LETTER FROM MATTHEW SANDERSON
A New Era For Ingram After the successful release of its first edition, I am very happy to extend a warm welcome to Ingram Micro Advisor Issue 2. We had some excellent feedback following the inaugural publication and have made efforts to ensure that future content remains relevant and interesting to our channel partners. The fourth quarter of the year has seen a lot of successes and changes for Ingram and its stakeholders. Our relationships with our new colleagues at recently acquired companies continue to grow and we are witnessing efficiencies and excellent results from these collaborations. We have also endeavoured to continue our charity work and support for Action for Children into the final months of the year, with a number of fundraising events planned including a reprisal of our Christmas present collection and raffle.

Action for Children Ingram Micro UK has joined forces with Action for Children to raise crucial funds to help vulnerable and neglected children, young people, and their families, throughout the UK. To date our combined efforts have raised over ÂŁ9000 and we are not stopping there. Our fundraising efforts kick started back in December 2015 where we encouraged associates to purchase gifts for a child of specific ages in an Action for Children Secret Santa. This proved to be a great success and we exceeded all gift expectations! We have since gone to organise raffles, FIFA tournaments, a Great Ingram Bake Off with a special Halloween edition thrown in for good measure, our legendary 24-hour bike-a-thon with 37 riders taking it in turns to cycle a whopping 480K, a Snowdon Trek and much
more. To finish off what has been a great 2016 we are planning our second Secret Santa present giving alongside a raffle and some sponsored activities. Together with Action for Children we hope that these activities and the ones we have planned moving into 2017 go some way to making sure every child and young person has the love, support, and opportunity they need to reach their potential.

DID YOU KNOW
Helping solution providers transition their portfolio to incorporate cloud services Simon Day explains how Comms-care bridges the gap between technologies old and new. The compelling reasons for organisations to adopt cloud technologies are now well understood and solution providers are increasingly being asked to provide cloudbased services to their customers. The challenge is that cloud computing is such a fast-moving area of technology that it is difficult to stay on top of when also managing business as usual.
Are you traditional or born in the cloud? At Comms-care, we see two distinct groups of solution providers grappling with “the cloud”. The first group includes ‘traditional’ reseller partners who are looking for a way to transition their service portfolios to a more modern environment with all of the benefits that cloud computing can deliver. The second are those companies that have been ‘born in the cloud’, established with the sole purpose of providing cloud-based solutions from the outset. Although smaller in number than the first group, this category is continuing to grow extremely quickly. Recognising their different requirements and the need to keep up with day to day work, we have built a series of services that ‘plug the gap’ between old and new technology for both groups. For the first group, we can provide white labelled cloud services that can be sold into customers alongside traditional IT services and solutions. We also provide knowledge transfer and education for sales teams and technical staff so that partners can get up to speed on the latest thinking on cloud services and how they can help customers

adopt them and operate more effectively. For the second group, we can provide know-how and expertise in ‘traditional’ IT and how it needs to be integrated with newer cloud-based systems, for example hybrid. Again, we are already providing knowledge transfer and education to individual partners that can help them sell and support a holistic IT platform. We can also supply support and managed services for ‘traditional’ on-site technologies that can be provided to end-user customers via our partners. These are of huge value to ‘born in the cloud’ companies that don’t have the resources or bandwidth available to provide such services themselves and may need to handle bursts of activity for customers adopting new systems within a tight timeframe.
The value of accreditation Our partners trust Comms-care to provide cloud services because we have
DID YOU KNOW
demonstrable experience and expertise through our accreditation programme. Not only are we accredited to the highest levels by our technology partners including Microsoft, Cisco, Citrix, and VMware, but we work extremely hard to maintain our ISO accreditations, notably ISO 27001 - Information Security Management and ISO 20000 - IT Service Management, both of which deliver an immediate competitive edge when bidding for contracts and build confidence in the services we deliver on behalf of partners.
Reaping the benefits of cloud While solution providers are only too aware of the general transition to cloud or hybrid cloud/onsite IT platforms, there will be more to play for as the market continues to develop. At the moment, big cloud providers including Microsoft, Amazon Web Services and Google
will pay solution providers a portion of the software licence they have sold to a customer, but we are likely to see a shift in these vendors’ remuneration in the future. Instead of sharing in the software licence fee, solution providers will be rewarded according to clients’ usage of a given cloud platform. It will therefore be in resellers’ interests to understand how their customers could consume the technology they have purchased. For example, organisations could build more applications using the likes of Microsoft Sharepoint or turn-key solutions that utilise Skype. Comms-care is currently working An INGRAM MICRO Company on a service catalogue of solutions that will help partners drive end-user organisations’ consumption of software on cloud platforms, helping to deliver on Ingram Micro’s vision to provide a range of managed services for partners as launched at its i360 Cloud Conference.

