Finding the Soul of the Land by Cynthia M. Brown

I am tied to the earth. I am of native descent and I have always felt the livingness of the land-all of it, the creatures, the plants, the soil itself. I worked for five years at a spiritual retreat center in the foothills of Appalachia, land very much like where I was born. I left that job with great difficulty; a difficulty borne of my feelings of connectedness with that place. I made a promise to myself that I would carry what I learned there, that all the land is one; that the earth does not recognize lines on a map or nationalities or our perceived ownership; with me. Recently, I went home for a week. Home for me is the state of Georgia, foothills of Appalachia, pine flat and the tidal islands off the coast of Savannah. I stayed in a small cottage three blocks from the beach. I walked the sand, swam in water so clear I could see my feet even as the tide churned the sand beneath them. As I

4

walked with my partner, three stingrays rose up from their burrow beneath the sand and slowly swam away. We could have reached out and touched them they were so close. The dolphins play so close to the shore, you can see their eyes and mouths from the beach where you sit. Pelicans, sandpipers and seagulls all busily feed, uncaring of our presence. I was struck there by how quiet it was, how the sound of non-human life was so overwhelming, so beautiful, so comforting. My home in the city seems so noisy in comparison. I thought of my promise and as I watched pelicans dive for fish in the setting sun, I made that promise again. I am home now. My green yard is a jumble of weeds and unkempt gardens. I am still not quite able to manage more than mowing the lawn. Still, I listen.

June / July 2017

The birds call so loudly I can hear them above the rattling air conditioner. I can hear the rain hiss on the dry ground and smell the earth as it drinks in the water. I think it is really this simple. We work so hard to get away… We believe nature is out there, somewhere, where there are no cars, no buildings… We tell ourselves that we have to go find the peace and tranquility of nature… The truth is, we are in nature all the time. The natural world envelops us. It takes back every inch we conquer. I just read the book the Hidden Life of Trees. The author notes that in nature, especially in tree life, things just happen more slowly. We don’t observe things because we move too quickly to notice. Think about your patio… You pull up all the weeds that pop up between the stones and then, quite suddenly, they are all back… Birds will nest beneath the cover of a gas grill or on the blades of a porch ceiling fan. I watched two bird families raise their young right on the blades of my ceiling fan. Each day, I sat with coffee and watched the feeding process for hours, amazed and enchanted by it. Since coming home, I have been making a practice of closing my eyes and simply listening to the earth. I take deep slow breaths and open my eyes and really look at my weed garden. There are so many, many shades of green so much life.. Right here. I can not always get away to the peace and quiet of a park or a seacoast. I can, however, close my eyes and listen to the beauty of the natural world right in my own back yard. I can remember, that this earth is all one. It has no boundaries, no governments, no politics, no economic status… it is simply filled with life, with music, with the business of being. Each flower, each leaf, each bird, each butterfly is a gift and a prayer. This summer, please do try to get away. And, when you come home, come on home to the promise and gift that lies just beyond the kitchen window.

ASpiritual sk Sage Woman: Advice

for the Real World with Sage Woman

Dear Sage Woman, One of my biggest fears is death. I struggle to find any type of peace around it. This fear has been my biggest source of anxiety and has affected my ability to enjoy life. Do you have any insights that might help me in facing this ultimate fear? With love, Dawn W.

on our next souls journey, would we fear death? The problem is that we can’t know this in a scientific way. We can only know it in an intuitive way. Remember, we are a spiritual being having a human experience.

_____________ “The day which we fear as our last is but the birthday of eternity.” – Lucious Annaeus Seneca Blessings to you Dawn. Fear of the unknown is at the root of death. I can only offer you my own thoughts and beliefs around this great mystery of life. Fear of death is fear of change. Death is change at the most basic structural level. You can change your body and experiences through new concepts. Realizing that every change brings you an opportunity to renew allows you to see the beauty of the plan, the divine order, in all movement. There are two main beliefs around death. One belief is that when we die, we disappear. Another is that when we die, we will be punished for our sins. If we could be sure that when we die, our consciousness goes on living, would we fear death? If we could be sure that our true self - not our ego, but instead our soul - is immortal, would we fear death? If we knew that the only judgment we would experience would be reliving the choices we made in our body, would we fear death? If we knew we were returning to Spirit and unconditional love, and this love would assist

6

From a scientific point of view neither beliefs can be proven. We cannot prove that we will disappear or return to spirit. We can choose to believe whatever we want to believe, so why choose to believe something that terrifies us. The law is: As you think, so will you be. Fear is overcome by love. Thinking thoughts of love fills your being with love. Learning to accept death as natural and universal helps us recognize we are part of a great cycle and everyone goes through the very same thresholds: conception, birth, and death. Near-death researcher Norman Van Roy once said, “Like the child being born, we have no choice but to yield ourselves to the unknown.” You can choose to view your body and contribution to this world as an honor. We have had the privilege of living; so let’s be grateful and accept death when it eventually comes. I choose to live my life as if each day were my last. We never know when the day we are living truly is our last day to enjoy the beauty of being in human form. It is natural and normal to fear the unknown, however we are also giving the gifts of intuition which when we connect to our soul and our creator

June / July 2017

we can lift the veils of fear and come from gratitude and appreciation for simply being. Dawn, I honor your journey and your beliefs and your fears. Know that they are normal but that you alone have the power to change your thoughts, words, and actions from fear to faith. Begin to live life to the fullest. Make a list of things you want to experience and start living! I send you peace, comfort, and deep spiritual connection to your life’s purpose and destiny. You are in my prayers.

