CONCRETE PAD REQUIREMENTS 6" - 3000# PSI Concrete 6 - 6" x 3/4" Anchor Bolts

This equipment conforms to all applicable ANSI Z 245.1-1984 Safety Standards. The sterilizer pressure vessel is built to A.S.M.E. specifications and certified by CAL OSHA.

Mark VII-N Sterilizer / Compactor Installation Specifications CONCRETE PAD : The preferred dimensions of the concrete pad are 10 ft. wide and a length of 5 ft. greater than the combined length of the San-I-Pak and receiving container, i.e., 46 feet long. The pad should be a minimum 3,000 psi concrete, steel reinforced, 6" thick. " The concrete pad must be level, with no more than 1/2" slope side to side, or end to end." If the San-I-Pak will be mounted on a dock, the dock must also be level. If there will be variations, call the factory for assistance in determining suitability. If a pad is already present at the proposed installation site, insure it conforms with the standards above. For good housekeeping practices on ground level installations, we recommend the installation of a trench drain beneath the area where the San-I-Pak and the roll-off container connect. The pad should be positioned to allow adequate maneuvering room for the container handling vehicle. Allow a minimum of 45 ft. of clearance space from container end for such equipment. ANCHORING: The San-I-Pak will be anchored to the concrete pad using a minimum of six (6) 3/4" x 6" long anchor bolts. Ramset Trubolt anchors or equal will be used. _The holes will be drilled in the concrete after the San-I-Pak is placed in position." The holes in the base plates are oversized to permit the use of a 3/4" concrete drill. The installation personnel will shim to compensate for any pad unevenness and then tighten all nuts securely. The container guide channels will be anchored utilizing 5/8" x 4 1/2" Ramset Trubolt anchors or equal. ELECTRICAL: The San-I-Pak unit requires a 120V control circuit as well as a 3 phase power source. The control voltage circuit should be a minimum of 10 amps and be dedicated just to the unit. If the San-I-Pak installed cold weather package is used, the service must be a minimum of 20 amps. The electrical should be stubbed up as shown in the enclosed installation drawing. The electrical can be run from overhead and attached to the San-I-Pak as long as it doesn't

interfere with the removal of access panels. After the San-I-Pak has been installed, run power lines between fused disconnect switch (customer furnished) and San-I-Pak electrical panel box, in accordance with local codes. This fused disconnect switch should be sized in accordance with the following specs:   

208 Volts = 70 Amp 240 Volts = 50 Amp 480 Volts = 30 Amp

STEAM SUPPLY: The San-I-Pak requires a minimum steam pressure of 65+ pig, and is capable of handling a maximum of 125 psig. You are only required to install a pressure regulating valve in the steam line if your pressure is above 125 pig. If your steam pressure is below 125 pig, do not install a PRV in the line. We recommend you run a minimum 1" insulated line. Best Sterilization performance requires a minimum of 97% to 100% saturated steam vapor. It is required that a shut off valve and a pressure gauge be installed at the point of connection. The steam line is typically stubbed up through the concrete pad. If this is not possible, the steam line may also be run from overhead and attached to the San-I-Pak so as not to interfere with the removal of access panels. The San-I-Pak unit comes equipped with an inlet strainer and separate water trap to insure a minimum of water in the supply line, but if you have a long run of piping, it is advisable to install a drip leg with an additional bucket or thermostatic trap. Insure the steam line has no low spots that may act as a water trap. The steam should be free of corrosives and scale, to prevent corrosion and/or buildup in the lines. WATER SUPPLY: Waste processing capacities of 400-800 lbs/hr. requires 3/4" water line at a minimum of 30100 psi. DRAIN: A floor mount drain should be installed beneath the San-I-Pak near the connection point of the roll-off container. Typically this will connect to a sanitary drain line. For any variances, contact the factory. A 2 1/2" copper or black pipe drain line will be connected to the condensate tank on the San-I-Pak unit, and plumbed so as not to create any back pressure. All condensate will exit from this line. PHONE LINE: A dedicated phone line, separate from the facility's switchboard, must be installed into the electrical cabinet. The phone jack must be a standard AT&T plug in type (Part Number RJ11C). This is for the modem communication for troubleshooting assistance and/or the optional ServNet programming.

