Our Spiritual Winter Evolution by Cynthia White Flower

“To every thing there is a season…’” so Ecclesiastes 3 in The Holy Bible tells us. Nature provides seasons to help us to evolve spiritually to fulfill our ultimate reason for living- to consciously return to God. We are here to realize that God is within us. We are here to discover that, as we look into the eyes of an individual, we are simultaneously looking into the eyes of God. Further, we are here to learn that we are the “God’s” of our destiny – the creators. Ultimately, as our realization evolves, we find that we are not separate from one another, but we are all One. All that we think, say and do affects the whole world, like a ripple in a pond, but the pond is infinite and the ripple keeps going. The seasons provide examples of where we are in the cycle of God realization and what to focus upon next. They show us what practices are supported by this special time of the year. In the winter, the cold encourages us to go within.

Meditation is suggested. The great Yogi, Paramahansa Yogananda tells us that, “You will never find joy to equal that which comes when the thoughts are silent and your mind is tuned to the peace of God.” The weather that forces us indoors supports our introspection and solitude. We can meditate on a mantra to take us higher. Sit quietly. Take a deep breath and focus your sight in between your eyes. Say a mantra that will support the moment steering you away from wandering thoughts and taking you into a higher sense of awareness. Let’s say “Ohm Shanti Ohm” (pronounced “Aum shaun tee Aum.” Say it over and over. Feel the great peace over take you. “Ohm Shanti Ohm, ohm shanti ohm, ohm shanti ohm.” The “Om” is reputed to be the absolute first sacred sound heard at the creation of the universe. Sanskrit, the language of this mantra, is said to have been formed from the noises emanating from the objects and from the

universe. According to ancient scriptures- it is through sound that all was created. “Ohm” when said correctly, reverberates from your pelvis to your head, unlocking the throat chakra, the energy center in the neck, connecting the divine (your head and crown chakra) with matter (the body) for better communication with self, spirit, others, the Divine. According to the World Pranic Healing Foundation, “The mantra “Ohm” purifies our mind and soul and takes our incarnated soul closer to our higher soul.” “Ohm Shanti Ohm, ohm shanti ohm, ohm shanti ohm.”

Master retreats where you can study and become more enlightened as you rest.

“Shanti” is the Sanskrit word for peace, rest, calm, bliss and tranquility. According to the World Pranic Healing Foundation:

Yogi Yogananda says “The first proof of God’s presence is an ineffable peace. This evolves into joy humanly inconceivable. Once you have touched the Source of truth and life, all nature will respond to you.” The Omar Khayyan reminds us to “Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life.” In the Winter solitude, may peace prevail in our hearts creating harmony and joy as we welcome the New Year!

“The first “Shanti” will free us from physical burdens. It filters negative thoughts related to our etheric body like disabilities, diseases and illnesses. The second “Shanti” cleanses our mind and soul. We can shed negative thoughts like jealousy, hatred, anger, worries from our mind. This takes us a step close to our higher soul. The third “Shanti” is meant to protect us from accidents and natural calamities. The mantra can give us peace and free us from stress, particularly when we are feeling depressed, frustrated, angry and all other sorts of negative emotions. This will create a field of calmness around us and help us to meditate properly.” “Ohm Shanti Ohm, ohm shanti ohm, ohm shanti ohm.” The season speaks to us through the days that are shorter, darker. Nature tells us to rest- to go to bed earlier. Being rested improves our memory, inspires creativity and helps our body to heal. When we feel good, we react to life from a positive state of well-being. Since there is less light, we are shown that more light is needed in our lives. While we are sleeping, we can go to the Ascended Master’s Retreats to become more enlightened. From the Summit Lighthouse: “Arch Angel Michael, please come and take me safely to and from the Ascension Temple in Luxor Egypt to study with Serapis Bey.” The season of winter is a great time to read. The book, The Masters And Their Retreats by Mark L. Prophet Elizabeth Clare Prophet is filled with different Ascended

“Love is the energizing elixir of the Universe, the cause and effect of all harmony,” so Rumi reminds us. When we feel loved, we feel secure. When we love, we step outside of ourselves to become selfless, and true. As we allow ourselves to love, making the choice to see that there are reasons behind all behaviors, we grow the compassion of the Christos, the Christed One, love personified.

Dear Sage Woman, I am interested in booking a session with you and would like to know what your work consists of as a spiritual life coach. Best regards, Teresa C. _________________________ Greetings Teresa, I am taking your question to be a sign as I have received many inquiries this month in regards to my work as an intuitive counselor. meaningful life. We will work on clearing out any energetic blocks to living the life you were always meant to live. One of the ways I work with you is help you to shift gears from being a victim to taking responsibility for your life. Spiritual growth challenges us and opens us up to compassion, love and things that make our lives fuller and richer. It gives life a deeper meaning and strengthens the connection between you and your inner wisdom. Being connected to your inner guidance will, in turn, lead you to live a life full of gratitude and giving. Spiritual healing is a significant part of spiritual life coaching. Some of the methods I use range from chakra healing, reiki, crystal healing and working with the information given intuitively to me by spirit. My goal with you is that you will become the creator of your life rather, then the reactor. You will learn how to keep peace in your life even when you are surrounded by chaos. You will walk away with your own set of tools to use everyday. Solace in the Age of Media & Social Networking by Cynthia M. Brown

