SAY CHARDON-HEY AT THIS MEDITERRANEAN-STYLE VENUE

Bar Leo is Sorrento’s neighbourhood gem.

You know the saying, when the time is right, it will find you? Well, you must be ripe for some sleek Mediterranean-style dining because, evidently, your time is now! Bar Leo Food & Wine has been quietly thriving under your radar, so we’re glad we finally get to make your acquaintance. Welcome to your new neighbourhood rendezvous.

Bar Leo is the thrumming heart of Sorrento, a local frequent and a top recommendation for visitors. You can hear the hum of patron chatter as you pass by. The warm ambience allures as you gaze from afar, making you wish you, too, had made a reservation. Not to worry! You can make a reservation right now!

Picture this, it’s 4pm on a Friday afternoon, the week is done and happy hour has begun. There’s a light summer-esque dew in the air, so you opt for the Balmy Nights ‘Fizz’ Petillant Natural on recommendation from the waiter, “It’s a perfect wine for these humid days”.

The refined wine list and seafood-inspired share plates, small and large, leave you with that wonderful conundrum; what to try first? Then, your dining buddy chimes in, “I think this is going to be our new local”. You nod in agreeance and take a heavenly sip of the Vermentino & Grenache blend (recommendation approved) chilled red, you have all the time to try everything on the menu more than once. You’re on cloud wine.

Bar Leo is every bit as fantastic as this musing. The venue has a contemporary feel, with Mediterranean details that make you feel like you’re on a Santorini sojourn.

It’s no surprise patrons want to linger a bit longer when visiting.

The seafood is fresh and delicious and the wine list is impressive. And don’t get us started on the hospitality. There are many reasons locals keep coming back, but their

stellar personalised service is one of them.

Let us entice you with a few menu standouts. The menu is partitioned into three sections; ‘snacks’, ‘small plates & share plates’ and ‘vegetables and salads’.

Shared eats would have to be one of life’s most simple pleasures. For the love of all things gluten, we must put forth the Snack Plate Focaccia with rosemary, sea salt & EVOO. Our next snack plate proposal is the Half Shell Scallop, cauliflower puree with chorizo crumb

It would be a sin not to endorse the cooked-to-perfection, Market Fresh Fish, lemon & olive oil from the small plates & share plates section.

What can we tell you? Simplicity slays. And excuse us, but a Black Angus Sirloin, soubise, sauce bordelaise & fried kale? Tell the waiter we’ll take two with the Fried Brussel Sprouts, pancetta, honey & hazelnuts. While at it, we’ll take some Shoestring Fries with rosemary, sea salt and garlic confit aioli.

Bar Leo is perfect for the whole family, with a children’s playground and lawn only a few steps away.

Considering the venue is owned by a local family and operated by industry veterans, we can’t say we’re surprised that this venue ticks all the boxes.

NEIGHBOURHOOD SEAFOOD & WINE. BEAUTIFUL INGREDIENTS, COOKED SIMPLY.

Fresh locally sourced seafood and in season produce is cooked and served in a modern Mediterranean style using only the highest quality ingredients.

Our food is designed to be shared and enjoyed with a perfectly matched glass of wine. Dine out in our alfresco area under the Sorrento sun, relax inside for a more comfortable dining experience or sit at one of the bars –the choice is yours.

You’ll be on cloud wine!

DIP, DUNK AND DETOX

Turn up the wellness at Vikasati Bathhouse.

Raise your hand if you need some serious R & R. Well, buckle up (or rather, unbuckle!) because the GC has just welcomed Vikasati Bathhouse, a stellar new wellness sanctuary for the mind, body and soul. You may have had 99 problems, but you can soak 98 of them away in their hot magnesium baths.

If the words unwind, recover, and rejuvenate stir something deep inside, rest assured, that feeling finds its blissful resolution at Vikasati Bathhouse. Co-founded by leading wellness entrepreneurs and ice bath experts Will Stodulka and Ben Murphy, this spot was made to dial your stress down to zero and your health to a hundred. In a nutshell, it’s an all-encompassing recovery

experience for the mind and body. However, simply calling it a ‘recovery centre’ is like calling Pink just a ‘singer’—a massive understatement.

The modern wellbeing sanctuary feels like a mini escape within the busy Southport surroundings. Dedicated to those who appreciate fresh air and sunshine, the outdoor bathhouse is decked out with stateof-the-art equipment and facilities. It’s as flawless as it is functional. With the OG well established in Red Hill, Brisbane, Vikasati is hoping to replicate its resounding success at its second location in Southport.

If you’ve had the pleasure of visiting Vikasati’s Brisbane location, you would know their hot and cold plunge pools and ice baths are legit. However, they’re bringing even more to Southport. Drum roll, please! Vikasati Southport is home to one of Australia’s largest saunas! They’re committed to providing the ideal space for recovery and community connection on the Gold Coast. Alongside the sauna you’ll find stand-up ice baths (set to 5 degrees), a Finnish rock sauna (you’ll know where to find us) and hot and cold magnesium baths.

Vikasati’s holistic approach is centred around what is known as thermal contrast therapies, where you alternate between hot and cold temperatures. The benefits are both physical and mental and include reduced stress, inflammation and muscle/joint discomfort. It also improves thermoregulation, circulation, immunity, control over your nervous system and detoxification. Sign us up immediately.

Don’t let the ‘fancy-pants’ facilities fool you, Vikasati offers visitors a judgement-free and welcoming environment. In fact, every element within the bathhouse was designed to not only enhance physical recovery but also encourages connection and conversation. However, don’t stress introverts, there is ample space and opportunity for those seeking a mental pause. Vikasati’s layout is also super relaxed. You’re free to move around the bathhouse without restriction, choosing your own wellness adventure. Or you can access expert guidance from the staff.

In an aim to share their passion and success using ice baths and saunas for the past ten years, Will and Ben have created a structure that allows members and the local community to make the practices a part of their weekly routine without breaking the bank. So, what do you say – ready to dive in?

GIDDY UP

FOR NIGHT RACING

Saddle up for Silks Under the Stars at the Gold Coast Turf Club.

If you’ve been dreaming of experiencing the thrill of live racing beneath the twinkling night sky, your dreams are about to gallop into reality. The Gold Coast Turf Club is kicking off the Summer Racing Carnival with its first-ever Silks Under The Stars night racing event on Friday, December 20.

It’s the dawn of a new era for the club following their massive $73 million Tracks, Tunnel, and Lights redevelopment. The lights are on, and the excitement is high!

To mark this epic occasion, free general admission is up for grabs, so you really have

no excuse to miss it. The glittering night kicks off a racing extravaganza that brings together high-speed thrills, entertainment, and a jawdropping light show to illuminate the track.

Picture it now: the city’s finest horses thundering down the straight, shadows cast by the brand-new state-of-the-art lighting system – pure magic under the stars.

Gold Coast Turf Club CEO Steve Lines is understandably excited, calling it a new chapter for the club. He explained that the lighting installation is the result of over a decade of hard work, marking a new era for the club as it aims to become Queensland’s second Metropolitan Club.

“It’s going to be a historic night, and we’re expecting a massive crowd to celebrate the occasion,” Lines said.