Sounds of Summer by Jill Mattson

The sweet thoughts of summer pop up in our thoughts at the end of winter. Why are these feelings of summer almost delicious??? In summer, nature reveals her creative masterpieces… at full bloom. But still, why does it feel so wonderful to be outside in the summer??? Ancient masters noticed how healing nature felt. They replicated shapes found in nature and reduced them to numbers, which then were converted to cycles per second or musical notes… and eventually musical scales. Music using this scale felt healing to them as well. Up until the Renaissance, this frequency pattern was enjoyed when people listened to most music. In this way, people “musically absorbed” nature’s “secret energy patterns”, ingesting her healing energy at any time. (We no longer use nature frequency patterns in our music. Today’s musical scale is similar to a gmo!) These special numbers and shapes are called

8

the Fibonacci numbers and are found everywhere: in the swirl of a sea shell, the shape of a twinkling galaxy and they exist thousands of times in our own bodies. When we walk in nature we are exposed to thousands of these tiny Fibonacci frequencies and they intermingle with our own energy, subtly and unconsciously “tuning us” – making us feel great. Also found outdoors on a summer day is the Schumann frequency, another sound that is too small in volume for us to be conscious of. (This sound is believed to be created in the atmosphere close to Earth from lightning strikes around the world.) However, the fact that Schumann frequency volume is too low for us to hear doesn’t mean that it doesn’t affect us. Recall that x-rays affect us and we don’t see or hear them either. In space flights, aero engineers simulate this frequency as astronauts get ill without it! Studies have shown that this frequency is present when

June / July 2017

people are healing. It is blocked by concrete and the foundations of most of the buildings in which we live and rarely leave in the winter time. The stars twinkle and wink at us from above – whether or not we actually see them (as in the daytime). Planets create frequencies in their orbits (well below our hearing range), being recorded by satellites. (This subtle energy has been called “astrology” by some.) A study in New Mexico compared plants receiving sounds of these planetary orbits in our solar system with plants that did not. Plant growth was remarkably improved with plants receiving these star sounds!1 Plants are nourished by star sounds! We get a heavier dosage of sound nutrients when we are outside. People have placed sensors, like those used in a lie detector test, on the roots and leaves of plants and flowers to demonstrate that plants sing songs, in a beautifully luscious way – again, below our hearing volumes that we consciously detect. This is why we give flowers to people who are sick or to mourners at funerals. Subtly they receive these uplifting songs. French physicist Joel Sternheimer, measured the frequencies of amino acids in plants, the building blocks of the plant-proteins. When he organized the frequencies of the amino acids in the same order as they naturally occurred in nature, they created songs. Each species has its own protein and musical selection! One of the plant songs was a recognizable song, Ol Solo Mio. I suspect the composer of Ol Solo Mio was in nature and unconsciously absorbed this delightful song and then penned it into music! We absorb these beautiful sounds of nature! They become part of us… when we are in nature.2 Finally a multi-discipline MIT research team undertook the task of producing article spider silk, which is known for its durability and flexibility. The scientists failed numerous times, making the replica of the silk either strong or flexible, but they were not able to produce both until the musician-onthe-team analyzed the silk in terms of frequencies. The frequency of the components of the spider’s silk created harmonious music. The frequencies of the failed-silk-produced-by-scientist produced harsh noises. When the scientists copied the music (in too low of a volume for us to hear) of the spider’s silk,

Infinity

they replicated the strong and flexible silk. Nature’s gifts are linked to her subtle and harmonious music.3 When we ingest or spend time in nature, we upload the harmonious sound patterns that are healing on all kinds of un-seen levels. The best part is that the sounds of summer make us feel great too! Author’s Spotlight Recommended Reads Good Grief, Heal Your Soul, Honor Your Loved Ones, and Learn to Live Again by Theresa Caputo with Kristina Grish Quote from the book, “Heaven isn’t that far away, and your loved ones are with you anytime you call on them.” This book was inspired by Theresa Caputo’s clients and spirit as she spoke in a recent interview with Infinity Magazine. She expresses to the reader that there is no right or wrong way to grieve while honoring each soul. Good Grief is a guidebook for those people who have suffered the loss of a loved one. Theresa spoke of being open to the signs of someone who has crossed over who may be trying to communicate with you. She recommends keeping a journal close by. Write down thoughts or inspirations about your feelings or pen a letter to your loved one. Theresa states that they may be with you in spirit as you write it especially for them. This will help in the healing process. Theresa gives examples in her book of people who have had heartbreaking experiences and how they endured the pain of the grieving process. Good Grief is a wonderful book to help you every step of the way towards inner peace. Theresa’s compassion and sincerity to help all who wish to heal and connect with the souls of their loved

ones profoundly resonates through the pages of her book. She truly loves all of humanity as she reaches out to make a difference in the lives of others. Theresa Caputo’s Good Grief, Heal your Soul, Honor Your Loved Ones, and Learn To Live Again is a recommended read. It can be purchased in Kindle, Hardback and audio version on Theresa’s website, TheresaCaputo.com or Amazon.com.

Longevity Resources Discovering Optimal Health Naturally

Welcome to our newest feature, “Longevity Resources.” Each issue we will cover topics that will explore endless possibilities in achieving optimal health. We are honored to feature one of own past writers, Dr. Paul Fulk (1935-2014). The article written below is just one of many he had written over the years. He was a true pioneer in the field of alternative health and nutrition. The statements or content of the article in this feature is strictly to educate and inform. It is not intended to replace the care and advice of your regular physician.

How to Avoid Toxins in Our Diet It has been my dedication and passionate commitment to help patients to live a healthier life, than you ever thought possible, or ever dreamed of. There is no way I can explain in one article the total facts of what it takes to attain a total state of what we call “being healthy.” However, I will in an anept way condense some of the major facts of what it takes to achieve a level of wellness and more particularly as it relates to the role that water plays in our lives. Our generation may well be called the “healthless” generation. With today’s pollution in our air, water and food, good health for the average person is near