Winter slowly creeps across the landscape. A few golden leaves scatter the yard; followed by a deluge of amber ones carpeting the walk, the lawn, the edges of the roadway. The air sweeps from fecund and mild to brisk, damp, to chilling. Time slips backwards and it is dusk and dark before supper. It is a time of solitude. In nature, creatures slumber or migrate. Lone hunters forage the stark landscape. We humans, stay indoors; call for delivery; huddle under the coverlet and watch movies. We humans go social on media, in chat rooms, virtual friends, restaurants‌. So very alone and yet convinced of our connections. The smartphone, its luminous screen, a constant comfort; more so when going out is forbidding and/or inconvenient. This time of year is also about taking stock. This is the season of thanksgiving; reviewing our lives and being

8

grateful. It is also the time of gift-giving and making merry. The season of renewal and resolve tumbling quickly behind. With so much to do; so many places to be; so much expected...how do we find a place to truly be still, glance inward, take stock and find real peace? Solitude and solace share a root, anchored in the soul. This is where one ought look for peace and respite. I find the winter a wonderful time to find space to be and be at peace. Quiet walks in denuded woods; empty parks with long slats of late morning sunshine bathing empty trailheads. I have made the mistake in these retreats, however, of taking my phone. I know it is a great tool for safety and security and yet, it invades these moments. I know quickly snapping photos of those unexpected wonders seems such a boon and a way to keep the moment recorded for myself and others and yet‌.

Dumbo Feathers by Wayne Holmes

This omni-present, often uninvited and unwanted sidekick spoils the moment. I want to come upon a deer and be surprised, stunned by its nearness, frozen into inactivity to drink in the sight, the sound, the smell...undisturbed by the worry of how will I get my phone out, remove my gloves because I don’t have the texting kind, snap a photo and post it on instagram and facebook without scaring the creature off and losing the whole moment… exactly...losing the whole moment by feeling the need to capture and share it rather than just being present in it. That is really it. These blessings, these moments of intimacy with nature and self; these moments that reach into the soul, thus granting solace and solitude; cease to be when we share them. They are for our own eyes, our own experience. Not everything in life is meant to be shared. So this season of thanksgiving, joyful giving, self reflection and self resolve, I will share myself, my affection and my time. I will be much more aware, however, of what is mine, my solace, my solitude, my intimate moments of bliss and blessing, beginning with turning off my techno shadow when I embark on the path of those moments of aloneness. Here is wishing you a soul-filled holiday season. May you fill your own cup of being so you may share yourself more fully with those you love and cherish. Happy holidays,

Dumbo, the Disney character known as the flying elephant, was given a “magic” feather by his friend, Timothy Q. Mouse. While holding the feather with his trunk, Dumbo believed he could fly — and so he did. Without the feather, however, he was certain any attempt would be met with disaster. Dumbo learns at the end of the movie that the feather was merely a prop to give him the confidence he needed. His ability to soar was always inherent in who he was. Let us give credit to the feathers of belief. Without them, some people would never realize that the power to soar lies within them and nowhere else. For some people, religion has become like Dumbo’s feather. Without the religious institution and buildings, without the structure and stricture of the religion they adhere to, they fear they would never make it on their own. Religions provide a Dumbo feather which enables its members to soar. It also provides a place of love and safety, and so we honor and support its efforts. But, in time, people also recognize the weaknesses of religious faith. They realize they can fly with or without the feather of religion. The beauty is we don’t have to choose one or the other. We can have both. The feather gave us our launching point. The feather can provide the courage to take the first leap of faith, and our lives can be enhanced by a balance of religion and spirituality.

Secrets of Christmas Past by Jill Mattson Must buy the perfect present… What to have for Christmas dinner… Get those Christmas cookies baked. When are we trimming the tree? Clean the house... Who will I be with this Christmas? YIKES - I CANNOT HANDLE THIS: ( ... Stress! Stress! Stress! These familiar feelings of dread make a sharp contrast with the true significance of Christmas – Peace on Earth, Goodwill, Joy and Love; Celebration! So how do we reconcile the hustle and bustle and Christmas EXHAUSTION – with the deep feelings of peace and love that we all want? The fastest way that I know of - to enjoy a healthy and balanced Holiday - is right in front of our noses - Music. Not just traditional holiday music, but peaceful, uplifting music that radiates the feeling of joy and goodwill to all who listen! Everyone knows that music alters our emotions, yet we diminish its value by considering music as only entertainment. Music is much more. Music (and other special sounds) makes you feel - it interacts with your emotions. Everyone has snapped their fingers to a lively beat, and relaxed to the soothing sound of the ocean. Music and a wide array of special sound waves interact with our emotions and environment, which are actually energies. Music is comprised of sound waves, which combine with YOU (best when in close proximity). This opens up a whole new way of looking at our world. With each listen you absorb a tiny amount of this precious energy (feeling) via the musical sound energy. If you ingest enough, this fluid energy begins to alter your inner frequencies. Music sets a mood, but with repeated exposure to relaxing and calming music, you gain a peaceful habit. You can listen over and over to relaxing music to until the feelings of the music surface from your subconscious mind as an automated response – no matter how much stress you have. Music’s ability to change our very essence is something we all know, yet inevitably underestimate.