The Silks Under the Stars event represents much more than just a one-off racing night – it’s the start of something special. Gold Coast night racing has long been a dream, and it’s finally being realized with a series of successful lighting tests, including a twilight race on October 5.

According to Lines, the night racing setup opens new doors for tourism and puts Gold

Coast racing on the map, both interstate and internationally. Talk about setting the scene for a global stage!

Feeling a little extra? For those looking to turn this special evening into a VIP experience, the Christmas Festive Feast offers an indulgent way to enjoy the night.

For $200 per person, you can revel in the excitement from the comfort of the Event Centre, enjoying a gourmet meal and all the luxuries that come with it. With limited corporate hospitality packages available, this is the chance to elevate your evening and soak up the event in true style.

The Silks Under the Stars is only the beginning of the new Summer Carnival. As part of the Turf Club’s biggest racing festival ever, the fun continues into January with a second Night Racing event on Friday, January 24, just ahead of the Australia Day long weekend.

This thrilling two-part series sets a new benchmark for the Gold Coast’s racing culture and gives locals and visitors alike even more reason to celebrate this summer.

So, dust off your finest race-day outfit, gather your mates, and get ready to experience racing like never before!

Whether you’re trackside for free or indulging in the corporate feast, Silks Under the Stars promises to be a race night that’ll shine bright in Gold Coast history.

Be there as the lights go on, and Gold Coast racing enters a dazzling new chapter!

YOUR SUMMER WINE LINE-UP

Three summer wine picks from Wine Simple’s Matt Chalmers.

Summer weather is here and we’re ready to enjoy the sunshine with a glass of wine in hand. Who better to guide us through some top-notch summer sips than Matt Chalmers, founder of Wine Simple and all-around wine connoisseur?

Matt shared three of his top Australianmade wine picks for long, lazy summer afternoons. Whether you’re picnicking on Burleigh Hill or enjoying a seafood feast on your balcony, these wines will elevate your experience. Let’s uncork!

WINE: TORZI MATTHEWS FROST

DODGER RIESLING 2023

EDEN VALLEY – $24

The Torzi Matthews Frost Dodger Riesling 2023 is perfect for warm summer days. Grown in the high-altitude Eden Valley, this Riesling brims with freshness. Expect lively aromas of lemon blossom and white peach. The pristine acidity balances beautifully with its juicy citrus core, creating a mouth-watering sensation with every sip.

On the palate, notes of green apple and lime unfold alongside a refreshing crisp mineral-driven finish.

Spend the arvo at Burleigh Hill, grab some fish and chips, a bottle of this Riesling, find a spot on the grass and I guarantee there is no better spot to watch the waves roll in before the sky turns gold as the sun sets on yet another glorious day. This Riesling is a must-bring for your next summer evening at your favourite spot.

PURPLE HANDS 2024 COLOURS OF THE SOUTH PINOT GRIS

ADELAIDE HILLS – $30

Nothing embodies summer like a cool, crisp Pinot Gris, and Purple Hands’ 2024 Colours of the South does it brilliantly. Vibrant as the season, it offers a refreshing escape with its delicate, fruit-forward profile. The palate delivers purity, with juicy citrus and stone fruit notes, and a touch of minerality that adds depth without any heaviness. Its summer

For a truly relaxed Queensland experience, take this Pinot Gris down to Talle Creek. Whether cooling off in the calm

waters or lounging on the sandy banks, pair it with a fresh prawn and mango salad. Perfect for a laid-back day.

WINE: TILLIE J CHARDONNAY 2022

YARRA VALLEY – $50

Tillie J Chardonnay 2022 exudes sophistication. Sourced from the Yarra Valley, this Chardonnay showcases balance, elegance, and complexity. From the first sip, layers of ripe stone fruit – peach and nectarine – intertwined with subtle citrus zest and a hint of vanilla bean. A touch of oak adds depth and creaminess without overpowering the wine’s natural brightness.

On the palate, the wine’s velvety mouthfeel transitions beautifully from tropical fruits to a delicate nuttiness and minerality. Its balanced acidity offers a refreshing finish that lingers. This is a wine that speaks of refined craftsmanship.

Picture yourself on a warm evening, enjoying the cool breeze on your balcony, overlooking the GC skyline. Pair it with grilled Queensland lobster or a creamy truffle pasta to elevate its rich complexity. Whether entertaining guests or savouring a quiet night, Tillie J Chardonnay brings luxury to any occasion.

THE DOUGH-MAIN OF EUROPEAN EATS IS HERE!

FARINA & Co will surpass(ta) your expectations!

Hold onto your fedoras Gold Coast, because FARINA & Co has landed! This ultimate triple threat of a venue – a bakery, café, AND pasta bar opened its doors in July and it’s already the toast of the town. Bringing a whole lotta European flair to the Alcove retail community in Southport – which FYI, is described as “the pick for customers who value the boutique over the en-masse” –FARINA is right at home.

Translating to ‘flour’ in Italian, walking into FARINA & Co feels like stepping into a chic European bistro. Long tables beckon you to gather your amici for that quintessential Euro dining experience, while smaller tables are perfect for those intimate occasions when

you’re looking for a cozy coffee or a romantic pasta date to woo. And woo you shall.

Greeted with a light but inviting atmosphere that’s as welcoming as Nonna’s hug, but with a modern and very now twist, doughn’t delay – just go. Think elegance meets contemporary chic with sophisticated marble benchtops, jawdropping chandeliers, and oh-so-mod pendant lights which we need in our abode. Like now.

Given FARINA & Co is the brainchild of Sofia’s and Luna’s owner Henry Hunt we would expect nothing less. The warm and inviting floorboards paired with Euro-chic tiling create the perfect backdrop for your Insta snaps, and let’s take a moment to appreciate the open kitchen where you can watch the chefs ‘chef’ before your very eyes.

Speaking of, FARINA & Co’s pastry chef is up at sparrow’s baking phenomenal handmade pastries and goodies daily and whilst this totally scratches an itch, we’re equally here for the pasta. Handcrafted with love, you can even pick up a little somethin’ somethin’ to impress your dinner guests #ssssh.

Alright, let’s eat. We’re starting with the treats cabinet which is overflowing with

mouthwatering munchies. Our pick is Farina’s Choc Chip Cookie, their signature buttery bite, with double chocolate chip and walnuts. Served warm, it’s equal parts gooey and crunchy.

For an AM ambrosia to start your day right, we recommend the Pumpkin Frittata with roasted butternut pumpkin, caramelised shallots, eggs, goats cheese, and sage. Pair it with your coffee of choice made with Allpress A.R.T roast, the Cavalli of caffeine, which will forever taint the way you look at your humble home pod machine.

We also rate the Rose Pink Latte which we suggest you order on a Wednesday coz #OnWednesdaysWeDrinkPink, and if you’re there after 10am, why not trade your flat white for a fizzy white (champagne), glass of wine, or a cocktail (Editor’s note: try the Classic Negroni).