Post-Treatment Descriptions The results of the pre-vacuum in conjunction with high temperature and 38 psi pressure causes a major (60%) reduction in volume of the encapsulated sterilizer waste. The shriveled appearance of the waste makes the individual components of the waste difficult to identify, however the thermal test strip on the chamber liner or autoclave bag assures any onlooker that the waste has been sterilized. With the addition of the optional shredding system the sterilized waste would be rendered unrecognizable and physically harmless. Shredding is not required by San-I-Pak as part of the sterilization process. Complete sterilization throughout the waste load is achieved with every cycle in the San-I-Pak system without shredding or breaking up the waste. For those facilities that are either required to render the waste unrecognizable or feel more comfortable disposing of this type of material,San-I-Pak designs and manufactures post-treatment shredding systems. San-I-Paksystems shred after the sterilization process. Shredding waste prior to treatment or breaking up waste with the system door open creates the possibility of aerosolizing the microbial life contained in the waste thus endangering the operators. All shredding systems will require maintenance, and in order to perform maintenance on a pre-treatment shredding system many safety precautions must be adhered to. It is because of these liabilities that San-IPak encourages post-treatment shredding systems. San-I-Pak sterilizers require no pretreatment of the waste to be processed.

Products: Sterilizers San-I-Pak manufactures infectious waste treatment systems with processing capacities from 25 pounds (12 kgs.) to thousands of pounds of waste per hour. Our clients include healthcare facilities, laboratories, waste processing facilities, international airports, air catering kitchens, borders and ports of entry. All equipment is manufactured, assembled and thoroughly tested before leaving our factory floor where we monitor and ensure quality control. Bonus incentives are in place to reward our personnel for zero manufacturing defects. Our engineers design systems which accommodate each facility's specific site requirements. Although automated designs are our primary line, we have a basic philosophy: If It Sterilizes, We Build It!

Treatment Process Safeguards: 

Programmable Logic Controller: Each unit is equipped with a programmable logic controller (PLC) which controls and coordinates all automated activities in the unit. The PLC is programmed to only discharge waste from the sterilization chamber when complete vacuum, pressure, time duration, and temperature parameters have been achieved, assuring proper sterilization with every cycle.

Locking Sterilization Chambers: Once the waste has been loaded into the sterilization chamber and the sterilization cycle has been started, the door of the chamber will automatically lock. The door will remained locked until all sterilization parameters have been achieved.