June / July 2017

impossible to achieve. Degeneration diseases, which were almost unknown a century ago, are epidemic today. I have seen an increase in chronic degenerative diseases such as arteriosclerosis, arthritis, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, obesity, and hypertension. Even though the pharmaceutical continues to make vaccines and drugs to correct these conditions, they still seem to progress and cause death, pain, and heartache. Antibiotics sometimes provide a band-aid for many conditions, but do they cure or bury the disease? In the news media, we are told that the general public are being poisoned by the water that they drink, supplied to them by the city water systems. This is happening because so many people are taking medications, that will ultimately end up in the sewage water. This toxicity cannot be treated by the sewage systems. This does not include the addition of fluoride that is being added to the water supply by the treatment plant. Fluoride is a very toxic substance to our bodies. The food we eat has been infiltrated by toxic chemicals, such as BHT, Sorbate, MSG, and artificial sweeteners, all under the guise of preserving foods, or enhancing their flavor. How is our liver supposed to filter out all these chemicals and toxic residues in order to keep us healthy? It’s no wonder that the incidences of cancer and heart disease are on the rise. Diet sodas are not diet products. It is a chemically altered, multiple sodium, and possibly Aspartame containing product. Diet sodas cause many symptomatic health problems. One should avoid any food that is labeled sugar-free. Over the many years I have seen a lot of “sick and tired” people, that had they not changed their diet and way of living, would not be here today. By changing their eating and drinking habits they have greatly extended their lives. It is not what we eat, but what is eating us. It is the foods we eat, and liquids we put into our bodies. The people drinking soda pop are subjecting themselves to the possibility of a heart attack or stroke. Your body’s fluids have to be 12,000 Microsieman (MS) or less to avoid clotting formation of fats and blood cells. Anything above that number could be life

Infinity

threatening. I have found many of the popular soda drinks are in ranges of 493,000 MS to 2,250,000 MS. I have an instrument that measures the Microsieman, and have personally measured the contents of many of the popular drinks. I found it very shocking to see the total numbers of MS, and total solids that are contained in some of the drinks that are marketed as health drinks as well. Drinking purified filtered water, is the best way to hydrate your body while avoiding chemicals and toxins. Eating a balanced diet that provides a adequate amount of non-steroid, non-antibiotic protein, carbohydrates, vegetables, and the right kind of fats (no trans-fats), will keep your body in a proper acidalkaline (PH balance) and a healthy state. This will add many years of healthy living to all of us. Dr. Hans Selye said “There is no such thing as allergies, there are only people who cannot deal with their environment.” He wrote several books, one of which was “The Stress of Life,” a great book to read. I have found that in cases when people are allergic to wheat, rye, and oats, or all of the gluten family foods, many exhibit symptoms of asthma and adrenal stress, which produces asthma. The body does not know how to identify these foods, or how to process them. The parotid glands in the jaw are responsible for doing this. Because of the MMR shots that children receive in childhood, and adults that have never had the Mumps, the body reacts in an allergic reaction to these stressors. In combination with Candida Albicans, yeast bacteria gets into the blood stream, which I have seen under the microscope actually destroy red and white blood cells, and you have a systematic pair that is keeping the body in a total state of stress and immune system depletion, which means you are gluten intolerant. A Doctor of Chiropractic can assist in alleviating these symptoms with an adjustment that will help correct the glands so that they will work to identify the gluten, and a system of getting the Candida back into the small intestine where they have a job to do in order to reestablish the immune system so that you can deal with the environment.

Spirit of Summer: Meditation by Cynthia, White Flower

Let the Spirit of Summer rejuvenate and relax you through the gifts of nature! Summer, the season of growth, is filled with warmth, glorious beauty and progression. Summer serves as an internal clock, reminding us of our personal spiritual growth, while mirroring the process of rejuvenation. We only have to reach out and acknowledge this concept to make it our reality. A meditation on Summer’s sacred gifts of transformation will help. Let’s ask our higher self to join us to make the meditation more powerful. “I AM at one with YOU, my Higher Self - which is my higher consciousness. I ask You to be at one with me and to enhance this meditation with Your light and love, and empower it with Your Presence.” Breathe deeply and say it again, bringing the sacred power of “The I AM” into motion (1). Saying it a third time, we acknowledge the first principle of the power of The Creator within

12

us – also known as our “I AM Presence.” (2) This allpervading Presence opens the door to that which is divine within us and helps us to reach our goals. Now, we will being our meditation on the seven sacred colors that Summer magnifies, and Ascended Master Kuthumi wrote about in Understanding Yourself (p. 12-13). We will begin with the color blue. The sky is a more vibrant blue in the summer, reminding us that we are vibrant. We can tap into the will of the Creator by meditating on the color blue. Let’s see our self in a shower of blue now, holding the color and feeling its attributes of courage, certainty and initiative emerge. When it feels right to move on, fill your body with the color yellow, and feel the intelligence of the Universe within. Feel the illumination ray of the sun as it fills every cell of your body! It is our light, our energy, our source! It brings us new life and rejuvenation. We are

June / July 2017

reminded of its gifts everywhere! Take in the yellow, the sun rays, the color of the chrysanthemum, the Black Eyed Susan, the yellow rose to feel the Universe communicate its wisdom and understanding through yellow’s ray! When you are ready, change to the color of love and creativity – pink. Feel the gentle inspiration and warmth fill you as you share the presence of pink in Summer’s flowers. Feel the energies of creativity’s expansion through the pink Dahlias, experience love’s pride in the pink Hollyhocks, and feel your magnificence in the pink Petunias as they fill you with joyous giggles. These qualities reside in you! You have only to feel and acknowledge them to help them to grow. White is next as we shower in this vibration of purity. This ray serves for the transformation of our consciousness to higher aspirations. We see it in the clouds that dance across the sky, we experience it in the fragrance of the Lilies of the Valley flowers, and we witness its resilience in the Daises. White serves to clarify – to wipe the slate clean. It brings peace and tranquility. Green is the color of summer! It is everywhere, the grass, the trees, plants, flowers, indeed it is the foundation of our existence! This color reflects the vitality of health and the horn of plenty - abundance. The vibration supports the summer of warmth and precipitation. It is said to be the color of truth because it shows itself to be what it is – life in support of all living things. Feel the healing color of green coursing through your body as you engorge the rays! Feel the abundance of the Universe fill you! Invite these qualities into your life! Purple is the color of spirituality. It is the mixture of red for strength and blue for integrity. This is the color of higher spiritual attainment, as displayed in ceremonial robes throughout history. This vibration seems to be more prominently displayed, out numbering other colors in both, the spring and in the summer. It a dominate color and the summer brings us the Lavender, Clematis, Balloon Flower, Gladiolus, Aster, Morning Glory and the list goes on. This color reminds us of our true purpose: our own personal spiritual attainment! Feel yourself moving in that direction as you bathe in this color. Gold is the gift of summer. We see Marigolds, Sun