If you’re passionate about pasta, you’re spoilt for choice here, but our vote goes to the Spaghetti Aglio E Olio with house-made spaghetti, olive oil, garlic, chili, crushed tomatoes and parsley, or the Moreton Bay Bug Linguine with house-made fettucine, pan-kissed tomatoes, garlic, white wine, Moreton Bay bug and cerval

Focaccia fans, look no further than the Mortadella, toasted with stracciatella, pistachio mortadella, green olives, mustard and honey dressing, served with a side of rocket salad. And coz you can, grab a side of Shoestring Fries tossed in oregano and salt. Bellissima!

So, whether you’re craving a cappuccino, a croissant, or a carb-fest in the form of an authentic pasta, FARINA & Co. is your dough-to destination.

CONFIDENCE IN EVERY STITCH

Find

your unique style at Circa Collective.

If you’ve strolled through Chevron Renaissance lately, you may have noticed Circa Collective – a boutique for those who crave unique and versatile fashion. Circa Collective first opened as a one-month popup, but thanks to rave reviews and a strong following it’s now a permanent resident. This homegrown brand is serving up a fresh, stylish edge – and honestly, we’re here for it.

Circa Collective is all about women. The real, fabulous women who juggle a million things and still want to look effortlessly chic. Founder Dora, a Gold Coast fashion veteran with over 30 years of experience (yep, she’s been around the style block), saw an opportunity to create something

special for the women of the Gold Coast. After designing handbags in Sydney and working across sales, buying, and production, Dora decided to bring her talents back home. Her vision for Circa Collective? Stylish, timeless pieces that celebrate the individuality of every woman who wears them.

Circa Collective is fashion that fits your life (literally and figuratively). Dora knows that real women – busy, active, always on the go – need clothes that look great and feel even better. No more squeezing into something uncomfortable just for the ‘gram! At Circa, you’ll find pieces that are as chic as they are comfy. Whether you’re running errands or sipping cocktails by the pool, these collections are designed to help you live your best life in style.

Let’s face it – middle age and menopause come with their fair share of challenges, but style shouldn’t be one of them. Dora noticed that many fashion labels don’t cater to the unique needs of women in their 50s, 60s, and beyond. So, she created Circa Collective to fill that gap. With designs that flatter changing silhouettes, lightweight fabrics that breathe, and cuts that are as chic as they are

comfy, the brand is redefining what it means to dress with confidence during this stage of life. These clothes are designed for real women, with real figures, and that’s reflected in the sizing, which ranges from sizes 8-16.

And let’s talk about the real magic – small production runs. That’s right, no massproduced, fast fashion here. Each collection is carefully curated with exclusive prints and colours, so you’re not going to rock up to brunch and find everyone else in the same dress. You’ll be the one getting all the “OMG, where did you get that?” comments which, LBH, is the ultimate fashion win.

Circa Collective is more than just a brand – it’s a love letter to the Gold Coast lifestyle. Every piece reflects the laid-back, vibrant vibe of the region, offering timeless styles that are as adaptable as the women who wear them. And it’s not just locals who are in love. Thanks to its prime spot at Chevron Renaissance, tourists from all over Australia and beyond are discovering Circa’s coastal chic.

Oh, and did we mention the staff? They’re not just retail assistants – they’re full-on stylists. So if you ever feel a little lost in the world of fashion (or maybe just life), pop in for a chat. They’ll help you find your new favourite look, and trust us, you’ll leave feeling like a million bucks.

Whether you’re stepping into a new phase of life or just looking for something stylish and comfy, Circa Collective is where style meets substance – because confidence never goes out of fashion!

PREPARE YOUR PALATE FOR BOTTOMLESS BRILLIANCE

Bazaar Marketplace is the foodie playground you never knew you needed.

Let’s be real, we all know Bazaar Marketplace at QT Gold Coast, but if it’s been a minute since you’ve indulged in this culinary playground, you’re in for a delicious reminder. This isn’t your typical buffet, Bazaar is a thirst quencher for the gastronomic explorer and culinary culture vulture. An interactive marketplace, where you get to watch chefs whip up fresh creations right in front of you, all while you customize your own dishes to suit your cravings. It’s the kind of dining experience where indulgence is not just encouraged – it’s required.

Open for breakfast, brunch and dinner, it’s similar to an amusement park, pay your entry fee and you’re free to discover and devour what’s on offer until your heart (or, in this case, stomach) is content. This place has always been top-tier, but they’ve dialled things up to an even higher level. Prepare to be blown away by what they’ve got cooking (literally).

Let’s start with the boujee brunch experience everyone’s raving about: Soul Sundays. Picture this: sunshine, your best mates and QT-curated Malfy Gin cocktails in hand. This Sunday brunch is no ordinary affair – it’s a feast of house-made pastries, fresh smoothies, juices, a live omelette station, and so much more.

If Instagram-worthy moments are your thing, you’re going to want to snap your way through this brunch experience. Plus, there’s a Director of Mixology on hand, ready to curate your perfect summer spritz. Talk about living la dolce vita!

Now, for dinner: it’s indulgence on a whole new level. Bazaar brings you a seafood spread that’ll make your heart (and stomach) sing. We’re talking about locally caught prawns,

freshly shucked oysters, and a full-baked salmon that you’ll find difficult to resist. Friday and Saturday nights also roll out the Japanese Robata Grill where you can choose your meats (hello, steak or succulent skewers) and watch the chef cook them right in front of you. It’s like having your very own private chef experience.

And don’t get us started on the premiumgrade food stations. The Bao Bun Station is loaded with fluffy buns begging to be filled with your fave ingredients. The Poke Bowl Station serves up fresh tuna and everything you need to create a colourful, delicious bowl.

Want pizza? No problem! Their Pizza Station has chefs at the ready to cook your dream slice with all your favourite toppings.

Oh, but we’re not done yet. There’s also the free-flowing soft serve ice cream. Yep, endless swirls of soft serve with all the toppings you could dream of – sprinkles, sauces, you name it. But if you’re after something a little more elevated, their in-house pastry team has your back with OTT desserts that are as extravagant as they are delectable.

Bazaar is truly a place where indulgence and interactive dining go hand-in-hand. The chefs aren’t just behind the scenes; they’re front and centre, preparing dishes to your exact liking. Whether you’re there for dinner or brunch, the experience is dynamic and tailored just for you.

So, whether it’s been a while since you last visited or if you’re a first-timer, Bazaar at QT Gold Coast is ready to serve you a dining experience like no other. Trust us – your tastebuds will thank you.

GO WILD Jungle King swings into Burleigh.

We never tire of tasty Thai street food that puts a modern spin on traditional flavours. Excitingly for our fellow Thai-enthusiasts, Jungle King brings the vibrant essence of Thailand to the Gold Coast in the form of flavour-filled dishes you’ll have to sample to believe.

Found within Treetops Plaza on Reedy Creek Road, Jungle King is the brainchild of Wasan Rotchiratthitikan whose work you might have sampled previously at Mixing Colour Salad Bar in Kingscliff.

The fitout was put together by local legends Space Cubed Design Studio, who were also behind the gorgeous interiors at Blowfish and Siblings. It’s giving dark jungle

vibes with hints of red and gold.

You can choose to sit inside where the action happens or outside on the sundrenched deck but either way, you’ll get to experience some taste-sensation dishes from a very extensive menu that will see you returning time and again.