Strip Printers: The San-I-Pak strip printer prints the time, temperature, pressure, vacuum, and operators' identification number for each sterilization cycle. Any system interruption or operating irregularity will also be printed with the corresponding date and time. Equipment Process Description and Waste Flow To operate, the sterilization chamber is positioned for loading and a liner is inserted into the chamber, then secured with the clamp ring (the purpose of the liner is to keep the processed materials from sticking to the chamber, however it is not necessary to operate the sterilizer). The infectious waste red bags are automatically or manually loaded into the sterilizer and the chamber liner is unclamped, tied and bag is tucked into the sterilizer. The chamber is then rotated into the sterilize position, the load door closed and the sterilize cycle initiated. TheSan-I-Pak first pulls a vacuum within the chamber to remove the air. This air and any airborne microorganisms are mixed with 307 degrees F steam. Then, steam enters the sterilization chamber until the chamber reaches a minimum of 38 lbs. of pressure. After a temperature of 270 degrees F is achieved, a 30-minute timer is automatically activated. Within minutes, the chamber will reach its ultimate temperature of 281 - 284 degrees F. Tests run by various certification agencies have proven that temperatures in excess of 270 degrees F., combined with a pre-vacuum cycle, will kill Bacillus Stearothermophilus. Upon the completion of the sterilization cycle, the system then vents down and the steam is run through a diffuser where it is recondensed to water. After the sterilization cycle is completed, the operator will open the load door and initiate the dump cycle. The waste within the sterilization chamber is then automatically discharged to the compaction chamber and compacted into the roll-off container. One of the unique advantages of the San-IPak system is that it is a dual waste system; you can simultaneously compact general waste while sterilizing infectious waste. General waste is dumped directly from the Tilt Truck Cart (or other specified cart) into the compactor. Once the compactor "start" button is pressed, the compactor ram pushes the waste into the roll-off container. When the roll-off container is full, it is disconnected from the compactor, loaded on the waste hauler truck and hauled to the landfill or designated final disposal site. The Efficacy of a San-I-Pak System San-I-Pak's method (steam sterilization) is accepted by medical waste regulatory agencies and state health departments in all 50 states as defined in Medical Waste Handbook, Federal and State Regulation written by David S. Freeman and Gregory H. Siskind. San-IPak equipment meets and/or exceeds all existing State and Federal regulations for the treatment and disposal of infectious wastes and has in fact been the standard for developing these regulations for years. Steam autoclaving, which is the basis of the San-IPak treatment process, is the most accepted alternative method of medical waste treatment in the world. San-I-Pak systems have been developed to insure the proper efficacy of every load infectious waste processed. The chambers are designed to insure proper load density and waste penetration for "Total Sterilization". Upon initiation of the sterilization cycle, San-I-Pak systems first pulls a vacuum (prevacuum) within the sterilization chamber in order to remove the air. The pre-vacuum is an important element of the sterilization process because it eliminates the excellent insulating qualities of air. The air and any airborne microorganisms, which are extracted during prevacuum, are mixed with 307ยบ F. steam and piped into a sanitary sewer line. After prevacuum, steam is pumped into the sterilization chamber, because of the vacuum conditions, steam makes contact throughout the contents of the chamber instantly. Steam enters the sterilization chamber until the vessel reaches a minimum of 38 lbs. of pressure. Pre-vacuum then steam injection ensures total penetration of the steam into the waste. After a temperature of 270ยบ F is achieved within the chamber, a 30 minute timer is automatically activated. Within minutes, the chamber will reach its ultimate temperature of 281ยบ F - 284ยบ F. Tests run by various certification and regulatory agencies have proven that temperatures in excess of 270 degrees F., combined with a pre-vacuum cycle, will kill Bacillus Stearothermophilus. Processing safeguards incorporated into San-I-Pak's design are to ensure complete treatment of the waste. San-I-Pak units are programmed to only discharge the waste after operational parameters have been successfully achieved. Parameters for sterilization include the pre-vacuum cycle, chamber pressure, time duration and temperature. The sterilization parameters are programmed into the unit's Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and cannot be changed by the operator, unless San-I-Pak is directed to provide optional programs for the PLC. The analog capabilities of the PLC are extremely reliable and allow simple and accurate monitoring of the San-I-Pak sterilization process. Each San-I-Pak unit is equipped with a digital display which clearly shows each machines function as it takes place. The display will also alert the operator if there is a system interruption or problem, i.e., power has been shut off to the unit, the sterilizer won't initiate a cycle because the key switch hasn't been depressed, etc. When an 'alarm' occurs, the digital display will explain what actions need to take place in order to resume operations. The alarms are stored in the units computer for future reference. In addition to the digital display eachSan-I-Pak unit is equipped with a strip printer which records time, temperature, pressure and vacuum for each sterilization cycle. Any alarms that may occur will be printed out with the date and time listed. To further insure operational quality San-I-Pak offers the 'In House Monitoring System' which enables the remote monitoring of the San-I-Pak equipment by either Environ-mental