Infinity

Flowers, Viking Palm Flowers… Gold is also a gift of condensation from within the earth and it sustains itself. Gold is pure and it mirrors our Divine Origin. To meditate on the color gold is to meditate on your Divine Origin. Gold will not accept impurity and it seeks to maintain its high quality. This is what we are to aspire to. This color is reflected in the sun and in flowers in nature. However, for the sake of perfection, see yourself in a pure gold pyramid. See the walls around you and the floor beneath you in pure, 100% gold, both inside and out. State aloud, “I AM surrounded by my Divine Origin. I AM divinity. Nothing but divinity resides here and nothing less than divinity can enter.” Feel the stress melt away as you reunite with your Divine Origin. The last vibration is violet. It is the combination of blue for cleansing and pink for love. This combination creates the transforming energies of the violet flame. This ray transmutes and transforms karma. This transforming color is reflected in the Bell Flower, Butterfly Bush, Sweet Pea, Purple Pansy, Fox Gloves and this list goes on as well. Violet is considered “freedom’s flame” in the I AM Discourses, Vol III, as well as the color for mercy. Alternative Medicine Options

to Rejuvenate Your Body & Mind by Brian Eastman

“Europeans are at least 40 years ahead of us in their medical practices,” my doctor says. At the monthly Healers Gatherings I host we have been learning about some European modalities. Many of them help bodies return to their original healthier function. “They help your body and mind act younger and healthier again,” my wife says!

or flue symptoms. Note: the internet offers many low-power units, for instance running on 9-volt batteries. These success stories come from people who used the higher-power units, more like the original design. I know of only 4 publicly-accessible higher-power units in Southwest Ohio.

Here are four healing modalities you should know about:

My doctor regularly studies in Europe. My first visit, he injected ozone gas into my painful arthritic knee. “It’s the common treatment in Europe,” he told me. “It reduces inflammation and rebuilds cartilage.” I walked out pain-free after the shot. I’ve only needed perhaps 8 shots over the 14 years since. I’ve recently heard that two Indianapolis physicians have begun offering ozone treatments. Maybe American medicine is beginning to catch up with Europe!

Kacelia Developed by a polish chiropractor, Kacelia lets gravity help the spine, neck and head regain proper alignment. People I know have reported results such as back pain gone, strained muscles relaxed, whole body feels better, higher energy level. European BFI Device Originated in Germany, BFI devices are used in hospitals and clinics in Europe, India, South Africa. They are becoming easily available in the United States. The BFI device improves blood flow even in micro-capillaries. The body begins receiving the quantity of oxygen and nutrition like it did when it was younger. Thus the body is able to return to a healthier state of being. Here are some of the health improvements my wife and I have experienced ourselves and witnessed in others: back pain gone, migraines gone, neuropathy pain gone, constant fatigue gone, warmer extremities, clearer thinking, better sight, diabetes symptoms reduced, kidney and heart functions improved. Rife Frequency Generator & Transmitter Invented in the 1920s and 1930s, medical trials showed success in destroying cancer cells so people could subdue their cancers. Rife machines were designed to also destroy toxic bacteria, viruses and fungal infections. Two people I know credit Rife devices with curing their terminal cancer. My wife and I use ours to beat off oncomirng cold

Mango Tango

Shall We Dance?

Known as the “King of Fruit, and recently declared a superfood, the mango has unique health benefits that may perhaps go unnoticed as we enjoy the rich sweetness with every bite. This wonderful fruit has been discovered to protect us from cancers such as colon, breast, leukemia and prostrate, according to new research. Powerful antioxidant compounds found in mangoes are the source of this added protection. Fresh mango is packed with essential vitamins; A, B6, C, E and K. All of these nutrients work together to help maintain healthy skin, vision and much more to enhance the functions of the body. Mangoes provide a boost to the immune system to ward off infections. It is important to note that the

Vitamin A found in mangoes can cause conflict with an individual on certain blood thinning medications, in which case this fruit must be avoided. This delectable fruit has a good source of potassium and copper. Potassium helps to control heart rate and blood pressure. Copper is an important mineral that is required for the production of red blood cells. Mangoes come in various sizes and colors. They are typically found in the produce department. Mangoes that are not ripe should not be eaten, as it may cause a possible allergic reaction. They can be stored at room temperature or refrigerator until they are ripe. If it is not possible to find organic, make sure to wash them in cold running water, and dry them using a soft cloth. Mangoes can be enjoyed without any

In the Garden with Edgar Cayce

Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) has been called the “sleeping prophet,” the “father of holistic medicine,” and the most documented psychic of the 20th century. For more than 40 years of his adult life, he gave psychic “readings” to thousands of individuals, diagnosing illness and revealing past lives and future prophecies. He also wrote hundreds of letters to stay in touch with individuals who had readings. These letters provide a unique glimpse into his thoughts while not trance. The readings were numbered to protect the privacy of individuals. Below is an excerpt from a letter sent to Mrs. [464] on Oct. 21, 1932 (464-12 Reports). I appreciate very much your telling me about your garden, and troubles with it. For so many years I had little opportunity to plant anything in the ground, or have flowers around us, that since I have been at Virginia Beach all the time the family tell me that I spend every spare nickel I can get hold of, and a lot I shouldn’t, on trying to have things like that around me. In the first place I lived here [115 West 35th St., Va. Beach] I had quite an assortment on a very small lot, for though I only had about 140 x 50 feet, including the house and garage, I had fruit trees of every description almost—pear, plum, cherry, peach, apple, grapes, as well as a little garden, though I couldn’t make this very large, but I had a very nice asparagus bed, onions, beans and tomatoes, as well as a little bed here and there of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and—of course—an old-fashioned garden with roses, violets and the like. The last year I have been moving around considerable, and such things, you know, can’t just be pulled up and set down anywhere and be expected to do anything; so practically the only thing I’ve saved out of all the beautiful assortment is my violets. They have been moved so often that I suppose when they see anyone coming with a hoe they wonder where they’re going next. They are very appreciative, and if given the opportunity they bloom forth with all their might and main, and raise those beautiful heads with all the fragrance that is theirs alone to give. They are blooming beautifully now, and will no doubt continue until next June, as they have done since I have had them.