them into a single 20 Gbps bi-directional channel. The amount of data able to go through a Thunderbolt connection hasn’t increased, but the throughput of a single channel has been doubled. Thunderbolt 2 is also able to stream 4K video due to this high bandwidth.
Mac users often encounter graphic intensive work as well as the challenge of using multiple devices. With Thunderbolt™ 2 data transfer speeds of up to 20Gbps (four-times faster than that of USB 3.0), users can expand computing capability more easily via a simple daisy-chain configuration without the need for an extra connector. LG’s Thunderbolt™ 2 monitors with full Mac-compatibility reduces the need for multiple cables. Thunderbolt combines PCI Express and DisplayPort into a single connection, allowing for a combination of up to six peripherals, like storage devices and monitors, to be daisy-chained together. You can also connect USB and FireWire peripherals via Thunderbolt, as long as you have the proper adapter. Thunderbolt™ 2 is an update to the original Thunderbolt™ specification and takes the original two 10 Gbps bi-directional channels and combines

DID YOU KNOW
Ingram Micro extends its product portfolio by offering mobile device insurance services that cover loss, theft and damage of mobile devices. Q&A with Stephen Morgan, Director of Insurance Services. Q. Ingram Micro is known for the distribution of mobile products. What made you decide to add mobile device insurance services to your portfolio? A. Although Ingram Micro has been selling mobile devices for years, the acquisition of Brightpoint took us a big step forward in what we could provide to customers. And then with the acquisition of ANOVO we increased our capabilities further with the provision of repair and recycling services. So it seemed like a logical next step to add mobile device insurance capabilities to our portfolio. These insurance services are provided through Ingram Micro Protect, and enable our reseller partners to offer an end-toend solution to their customers covering the product lifecycle. In many cases an
20 Ingram Micro Advisor
end user may purchase a mobile device then source insurance elsewhere as the reseller doesn’t offer a solution. So by introducing Ingram Micro Protect we’ve made it simple from the outset, so that those resellers can concentrate of making more from their existing mobile device sales while Ingram Micro Protect take care of the rest. We have the logistics expertise, we have the repair facilities and hold all the relevant accreditations. The insurance products are supported by AXA Insurance, so our partners can be sure of the cover provided.
Q. What does the insurance cover and what are the benefits?
A. This Ingram Micro Protect insurance is for mobile products such as laptops, smartphones and tablets and covers all customers, business and individuals. And there are a fair few of them out there that like the peace of mind that their device is protected. All the top device brands are covered and the application process is very simple. Rates begin from as little as 10p per day with various cover levels including protection against accidental damage, water damage, theft or loss and for travellers there is 60 days of coverage around the world. It also includes free product collection and replacement device delivery.
Q. And what are the benefits for partners?
A. For partners that sign up, Ingram Micro Protect makes it easy to create an extra stream of income through commission payments based on product sales they are already making. And for partners with larger volumes there is even a white label option to reinforce their own brand further. And if the unfortunate does happen, they know that their customer is taken care of with a quick repair or replacement which can help build customer loyalty.
Q. After the loss or theft of the device, how do customers organise a replacement?
A. In the event of an incident for theft or loss, all claims are handled by the Ingram Micro Protect team, through the website www.ingrammicroprotect.com/uk which is available 24/7 or through a dedicated call centre. Once the claim is approved, there is a next day courier service for replacement of stolen/lost devices. In the event of an incident for damage to a device, there is a free collection service and devices are returned by courier once repaired.

Ingram Micro Protect makes it easy to create an extra stream of income through commission payments based on product sales they are already making
Q. Due to their nature mobile devices are more prone to damage from by being dropped. How and under what conditions do you repair or replace the product? A. Accidental damage and damage caused by liquids are covered by the Ingram Micro Protect products. Accredited repair experts will assess the damage to decide whether to repair or replace the device. Repairs follow a strict specification and are performed in our specialized premises in the UK. And for extra peace of mind, all repairs are guaranteed for three months. Replacement units are provided quickly from new or refurbished stock, their delivery is traceable and fast, since the devices are normally collected and delivered the day after the claims are validated.