Services or Engineering management. The software allows the manager to monitor current, real-time functioning of the equipment and provides complete machine diagnostic capability. Additionally, the manager can down load all historic cycle information directly into the software's data base. The information provides the manager with total machine performance levels. From collected data, main-tenance requirements can be scheduled prior to experiencing any un-scheduled down time. The software enables the facility to have on file, a synopsis of every cycle the machine runs during its lifetime. Strict programming of the control electronics of all San-I-Pak units prevents the discharge of un-sterilized waste. San-I-Pak employs parametric motoring, which is superior to Biological Test. The computer has a built-in steam table that enables constant comparison of vessel temperature with vessel pressure. Other fail safes such as time to vacuum, vacuum level, time to temperature, droop control and vent time exceed conventional testing. In the unusual occurrence of any discrepancy in the programmed parameters, the process will be halted and then after correction cycle must be restarted. Select to View Info on Efficacy Testing of San-I-Pak Equipment Testing Performed on San-I-Pak Equipment: A study composed by the Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens (U.K.) entitled Categorisation of Biological Agents According to Hazard and Categories of Containment recommends that contaminated CJD materials be treated in a high vacuum sterilizer at temperatures no less than 134°C (273°F) for 18 minutes. The parameters of the San-IPaksystem are 285°F for 30 minutes. Due to San-I-Pak's treatment parameters and unique design, San-I-Pak was the only technology tested by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, USEPA, to achieve total kill with each and every test that was performed on the San-I-Pak system. Because ofSan-I-Pak's proven reliability, several institutions across the country that have admitted CJD patients have processed this waste material through a San-I-Pak system. In cases where the hospital did not have a San-I-Pak system, the waste was transported to a San-I-Pak location for treatment because the hospital was not confident their current disposal method would properly treat the waste. J. L. ANALYTICAL SERVICES: In 1982 J. L. Analytical Services was contracted, by San-I-Pak , to run efficacy tests utilizing the San-I-Pak located at Sonoma Hospital (Attachment 1). Six pathogenic microorganisms were used:  Canadida albicans  Escherichia coli  Klibsiella pneumoniae  Pseudomonas aeruginosa  Salmonella typhimurium  Staphylococcus aureus One non-pathogenic heat resistant microorganism was used:  Bacillus stearothermophilus A total of 12 tests were run, each utilizing different loading conditions. After the sterilization process, the pathogenic microorganisms were incubated in their carrier tubes for 7 days at 35º C in accordance with FDA and USP procedures for sterility

testing. Likewise, the heat resistant spores of Bacillus stearothermophilus were incubated in their ampules for 7 days at 55ยบ C. Unheated pathogenic organism controls were incubated at 35ยบ C and unheated Bacillus stearothermophilus controls were heated at 55ยบ C. Conclusion: All heat resistant (Bacillus stearothermophilus) and pathogenic microorganisms were killed after being processed in the San-I-Pak unit. Each control sample demonstrated good growth within 24 hours. THE PERMANENTE MEDICAL GROUP, INC.: Most medical facilities are required to run weekly efficacy test to insure waste sterilization. The Permanente Medical Group, Inc. provided San-I-Pak with a copy of their weekly efficacy test for a period of 42 weeks (Attachment 2). The Permanente Medical Group Regional Laboratory uses Bacillus stearothermophilus as their indicator organism for their weekly tests. Conclusion: The Permanente Medical Group weekly test results shows no failures for the period recorded. AMI ST. LUKES HOSPITAL: AMI St. Lukes Hospital had attached their condensate discharge tank's exit pipes to a storm sewer instead of a proper sanitary sewer line (Attachment 3). Samples were taken from the condensate tank's discharge pipe and sent to Industrial Laboratories for analysis. The Colorado State Health Department requested that the samples be tested for Escherichia coli. As stated in the test result, all bacteria was killed prior to discharge. Conclusion: Test results was an additional verification that the San-I-Pak kills all microbial life within the waste stream. UNITED STATES ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY: The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Solid Waste contracted with the Research Triangle Institute to test available medical waste treatment technologies for their ability to inactivating microbial agents. The treatment technologies were evaluated based on the reduction of quantities of indicator organisms (Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus stearothermophilus). San-I-Pak was one of the available medical waste treatment technologies chosen for testing. All field tests were run using one of our unit installed at a Veteran's Administration Hospital. Bacillus subtilis was used as an indicator organisms because of its resistance to very dry heat. This organism would reflect conditions where autoclave steam or other moisture might not penetrate a waste load. Bacillus stearothermophilus was used because it is recognized as being extremely resistant to moist heat. For each test run the indicator organisms were placed in the centers of actual hospital medical waste in both suspended (moist) and dried states. The load were placed into an autoclave biohazardous bag and then into the autoclave chamber along with additional biohazardous waste. A total of 13 treatment cycles were tested over a two day period and with a variety of medical waste. The medical waste stream included material from all patients care and