The menu is the interweaving of fresh ingredients, aromatic herbs and bold spices to offer healthy salad bowls, exceptional curries and so much more. Start with entrees like Chicken Satay, Snapper and Prawn Cake (tried and tested – 10/10) and Fresh Rice Paper Rolls and then absolutely move onto the Street King section of the menu.

Here you’ll find smaller plates Gai Yang; BBQ chicken thigh marinated in lemongrass, black pepper, garlic, turmeric and coriander plus Sai Oua; spicy Thai sausages and Lemongrass Barramundi

There are Thai favourites like Kow Pad Gai; fried rice with chicken, Pad Se-Ew; rice noodles with your choice of protein and Tom Yum Goong; the classic hot and spicy sour soup you’ve probably tasted before but not like this (there are king prawns in this one).

All the Thai curries you have come to know and love are available on the menu including Jungle King’s signature dish, the Jungle Curry It’s packed with punchy flavours including a housemade jungle curry paste made with fresh Thai herbs, Thai eggplant, beans, young peppercorn, chilli and basil over Snapper fillets

The Special Menu is exactly that with dishes such as Larb Tuna; a spicy tuna tartare, Yum Sashimi, Triple Chilli Sticky Pork and Sweet Tamarine King Prawn

If a salad is more up your alley, you can build your own by choosing from a base of rice, mixed salad, angel hair or soba noodles

and then add your topping of choice. All of which are obviously excellent, healthy and very delicious.

No doubt all of that is something you would like to sample quick smart, as it should be. Head down to Jungle King Street Thai and Bowls and say a happy goodbye to everything you thought you knew about Thai food.

In fact, most of them are locally

CHIMI YOUR WAY TO FLAVOUR TOWN

El Chori, saucy side hustle turned sizzling success.

We’re not here to tell you how to grill your fare – we know you have that down to a fine art. However, we have a saucy discovery to share with you that will change your BBQ game forever. Hear us out. It’s chimichurri, but not how you know it. This one’s as authentic as it comes (direct from Argentinian bloodline), as full-flavoured as it gets and just like we love it, it’s locally owned and produced. Say hello to El Chori’s Chimichurri!

It’s not every day you catch us chimi chimi’ing over a condiment, but here we are. Behind our taste bud tango is El Chori – a local

artisan business dedicated to making batch fresh chimichurri sauce. Spoiler alert – their sauce slaps! Trust us, once you try their take on the Argentinian classic, there’s no going back! Like flying first class, only to return to economy – there’s no way. So, what puts the chimi in El Chori’s churi? We’re happy you asked.

From a saucy side hustle to a sizzling full-time gig, husband and wife duo Drew Quinnell and Florencia Petersen began their Chimichurri success story simply nursing a shared love for BBQ and chimichurri. Originally serving traditional Choripan, Charcoal Sausage Sandwiches with chimichurri sauce at the Manly Sydney markets as a side gig, they soon noticed a real appetite for the condiment among marketgoers. That’s when they decided to move back home to the Gold Coast and give their passion project a red hot shot.

El Chori’s Classic Green Chimichurri is a beautifully bright and tangy condiment that packs a fresh and zesty punch with parsley, garlic, olive oil, red or white wine vinegar and chilli. It goes well with almost anything but is traditionally enjoyed with grilled meats, chicken, seafood and veggies. It essentially

does all the work for you, adding an earthy, tangy flavour to perfectly balance the richness of meat or complement any dish.

El Chori takes the classic condiment to a new level, handcrafted with 100% natural ingredients and a stolen Argentinian family recipe (just kidding, shout out to Aunty Celina). You can’t get more authentic than that. It has a unique combination of traditional ingredients that only a true local could balance. It’s delicioso! Be warned, once you start incorporating their chimi into your dishes, you’ll find it hard to live without.

Depending on your fire tolerance, the Smoky Red Chimichurri comes in three heat levels to choose from: mild, medium and hot. The mild has a perfect balance of fresh and natural sweetness – suitable for all palates. The medium (and most popular) keeps all those flavours intact, adding an enjoyable spice kick. The hot, featuring chilli and jalapeno, brings a heatpacking punch and has everything you need to take your dish from bland to hot damn!

One year young and El Chori is stocked in over 80 carefully selected retailers from Byron to Noosa, online and at the local Burleigh and Palm Beach Markets every Saturday. They focus on supplying premium butcheries, independent grocers, delis and specialty stores while keeping the spirit of the Asado, fire, friends and food, alive. If you haven’t yet, it’s time to tuck in, amigos!

MEET LUCY AND MATT VAN DER RIET

Owners and designers of Vandy.

Meet Matt and Lucy van der Riet, the creators of Vandy, the vibrant and functional beach robe that dries, protects, and expresses your beach-loving self. We chatted with Lucy about their journey, from its innovative beginnings to its mission of making your beach days more enjoyable. They share their passion for the ocean, adventure, and their cosy, colorful robes that have become a beach day essential. How long have you been Gold Coast locals?

I spent most of my 20s on the GC. I went to Griffith Uni and lived in Tugun, which has changed SO much, before moving to Melbourne. In 2021 the family moved back, which was one of the best decisions of our lives. We moved to Tallebudgera and have loved living in the trees, but we’re now in Palm Beach closer to the beach, which we love. What do you love the most about the GC?

We equally love the lifestyle and the people. The beaches and environment are the perfect match for how we want to spend our days. And the heart and attitude of GC locals is just the best. It’s the most supportive, kind and inclusive community. We feel so lucky to have integrated our family, lives and business so seamlessly.

When we first moved I clearly recall us all notice how friendly people are here. Being outdoors so much is honestly the greatest gift we can give our kids. Tell us a little bit about yourselves.

Gosh, Matt and I met when he interviewed me for a job at NAB in Melbourne (got the job haha). We pretty quickly became inseparable and literally before we knew it had three kids and a dog. We both have a pretty similar attitude towards change and taking risks.

Life is short and you just do the thing you desire and if it doesn’t work out, that’s ok. For those that don’t know, what is Vandy?

Vandy is a beach lifestyle brand that makes robes. The idea came from the practical need to being able to cover up on the beach, dry yourself, protect your skin and look damn cool in the process. The beautiful unfolding of our robes is that they are multi-purpose so our kids’ ones are used for swimming lessons, beach or pool days and bath time. While our women’s robe, when not being used at the beach, is perfect for adding a bit of colour to your day at home. Speaking of colour, you’ll notice our robes are all pretty bold. We want our robes to inject a little extra fun into life.

Tell us about the process of creating your robes. The process of taking Vandy robes from idea to reality was easier said than done. The design of the robe was pretty seamless. Being a robe lover, I took all the favourite design features of robes I’ve owned over the years added a few unique touches and by third sample it was nailed. We ended up creating both a certified organic range and a 100% cotton non-organic range. Same design but two different price points. The material selection and dying of the organic material was time consuming as the organic cotton is dyed and then milled. Matt went over to China mid project to see first hand the process and meet our team and ensure the factory practice was aligned with our values. What has been the biggest opportunity and/or challenge so far?

We’ve had our fair share of challenges, like all start-ups, it’s a wild ride. We designed the robes ourselves, but they’re manufactured overseas in an ethical factory. Having many things out of our control like shipping delays etc can really unhinge plans.

