” But Americans consume the most meat per capita in the world — more than 175 pounds of pork, poultry and beef per year, which exceeds what is wise for optimal health. People whose protein consumption is 20 percent or more their total caloric intake have a 400 percent higher cancer rate, and a 75 percent higher risk of mortality. Protein is important, but balance is important, too. For optimal health, I believe most adults need about 1 gram

24

of protein per kilogram of lean body mass (not total body weight), or 0.5 grams of protein per pound of lean body mass. 15. Reduce EMFs. No doubt about it: Exposure to EMFs, or electromagnetic fields, is a given if you use a cellphone. One study showed that those who logged the most time on their cell phones were twice as likely to develop glioma compared to those who used them the least.7 Learning disabilities, altered brain metabolism and DNA damage are some of the hair-raising outcomes. Lower your exposure to all electronics whenever possible, but use particular care with your cellphone, portable phone, Wi-Fi router and modem. You can reduce your exposure by shutting off your Wi-Fi at night, keeping cellphones in airplane mode unless using them, using the speaker phone and using a selfie stick when talking on your cellphone. Things to Eliminate to Optimize Your Health It’s hard to eliminate things from modern-day life that are so ingrained into society that getting rid of certain unhealthy factors are not just inconvenient but impossible. But when you understand the toll hanging on to certain unhealthy things and how it can (and does) negatively impact your life, it often becomes more doable, and even imperative, such as the following: 16. Give up nicotine for life. You probably already know smoking causes cancer, and other forms of nicotine and tar are every bit as dangerous. But did you know it is one of the factors in the development of Alzheimer’s? In fact, one study showed smokers to have a 45 percent higher risk of developing dementia than nonsmokers.8 Show this study to your kids and grandkids. 17. Get rid of nonstick cookware. Here’s why: poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) used to create these surfaces are toxic, both in your body and in the environment. You may have noticed bits that come loose when you’re stirring, and realized they’re going into someone’s body, and toxic fumes, even if you can’t smell them, are, too. Instead, use ceramic or enameled cast iron pots, pans and skillets to do your cooking. 18. Consider getting rid of your mercury fillings. But maybe you should first consider what mercury fillings may be doing to wreck your health. The

Aug / Sept 2017

amalgam fillings put in place by dentists in the U.S. are 50 percent mercury, the vapors of which pass through cell membranes, across your blood-brain barrier and into your central nervous system. Studies show they cause serious psychological, neurological and immunological problems. You can have mercury fillings removed by a biological dentist and find more information here.

drugs and medical procedures. We’ve partnered with key organizations also dedicated to educating the public on important health issues, and even push for initiatives that will better public health and the environment while helping you improve your health, naturally.

19. Give up soda.

About the Author: Dr. Mercola finished his family practice residency in 1985 but was trained by the conventional model. In his first years of private practice, he treated many symptoms with prescription drugs and was actually a paid speaker for the drug companies. But as he began to experience the failures of this model in his practice, he embraced natural medicine and has had an opportunity over the last thirty years to apply these time tested approaches successfully with thousands of patients in his clinic.

Countless individuals are making strides toward a healthier lifestyle, but one of the smartest things you can do if you haven’t already is ditch soda. There’s a link between soda consumption and obesity, as well as liver damage, heart disease, diabetes and osteoporosis. Making the switch to water could be the most influential health decision you’ve ever made. Whatever you do, don’t start drinking diet soda, as it’s even worse. It’s linked to stroke, dementia, depression and neurological disorders due to the aspartame content, and it may make you gain weight instead of lose it. Be informed about what you’re really putting in your body. You won’t believe how much better you’ll feel. 20. Avoid sugar. Evidence suggests excess sugar is a foundational cause of diabetes, obesity and most chronic degenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, not just an exacerbating factor. You can lower your risk of premature death simply by limiting your intake. Once you more fully appreciate the dangers of sugar, you may finally be more motivated to mostly eliminate it from your diet. It may be difficult in the beginning, but once you cut down on added sugars and other net carbs (total carbs minus fiber), which will allow your body to start burning fat as its primary fuel again, the sugar cravings will disappear and you will not have to struggle to abstain from junk foods any longer. Research stevia as an alternative.