treatment areas with exception of waste from the microbiology laboratory, all sharps, and all pathological waste. Waste bags were randomly selected for testing. Results: For all tests run on the San-I-Pak unit during the Research Triangle Institute's reached not once did any of the indicator organisms (Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus stearothermophilus) survive. The San-I-Pak demonstrated a 100% kill on every sterilization cycle. Conclusion: The conclusion the Research Triangle Institute reached at the end of their San-I-Pak efficacy tests states: "The San-I-Pak steam autoclave system for medical waste treatment was shown to be effective in consistently inactivating high levels of thermally resistant bacterial spores, both steam and non-steam exposed." Treatment Chamber Evolution From 1978 to 1992, San-I-Pak manufactured square sterilization chambers, which were integrated with a compaction system. During this period, hundreds of systems were manufactured. After a few years of operation we noticed a tendency for many of these chambers to require additional maintenance and repairs due to stress cracks caused from both the pressure and vacuum of the system. The square chamber design has proven to have an operating life of 5-10 years while the 316L stainless steel round chamber has an immortal life expectancy. Please look at the figure below to better understand why San-I-Pak made the transition to a round chamber design.

Shown without reinforcements, slight flex with inforcements cause termination.

774-4999 | 684-8684 | 663-5913 Email : infowinston@yahoo.com

Aside from the issues faced from the wear on the square chambers by the pressure and vacuum, we were also able to design the new chamber without a hot jacket. Therefore, the round chamber design uses far less electricity since we do not have to maintain a 105oC while the system is not in use. In the case of most sterilizer systems, only about 30% of the chamber is used after the waste is loaded. A majority of the chamber contains air, not waste. As a result, less steam is required when operating a San-I-Pak system since up to 95% of the chamber can be utilized during the processing of the waste. The round chamber also allows for quicker penetration of the heat into the waste load and will not allow for "cold pockets" like most other sterilizer systems. The round chambers have a much more efficient ability to radiate the heat evenly within the waste load.

POST INSTALLATIONS (Not offered on every system): After the San-I-Pak system has been in operation for approximately sixty days a San-IPakService Technician will return to the facility to complete any minor adjustments that may be required as well as provide additional in-service training. All additional operating and maintenance personnel who were not in-serviced during the initial installation will be trained at this time. NO CHARGE FOR SERVNET EQUIPMENT PACKAGE: San-I-Pak offers it's ServNet Equipment Package at no charge. This system allows for remote connection to the unit via a modem and includes: modem, data transmission card, programming and phone line connection for remote trouble shooting and programming updates. ON-CALL SERVICE PROGRAM: San-I-Pak's advanced telemetry SERVNET package that includes modem, communication cards, and software, will enable the member facility to utilize San-I-Pak's On Call Service Program. At the hospital's request a San-I-Pak technician will contact your systems PLC from our factory to immediately determine the issue you may be encountering. After analyzing the condition the service technician will be able to clearly explain how to correct the problem, or will dispatch a technician to your facility if necessary. LANDFILL ACCEPTANCE: San-I-Pak's success across the nation has been attributed to working very closely with regulatory agencies and especially those that ultimately work with solid waste. San-I-Pak is the only manufacturing company with official agreements involving approximately 80% of the U.S. landfills for waste disposal. Before installing the equipment, San-I-Pak will contact landfill personnel so they fully understand how our equipment operates and the safeguards that are built into the system to insure that only sterilized waste comes out of the San-IPak equipment. Proof of landfill acceptance of San-I-Pak treated waste will be supplied to customer prior to sale. NO CHARGE FOR INITIAL SPARE PARTS PACKAGE: San-I-Pak offers initial Spare Parts Packages for its equipment purchases. These kits consist for the most commonly replaced items used on the equipment. Having these parts on hand facilitates maintenance personnel in performing repairs on the spot as needed, saving downtime related to parts ordering and saves the amounts spent on piority shipping for parts needed in a hurry. NO CHARGE FOR DEODORANT SYSTEM PACKAGE: San-I-Pak will offers it's Deodorant System Package at no charge. This system will help control the odors associated with sterilization.