We’ve had to constantly pivot and problem solve, which keeps things interesting. I really believe the obstacles we come up against contribute to how our brand evolves in the best way. While we launched as a beach robe, what we’ve been so thrilled to see is that our robes are actually multi-purpose and have become peoples go-to throw on for daily life. So cool! What’s next for Vandy?

You can expect to see our robes expand in styles, fabrics and colours, and we have a new Summer range of Terry Shorts, Tees and Bralettes coming.

What are your Gold Coast favourites?

CAFE: Wholefood Pantry, Palm Beach

RESTAURANT: Little Tommy’s, Currumbin

BAR: Out the front at Rick Shores

BEACH: The Alley Currumbin

How do you choose to spend your days off?

We are hanging at the beach, Matt and the kids surf, or we’re entertaining at home.

BREWS WITH A VIEW

Neptune Kiosk gets a sunny new look.

Call us shallow, but there’s something about a fave haunt sliding on back to the scene with a fresh new look that just makes you feel good. Doubly so, in the case of Tallebudgera Creek’s resident coffee slinger, Neptune Kiosk – unveiling its cheery new spruce up to go with the impeccable vibes Talle’s idyllic inlet dishes up daily.

Because if there’s one thing Gold Coasters can attest, when it comes to being creekside, ‘feeling good’ kinda comes with the territory.

Sandy-footed frequents milling around the Talle waterfront will have been delighted to stumble across the sight of a fresh-faced Neptune Kiosk, once again churning out the Marvell Street coffee, Hot Cinnamon Donuts and Toasted Croissants from its sunshine-y new facade.

Tucked beneath Neptune Royal Life Saving Club just footsteps from the foreshore, the stalwart hole-in-the-wall has chic new look and slightly larger footprint, in a triumphant return of the oh-so-convenient caffeine and treat fix creek-goers have grown rather fond of.

The ever-popular strip has been abuzz with a different type of commotion of late – courtesy of a hefty $3.4 million boardwalk renovation for the precinct. In a move strategically timed to coincide with the works, which also incude upgraded picnic facilities and amenities block, Neptune Kiosk opted to follow suit and temporarily shut up shop to undergo a (slightly less spendy) glow-up of its own.

Back and better than ever, the waterfront coffee window now greets us with an extra cheery façade – just in case the blessed sight of our friendly neighbourhood barista wasn’t

mood-lifting enough. Its welcoming exterior is now flanked by sunshine-y striped yellow awnings and nautical nods such as feature lights and a crisp, shiplap-clad exterior. It’s not all about the pretty stuff though, with functional improvements that expanded the space and added a dedicated pick up window… and when it comes to our coffee hit, we’re alllll about the efficiency.

For those trying to mind their caffeine intake (commiserations), there’s also squeezed to order Orange Juice and frosty, fresh fruit Smoothies to wrap your lips around. Creekside faves like Ice Creams and Milkshakes are also going strong here, with options like Nutella and Strawberry Jam which will no doubt be welcomed by the sandy groms – though we wouldn’t say no to a Salted Caramel for ourselves, just quietly.

If you’re feeling munchie after a solid creek sesh, swing by the cabinet to ogle the day’s curation of oozy, stuffed cookies, freshlybaked pastries and sweet treats. A selection, need we remind you, which is brought to you by the team behind beloved baked goods purveyors, Custard Canteen – so there are no wrong choices here!

Oh happy day, Gold Coasters – scrumptious creekside brews and chews are on the menu at this cute ‘lil coffee nook (as if Talle needed any more going for it…).

THE SPOT YOU KNEAD TO VISIT

The Bread Social rolls out a fresh new bakery.

If you’re a fan of mouth-wateringly good, cooked-with-love baked treats you will have absolutely sampled the goods from The Bread Social. With venues in Tweed Heads, Byron Bay, Currumbin and Isle of Capri, plus a number of stockists between Yamba and the Gold Coast, it’s the kind of place that simply makes life better via comfort food you’d travel anywhere to taste again.

We Gold Coasters can once again count our lucky stars because The Bread Social boys have rolled out their brand new destination HQ in Currumbin. Just over a year ago, we brought you the news that the team had begun slinging all the good stuff from a takeaway kiosk in Currumbin, with bigger plans in the pipeline.

Those bigger plans have officially landed, so it’s time to rejoice. Mates Sam Saulwick, Tom Scott and Paul Giddings have been baking out of The Farm in Byron Bay for the past eight years but recently moved the entire operation to a huge new space on Queensbury Ave. They’ve created a space that showcases their talents and involves the customer in all aspects of sourdough bread and pastry production.

The new bakery slash cafe slash production centre is exactly what you’d expect from the talented trio; a cosy, industrial-style fitout complete with glossy tiles, wooden barn doors and plenty of seating space both inside and out.

The very best part though is that you can see the master craftsmen at work in several sections of the space. Windows within the cafe allow you to watch the bakers rolling out countless loaves of sourdough while behind the coffee bar you can see pastry chefs making absolute magic with golden, buttery goodness.

The reason for this is that The Bread Social team wanted to create an opportunity for us to see exactly what goes on at a working bakery with full transparency, allowing for open (and

no doubt interesting) conversations between them and their beloved customers.

Speaking of things you’ll see and sample, there are many and they will all change your baked-goods-loving life! Starting with crispy, Three Cheese and Vegemite scrolls, sourdough jam doughnuts, extra large Custard Tarts, Baked Cheesecakes, cookies, Lemon Meringue tarts, Schiacciata (flatbread with tasty toppings), croissants and a new addition to the lineup –freshly made sandwiches

Of course, there is also the aforementioned sourdough, which you can see being rolled before your very eyes. It’s not just any sourdough though, it’s the organic kind made with Australian ingredients that are sourced as locally as possible.

The team is passionate about, and very good at, coffee too so you can sip on a smooth, delicious cuppa while you eat copious treats or grab everything to go and eat in peace in your car (you won’t make it home).

Soon the team will be rolling out breadmaking and cake decorating classes to name just a few so you can learn from the very best. This is music to our sourdough-loving ears. Like 95% of the population, we dabbled in the pandemic trend, and like 95% of home bakers, our starter did not survive 2023. RIP Ernie. We cannot wait to roll our sleeves up and learn a thing or two from the pros.

There’s plenty of parking onsite so don’t waste a single second more of your life not having visited The Bread Social’s sweet new space.

We create only the finest and most wholesome hand-crafted baked goods on a daily basis.

MEET JOHN GAMBARO

Managing Director at Gambaro Group.

One of Brisbane’s most well-known restaurant identities, John Gambaro, has hospitality in his blood. From growing up surrounded by culinary legends to leading his own ventures as Managing Director of the Gambaro Group, John is serving up a slice of that famous Gambaro magic right here on the Coast. With the recent opening of Pipi’s and Awaken, he’s bringing Mediterranean-inspired dining and fresh, coastal vibes to Coolangatta. We chatted with John about what inspired him to follow in his family’s footsteps, what makes the Gambaro brand so successful, and his thoughts on the Gold Coast food scene. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

It’s always tough to capture everything in a few words, but I am perfectionist when it comes to delivering the best service, food, and presentation. I pay close attention to the details and take pride in the quality of my work. I also know that the food industry is always changing, and I’m open to learning and adapting to stay in tune with those shifts. On a personal level, I deeply value my family and friends. I consider myself a caring, compassionate and emphatic person, and I always try to be there for the people who matter most to me.