10

Tune your Christmas this year. Enjoy life-long family traditions, family, friends and love without letting materialism, chaos and obligation get in the way. Ingest uplifting music. Use the carols you loved in happy times to transport back into those good spaces and energies. Not just listening to the Christmas channel, but consider soaking in a number of classical selections or music with nature sounds, and bask in a bath of calming energies. Use music to awaken and strengthen your sense of wonder, beauty and magic. My musical compositions typically include carefully crafted healing music; I inject nature sounds, healing frequencies, and rhythms designed to calm your heartbeat and gently transport you into a dimension of peace and relaxation. Music provides a bountiful selection of Christmas gifts - for free or very low cost. In addition to playing music, while driving or baking Christmas cookies, you can relax for just ten minutes and focus on the subtle alterations you receive from listening. Your attention strengthens the healing abilities of music. Science resoundingly reports the positive changes that meditation has on our wellbeing; but music is “automatic mediation”, if we allow it to get under our skin. With no effort, but just slipping into its mood, music alters and uplifts your consciousness… transporting you to the space of “goodwill towards men”! Music is the continual Christmas tonic to calm the holiday stress and anxiety. The music you play around others is your subtle gift of calming energy. Although we don’t unwrap this gift, or even consider it a gift, the selection of music for our loved ones is precious and influential. Other gifts are material, but this one is deeply absorbed and the energies become part of the fabric of the listener. Here is a simple specific step that we can all take during the Holidays to calm and nourish and have fun too. Go Christmas Caroling. When we return to this old-time tradition we are engaging in a very healthy and uplifting activity. Think about it: We are with folks we love, we are outdoors, we are singing! We are

revisiting loved songs that we know intimately from our childhood. The energy surrounding caroling is sublime. Try it! So this blessing of music is something I encourage everyone to try this year. Take the time to truly LISTEN and special music will continually bestow the feeling of peace and love – the ever giving gift of goodwill and inner harmony - a healthy respite during the Christmas mania season. www.JillsWingsOfLight.com

How Can We Create Peace on Earth? by Kevin J. Todeschi

Although Edgar Cayce died more than 70 years ago, so many of the world’s challenges have remained the same, and people just like you and I asked Cayce for guidance decades ago on how they could address the problems of their own time. For countless individuals, that guidance remains just as applicable today. In the face of hate crimes, acts of terrorism, and an ongoing litany of examples of our inhumanity to one another, are there any insights that can be found in the Edgar Cayce material in terms of how to respond individually and collectively? What are we to do in the face of prejudice? What should be our response to fear? What should be our response to terror? What are we to do when things happen in on our city, let alone on the other side of the world? During the early days of World War II, when Europe was in the midst of war and the United States had galvanized much of society to deal with war, a remarkable reading was given in which those in

12

attendance asked for practical and spiritual suggestions to assist them in bringing about World Peace. Cayce’s surprising response suggested that World Peace could be made possible only by collectively creating peace in each of their individual lives: Ye cannot pray “Peace – Peace” when there is no peace in thine own heart and soul! but by knowing (for His spirit answers with thy spirit) that each day, each person ye meet is GLAD that you are alive! GLAD that YOU have come in touch with them; for you have brought - and bring - hope to their lives, just in the passing! This means, then, that you may so live the life as He emulated in the earth, that ye radiate life, joy, peace! that which casteth out fear - by living, by being, by doing unto others, for others, that ye would like others to do unto you ... Only as ye USE that birthright, that purpose, that WILL within thine own consciousness to do justice, to do right, to LOVE good, to eschew

evil, may ye as individuals, as a group, as a nation, stand between the living and the dead - and STAY the sin that maketh man make war - of any nature - against his brother. Thou ART thy brother’s keeper! Act that in thine own heart. Who IS thy brother? “Who is my mother? They that do the will of the Father, the same is my mother, my sister, my brother.” … In this ye may build, here a little, there a little, line upon line, precept upon precept. (397627) When the question was asked as to how the entire organization could work together to stimulate peace, Cayce responded: Then let each one, as a son, as a daughter of the living God, feed His lambs, feed His sheep. With what? The spirit of truth, the spirit of peace! APPLY that NEW commandment as He gave, “Love one another.” In all groups, all organizations, it is not what this or that name or group may do, but as ONE. And when asked about the issue of religious differences, Cayce replied: … more wars, more bloodshed have been shed over the racial and religious differences than over any other problem! These, too, must go the way of all others; and man must learn - if he will know the peace as promised by Him - that God loveth those who love Him, whether they be called of this or that sect or schism or ism or cult! The Lord is ONE! I do not believe the readings would encourage unconditional pacifism in the face of bigotry or terror or war. Instead, I think the readings encourage each of us to actively create whatever “peace” we can create in the very world in which we find ourselves. What does this mean? It means that we should be reaching out to a co-worker against whom we still hold a grudge. It means that we need to speak to a family member that we have cut off from our lives for whatever reason. It means that we need to look in on a neighbor in need; or speak to one that we no longer wave to; or meet one that we have heretofore ignored. And what are we to do towards those who espouse words of bigotry, hatred, and violence? For me, the best example can be found in Scripture. After Jesus had been arrested, charged with a crime he did not commit, mocked, beaten, and hung on a cross, his response was: “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34)

Infinity

In other words, our first response to those who act out of ignorance, fear, or hatred, should be forgiveness. It is at that point that true healing can begin. But what should be our response to something occurring far from us or even on the other side of the world? Most of us are not in a position to impact a military or a government response. However, what we can do as individuals is follow a frequent admonition that exists throughout the Cayce readings: “Do what you know to do and the next step will be given.” At the very least, whenever we become aware of any act of terror, inhumanity, injustice, or war, we can work with the energy of prayer. The readings’ statement: “Ye cannot pray ‘Peace – Peace’ when there is no peace in thine own heart and soul!” suggests that we need to create peace in our own lives, our own hearts, and our own souls. On one occasion, Morton Blumenthal (the individual who built the Cayce hospital in 1928) asked for information on evolution and “survival of the fittest,” Cayce suggested that evolution of the human creature was actually much more complicated. Cayce told Blumenthal: … read history! Which has survived – the brute strength, or the development towards that of God? Which survives – the man that studies God and seeks to emulate His forces and powers, or the man that emulates the forces of earth or flesh? This answers itself! (900-340) If Cayce is right, then world peace will be created one individual at a time. And the collective energies of those individuals will create a vibrational resonance that will transform their lives and, in turn, transform the world. Do we really want to help heal the world? Cayce would ask us to heal a relationship, reach out with forgiveness, offer a helping hand, and cultivate peace in our own lives.