WASTE AUDIT PROGRAMS: San-I-Pak offers services to analysis facilities waste needs and develop a facility wide plan to manage waste. We combine a PM schedule on equipment with a waste audit for waste procedures. BUNDLED AGREEMENTS: San-I-Pak is the only infectious waste equipment supplier with agreements with both WMI and other waste transporters. If requested we could make arrangement to get them involved to offer a Bundle Agreement to handle all aspects of waste treatment and landfill disposal.

Products: Shredders San-I-Pak has invested over one and a half million dollars in shredding research and development. We have evaluated over 60 manufacturers of shredding equipment and have worked directly with over 20 manufacturers and/or technologies of reduction equipment. Our extensive efforts have lead us to believe, we offer the best shredders for medical waste available on the market today.

POST-TREATMENT SHREDDING SYSTEMS: Shredding is not required by San-I-Pak as part of the sterilization process. San-I-Pak's shredding systems shred after the sterilization process. Shredding waste prior to treatment or breaking up waste with the system door open creates the possibility of aerosolizing the microbial life contained in the waste thus endangering the operators. All shredding systems will require maintenance, and in order to perform maintenance on a pretreatment shredding system many safety precautions must be adhered to. It is because of these liabilities that San-I-Pak encourages post-treatment shredding systems.

San-I-Pak sterilizers require no pretreatment of the waste to be processed. SHREDDER LONGEVITY: Historically, the longevity of shredders is directly dependent on the severity of operating conditions due to a facility's ability to segregate non-shreddables from the waste stream. Under optimum conditions and good segregation practices, a two-stage shredder's cutting teeth may last as long as two years. Because San-I-Pak shredders are low speed (less than 10 RPM) and high torque, they do not self-destruct like high speed (greater than 40 RPM) particilizers and grinders. The advent of our advanced electronic sensing system has extended the life of the cutter teeth by stopping the rotation of the blades before they break. Cutter teeth used under conventional sensing technology rarely last longer than 6 months. In order to minimize the possibility of damage to the shredder system from unshreddable material San-I-Pak has designed its systems to allow the operator to view the waste before it is introduced into the shredding system, and removes any material that will cause damage. San-I-Pak shredding system are low speed, high torque systems with electronic monitoring which will remove power to the cutter teeth in less than eight one hundredths of a second. This significantly reduces the likelihood of cutter teeth being broken by an unshreddable object. The thicker the cutter blades of a shredding system, the shorter the processing time and the greater the volume processed per hour. Also, thicker shredder blades will reduce maintenance and decrease damage caused by the inclusion of non-shreddables into the waste stream. However, the particle size of the final product increases in size with direct correlation to the thickness of the blades. Because thicker blades are more durable, maximizing the size of the cutter blades is always a goal. In order to meet the desired particle size required by your facility, our engineers will assist you in blade selection. SHREDDER HOPPER TENDER: San-I-Pak has patented a Shredder Hopper Tender Non-Shreddable Clearing System that dislodges materials plugged in the hopper without the equipment operator having to risk clearing. SHARPS MACHINE TRAY SYSTEM: San-I-Pak has designed a specially constructed sharps tray system allowing for no exposure to needle sticks while handling sharps. First sharps containers are place in the tray , tray is loaded into chamber for processing, then tray is positioned in front of sharps machine and containers are loaded into sharps hopper for shredding. Select for Sharps Machine Tray System pictures ONE AND TWO STAGE SHREDDERS: San-I-Pak offers both single and dual stage shredders that can be sized and configured to meet unique Facility or State requirements. Select for One and Two Stage Shredders Information & Specifications SHARPS MACHINES: San-I-Pak manufactures two versions of the "Sharps Machine" for the destruction of sterilized sharps and their containers. The Unrecognizable Sharps Machine and Unreusable Sharps Machine both are recognized by health departments and related agencies throughout the country as a positive means of treatment and disposal of sharps.