You come from a long line of hospitality legends – what inspired you to follow in your family’s footsteps?

I’ve always been deeply inspired by my father. Over the years, I’ve watched him not only serve exceptional food and provide outstanding service but also build meaningful connections with wonderful people he’s met along the way. His passion for the hospitality industry goes beyond the kitchen – he was truly devoted to ensuring every customer leaves happy and satisfied. Seeing his dedication to making each guest feel valued and appreciated has had a lasting impact on me, and it’s shaped how I approach my own work. His ability to connect with people, combined with his commitment to quality, has been a constant source of motivation for me.

What do you think is the secret sauce behind the Gambaro family’s success in the industry?

I believe the key to our success lies in our complete commitment to engaging with and truly listening to our customers. We strive to understand what they want, while always maintaining consistency in both the quality of our food and the level of service we provide. Our strong work ethic, along with the dedication and support of the incredible staff

we’ve had over the years, has been fundamental to what we’ve achieved.

Congratulations on opening of Pipi’s and Awaken on the Gold Coast! What made you choose this location?

The breathtaking location and panoramic views have been a constant source of inspiration for me. I’ve also been influenced by the work of developer Paul Gedoun, whose dedication to building world-class developments in this area reflects his deep love and passion for the community. His commitment to enhancing the area and improving the lives of those who live here has been truly inspiring.

MILKING A LASTING LEGACY FOR QUEENSLAND’S DAIRY FARMERS

Maleny Dairies is your local QLD family-business with heart.

If you’ve ever found yourself yearning for the good old days when milk was so fresh it virtually moo’ed back, then Maleny Dairies has got you covered. This family-run business in the beautiful Sunshine Coast Hinterland has been delivering the cream of the crop when it comes to dairy goodness for the last 24 years.

We’re talking milks that’ll transport you back to your childhood, along with premium creams, yoghurts and custard – all available at your local Independent Retailer, Coles, and Woolworths stores. But it’s not just the udderly delicious products that make Maleny Dairies stand out in their field, it’s also their unwavering commitment to nurturing both their community and the planet.

Firstly, let’s talk bovines because contented cows produce the best quality dairy products. Maleny Dairies sources milk from 12 locally based farms, where the cows graze freely on the lushest pastures in our sunny state. Not only do they work closely with their local dairy farmers, but they pay the highest farmgate price in the state. That’s right, they’re really milk-ing it when it comes to sustainability, ensuring farmers are moo-ving in the right direction by supporting sustainable land practices and fair payments. In fact, last year alone, Maleny Dairies provided a whopping $14.6 million in payments to Queensland dairy farmers. Legen-dairy!

Leading the herd on environmental responsibility, they launched their Environmental Social Governance (ESG) framework in 2022, aligning with the United Nations’ sustainability goals. This approach is all about creating a vibrant business that not only rewards their workers and community but also ensures the highest level of care for their cows, while reducing their environmental impact. Truly committed to the greater good of their ‘hood, Maleny Dairies gives back in other ways too.

The last financial year saw them donate over $200,000 in product and vouchers to local businesses, schools, and non-profits, helping fundraise for all sorts of great causes. This generosity has earned them back-to-back wins at the Sunshine Coast Business Awards in the Food and Agribusiness category, and they’re gunning for a third this year because let’s face it, when you’re this good, why not aim for the Hall of Fame?

Back to the all-natural products, the speedy turnaround time from cow to carton means they are bottled cold, delivered fresh, and stay fresh for longer.

As for our faves, we can’t go past the Farmer’s Choice Milk with no additives, preservatives or added sugar. The Sweetened Greek Style Yoghurt is the MVP, as is the tangy and smooth Sour Cream

With the Christmas season creeping up at an alarming rate, make a note-to-self to grab a bottle (or five) of the creamy, velvety Maleny Dairies Custard when you’re doing your prefestive-feasting shop. It’s perfect for pouring over your holiday desserts, or just straight into your gob (no judgement here).

And for the lactose-intolerant folks, Maleny has cracked the code on dairy that’s easy on the belly but big on flavour, with lactose-free products – without that sickly sweet taste.

So next time you’re cruising down the dairy aisle, don’t just reach for any old carton –reach for cream de la cream. You’ll not only be supporting local farmers and sustainable practices, but also treating yourself to farm-fresh flavour that will have you saying “moo-re, please”.

Picture a sleek interior with marble, wood accents, just the right splash of greenery, suspended shelves, and ceramic dishes that are practically Instagram influencers in their own right. Once the lights turn down, the space turns into a mood-lit wonderland with warm orange and red hues that make every bite feel like a Michelin star experience –without the Michelin star price tag.

Eska’s menu is an eleven outta ten in the shade, with selections that change depending on what’s available. Crafted with the expertise of Sydney hospitality pro Alex Wong (Martinez and Lana Dining), Eska brings top-notch quality to the table. Expect a showcase of the finest seasonal seafood sourced daily from local fishermen, including stunning Seafood Towers alongside a delightful array of oysters, sashimi, ceviche, and prawns

With a little magic from Pete Rogers of Burleigh’s Flor Wine & Grocer, the beverage selection perfectly complements the seafood spread. You’ll find natural champagnes, refreshing rosés, and crisp whites, with a few creative cocktails added in to spice things

up. Prepare for the Yuzu Margarita to steal the spotlight thanks to its bold mix of tequila, yuzu sake, lime, chili, agave, and tajin that packs one heck of a punch. And for something smoother, the Mango Breeze is a deliciously tropical twist on a classic negroni.

Now, let’s talk about the real flex here; Eska’s ultimate community hub design. You can roll up in your thongs, dog by your side, for a casual bite. Or, if you’re feeling fancy, go all out with a dressed-up dinner that’ll impress even the snobbiest sashimi connoisseur. Eska doesn’t discriminate – it’s welcoming, laid-back, stylish as hell, serving up some of the best seafood you’ve ever tasted (whether you’re in boardies or black tie).

So, whether you’re planning a date night, a mate night, or just in the mood for something fresh, all roads lead to Eska. Dive in, slurp some oysters, and sea what all the fuss is about.

P.S. We hear their takeaway game is as strong as their dine-in experience so even if you’re more Netflix-and-sashimi inclined, Eska’s got you covered.

MEET ADRIEN DAVID

Founder of Sommelier’s Tasting Room.

It’s never wise to keep things bottled up, especially when it comes to wine. We caught up with Adrien David, esteemed sommelier and founder of Sommelier’s Tasting Room. With a resume as international as a fine wine list and a passion for the grape, Adrien has spent over 10 years working as a sommelier in top restaurants around the world. Whether you’re new to wine or a seasoned enthusiast Adrien’s latest venture, Sommelier’s Tasting Room is his opportunity to share his passion, creating experiences that linger long after the last glass is emptied. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m born in the Champagne region in France and raised in Paris. I’ve lived overseas for the last 10 years in a few different countries: London, Norway, Switzerland, New Zealand and Australia. I’ve always worked as a sommelier, in Michelin star restaurants, fine dining, and even at the French Open as head sommelier.