18

The place where we are now living doesn’t just yet permit making much of a show for a garden, or trees, as we are very close to a little fresh water lake [308 Arctic Crescent at 14th St.]. Can you imagine looking out one window and seeing the lake, while looking out another and seeing the ocean?... I love all nature, for there seems to be—as it did I was a child—the attempt to speak to me very often of my Maker. Life in all its essence must be from that Creative Energy we have called God. Plants, animals and everything, including human beings, show their appreciation of every effort man makes towards setting forth that love that must have been expressed when God brought them all into existence. Just as kindly thoughts and loving hands will enable your hibiscus to bring forth those beautiful petals, so do contention, selfishness, greed and avarice, bring forth those weeds that allow them to choke life out. The earth didn’t bring forth those weeds and briars that were obnoxious until man erred, so they must be as much of man’s making; for he is a co-creator with God, as no doubt you are learning more and more by reading and studying Science… Everything has been tamed, we remember, except man’s tongue. As someone said, we speak so loud that our neighbors can’t hear what we say; or our actions speak louder than words. For the last few days we have had some very stormy weather. It is rather our season for such, but today it is very beautiful outdoors. While the sun hasn’t entirely broken through the fog and mist, we can hear the birds singing and it is warm enough not to have a fire, even with the windows open. Shrubbery and trees in the forest and about the house are taking on all the golden tints of autumn, and we are reminded that this is time for nature—as represented in our flowers and shrubs—to prepare for rest, that men have called death; yet will bloom forth again in the spring, if they are given any sort of opportunity, to bring joy and gladness to those that love to see beauty in any and all of its angles in their lives… Know that we are always glad to hear from you…

Summertime

by Cindy Huff & Terri Noftsger

So many of us dream of when summer gets here… The time of year when days are long and life is supposed to slow down and be enjoyed. The time of year for vacations and life outdoors. As a child it was my favorite time of year. A time of relaxation and reading. Riding bikes and playing with friends. A time to run in the yard and look up at the stars. While it still is my favorite season, summer seems to fly by as I work long hours and no longer enjoy my summers off. As one of my favorite authors, Gretchen Rubin, reminds me, “the days are long, but the years are short.” So I wonder how to slow time this summer and experience it so that the memories stay with me long after the warm weather has faded.

some clues. Animals live in the moment. They are great teachers for us, if we let them. What have I learned from the animals no longer with me? First, is my wonderful Peke-a-poo, Nathan. I took him on vacation to Oklahoma when he was 17. If you’ve not been there, the wind is always blowing. When I’d go outside with him, he would sit facing the wind. He would smile really big and seemed so at peace. When I asked him, he said he loved the wind there…it brought the smells to him without him having to work for it. He really appreciated that in his old age. He taught me to look for things to appreciate…even the wind bringing the smell of summertime.

As I often do, I look to the animals in my life for

Next, I think of our Bassett Hound, Maggie. Of all

the dogs I’ve ever known, she embodied the joy in living. Her favorite thing to do was to take a nap in the sun in our gravel driveway. When I asked her why that was her favorite spot, she would say the rocks hold the heat of the sun. So by sleeping there, she got the warmth of the sun - double. So if I have the opportunity to sit on a sun-warmed surface, I think of Maggie and am doubly grateful. I also think of Cindy’s horse, Rusty. He had only one eye and his vision was decreasing in his other eye. But every morning, as the Sun would begin to rise, if we looked out, we would find that he, along with my horse Rohan, would stand facing the rising sun. He did this without fail. When I asked him why, he gave me the feeling of gratefulness and the blessings of another day. There was a reverence that came from him that there is another day of being on this beautiful planet. I often drive to work as the sun is rising. When I see it, I think of Rusty and feel blessed that another day has arrived and give thanks for the new day. Our current animals are teachers as well. Simba the cat knows the joy of smells as the summer allows him to be on the screened-in porch. TJ, our Podengo (a sight-hound), reminds me of the blessings of sight as he spots each movement of the barn cat, the squirrels, the bicyclists as they ride by. Beau and Lukas, our Bassets, remind me of the joy of singing as they bark and roo when we come home. Along with the singing of the birds, they remind me that all of nature sings, if you only know how to listen. When you can, go outside. If you have an animal in your life, let them show you how to connect with and appreciate the natural world around you. Wildlife is also willing to help you connect. It is as simple as listening to the sound of the birds in the summer. Listen and let all of nature sing to you. It is the small moments that make up each day.

FofourToxic Major Sources Pollution in Your Home by Dr. Joeseph Mercola According to Dr. Lee Cowden, a board-certified interventional cardiologist who has developed an exceptional teaching program for the Academy of Comprehensive Integrative Medicine (ACIM), more people die from cancer treatment than from cancer itself. He may well be correct, considering how toxic most conventional cancer treatments are. Without a doubt, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure when it comes to cancer, and cleaning up your living space can go a long way toward lowering your toxic burden. While the sources of environmental pollution are many, four major sources of toxic exposure in your home are: • Indoor air pollution • Contaminated water • Toxic lawn care

Disturbingly, children have been found to have levels of flame retardants that are as much as five times higher than their mothers.’8 How to Remediate Poor Air Quality Considering how impure the air is in most homes, you’d be well-advised to implement one or more remediation strategies. Following are a handful of basic suggestions.9 For even more tips on how to reduce indoor air pollution, as well as the different air purifier technologies available, see this previous air quality article. Regularly ventilate your home This recommendation is virtually free. All you need to do is open up windows on opposite sides of your home for five to 10 minutes every day to cross ventilate. This will go a long way to help radically reduce your indoor air pollution