Over 15 years ago he founded Mercola.com to share his experiences with others. The site is the most visited natural health site in the world for the last seven years with nearly two million subscribers. He’s also written two NY Times bestselling books, and has had frequent appearances on national media including the Dr. Oz show and major news channels. World Peace Day Includes Our Animals Too! by Cindy Huff & Terri Noftsger

The theme of this issue is “Together for Peace, Respect, Safety and Dignity for all”. All of Earth’s animals must be included in this intention; they deserve to be treated with respect and dignity, they must be safe. It is our responsibility as the Stewards of our Earth to insure that they are safe and able to live in dignity and peace. Stewardship is rooted in respect for that which we are charged with overseeing. If we do not first respect the animals who not only live with us, but live around us in nature, then we do not see a need for them beyond their usefulness to us. If we do not see them as thinking, feeling beings with the same right to existence as ourselves, then we diminish them in our eyes. They become property to be used and disposed of as we see fit. The first step towards peace for all beings on earth indeed begins with respect. When I began to communicate with animals, and truly experienced their feelings, heard their thoughts, and saw the world through their eyes, I took the first steps towards respecting them. I began to really understand their brilliance as teachers, their compassion as healers, and their profound ability to love and to forgive. I have always loved animals, and felt that I treated them with kindness and fairness. There was always a distance, a “me” and “them” that prevented me from really connecting with them. Once I learned how to connect, and they allowed me to experience them more fully, that distance began to shrink. The other barrier that I think we humans have that prevents us from fully connecting with each other, with animals, and with Nature in general is our minds. The human mind has this uncanny ability to be focused on the future or the past, we very seldom allow ourselves to be present NOW. Animals are actually the opposite. They tend to be fully present in the NOW most of the time. Occasionally an animal might be triggered by something in their past and react to it, but most of the time they are reacting to the current moment. That allows them to fully experience the present, to be immersed in it. If they are rolling in the grass, they are really having that experience with all of their senses - they aren’t thinking about what is going to happen when they are done doing it. When an animal is fully present with you, and you are fully present with them at the same moment, it is like time ceases to exist, everything except that connection ceases to exist It is an amazing experience.

26

The complete connection with an animal is the closest many of us come to experiencing utter peace. I believe that the reason is that when we truly connect with them, the Divine in each of us is part of that connection. We are, in a way, experiencing the Divine presence together in that moment. Animals are so willing to do this with us, if we will just be present with them for a short time, and are willing to open our hearts to the connection. We can also have this experience with animals in Nature, or even with Nature itself… for the same reason. We are present enough and open enough to experience the Divine in that moment. I have had this happen while walking or sitting in Nature - in Sedona on Bell’s Rock, at the Cincinnati Nature Center, in the Smoky Mountains. The common ingredient was an immense respect for, and openness to, what was around me in the present moment. I wasn’t thinking about what I had to do at work the next day, or whether I had to mow the grass when I got home. I allowed myself to open and fully experience what was around me at that moment - the sky, the wind, the ground beneath my feet, the birds in the trees above me, the squirrel in the brush next to me. I opened all my senses, both physical and non-physical, and allowed myself to feel appreciation for it all. That appreciation allowed me to fully connect, and to feel the utter peace. In honor of World Peace Day on September 21st, consider taking a few moments to be fully present in respect and love with each member of your family - including your animals. Be willing to allow that connection, and see what happens. Happy World Peace Day!