I have a huge passion for wine and I love sharing it with people.

When COVID happened I became a scuba dive instructor and grew a passion for teaching and I found the right balance in my business between education and sharing what I love the most, wine and cheese!

Tell us about Sommelier’s Tasting Room…

The Sommelier’s Tasting Room is a unique wine and cheese tasting experience with 7 wines on the tasting menu from unique grape varieties all around the world, a beautiful European cheese board and French bread.

We offer three different packages: The Classic Wine and Cheese Night, perfect for those who want to discover and learn the basics of wine tasting, an Intermediate Level, which focuses more on wine pairing and includes rare wines and an Advanced Level, showcasing topend appellations from around the world.

The idea is to make people travel, discover and experience something French but also different. During this dinner there is a part of education about wine, wine tasting and cheese but also some entertainment during the experience. Those events are private, so I come to your place and set up everything for you except the table and the chairs. Also, I do an open table every month to give the opportunities for the people who don’t have a group or even the space, to join the experience. What inspired you to start it?

Wine is a product that almost everyone drinks and enjoys regularly with plenty of people willing to learn about wine but most of the time,

the wine courses can be too serious or even too professional for someone who just wants to learn to appreciate a glass of wine.

I want to give an alternative to this by bringing friends around the table to share their wine and food while learning in a very approachable way.

But the genesis of the Sommelier’s Tasting Room comes from a funny situation. I found a lot of people having a glass of wine every day but not holding their glass properly and here is the first step of the education.

I also wanted to create an experience on the Gold Coast that is good value for money, different and affordable for everyone! What is a wine you’re loving at the moment that won’t break the bank?

To be honest, there are a lot but if I can give you one white and one red they would be: Sven Joschke Chardonnay ‘La lulu’ 2023 from the Barossa Valley for the white and G.D.Vajra Langhe Rosso 2022, a blend of Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Fresa from north Italy for the red.

For the uneducated (us), what type of wines would you never buy a cheaper version of?

The classics like Chardonnay or Sauv Blanc. Putting a little extra money into these is often very rewarding when you get to drink them. What are your best wine and cheese matches?

The list is long but here is couple: A Taleggio (washed rind from Italy) with a Nebbiolo from Piedmont, or a strong goat cheese from Loire Valley in France with a Sancerre. Are there any food additions we should add to our cheese platters that match well with wine? Adding dry fruit or fresh fruit to add a touch of sweetness and also nuts.

YOUR PERFECT LOCAL LUNCH STARTS NOW

Make Local your new daytime go-to.

By now, you are no doubt acutely aware of Local’s GOAT-esque status, so allow us to provide some intel you may have missed. This Burleigh neighbourhood fave, famous for vibes, food and bevs that hit just right, is now open from 11am! While other pub-style venues keep you waiting until noon like it’s some kind of brunch embargo, these guys are staunchly committed to silencing our rumbling bellies before PM officially hits and on behalf of the people, we salute you.

Before we dive into the nosh, let’s talk spaces because Local has plenty. There’s the beer garden, decked out with large booths and a fairy lightcovered royal poinciana tree that lights up like something straight out of a Taylor Swift song.

If you’re a fan of cans, you’re in luck – the tinnie bar is fully stocked with all your faves and if your furry friend wants to tag along, Local welcomes dogs into the outdoor areas with open paws.

For those seeking a more refined experience, the lush velvet-lined indoor booths are perfect for long lunches or marathon pub feeds. Or if you’re the sporty type (or the type who just likes to pretend while sitting next to a large beer), the main bar has two epic TVs for all your game-watching needs.

Whether you’re a burger buff, savvy with your steaks, or just fanging for a pub classic, Local’s got you covered. For starters, the Prawn Roll is a must-try, with beer-battered king prawns, sriracha aioli, yuzu mayo, baby cos, and pickled cucumber, all tucked into a toasted brioche bun.

If you’re feeling fancy (always), there’s the 350g Scotch Fillet, a Black Angus Riverina MB

3+ masterpiece, served with a leaf salad and shoestring fries. It’s steak, but make it fashion. Or if you prefer your protein in pie form, the Steak and Ale Pie is a banger with 24-hour Australian beef, Coopers dark ale, paris mash, and tomato sauce. So chunky, you can carve it!

Okay we’re getting really serious now and for seafood lovers, the John Dory is a winner winner fish dinner, complete with blue swimmer crab, brown butter capers, cauliflower puree, broccolini, asparagus, and crispy kale. Or Seafood Linguine (a crowd favourite) with swimmer crab, king prawn, chilli, garlic, cherry tomato, pangrattato, white wine and capers, will induce a drool reflex before your first bite.

Let’s not forget the cocktails and yeah nah, that would never happen. You simply can’t leave without trying the signature Valley Girl, a gin, elderflower liqueur, lychee, pomegranate, and lime creation that and brings just the right balance of sweet and tart.

With live music Fridays through Sundays, Local is as satisfying to the ears as it is to the palate. Whether it’s a long lunch, a cheeky mid-week steak night, or a business meeting that ends with a cocktail (because, don’t they always?!), you’ll always leave with a satisfied tum, great mems, and probably a great story to tell.

So grab your mates, your pup, or even that client you’re trying to woo and head to Local because no matter which way you slice it, this crowd-pleaser is pretty fetch (yes, we’re still trying to make fetch happen).

PERK UP IN PALMY Espresso yourself at bantR.

There’s a new kid in town and it’s the perfect spot to indulge in a few of the things we Gold Coast locals love; good coffee, better food and a little bit of banter with the crew.

The new eatery is called bantR and it can be found on the Gold Coast Highway in Palm Beach where Espresso Moto once lived.

It’s brought to you by longtime Palmy locals Dean and Susan Olarenshaw who owned much-loved Beach Shack in Currumbin for 20 years before selling up in 2016.

Since then, the pair have owned and run many businesses, including a couple of F45

gyms but they found themselves wanting to venture back into the hospitality industry and didn’t waste any time nabbing the perfect location once Espresso Moto closed its doors.

The interior is giving mid-century meets pop culture vibes with a huge Samuel L. Jackson mural taking up one wall in honour of Dean’s favourite movie Pulp Fiction.

bantR’s ethos is all about great coffee, good food and amazing service and with All Press Coffee on offer, you know that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

Their signature sip is a Strawberry Matcha and as we know, the TikTok girlies are always on the money, so it’s an absolute must-try.

Head Chef Greg Venz has been in the business for 13 years, working in cafes and restaurants across the Coast.

His experience shines through in breakfast dishes like Smashed Avocado which is made up of house made smashed avocado served on toasted sourdough and topped with fried chickpeas, broccoli crumb and goats cheese and the healthy bantR Bowl featuring Moroccan honey roasted pumpkin, grilled

greens, spinach, blistered cherry tomatoes, grilled enoki mushrooms, house made beetroot hummus and topped with toasted almonds

You absolutely will not be leaving hungry with the Pulled Pork, Beef or Karaage Chicken Burger selection available for lunch.