• Flame retardant furnishings

Install a HEPA filter in your HVAC system and upgrade your furnace filters

Beware of Toxic Dust

Be sure to change the A/C filter every three months, or earlier if dirty, and have your furnace and air conditioning ductwork and chimney cleaned regularly

Indoor air pollution is thought to be one of the greatest hazards. According to WHO, 92 percent of the world’s population is breathing polluted air,4 and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has warned that poor indoor air quality is one of the top public health risks. In fact, studies demonstrate that indoor pollution levels may be two to five times higher than outdoor levels,5 and poor air quality can cause serious damage to your lungs, heart and other organ systems. The materials found in your home are often a significant contributor to poor indoor air quality. Flame retardant chemicals, for example, commonly found in furniture and carpeting, do not remain inertly bonded within the foam or fabric. They escape in the form of dust. One study6 found every dust sample collected from American homes contained Tris phosphate (TDCIPP) and triphenyl phosphate (TPHP); 91 percent of urine samples from the residents also contained metabolites of TDCIPP, and 83 percent had metabolites of TPHP. Other tests have also shown that 90 percent of Americans have flame-retardant chemicals in their bodies, and many have six or more types in their system.7

22

Use a high-quality air purifier and keep it running 24/7 Avoid keeping air purifiers on the floor to avoid stirring up dust. Ionizing air purifiers generate negative ions that attract and trap dust and allergens. Just make sure your system is suitable for the size of your space. Using toopowerful a system for a small space can lead to excessive ozone buildup, which may do more harm than good. Ozone levels up to 0.05 ppm are safe, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.10 When it comes to air purifiers, as long as they limit ozone levels in your home to between 0.02 and 0.04 ppm, they offer great health benefits, without any the negative effects. Avoid as many household chemicals as possible For example, ditch carpet fresheners, air fresheners and chemical cleaning supplies, and replace them with nontoxic versions. Many cleaning products can be replaced with baking soda, vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, water and mild soap. For a fresh scent, use a high-quality essential oil, which can be used in a diffuser or added to your cleaning solution.

June / July 2017

Add live plants Studies have demonstrated that plants can improve your indoor air quality,11 removing pollutants by absorbing them through their leaves and roots. Most leafy plants are adept at removing some pollution from your indoor air, but some are better at removing volatile organic compounds (VOCs).12

point of entry into your home and the point of use. This means installing filters where water enters your home and again at your kitchen sink and showers. A wholehouse water filter will last you about three years, costing you roughly $1 per day — a worthwhile investment, all things considered.

Among the most beneficial houseplants, based on their ability to clean air and remove VOCs, are jade plant, spider plant, scarlet start, Caribbean tree cactus, dracaena, ferns, peace lily, English ivy, ficus, snake plant, philodendron and bamboo palm13,14

If your water is from a municipal source, it may even affect your indoor air quality, courtesy of evaporating chlorine from toilets, showers, baths, dishwashers and washing machines.

Consider taking a vitamin B complex Recent research suggests B vitamins can help protect against air pollution.15,16,17 At high doses, B vitamins were actually able to “completely offset” damage incurred by fine particulate matter. In this study, participants received a daily supplement of 2.5 milligrams (mg) of folic acid (B9), 50 mg of vitamin B6 and 1 mg of B12 for four weeks. At these high levels, the vitamins reduced genetic damage by as much as 76 percent, and protected mitochondrial DNA from the harmful effects of very fine particulate matter Water Filtration Is Necessary in Most Homes Drinking water contamination is also widespread, both among those with community water and private wells,18 and aging water pipes add to the toxic exposure.19 The list of potential water contaminants is long, ranging from agricultural chemicals like nitrates — runoff from factory farms — and drugs, to fluoride, arsenic,20,21 mercury, lead,22 PFCs (firefighting foam is a major source) and perchlorate (an ingredient in rocket fuel).23 The chemicals used in water treatment, such as chlorine and chloramine, also create highly toxic disinfection byproducts (DBPs). Chemicals from perfume, cologne, lotions, sunscreens and medicated creams24 also add to the contamination problem, and old worn-out pipes deposit lead, copper and harmful bacteria into many people’s homes. Since most water sources are severely contaminated, filtering water prior to use is more of a necessity than a luxury these days. If you have well water, it is prudent to have it tested for contaminants. You can get local drinking water quality reports for public water supplies from the EPA.25 Ideally, your best bet is to filter the water at both the

Infinity

Evaporated chlorine forms chloroform gas and chlorine vapors that may increase your risk of asthma, airway inflammation and respiratory allergies. Open your windows for five to 10 minutes each day to help remove these gasses and improve your indoor air quality. One of the best water filters I’ve found so far is the Pure & Clear Whole House Water Filtration System, which uses a three-stage filtration process — a micron sediment pre-filter, a KDF water filter and a high-grade carbon water filter26 — to filter out chlorine, detergent byproducts and other contaminants. Are Your Lawn and Garden Toxic? Seventy-eight million American households rely on commercial pesticides for their home and garden,27 and homeowners use 10 times more chemicals per acre than farmers do.28 Ninety million pounds of herbicides alone are being applied to private lawns and gardens each year. Roundup — the toxic effects of which are now becoming more widely known — is still one of the most widely used herbicides. However, there are several others that are just as bad, including 2,4-D, found in many “weed and feed” formulas. As reported by KCET:29 “While farm use accounts for the majority of the poundage of 2,4-D used in the U.S., it’s in home lawns and gardens that the herbicide is applied most heavily … In several studies, 2,4-D was the most common herbicide found in suburban areas, and other studies have detected the herbicide in two-thirds of interior air samples taken from households … On its own, 2,4-D exposure has been linked … to … cancers, genetic damage, hormonal and immune system dysfunctions, and the usual range of pesticide-related irritations of skin, eyes and lungs. (Continued on pg. 22)