A prolific writer, he is the author of 25 books, including Edgar Cayce on the Akashic Records, Contemporary Cayce (co-authored with Henry Reed) and Edgar Cayce on Mastering Your Spiritual Growth.

5 Ways to Cope with Holiday Stress as an Empath

by Jocelyn Dietrich A few years ago I had no idea what an empath was…let alone that I was one myself. Cue a powerful spiritual awakening and here we are today. The truth of the matter is that I soak up energies like a sponge. This makes it hard to decipher what is my own energy field and what is some other negative energy is attached to me. I easily and willingly gave away my peace and power every day. Despite how lovely the holidays can be – social gatherings always left me feeling drained and icky, like a battery that desperately needed charging. Does this feel like you over the busy holiday season? If so, I have compiled a list of things that might help to make this busy time of year a little less draining for you and your loved ones. 1. Meditate: Sit down in a quiet spot where you can have some uninterrupted time to feel into your energy for the day. Set the intention for how you would like to start and finish your day. This seems like something so simple but for those of us with the ever present “monkey mind” it can actually be quite difficult to shut down and be present. Set aside 5-10 minutes morning and night and feel your worries drain away. Focus on your breathing and creating a beautiful white light all around you. Set the intention to cut the cords of anything around you that will not serve you in a positive manner. 2. Set clear boundaries: Deciding on how to spend your time over the holidays is one of the hardest choices, especially for families that have to split their time and energy into several different locations. You need to be able to be met half way with this. If a time or location does not work for you – let them know! Nothing good comes 14

from bottling up how you feel and just attending every function until you are run ragged. You also shouldn’t feel obligated to attend every single function on your list. Pick the most important to you and be present (mind, body and soul) at those gatherings. 3. Intuitive Eating: For some people holiday time can trigger some anxiety over things like holiday weight gain. As a recovering food addict this is something that I feel to my core. I have dealt with an ongoing sugar addiction for most of my life. During the holidays I would be left with tight jeans and nasty candida infections from eating too much sugar. With that being said, really be intentional and intuitive with your food choices. Make sure to hydrate constantly with water or herbal teas. Try to sit at a table with friends or family so that you can enjoy the conversation and pleasure of company rather than focusing on just the food. Try to eat as whole and healthy as possible in-between the parties. Don’t feel forced or obligated to eat or not eat something. Also, don’t beat yourself up or feed into negative self talk and thoughts over your food choices at this time. Just get back into your normal healthy routine on the next day. 4. Schedule down time: This goes without saying but rest and relaxation are very important. You have to be able to recharge your batteries and let go of yesterday’s energies. Whether it be an afternoon, evening or full day – Intentionally schedule time to refill your cup by doing as little as possible. Read a good book, catch up on your favourite shows or take a cat nap. 5. Fresh Air: I feel a personal connection to being outside and with nature. I think this is something that is missing in our lives today. Take some time Dec / Jan 2019

to disconnect from social media and spend some time outside. A 20 minute walk with my dog and I’m back to feeling energized and refreshed. Take some time during this holiday season and go for a walk around your neighbourhood. Take in the snowy scenes and sparkling lights.

A cardinal is a representative of a loved one who has passed. When you see one, it means they are visiting you. They usually show up when you most need them or miss them. They also make an appearance sharing times of celebration as well as despair to let you know they will always be with you.

The more conscience we are of our own energy the easier it is to focus on implementing strategies and simple routines. This will allow us to cut the cord from things that have been stressing us out and bring us back to a balanced and peaceful energy center throughout the holidays and beyond.

Look for them, they will appear. Wayne Holmes’ Set Your Course shares six months of reflections that will give readers a path to spiritual freedom and help them connect to their soul and inner spirit. Not only does it provide healing from past religious abuse, but also abuse of nearly any form, and beyond that, it provides a path towards taking solid control of one’s religious and spiritual journey.

It wasn’t until I donned a clerical collar that I came to understand how people viewed religious leaders differently. Some were comforted by my presence while others seemed ill at ease. “Before long I realized that many had been damaged through judgment, guilt, rejection, and condemnation by a religion or by someone religious. Mr. Holmes’ words resonate way beyond the printed page—they vibrate within your heart as truth. I absolutely LOVE this book! It is the best bridge I have seen joining traditional religion, spirituality, and the spiritual nature of us all. “The integrity of the author in revealing his own story is authentic, reminding me of the humanness of all of our experiences. Black Strap Sugar?

Sweet as Molasses!

Black Strap molasses has been around for so many years, it is hard to imagine it as a superfood in modern day times. The benefits of consuming this syrup like substance are amazing! Molasses is a by-product of sugar cane’s refining process which results when sugar is crystallized, after being boiled once to create cane syrup, a second boiling creates molasses. A third boiling produces black strap molasses. Organic, unsulphured black strap molasses is the best choice to purchase, to assure that one will receive maximum benefit of the vitamins and minerals it contains. Molasses comes in three varieties, light, dark and black strap. There is another sweet syrup that is called Sorghum which is popular in some states. Sorghum is served with breakfast foods or used in baked goods. However, this is not to be confused with black strap molasses because sorghum is derived from a cereal grain that grows like corn.

