OUR NEXT ISSUE

A l e t t e r f r o m t h e c r e ator "Why did I make InPiece?" As a photographer, I recognized the significance and the struggles of being published in a reputable fashion or photography magazine. However, the more prominent magazines, which I admire, are being bombarded with submissions from more established photographers; in more substantial and more culturally developed cities such as New York, London, California and among other great cities. The chances of having my work published by well-established magazines were minimal, so I decided to start my own magazine. I want to share my work and other's work in smaller cities. There is an incredibly abundant amount of talent outside of these monopolies, but they lack exposure. I aspire to show the world a piece of our art. Be it photography, makeup, fashion, and among other outlets and expressions of creativity. Currrently, InPiece is based in Jacksonville, Florida- an up and coming enormous city with a growing artistic community. I have experienced amazing and captivating work from many photographers that do not have the exposure that they deserve. I want to help artists reach the public by publishing their work. My extensive background in the graphic design industry allowed us to start InPiece without too much struggle. Currently, the InPiece team consists of myself as designer; my wife, Helen, as editor; and my cousin, Angel H., as co-designer/editor of the magazine. If you want to be part of this team and you have abilities and knowledge to help us make this real, please contact us at inpiecemag@gmail.com I sincerely hope you enjoy our first issue and stay with us for many to come. Our first issue took a lot of time and energy, but it was worth it, and we are excited about the future of InPiece. Bryan Pizarro

Photographer ig - @inktolin | Model ig - @amarie0511 | Styled by - @amarie0511 Ashley is a great model with an awesome sense of style. Not only style but a very bold person. This shoot is not as crazy as it might seem, but our second shoot that day involved an astronaut suit that you can find in both our Instagram accounts. Ashley was aiming for an urban slightly futuristic attire; inspired by the Japanese culture (anime). Is there a Carnival in town? Then go! The carnival where the photoshoot took place was completely empty on a Tuesday night. It allowed us to plan our shots better, get more comfortable with the surroundings and be fully expressive. The second two sets of photos on the following pages were taken in a small store near the neighborhood. We had in mind an Asian food store, but little did we know... the store changed to a Carribean or Latin grocery store. Sometimes things do not go as planned, but we have to make the best of it! - Bryan (Inktolin)

We were aiming to get a busy environment were you can buy from fruits and vedgetables to used walkers (not really). We enjoyed walking and seeing how many diffrent worlds you can find in a flea market. Each store or ile was a new theme or background to shoot. Definately looking forwart to shooting again in locations like this, - Bryan (Inktolin) InPiece | October 2019 | 19

@WHOISDAMNSAM My name is Sam Torres. I've been cutting hair since the age of eight and its has been a passion of mine. After serving 12 years in the United States Navy, I realized where my heart and soul belong in a world of style, change, innovation, and fashion. Through the hair industry I have been able to express everything that has been built up inside of me. During my time serving, it seemed that there was just something holding me back from where I actually saw myself. Once I departed from a place where my appetite wasn't being sustained, I found myself getting involved in what brought me joy even in my younger years which was hair, design, and being an influencer in the different arts. I am blessed to say I was able to build bonds with people and have started building my own empire that has only grown, from the love of everyone that has motivate me and continues to help feed this drive I got in me. I won't say that my story has always been this happy. But through the years, like anyone, I went through the rush of anger, hurt, love, success, you name it... I've gone through bottling some of it up and found that I had to break the glass barrier and be "free". Being "free" is a loose word people don't understand, until you witness the passion I put in my customers hairstyles, social media, and my videos expressing who I am and who SAM TORRES is. My family have truly been the pillar that holds me up. My two daughters keep me laughing and staying strong. Just as my wife

pushes me to never back down from

what I want to chase in life, as we set a limitless future for our family. But even when I talk Family, the people that know me have become an extension that support me, to tap into the potential I have and where I am. But you probably want to know, how I found me in the craziness, that has become this empire that I am building. Its simple... does the word "hunger" mean anything these days!? I'm not even talking about missing a meal hunger. No, I am talking about when you have so much in you and so much to offer, such as goals I can achieve, going into those avenues that people aren't thinking to try, and having those nights your brain just don't stop going crazy cause you know you could be grinding and setting the bar higher for yourself! I tell you that satisfaction is hard to come by for me. I know how it is out there in the world, that the offers are endless and you can make anything happen. I found myself learning that I can't be complacent or still. I have to move and go for mine for not just me, but my family. The hustle is real and life isn't stopping for me or you, so why should I not take it all and give back to those around me. Before you joke and say "empires have always fallen". I will tell you that within these walls, stands unity, a vibe that puts higher than the clouds, and so much love. That through all the bull-ish, you always see the rising of the sun. Now I ask, do you have an idea of who I am, or are you still asking... WHOISDAMNSAM?