Natural Patches of Vermont Introduce Aromatherapy Wax Crumbles

Unique, Personal Aromatherapy Formulated with Pure Essential Oils; No Artificial Colors or Synthetic Fragrances Natural Patches of Vermont, a leader in pure essential oil skin patches for on-the-go aromatherapy, introduces a new way to bring soothing comfort into living spaces with its Aromatherapy Crumbles. Answering the call from customers who seek the same in-home essential oil/aromatherapy experience as their body patches, Natural Patches of Vermont has developed the perfect essential oil companion for home use. Unlike most fragrance-based tarts (“melts”), Aromatherapy Crumbles use the same carefully crafted pure essential oil blends as the company’s skin patches. Crumbles contain no artificial colors, fragrances, or synthetic waxes to ensure a genuine, safe and natural aromatherapy experience. Unlike Crumbles, tarts are cast as a single block, and the use of an entire tart results in an inevitable loss of the tart’s remaining volatile oils very quickly. With Crumbles, users can personalize the intensity and duration of the natural aromatherapy session through additions of individual spoonfuls of Crumble granules, using only what is needed for their session. Crumbles may be used in either electric or candle-powered potpourri or tart warmers. Crumbles are initially available in soothing lavender, bergamot and lemongrass scents. “We are very pleased to share our new Aromatherapy Crumbles with our customers,” said Roger Carr, director of marketing. “The remarkable success of our essential oil body patches led us to develop Crumbles for those who want to expand our aromatherapy into their homes, and do so economically. Crumbles are the perfect companion to our on-the-go essential oil body patches, now providing our aromatic blends for increased comfort at home, and away.” The rising awareness of the health concerns surrounding aerosol sprays, and the growing demand for aromatherapy is driving the wax tarts market. According to Research

and Markets, the global wax tarts market will reach approximately $6.41 billion by 2025. The richly aromatic Aromatherapy Crumbles, and other Natural Patches products, can be ordered through Natural Patches of Vermont website, and from a growing number of retailers. The company also offers a selection of high-quality electric warmers for the Crumbles. About Natural Patches of Vermont: Founded in 1999, Natural Patches of Vermont is a pioneer in new ways to deliver the power of aromatherapy through its pure essential oil body patches. Infused with carefully-crafted blends of pure essential oils, Natural Patches are formulated to offer comfort for a wide range of concerns. Natural Patches of Vermont works with care providers, natural product retailers, health spas and practitioners to help those seeking user-friendly, natural aromatherapy alternatives. 4 Simple Ideas by Brian Eastman 4 Simple Ideas to Help you Gain a Life Filled with Peace, Happiness, Success and Contentment

There’s that old saying: “When you are up to your ears in water moccasins and alligators, it’s difficult to remember that you are trying to drain the moat!” Similarly, when your life is filled with tumult, chaos and upset it is so difficult to find your way to a happy place. But you needn’t stay stuck in an unhappy life. Here are four simple actions which can help you find your way to a happy peaceful life. -Refresh your mind with quiet times Just five or ten minutes each day stilling your mind with meditation helps you focus on your long-term direction and make wiser decisions every day. -Look for commonalities in your troubles and heal the causal beliefs Both Transactional Analysis (TA) and LIIFT look for recurring patterns and the underlying beliefs in a person’s life. TA calls them life scripts and family scripts. Here are two examples: --”Josie” had recurring situations of cheating partners. Her mother and grandmother had them too. Using LIIFT we healed her toxic belief, “All men are cheaters.” --”Brent” started several businesses which, after some success, had an “out of the blue” catastrophe kill them. We found and healed the belief, “If I am too successful my family will dislike me.” You no longer need long-term psychotherapy to find and heal the problem. Transactional Analysis and LIIFT are as effective as any healing process I have seen and more effective than most. -Identify sources of emotional distress, past and present, and heal them At his first LIIFT session, “Thomas” tested at 900,000 for Residual Trauma, where the acceptable range is

28

0-50. “Oh, yes,” he said, “I was savagely abused from age two to five.” The old abuse created the adult result that he was failing in his career. Using LIIFT we healed the damage down to just 40 in three months. And his career took off. -If child-rearing is adding more stress to your life than fun . . . Go to ParentsToolShop.com. The website offers video and in-person training for parents and other care-givers. I admire this well-structured simple approach, which TA and LIIFT conceptually support. World Peace Day September 21, 2017

A Day of Peace and Blessings! St. Francis Prayer of Peace Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is Hatred, let me sow Love. Where there is Injury, Pardon. Where there is Doubt, Faith. Where there is Despair, Hope. Where there is Darkness, Light, and Where there is Sadness, Joy. O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; To be understood, as to understand; To be loved, as to love; For it is in giving that we receive, It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, And it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Touch the rose and receive special blessings!