16

Containing a good source of calcium, one tablespoon of black strap molasses, consists of a gram of protein, iron, manganese, potassium, copper and vitamin B6. It has no fat but does have at least 12 grams of sugar per tablespoon, surprisingly, it can help to balance blood sugar because of its low glycemic index. To some people, this type of molasses may not taste as sweet if they are used to consuming regular sugar, baking and drinking as a tea is one of the best ways to enjoy this power packed food. It is a good alternative to sugar because it contains the highest amount of antioxidants preventing cell damage. More iron added to a daily diet is possible with black strap molasses. This can produce healthier skin and hair. It treats bowel related disorders as well and may prevent colon cancer. Black strap molasses made into a tea helps to relieve PMS symptoms and can be a wonderful way to enhance the growth and development of a baby during pregnancy.

Dec / Jan 2019

Maintaining a healthy nervous system, molasses can help relieve muscle cramping, spasms, body fatigue and alleviate arthritis symptoms. The potassium it contains may be an easy way to experience improved cardiovascular health and lower blood pressures. Sugar and spice with everything nice, the joy of celebrating with family and friends this Holiday season can be extra healthy baking with black strap molasses. From gingerbread, cakes and pies or your favorite traditional dishes, experience a healthier lifestyle now and throughout the New Year using this wonderful syrup! Life can be sweet as molasses!

Sandy Mazuk & Dr. Baker

My lower back really started bothering me in February of this year (I thought I pulled something when I moved into my new house.) WRONG! My family Doctor gave me muscle relaxers, pain pills, and anti-inflammatory. After a week or two with NO relief, he changed the medications around and I was still receiving NO relief. I was in complete agony for almost three months. A co-worker told me about Dr. Baker. I called that day, May 3, 2010 and got in that same day. After reviewing my x-rays, I found out I had many problems (not from my move) subluxation, degeneration, and pinched nerves in my lumbar. Along with all of that my hips were off! I have to admit, the first three weeks of coming here were very difficult. I really did not know if I could continue but what kept me going were the stories that I was hearing from other patients while I was waiting to get adjusted. It is amazing how many people Doc has done wonders for. After three weeks of coming three times a week I started having relief. Here it is four months later and I am so glad that I did not give up on Doc. I feel so much better, sure I have some days with a little discomfort but when that happens I just add an extra day that week to get adjusted. (I am now down to once a week!)

Dec / Jan 2019

A couple of weeks ago I had an asthma attack. I was skeptical on where to go. It was either my asthma specialist (which was closing in 45 minutes) or go to Dr. Baker’s. Danielle said, “Come here, come here!” So off to Dr. Baker’s office I went. I had already used an emergency inhaler and it did not work and I started to panic which is not a good thing with asthma! While at Doc’s I received EMS, roller bed, and then a massage. Massage? For asthma? I said. I trusted Doc with his recommendations and after my massage with Chris and then an adjustment with Doc my lungs were totally opened! I really was amazed but I should have known he could help me, after all that’s why Doc wanted to grow up and be Chiropractor. He had asthma as a child.

H ow Parents Can Get Winter Solitude Instead of Cabin Fever by Jody Johnston Pawel, LSW, CFLE When you have children, especially energetic, social or involved children, life can be busy, in a wonderful, exciting way! Finding time to be alone, rest, recharge, and rebalance can be challenging. Establishing regular routines can allow time for everyone to recharge and do self-care. During the Winter months, cabin fever can set in when the weather prevents getting outside where children can burn off their extra energy. Having all the children indoors can also make finding solitude challenging. Where you might have been able to wake up before sunrise or stay up after dark, there’s so much more darkness children are often around more during these times. Depending on your and your children’s recharge styles, you can get into conflicts around who wants alone time and who wants to interact, since getting out and

20

around others is more challenging. For example, you may want to be alone and enjoy some solitude on a snow day while your children want you to play with them, because they are bored. Knowing what “recharge styles” are and how they work can be helpful in these times. Recharge styles refer to where you go when you are low or high on energy. There are two styles: Internal rechargers prefer to be alone and go within themselves. When they are over-stimulated they withdraw and want to be alone. When they are low on energy, they may seek solitary activities to do to recharge, like going for a walk alone, reading a book, writing in a journal. External rechargers prefer to be with others and get energy from outside themselves. When they are over-

Dec / Jan 2019

stimulated, they share their energy with a person or activity, like talking or interacting with a person, place (i.e. shopping, nature) or thing (i.e. watching TV, playing a game). Recharge styles have nothing to do with social skills or being an extrovert or introvert. It’s how you maintain your energetic balance. You and your children may have different styles, which is fine, because neither is right or wrong. The activities you do to regain balance, whether from being overly stressed, angry, or low on energy fall into three categories: Verbal or expressive activities, like talking, singing, writing, artwork, etc. Physical activities, like walking, biking, exercising, cleaning, doing outdoor chores. Verbal/Physical activities, like physical artwork (sculpting), singing and dancing, listening to music while you clean or walk. If someone experiences a build-up of physical energy, they need to channel that in physical way, preferably a healthy activity. To them, suggesting that they should sit and meditate or journal is as ridiculous as suggesting to babies that they talk about their feelings instead of crying. When you understand both recharge and energy expression styles, you will see there are six combinations. Knowing which style you and each of your children are, and respecting each other’s differences, can help you each plan where to go and what to do to stay in balance: Internal Verbal, where the person does something expressive alone (i.e. journaling). Internal Physical, where the person does something physical alone (i.e. walk alone). Internal Verbal/Physical, where the person does something both expressive and physical alone (i.e. artwork).