23

(Continued from pg. 21) The National Institute on Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) lists several formulations of 2,4-D as known mutagens … [A]cute exposure to 2,4-D causes neurological problems, raising concerns that low-level, chronic exposure may do likewise.” Like glyphosate (the active ingredient in Roundup), 2,4-D has been classified as a possible human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, a division of WHO, primarily due to its ability to cause genetic damage. In animals, the herbicide has been linked to low sperm count, male reproductive damage, reduced litter size and cancer. Rather than struggling to maintain a pristine lawn and placing the health of your family and pets at risk with toxic garden chemicals, consider transitioning over to edible landscaping and organic gardening. If you’re planting trees for shade, there are many fruit and nut trees30 that can do the job, serving double duty by producing food as well. For suggestions, see Help Yourself! website at commongreen.weebly.com.31 While you’re at it, you can be an environmental steward by creating an oasis for pollinators. The Honeybee Conservancy has helpful guidance on creating a beefriendly garden.32 Weed Out the Flame Retardants The fourth major household source of toxic exposures are flame retardants, which can be found in all sorts of household goods and furnishings. The most comprehensive recommendation is to opt for organic or “green” alternatives no matter what product is under consideration, be it carpeting, furniture, drapes or mattresses. Since most mattresses are treated with flame retardant chemicals and you spend one-third of your life sleeping, your bedroom can be a significant source of toxic exposure. I recommend looking for a mattress made of either 100 percent organic wool, which is naturally flame-resistant, 100 percent organic cotton or flannel or Kevlar fibers (Stearns and Foster is one brand that sells this type of mattress). There are a number of good options on the market. Other pieces of furniture filled with cotton, wool or polyester will also be safer than chemical-treated foam; some products also state that they are “flame-retardant free.” Be particularly cautious with polyurethane foam products

24

manufactured prior to 2005, as they’re likely to contain now-banned polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE). Carefully inspect such items and replace ripped covers and/or any foam that appears to be breaking down. Also, avoid reupholstering furniture by yourself as the reupholstering process increases your risk of exposure. Older carpet padding is another major source of PBDEs, so take precautions when removing old carpet. You’ll want to isolate your work area from the rest of your house to avoid spreading it around, and use a HEPA filter vacuum to clean up. If in doubt, you can have a sample of your polyurethane foam cushions tested for free by scientists at Duke University’s Superfund Research Center.33 This is particularly useful for items you already have around your home, as it will help you determine which harmful products need replacing. Lowering Your Toxic Burden Begins at Home Most of us are exposed to toxic chemicals no matter where we live these days, and many of these environmental exposures we have no control over. Your home, however, is one exception. Here, you actually have a great deal of control — far more so than outdoors, in public spaces and at work. Considering about half your life or more is spent at home, addressing toxic exposures here can go a long way toward reducing your toxic burden, thereby reducing your risk of cancer and other chronic disease. Granted, I’ve not covered all possible sources in this short article. Entire books could be written on that. But by addressing your air quality, water quality, lawn and garden care and your furnishings, you’ve covered significant ground.

About the Author: Dr. Mercola finished his family practice residency in 1985 but was trained by the conventional model. In his first years of private practice, he treated many symptoms with prescription drugs and was actually a paid speaker for the drug companies. But as he began to experience the failures of this model in his practice, he embraced natural medicine and has had an opportunity over the last thirty years to apply these time tested approaches successfully with thousands of patients in his clinic. Over 15 years ago he founded Mercola.com to share his experiences with others. The site is the most visited natural health site in the world for the last seven years with nearly two million subscribers. He’s also written two NY Times bestselling books, and has had frequent

Here and Now by Wayne Holmes Quite often the essential things are overlooked. We take our breath for granted, but without it we would die. We don’t have to practice breathing any more than we have to practice existing. We take both for granted, but we cannot have one without the other. There is no absolute way of knowing certain things. Will the sun come out tomorrow? Will the moon continue to circle the earth? We take these things for granted, however, because they have never failed us in the past.

It wasn’t until I donned a clerical collar that I came to understand how people viewed religious leaders differently. Some were comforted by my presence while others seemed ill at ease. “Before long I realized that many had been damaged through judgment, guilt, rejection, and condemnation by a religion or by someone religious. I’m happy to report that these people do not have to languish in fear, depression, or resentment. “In Every Path Leads Home, Wayne Holmes has created a brilliant and very gentle way out of religious abuse and intolerance into peace, happiness, and personal freedom. “It is a way to heal us all. –Rev. Mr. Holmes’ words resonate way beyond the printed page—they vibrate within your heart as truth. I absolutely LOVE this book! It is the best bridge I have seen joining traditional religion, spirituality, and the spiritual nature of us all. “The integrity of the author in revealing his own story is authentic, reminding me of the humanness of all of our experiences. I felt wrapped in the arms of loving kindness throughout the whole book. I predict this book will enlighten all who read it.

Wayne Holmes’ Every Path Leads Home is a beautiful book of acceptance. Our lives on this plane of existence are of short duration, and we are all “headed home. Different faith experiences define “home differently, and each suggests a path or paths. For anyone who has been abused by the supposed rules and strictures of a church or congregation or pastor, for anyone who has come to see religion not as a faith experience but rather as a set of ironclad rules, for anyone who has grown weary of the struggle to find God by whatever name: Every Path Leads Home is a must-read.

Every Path Leads Home:

Many people treat their spiritual journey the same way — taking it for granted that they will have a future time to think about things spiritual and other-worldly. We don’t know for certain that our behavior in this life will influence the next life, but most religions seem to think that it will. For some, however, the question isn’t whether our behavior influences the afterlife, but how it affects our present life. Could we be happier and more fulfilled in this life if we were to pay attention to our spiritual journey even if we don’t know for certain that it will continue after we die? Living a better, more fulfilled life is a strong argument for religion and spirituality and to be the best that we can be — here and now. And, if it has positive benefits in a world to come, then that’s a wonderful bonus.

Wayne Holmes’ Set Your Course shares six months of reflections that will give readers a path to spiritual freedom and help them connect to their soul and inner spirit. Not only does it provide healing from past religious abuse, but also abuse of nearly any form, and beyond that, it provides a path towards taking solid control of one’s religious and spiritual journey.