Moving on up – why it’s time to retire PCs over four years old. Discover how Dell brings greater value to the cost of refreshing laptops and desktops. Security risks, rocketing support costs and plummeting productivity – three reasons why it’s vital to replace ageing hardware. But many organisations have a ‘wait until it breaks’ strategy. Dell wants to change this by highlighting the true cost of waiting and what’s at stake.
IF IT AIN’T BROKE, WHY FIX IT? Holding onto laptops and workstations beyond four years might look like a simple way for organisations to get maximum value from their IT investment. But it’s not as simple as that. Dell’s recent research shows this practise is anything but good value. For resellers, this provides a strong message to take to potential customers to drive your sales of laptops and desktops. So let’s look at four crucial areas where Dell’s offer adds value and helps deliver lower total TCO. STRONGER DATA SECURITY, WHEREVER EMPLOYEES WORK Older PCs can’t cope with many of the latest security updates, leaving organisations open to increasing security risks. About 75% of organisations have experienced a security breach in the last 12 months1. In the most serious cases, when customer identities are stolen, it can leave companies facing a huge fine and reputational damage. That means sticking with old equipment might be a very costly decision indeed. Cyber attacks are becoming more sophisticated, with 95% of security
22 Ingram Micro Advisor
breaches happening at the endpoint. By equipping the workforce with new Dell devices, everyone has the security of Dell’s Data Protection, with Endpoint Security Suite Enterprise. This provides advanced threat prevention, encryption and authentication, so people can work safely anywhere and data stays secure. For administrators, it simplifies security tasks - policy setting, remote management of user credentials, passwords and more. The result hardware, operating systems and applications are protected. Read more about Dell Security Solutions.
BOOST EMPLOYEE PRODUCTIVITY AND BANISH DOWNTIME Ageing tech can be a significant drag factor for any organisation. But one that’s often overlooked. Systems over four years old have twice the downtime of newer ones2. That means a growing list of tickets for IT and frustrated employees who can’t work. Also, older operating systems can scupper application updates – and those enhancements that help us work smarter and faster. Magnify the effect across the whole business and you quickly see that waiting until it breaks isn’t delivering value after all. Refreshing hardware with businessgrade devices such as Dell Latitude laptops and OptiPlex desktops powered by Intel® can significantly boost productivity. Employees are working with the latest iterations of applications, downtime is distant memory and they have self support on their device to resolve issues without involving IT.
Dell Enterprise Suite stops 99% of malware before it can run
DISCOVER SOMETHING NEW
Keeping PCs and laptops for longer than four years dramatically increases support costs.
LIGHTENING IT’S WORKLOAD AND SAVING ON COSTS On the receiving end of support calls from frustrated employees is the IT department. Supporting outdated hardware and software eats up IT’s time and pushes up costs. In fact, for PCs over 4 years old, it can cost far more to maintain them than they are worth. Adding to this burden is PC diversity, which means the IT team has to use multiple tools to manage the various brands and types of devices within the company’s IT estate. With many IT teams facing shrinking budgets and a skill shortage, it’s small wonder 56% want consolidated tools3. And that’s exactly what they get with Dell Client Command Suite. The free systems management tools reduce complexity and effort, minimising costs and increasing efficiency. Deployments pose similar challenges, especially with more employees working offsite. With Dell, IT teams can take advantage of the Configuration and Deployment Service to push out new technologies to end users, consistently and reliably, without disrupting their productivity. Find out more about Deployment Services.
MAKE A SUCCESS OF WINDOWS 10 DEPLOYMENT The end of support for Windows 7 is coming. IT professionals know they need to make the move to Windows 10. And now is the right time to start. One key part of migrating successfully to Windows 10 is having desktops, laptops and tablets that are primed and ready. The other critical success factor for large deployments is working with a partner who has proven experience. Bringing both together, Dell has recently been awarded Windows 10 Deployment Partner of the Year by Microsoft. This means they have tools, products and expertise to help organisations assess their readiness and make rapid deployment and adoption a reality. Find out more about Dell and Windows 10.
MAKE MORE MARGIN WITH WARRANTY UPGRADES Business customers often welcome the reassurance of an extended warranty. We make it quick and easy to upsell at the point of purchase with the Dell Warranty Options Tool. Find out more. JOIN THE DELL LOYALTY PROGRAMME Be rewarded for your sales of Dell products by joining the Loyalty Program for Registered Partners. It offers a unique approach to being rewarded. Five Ways to Extend the Life of a Webinar After you’ve captured your webinar audience, what happens next? Your speaker and content were powerful in that one hour the webinar was live, but wouldn’t it be great if you could prolong your influence and generate even more leads long after it ends? Here are some best practices you can use to increase webinar ROI after the big event is over: 1. Repurpose your content A webinar doesn’t have to live forever as a slideshow. Convert it into white papers that can be downloaded from your company website. Consistently post webinar topics on your blog and social media with links to the webinar recording. Upload clips on YouTube, Slideshare or Vimeo to maximise your reach. 2. Send a follow-up email Contact registrants within 24 hours of the webinar with a link so they can watch and download slides of your recorded webinar on demand. Highlight special offers for the services or products you’re selling. If you had an incentive drawing during your webinar, encourage open clicks by announcing the winner in the message and subject line. And if registrants have easy access to the recording, they can share it with their teams or business partners.
conversations after the webinar ends. Create a space on your website where people can comment and discuss. By doing so, you’ll be able to use audience input for ideas, market research or even future content creation. 5. Promote and promote Promote archived webinars during current related webinars to get more exposure for your content. To be more strategic, send promotional emails to targeted viewers about your archived webinars based on the webinars they are currently signed up for.
3. Link and enable sharing across platforms Make your webinar content’s presence known far and wide. In addition to providing links to the recorded webinar and slideshow, posting webinar transcripts with strong keywords also makes it easier for search-engine traffic to aim for your website. Allow registrants to easily share webinar content by adding social media share buttons to the webinar page. Strategically embed your webinar content across social media platforms, partner websites, e-newsletters and blogs. 4. Use audience interaction tools Polls, Q&As, surveys and social media should be used after, as well as during, the webinar. For example, you can use Twitter hashtags during the webinar to track down