Infinity

External Verbal, where the person does something expressive while interacting with people, places or things (i.e. call a friend). External Physical, where the person does something physical while interacting with people, places or things (take an exercise class or walk with a friend). External Verbal/Physical, where the person does something that’s both expressive and physical while interacting with people, places or things (sing while cleaning or listen to music while running). Try these ideas or anything that fits the criteria and see what feels right. Then, make it a priority to create opportunities each day to do these, to prevent stress build-ups. Lastly, while it’s important to be aware of these styles and create routines where each person can get recharge in a way that works for them, it’s especially important during the Winter months. Internal rechargers will love the solitude while External rechargers may get antsy being stuck inside. So have some options for activities you each can do, both indoor and outdoor, alone and together, active and quiet, so each of you can avoid cabin fever.

However, it is stated that taking care of your health and well being should be taken care of first as always, but the true measure of happiness is in the joy of doing the best for humanity. Both men bring joy to the table despite their differences and backgrounds. With true honor and respect for one another, they share their stories and facts to inspire and teach the reader about creating happiness in one’s life. Peace is obtainable but it must begin with inner peace first with compassion and kindness to one another. The Dalai Lama reminds us to look beyond the material world. Putting things in perspective and considering how other people feel or the suffering they may or may not be going through is just a few of the words of wisdom described in this book. a costly mistake. It was a typical crazy day and I was driving to my bank and decided to get some cash from the ATM, the man in front of me was just leaving. When I drove up to the machine, there big as day was his ATM card, still in the machine. I pulled it out and saw him driving past me slowly down the adjacent street. I quickly thought I could catch him, why I thought I could, I don’t know, it seems silly to me now. Of course, by the time I got on the same street, I had lost sight of his van. I had almost reached home by now and I thought I will look and see if his name is in the phone book first, because you could read his name on the back of his card clearly. I quickly found my phone book and looked the name up and found it very easily, I dialed the number, a man answered. I told him who I was and that I had his card that he left in the ATM machine. He was so grateful and asked if I could meet him. I met him that night, he thanked me and offered me money. I did not take it saying to him with a smile, you never know when I might be in a position and need someone’s help. He thanked me again and drove off. A couple weeks or so passed and I am at the ATM machine again, someone is in front of me, so I am quickly running through my mind, the things I needed to get done, I had a really hectic week ahead and I was getting ready to take care of business details. The car left in front of me, so I drove up to the ATM machine. I could not believe my eyes! Sure enough, the person in front of me had left their card in the machine again! I sat there a little stunned for a second or two, I took out the card and I quickly drove to the drive thru window and explained to a teller what had just happened and they took the person’s card and said they would contact them and thanked me for turning it in. Again, I headed my car back out of the bank and while on my way, I was thinking, how weird, that this had happened to me again and so soon. Time had passed and I did not think of these two incidents really ever again, until... One day I had a busier day than usual and I was out and about in my car when I made a stop to run into a store to exchange a book. I had laid the book down next to my purse on the passenger side. Little did I

Infinity

know, that I had thrown my purse in the car earlier and my ATM card had slipped out and somehow had slipped between the pages of the book. I went on my merry way and thought everything was just fine until I needed to get some fuel and reached for my card and could not find it. It was a terrible sinking feeling, I looked inside the car and my purse what seemed like a hundred times and finally I called the bank and told them to cancel it. To my amazement, the person on the other end of the phone informed me that someone had just called and said they have it and it is in safe keeping until I come back and get it. I was so thankful and still could not believe that someone had turned it in. I remember feeling touched by one single act of kindness, and it warmed my heart. I felt as if an angel was watching over me that day. My Mom always told me, if you do something good for someone, good will come back to you, she was right. - Ashley Conley

Celebrate & Enjoy

with Cindy Huff & Terri Noftsger

December and January are the months Americans set aside to celebrate and enjoy time with our loved ones. We have rituals around sharing food and abundance with one another. We make a point of enjoying ourselves, indulging ourselves in some cases (just one more piece of pumpkin pie, I’ll do an extra 10 minutes on the treadmill on Monday, etc.) Here in the Midwest, it may also be the human version of what the squirrels do at this time of year they uncover all the buried nuts and other choice tidbits, gorge themselves on what they can eat, and stuff the rest in their nests for the cold winter ahead. For those of us who have yards, it is also the time of year when we conduct our yearly ritual of cleaning up leaves and getting outside ready for winter. Since I’ve been outside doing a fair amount of that, I’ve had the opportunity to observe our horses and their antics as the winter approaches. They have given me a whole new perspective on celebration and enjoyment that I’d like to share. Celebration has a lot of meanings depending on

24

who you are talking with. For example, it could be a formal event such as a birthday party or as simple as sitting down to dinner with a loved one to celebrate an anniversary. I was outside one day, and observed the horse version of celebration. It was a beautiful, breezy fall day, and I saw my horse Cheyenne stick her head up, and break into a dead run from a standstill. Her pasture buddy Rohan was right behind her. She bucked, she squealed, she stopped, twirled, and ran in the opposite direction. Rohan reared, bucked, and pranced (he is after all a retired show horse, so he always does things with a touch of elegance). I have seen them run before when something startled or frightened them, but their body language did not indicate fear or anxiety. The horses did this for almost 15 minutes, and it was absolutely stunning to watch. The emotion I got from both of them was sheer joy. They were doing their celebration dance in honor of a beautiful day. I had another opportunity to experience things from the horse perspective this morning. I let both horses out of the barn, and they found a favorite spot,

