1 Product Design
ECOFFEE LIGHT reuse of cof fee grounds
Problem
Recently,the need of coffee has rosen steeply.The coffee grounds we make on the earth per year could build up 20000 TAIPEI 101.The proportion of recycling coffee grounds accounts below 10%.It’s quite lower than other items.However,if these were sent to landfill fields or incinerators,the process would product harmful gases like carbon dioxide and methane.

Actually,there are many ways to reuse coffee grounds.It’s usually use as dehumidifier or deodorant in our daliy life.In order to give a new life for coffee grounds,I hold two workshops to share how to reuse them.

Workshop I taught attendant to dye handkerchief and to sew drawstring in the first workshop. We found different kinds of fibers have different absorption on coffee grounds.In addition,the coffee grounds in drawstrings are helpful for us to dehumid in damp area or to deodorize.

In the second workshop,I combined coffee grounds with other materials.For examples ,adding some coffee grounds in soap to strengthen the ability of detegent. The other one is mixing coffee grounds with hanna powder as natural hair dye,which is particularly useful for those who have white hair. According to my experience,it’s easy to dry coffee grounds with sunshine or microwave oven.Though lots of people know the benifits of coffee grounds,they seldom do something about recycling due to the lack of motivation.

The coffee grounds box is convinient to carry when you buy a cup of coffee. This personal box is designed for taking away the coffee grounds you make. After arriving the work place,put the box above the lamp shade and then turn on the light.Coffee grounds can be dryed by the heat of light,simultaneously, the smell of coffee widespreads around your space.The box at the bottom is for planting,using light as sunshine and using coffee grounds as fertilizer.

The first principle is user-centered.Service should be experienced through the customers’ eyes.The second one is co-creative.All stakeholders should be included in the service design process.Thirdly,sequencing.It could be visualised as a sequence of interrelated actions.The fourth is evidencing.Intangible service should be visualised in terms of physical artefacts.Finally,holistic.The entire environment of a service should be considered.
Process In the process of producing a cup of coffee,the coffee grounds are finally thrown into trash can instead of recycling.In order to reuse the coffee grounds,I’d like to design ECOFFEE LIGHT as kind of service design.

Top holder is for coffee grounds which was dried by the heat of light as well as electric heating piece.
Dig holes in plantting pot to drain water. The material of main body is ceramic which could drain water from pot.

Led light has two kinds of color which could absorbed by plant. The color of light is alternating by time.

Discover
We can know what time it is by seeing our watch or cellphone.We could plan our schedule by writting down.Though we make a note,we sometimes still forget it.However,some applications on phone could help us to solve this problem. Those who are visually impaired could not know the time immediately and also make a note in the present.

The shape of ring came in to my mind.I’d like to combine the function of watch and recorder. What they lacks in visual ability,it makes up for in feeling of touching and listening.

LIGHT UP SPONGE
Discover
Bowls and Dishes could be dried more quikly and the bacteria on their surface could also be eliminated by UV-light. An idea comes into my mind,’’ why not design a house for sponge? ’’Sponge is always wetting after we use it,and then we just put it around the sink.This such damp environment encourage bacteria to grow on sponge. According to recent research ,I found that the bacteria on sponge is 200,000 times higher than toilet seat cover.If we still use sponge those are in bad condition,we may get sick after we finish our dishes.

Eliminating the bacteria which breeds in sponge by UV light.
How This product are suitable for any sponge in rectangle shape. Sliding on sensor to turn on UV light, the time of irradiation is lasting for 5 seconds.

UV-C light is operated around 40 celcius degree,its temperature is a little bit higher than human body.Thus,I choose metal as main material.Metal has good conduction of heat ,so we can use this product in comfortable temperatue.

The wavelength of UV-C is from 200 to 280 nm,its penetration is poorer than other UV lights.That is why I use pure quartz as bulb skin.

Portable Kitchen Enjoy cooking in your camp

Inspiration I participated in a club about taking care of children in Tsing Hua University.We hold winter and summer camping twice a year.It quite hard for kids whose are aged between 8 and 12 to cook well by themselves.Especially,cleaning vegetables and rice as well as cutting food into pieces.Therefore,I’d like to design kitchen gadgets for them to learn basic knowledge on cooking.

Problem
When we go camping,the clean water and table are not always available. It has potentialdanger for children to be sick without washing their hands, if they touched food directly.In addition,cutting vegetables or meat on uneven ground is quite hard for kids.They do not know some basic knowledge on cooking.For examples,the chopping board for meat need to be distinguished from vegetables.

5 Architecture
Architecture course in UAL
In the begining of the course,the western architect and architecture are quite irrelated to me when my teacher introduced them to us.I am just like someone with a limited outlook.
I had architecture tour in London.We visited Norman Foster’s Gherkin.I really appreciated the structure inside more than its shape.
We had a research program on Llyod’s building.The inside-out building is quite instresting and innovative.It’s designed by Richard Roger.Centre Pombidou came into my mind,both of these are inside out.
We had reconstruction program in Gray Inn’s garden.But,it is individual program this time. I made collage at first by magazines and newspapper to imagine the space.Secondly,I sketched the building that I’d like to put in the garden.During this process, I have to observe the population,transpotation,local culture and weather there. Finally,I made a model to express my idea. It’s significant to do the research and find the solution.That is what I learned from this program.
In the final program, I won the championship and doughnuts as awards.My idea came from Gherkin as kind of green architecture.My project is to construct a ocean museum near the beach. Therefore,I must take the ocean wind into consideration.This shape could reduce the strength of wind and guide away the wind.