* The 4GB RAM/32GB Flash configurations of the TC5 Series will be released in Q1 2017.
NO MORE COMPROMISING DEVICE DESIGN FOR ENTERPRISE FUNCTIONALITY Only from Zebra, the unique Active Edge™ Touch Zone and back case button give your workers one-touch access to the device features and applications they use the most. When the going gets tough Rugged handhelds, tablets and laptops get the job done – even in the toughest workplaces. Working on the move and in the field is the norm for employees in all sorts of industries. Mobile phones and tablets go everywhere the job demands. But what if that job takes you to a construction site, a manufacturing plant or a gas pipeline? That’s when you need Getac’s range of rugged devices. Equipped with V110 notebook or T800 tablet, you’re ready for the toughest day at work.
Using the right tools for the job makes business sense The speed of business is the same, no matter how hostile the working environment. Knocks, chemicals, dust, water and freezing temperatures - the job still needs to get done. And the choice of equipment can be the deciding factor as to whether that happens. This is why specialist rugged mobile devices are a better choice than the usual consumer brands.
There is an old adage - buy cheap buy twice It’s easy to see why businesses might be tempted by the lower price tag of consumer-grade devices. And it’s a point that’s bound to come up when you’re discussing rugged devices with your customers. Their initial investment may cost less, but consumer-grade products are much more likely to be damaged in harsh working environments. And that means higher repair and replacement costs, plus loss of productivity and an impact to the service the customer. It’s a better investment to choose a product that’s fit for purpose first time and see the

MARKETING TIPS
Get Great Results with Effective Customer Surveys Nine tactical steps to offering exceptional surveys When crafted with care, surveys can strengthen your relationship with customers and provide a reality check on how customers perceive your company. Follow these nine steps to create customer surveys that provide the insight you need to run your business better. 1. Identify goals Identify three goals you want from the survey before writing questions. Every question should align with those goals.
8. Personalised thank-you page Create a personalised thank-you page for customers who complete the survey.
2. Keep surveys short Between five and 10 questions. If the question doesn’t produce an answer that meets your survey goals, cut it.
9. Time the survey Time the survey to appear soon after an interaction with customers, such as a conference, sales meeting or road show. Your company will be top of mind for customers due to that recent interaction, and they will be more likely to respond.
3. Write both closed and open-ended questions With the closed questions, keep the rating scales consistent to avoid confusion. 4. Be as specific Be specific as possible and edit multiple times to ensure questions and answer options are clear. Let someone outside your group review and provide feedback.
Give your customers a voice with customer satisfaction surveys. You don’t know what they’re thinking about your business until you ask them.
5. Test survey questions Test survey questions with a sample group to see if the questions provide the feedback you want. 6. Include an incentive. Offering a gift card, a prize drawing or a discount can increase response rates 5-20% percent. 7. Low-cost online tools Look for low-cost online tools to help you create your survey and track customer responses.