Dec / Jan 2019

plopped down, and rolled. They did not just roll once and get up. They reveled in the experience. Rohan cannot roll all the way over, so he laid down, really ground himself into the dust (including his head), got up, laid down and did the same thing on the other side. He did this at least twice on each side, then got up, shot straight up in the air (all 4 feet off the ground simultaneously), then began calmly eating hay. Cheyenne, being a full figured, talented girl, can roll all the way over. She did so several times, grunting the whole time. While the logical part of me worried about colic, another part of me enjoyed watching this big creature wallow and snort and thoroughly enjoy herself. It occurred to me that because animals are so intimately connected with Earth and Nature, they are able to respond with honesty and clarity to simple things like a warm breezy day. They are able to truly bond with Mother by encasing themselves in Her. We often say that animals are “in the moment,” meaning that they are fully present at any given point in time. For animals such as horses, this is rooted in survival. Yet, our horses will lie down in the sun and take a nap for short periods of time. Cheyenne will lie flat out on her side and snore. Our dogs and cats love to lie in the sun outside and snooze too.

A gentle reminder for those who live with animals. Holidays can be stressful for animals as well as people. Be sure to talk with them, let them know why you aren’t home as much, that people are coming to visit. Allow animals who are shy or noise sensitive to retreat to a quiet area of the house. If you are considering bringing a new animal into your home, please WAIT until after the New Year when things are calmer.

Welcome to our feature, “Longevity Resources.” Each issue we will cover topics that will explore endless possibilities in achieving optimal health. The Science of Disease Why do Mediterranean people have a very low incidence of cancer? It might just be that they consume a phytochemical known as oleuropein found in the olive leaf extract which has been shown to eliminate cancer tumors in 9-12 days. Cancer cures around the world number more than twenty five. The Hunza people in the Himalaya Mountains eat and drink a diet that does not allow cancer to exist. It is non-existent in their society and their life span ranges in the hundreds. They have no drugs and 80 percent of the foods they eat are grown in the sun. The only meats they eat are fish and fowl plus they eat eight almonds a day which contain vitamin B17. Cancer does not exist in their society. The general public just does not see or hear about these cures because the FDA does not permit them to be manufactured and sold in the United States. Herbal remedies are not patentable. Unless the drugs or any chemical remedy can be patented, the big Pharmaceutical companies are not interested in the product. The billions of dollars that have been spent to find the cure for cancer by the American Cancer Society in the 75 years that I have been around has not turned up a single remedy that will, without question, cure

the CAUSE of cancer. Yes, there is chemotherapy, but the cure ratio with chemo is very poor. Interesting enough Dr. Tullio Simoncini of Rome, Italy, stated that “Cancer is a Fungus” and wrote a book by the same title which I have . He treated many forms of cancer very successfully by treating the Cancer, whether it is breast, lung, colon or prostate. In fact I quote from his book on page 82 “after many years of disappointed expectations in oncology we should firmly discard the matrix as the cause of cancer.” In other words he said that the orthodox treatment of cancer should be abandoned. Chemo therapy only wipes out the cells that actually give our body the ability to fight foreign organisms. Our whole immune system is depleted via chemo therapy. It just does not make any sense to wipe out your fighting system to cure a problem. Dr. F. C. Odds from England discovered some years ago that there were 150 forms of Candida Albicans which is a symbiotic bacterium that belongs in the small intestine. Its function is the absorption of “B” vitamins. Practically every organ in our body needs “B” vitamins, particularly the liver, eyes, and adrenal glands. Without their functions we will not survive. It would be like driving an automobile without an accelerator pedal. This might be what we call the “chronic fatigue syndrome.” The causative factor is the use of antibiotics and steroids that are consumed orally whether it is a prescription or in the foods we eat. Antibiotics and steroids are added to the food of the animal meat we are eating. As long as there is food for candida albicans to feed on in the blood stream, you can’t get it out of the blood and back into the small intestine. One of the things that Dr. Nieper taught me was, “you have to get the food out of the blood stream that candida is feeding on.” Candida Albicans only feeds off dead undigested protein that never got digested in the stomach. Some literature today states that it feeds off of carbohydrates.

Dec / Jan 2019

This is not true. It is a saprophytic bacteria that by definition feeds on undigested protein.

By stopping the destruction of the white and red blood cells, the immune system which involves the spleen, thymus and adrenal glands are preserved.

What I have observed through the Dark field microscope, which allows one to see live activity Candida Albican buds literally tear the walls of white and red blood cells apart which dumps the contents of the WBC’s back into the blood component. This produces a lot of toxicity in the blood. Not only that, but by depleting the number of red and white blood cells, the cause for lymphomas and leukemia is explained. Our white blood cells are our fighters and therefore when gone, we have no fight left.

By producing interferon in between the cells, the viruses are trapped so that the macrophages (WBCs) can literally come to the trapped virus site and eat it up and then take it to the lymphatic cells to be eliminated. Our body operates almost the same way a spider does that makes a web to catch a fly. It has to make the web before it can catch and eat the fly.

My theory is that viruses hiding out somewhere in the body are now able to run rampant causing the cancers to exist because there is no interferon to catch the viruses. Our body needs certain nutritional components to make interferon. For those who have developed cancer, apparently are missing the needed ingredients to make interferon in our body. This is my theory and has not been sanctioned by the FDA.

Interferon is our web to catch the virus so it can be eliminated. This may be a preventative to colds as well, and possibly cancer. Consider the fact that colds and flu are viruses.

Paul F. Fulk, D.C., F.A.S.A.