Messages from the Stars June - July 2017 It is always good to start off with what you can see with the naked eye. Some of the astronomical events these next two months include Venus being visible in the eastern sky just before dawn on June 3rd and the best visibility of Saturn on June 15th. The ringed planet Saturn will be at its closest approach to Earth at this time. It will be brighter than any other time of the year and visible all night long though it would take a small telescope to see the rings and some of its brighter moons. June 21st ( Summer Solstice) will be the First Day of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere occurring at 04:24 UTC. Gemini (May 21st - June 20) Through improved prospects for love this month there will be opportunities to form love relationships; though volatility will make your love life either chaotic or exciting , either one could be intriguing. By traveling you could even be drawn to learning a foreign language. Time to review and plan for business changes to be put into action in the future. Increased communications could bring strength and harmony in the family environment. Keep it slow in the career area it is not a favorable time to make big decisions here. Improve your communication skills; writing, teaching or journalism are all favored. Cancer (June 21st - July 22) A bit of introspection time this month evaluating

your recent life activities will allow you an opportunity to adjust or fine tune your basic Cancer traits. Abundance and prosperity vibes are yours during this month. You could see some unexpected money come your way. You will desire to spend on Venus things to improve your looks and personal charms. Emotional interests and domestic issues will be heavy this period. Time to balance family and career concerns. You may be fighting for survival professionally; it is good time to build new business associations. Visualize what you wish to see in your future. Leo (July 23 - August 22) Support in your Profession could be supplied through business associations now. Watch for opportunities to better your finances; you are very intuitive in regards to financial investing. Relationship energy is weak, Leos should move slow in relationships these two months. Time to get out and socialize and network; social contacts can be a benefit to your career. Children may become or are perceived to become a serious responsibility at this time, even though Leos love children. You may find yourself concerned with family issues. You might want to rest up for the eclipses in your sign in August. Virgo (August 22 - September 22) Virgo natives’ prime focus is career and business for June and July. Move slowly and steadily toward your business goals; this planning and persistence is building energy to bringing success your way. Socializing can bring new contacts and influential

27

Capricorn (December 22 - January 19) people that will benefit your career. This may put domestic issues on the back burner for a bit. New love is not easy to find for single Virgos this month. Would be wise to pay particular attention to your health as in healthy eating, exercise and getting enough sleep and time out in nature to recharge. This time is characterized by slow and steady. Libra (September 23 - October 22 ) Career issues are more pressing than your domestic scene this month Libras. Venus your ruler could bring a fun social scene and a desire for long distance travel. Anything foreign; travel, travelers , foreign language, movies and foreign fashions will intrigue you at this time. Libra is the sign of the scales and it is important to in the end create a balance between your career and domestic areas for harmony in both. To keep up with both you must take seriously the balance in your health ; getting sufficient sleep, exercise and healthy food to keep everything in your life going forward. Scorpio (October 23 - November 21) This will be quite an ambitious month for Scorpio. Time to reduce all the unnecessary items that have outlived their usefulness. Pass them on, make room for new energy in your life. This goes for the physical body as well - detox? Lose those extra pounds? Make a serious effort . If you do you will be ready for new things in your life. As usual higher education, mysticism, and foreign travel will have your interest at this time. Very real possibility of finding new love overseas for single Scorpios in either an academic or spiritual surrounding. Not a favorable time to invest in a new house or renovations. Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21) Collaboration is important for you Sagittarius, it is not time to go it alone or be taking risks in career moves. Your doubts could be your worst enemy now. Networking at social events could bring you together with a variety of people; intellectuals, foreigners, artists that could be helpful. Romantic feelings may be shook-up at this time and come with a measure of bizarre Uranian unpredictability. You will be looking for new ways to show your love in the relationship. It would benefit you and your love to take a relaxing little trip at the end of July. Standing up for the underdog could be your thing this month.

28

Romance could appear in the most unlikely times and places Capricorn so be ready. Sufficient sleep, healthy eating will contribute to being emotionally and mentally fit to rise to all challenges this June and July. Investments will need patience at this time to get the best yields; no risky moves! Business will require you alone calling the shots at the beginning of this period. But by mid June it will take collaboration with partners to take you forward. Siblings and neighbors could be a source of disagree -ments . Again patience! Opportunities to travel will show themselves during the month of June. Aquarius (January 19 - February 18) Excitement in your business dealing this month will show up as energies lining up to deliver whatever you have been planning and working toward. Love may be found at any place people are having fun ...sports activities, entertainment venues of all kinds and parties! So get out there you single Aquarians and find some romance! Relationships could take off and get serious real fast; this could actually be “the one!” As much fun as finding romance is this is a time for conservative and cautious investing or spending. A particularly great time to host parties as well and meet new people . Pisces (February 19 - March 20) Money could be made Pisces, by helping other people get rich! Jupiter in other people’s money sector can bring tax refunds, inheritances, royalties, insurance payouts or your spouse’s finances. Imaginative Arts and music Pisces will know what to do with all the extra fine imagination made available to them this June and July. If your career involves creativity you will be in clover. Health requires a bit of looking after at this time. No staying up all night painting or composing, you need your sleep as well as getting regular exercise and time spent in nature to recharge. Aries (March 21 - April 19th) Family matters will dominate June and July for Aries natives. Indeed it will require harmonizing both domestic and professional objectives to make things run smoothly. Love relationships can be complex at this time. Your mate’s feelings may be more delicate than usual. Jupiter’s energies make marriage commitment a possibility. You may find

expanding your knowledge base with travel both domestic and overseas is highlighted. Promotion on the job is possible or a degree of increased success if you are an entrepreneur. Could be a major transformation in your career in July having to do with children.

with an Astrology Report by Laura Conner

Taurus (April 20 - May 20) Great time for communications and academic studies that could provide new work skills. Earnings may be improved in some way through friends influence. This could be a great period to re- evaluate things like your cash flow, income and earning power. You find you are particularly attractive to the opposite sex at this time; so get out and develop some new relationships if you are a single Taurus. Love can be found in places of entertainment or friends parties and social gatherings. You must learn to come to terms with other peoples values, especially of a spouse. This is one of the transformations required now.