Our pick is the Karaage Chicken Burger with Cos lettuce, coleslaw, karaage chicken thigh, pickled ginger, kewpie mayo and sweet soy sauce

bantR also stock Two Baked Sisters cookies (a local lady who makes amazing treats).

Of course, there’s plenty more goodness to be sampled and with the beach right around the corner, there’s no better way to spend your time than with a visit to bantR for some tasty eats and a perfectly brewed cuppa and then a dip in the big blue.

With a healthy dose casual chat to accompany of course.

FOLLOW THEM HERE tasty eats and a perfectly brewed cuppa…

OPEN: 7 days from 6.00am 2/1389 Gold Coast Highway, Palm Beach Good coffee, great eats and even better company. Dog friendly!

TOP NOTCH GRILLS

Fire, flavour and fabulous feasts at Clifford’s Grill & Lounge.

Clifford’s Grill & Lounge has just celebrated its 10th year as the Gold Coast’s go-to grill house. Round of applause, please! Maintaining five-star standards in hospitality is no easy feat, but for Clifford’s it’s a walk in the park. And if you’ve seen their menu lately, you’ll know why. It’s straight fire… literally and figuratively.

Located within the charming voco Hotel (formerly the Watermark), Clifford’s is just steps away from the Surfers Paradise tram station –no designated driver required!

Despite being in the heart of the bustling Surfers Paradise, Clifford’s offers a surprisingly serene escape. Inside, the mezzanine feels intimate and cosy, while the upper deck and bar, with floor to ceiling windows, which open during summer, is perfect for people-watching as the world goes by.

Renowned for their succulent steaks and smoky share plates, we’re here to tell you that Clifford’s excels from turf to surf. Whether you’re a meat lover or a seafood aficionado, they’ve got you covered. From pasture and grain-fed meat, to the freshest seafood and vegetables, Clifford’s uses only the best local produce and grills it to perfection.

Executive chef Daniel Smith brings a wealth of global expertise to Clifford’s and is passionate about his produce. His mantra is maximum flavour, minimal food miles, and he is proud that Clifford’s sources all their ingredients from within a 200km radius.

Their signature sharing dishes are of epic proportions and include a 1kg char-grilled t-bone steak, sliced off the bone, served with three dipping sauces, and sides of truffled mash, and specialty salada. Or how about a colossal 1.2kg tomahawk steak grilled to perfection? We hear zero objections! It’s served sliced with freshly grated horseradish, black garlic, truffle mustard tapenade, and house jus. Okay, we have one more mouthwatering recommendation for you, slowcooked lamb shoulder – started yesterday and pulled apart today. Say less!

For those who prefer lighter fare, Clifford’s menu also offers a delightful array of options with a notable Asian twist. Think delights such as seared scallops with mild prawn sambal, sticky braised pork belly, served on a dollop of pea puree and topped with chilli hair. Or how about seared ahi tuna, sliced and served

with fennel and ginger pickles, toasted nuts and seeds, and a drizzle of sesame dressing?

Too many options to decide? We highly recommend Clifford’s great value $79pp Signature Banquet! A perfect way to sample a range of delicious dishes, including Garlic Sourdough (because bread is life), 3-hour Slow Braised Sticky Pork Belly, Pumpkin and Mozzarella Sicilian Arancini, choice of shared main, along with sides of truffled mash and house salad! Whatever you choose, we encourage you to leave room for dessert, or if you’re like us, we have a second stomach for that. We recommend their famous Bombe Alaska – salted caramel and vanilla bean ice cream, encased in scorched meringue and topped with candied macadamia nuts. O.M.G. Word to the wise, if you order it, be prepared to share. This showstopper will induce serious food envy. Everybody else at the table will be vying for a taste.

Feeling thirsty? Clifford’s has you covered with a drink menu that’s just as impressive as their culinary delights. Sip back and relax with signature cocktails like the Spiced Rum and cinnamon laced Pineapple Express, or the tropical and spicy Miami Heat. Clifford’s boasts a wine list that’s been carefully curated to pair perfectly with their smoky, grilled dishes. And for beer enthusiasts, Clifford’s offers a variety of craft brews, featuring both local and international favourites.

Clifford’s Grill & Lounge offers an unforgettable dining experience. With its prime rib location, relaxed ambiance, and flame-licked fare, it’s no wonder Clifford’s has become a Surfers Paradise staple.

HONOURING LIVES WITH LOVE

The

holistic approach of Tiare Funerals.

For anyone who has experienced the heartache of losing a loved one or is preparing to say goodbye, the importance of a service like Tiare Funerals & Deathcare becomes profoundly clear.

Tiare offers something truly special – a compassionate, holistic approach that not only honours the life of the person who has passed, but also supports and empowers families through every step of their journey. It’s far more than just a funeral service; it’s a space where meaningful goodbyes are defined by care, love, and deep respect for both your loved one – and those left behind.

An unwavering commitment to giving families the freedom and support to make the choices that feel right for them is what sets them far apart from other funeral services. Led by founder Charmaine Blanch, Tiare offers a deeply personal, holistic service that ensures every farewell reflects the true spirit of the person being honoured.

Unlike many traditional funeral services, Tiare’s approach is not about fitting into a mould. Instead, Charmaine and her team focus on collaborating with families to create a beautiful, personalised service that

uniquely captures the essence of their loved one, whether it’s a natural burial, a sea burial, or even an end-of-life celebration.

The journey starts by taking the time to get to know the person who has passed; their life, personality, and the mark they left on those who loved them. From there, Tiare helps families shape a farewell that not only honours that loved one but also respects the wishes of the family. They offer a wide range of services, from traditional funerals and cremations to alternative options that go beyond what most funeral homes provide, such as water cremation, sea burials, and athome viewings.

Charmaine’s personal experience with loss profoundly influences her compassionate approach to deathcare. Having lost both of her parents and grandparents at different stages of her life, she understands the deep emotional toll that comes with saying goodbye. She also recognises how disconnected and business-like the traditional funeral process can sometimes feel. It was this personal experience,

especially after arranging her own father’s funeral, that led her to create a service that is supportive, caring, and empowering for families.

One of the most touching aspects of Tiare’s offerings is their continued support long after the funeral has taken place. Grief is not something that ends with the service, and Tiare recognises this by providing free monthly grief circles. These gatherings are designed to create a safe, nurturing space where those who have lost someone can come together, share their feelings, and participate in healing activities such as meditation, breathwork, and sound therapy.

Tiare also offers free phone consultations and support for those looking to manage the funeral process themselves, providing guidance and resources like cold plates and storage for families opting for DIY funerals.

They also offer support for families who have suffered the loss of an infant through stillbirth. Recognising the unique trauma and grief that come with such a loss, Tiare provides free transfers, bathing, and dressing, as well as a complimentary cardboard coffin. These compassionate offerings can help lighten the emotional and financial burden on families while giving them the space to say goodbye with dignity and love.

By extending families the flexibility to create meaningful, personal farewells, Charmaine and her team ensure that no two goodbyes are the same. In a world where the funeral process can often feel impersonal, Tiare offers a profoundly human experience – one that helps families navigate loss with dignity, understanding, and love.

Create meaningful, personal farewells.

A full cycle holistic funeral service with heart