Dr. Royal Rife in the twenties and thirties discovered the viruses that caused cancer. A few years ago I spent a day with the assistant to Dr. Rife, John Crane, who had been with Dr. Rife in the lab for twenty years, who confirmed his discoveries to me. Definitely proving it was a virus that causes the many forms of cancer. Dr. Rife had developed a microscope that was able to view virus activity in a live form. Whereas the electron microscope that is generally in use today destroys whatever you are looking at because of the intensity of the light that is used. Dr. Rife also found that certain sound frequencies would kill the viruses that caused cancer. Yet his method for treating cancer has never been approved by the FDA.

Find Us on Facebook! Dr. Hans Nieper from Hanover, Germany, taught me how they have treated patients for the last fifty years. He explained how to get Candida Albicans out of the blood stream and back into the small intestine.

Seven Tips to Increase Your Lung Capacity by Dr. Joeseph Mercola While breathing is often an unconscious activity, there are particular actions you can take to optimize your breathing, which in turn will have an immediate and beneficial impact on your lungs. As shown below, experts at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago provide seven tips to help you maintain healthy lungs and also boost your lung capacity.7 Keith Roberts, assistant professor and director of respiratory care clinical services at Rush University, suggests these techniques will benefit healthy people as well as anyone dealing with lung-related illnesses such as asthma, chronic bronchitis or emphysema.8 1. Breathe using your diaphragm — Diaphragmatic breathing is so named because it creates awareness of your diaphragm, the large muscle separating your abdominal cavity from your thoracic cavity that plays an important role in breathing. “By concentrating on lowering the diaphragm as you breathe in, you’ll get a much deeper inhale,” asserts Roberts. “This is the technique professional singers use to increase their lung capacity.”9 The COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) Foundation shares details on how to perform this technique, noting it is best used when you’re feeling relaxed and rested and when you are lying down or sitting back. For best results if you have COPD, ask your doctor or respiratory therapist to show you how to perform this type of breathing. To do diaphragmatic breathing:10 • Place one hand on your abdomen and the other on your upper chest, while focusing your breathing on your abdomen • Breathe in and out in a manner to cause the hand on your abdomen to move slightly, while your chest remains as still as possible

It’s best to begin this type of breathing while lying on your back; later you can try it while sitting, then standing and, eventually, even when you are doing active tasks 2. Count your breaths — With respect to this technique, you count how long a natural breath takes and then seek to increase the length of both your inhalations and exhalations. Avoid straining and allow the extension of your breaths to become a gradual, comfortable process. 3. Get regular exercise — At least 60 minutes of moderately intense movement daily, such as a brisk walk, jog or bike ride, is beneficial for your lungs. “Regular moderately intense activity is great for the lungs, and when you increase your daily activity you get three things done at once: healthy lungs, a healthier heart and a better mood,” states physical therapist Jennifer Ryan, program coordinator in critical care at University of Chicago Medicine.11 Overall, exercise is beneficial because it makes your muscles more efficient, boosts your lung capacity, improves your circulation and strengthens your heart. Some of my favorite exercises include core training, high-intensity interval training, stretching, walking, weight training and yoga. Ryan suggests your lungs will benefit from intense activity, which also helps “counteract the buildup of toxins and tar in the lungs caused by environmental pollutants, allergens, dust and cigarette smoke.”12 4. Join a breathing club — If you have lung or breathing problems and are unable to exercise, Ryan recommends you join a support group known as a “breathing club.” The objective of these groups is to support you as you work on effective breathing techniques, as well as receive support and information to help improve your quality of life.

• Keep your mouth closed and inhale and exhale through your nose only

According to Ryan, the ALA offers Better Breathers Clubs throughout Illinois and around the country. To find one near you, visit the ALA website13 or call (800) LUNG-USA (586-4872).

• Practice this method of breathing two to three times a day for five to 10 minutes each

5. Laugh and sing more — “Laughing is a great exercise to work the abdominal muscles and increase

lung capacity,” says Ryan. “It also clears out your lungs by forcing enough stale air out that it allows fresh air to enter into more areas of the lung.”14 In addition to laughing, singing may also help boost your lung capacity. A small 2015 study involving Indonesian students and spirometry tests indicated the lung vital capacity of choir singers (3.12 L) was greater than non-singers (2.73 L).15 As presented in the video above, the British Lung Foundation (BLF) promotes singing for lung health.16 About the beneficial impact of the BLF’s singing groups, Linda, a COPD clinical nurse specialist featured in the video, said:

7. Stay hydrated — Just as proper fluid intake is vital to the health of your other organs, drinking sufficient water on a daily basis is important to maintain healthy lungs. “Staying well hydrated by taking in fluids throughout the day helps keep the mucosal linings in the lungs thin,” Ryan comments. “This thinner lining helps the lungs function better.”19

“When [the singing group participants] first started, it was hard to get any notes out of them … now, they are actually singing whole songs. It’s quite amazing how much they’ve benefited from [singing].

1, 2 Lung Institute July 27, 2016

It’s given them a much better quality of life, they’ve improved their lung capacity … some of them don’t seem to get exacerbations of their COPD anymore, and they are using their inhalers less.”

6. Maintain good posture — Given their location and the fact your lungs are soft structures, poor posture can influence your lung capacity. About the importance of maintaining good posture and taking occasional stretch breaks, Ryan states:17

“You want to occasionally sit tall and reach overhead, to make more room for your lungs. A simple technique for giving your lungs even more room is leaning back slightly in a stable chair, lifting the chest and opening the front of your body as you breathe deeply.” Based on a 2006 study18 evaluating the impact of different sitting postures on lung capacity, expiratory flow and lumbar lordosis, the study authors concluded slumped sitting significantly decreased all three measures. If your breathing is negatively impacted by long hours of sitting, especially if you have a desk job, you might consider investing in a standing desk, which I use personally and highly recommend.