Photographer ig - @patschneiderr | Model ig - @thecharlielive The Gas station shots were a last minute photoshoot I did specifically for this magazine shoot, I had my film camera handy and I positioned my model in the style I like my models to be in and got these amazing shots in a 7 eleven before getting kicked out (in the nicest way possible)

The toys r us shoot meant a lot to me, not due to the nestalga but the history behind that specific toys r us. I grow up a lil bit in San Diego and would always go get toys or look around at that specific toys r us.16 years later I return to an abandoned building left to rot with only the exterior left of its history. Portraits have always been what stuck to me in my craft and am very excited to show everyone what I have in store next. InPiece | October 2019 | 27

For this set I teamed up with Maddie Anderson (@andmaddie) and Kyria Bird (@kyriabird) to create another look on housewives / trophy wives and play on the theme of shopping. We wanted to get out of the box and think of something a little more challenging and went with the thought of online shopping, from there we bounced around ideas and came up with a behind the scenes look at house wifes who seem they have it all. Our goal was for these photos to portray the emptiness and how materialistic things are a comfort to some people. What people may see on the outside may not always be the same as the inside. Our story behind this creative photoshoot was to perceive different aspects of characteristics held in ones emotions. To be or feel an emotion, and then another. Expressing our thoughts through this photo shoot was meant to show a more serious, moody side, and onto a more flirtatious side. All at the same time, incorporating the vibes of shopping and searching. -Cora Byrd

I have always loved the iconic fashion from the 60's and 70's. The fun fabrics, bold prints, and crazy colors were always so inspiring. Today's fashion is a little more muted, comfortable, and seemingly simple. Summer, Alexis and I collaborate on bringing back the fashion of the past. And Winn-Dixie served as the perfect location. Playing around amongst raw vegetables, wrapped meats, and confused customers. These photos are just the start to a larger photo project I have been dreaming of putting together.

EVERYTHING 4 BY CODY QUATTLEBAUM Hootie Shepherd’s Everything 4 $ale gallery and fashion show exemplified his brand’s namesake, Pneuma: meaning breath of life. The 26 year-old from Miami held his first fashion show in Riverside on September 1st and it was well-received. SIX HUNDRED KING STREET In the late afternoon, a number of people descended upon a rustic brick warehouse. In the interior, white open space with beautiful benches painted in the colors of the rainbow lined the catwalk pathway, soon to be the center-of-attention. The benches and lights brought color into the blank space, almost as if it were a canvas. After the showing, as the show’s name would dictate, many pieces were for sale to the sold-out audience.

InPiece | October 2019 | 44

4 $ALE OPPOSITES ATTRACT A mix of eye-catching prints, camo, checks, stripes, solids, and many more impeccable styles on the models came down the runway. The style is defined by its casual yet clean attitude offering a relaxed feel with a polished look. These opposites extend elsewhere as well, like the versatile Arnold Palmer collection which was featured in the show and brought to life with the help of his friend Migo. Thrifty fabrics of different patterns, typically considered clashing or faux pas beautifully brought together to exude a confidence of character. Split designs highly contrasting each other offer a pop of attention but are related enough to compliment each other without being too loud or distracting. It all ties together seamlessly across products for a complete look.

INSPIRATION Growing up in Miami around jamaican roots, his inspiration tells a story in his clothing. His brand’s vibe and practicality are combined for a Florida climate and style. Shorts were a must have for this show, and it took countless hours to bring them from scratch to ready-to-wear, even 42 hours straight at one point. However, the largest stand-out is probably the fact that the pieces are created entirely in-house; cut, sewn, dyed, printed at Hootie’s home. BEHIND THE SCENES There was a massive amount of preparation involved in not only the fashion-wear but also the show itself. Coordinating all the people involved, getting models fitted, deciding on and executing set design, and all of it accomplished without assistants. He was even perfecting last-minute touch ups until the final moments. The show was the brainchild of Hootie but masterfully achieved through collaborative effort. The benches, assembled by Hootie and his friend Scully were painted by his friend Nico, complementing the lit catwalk. A DJ and live music complimented the scene and added an additional layer to the sensory experience. In conclusion, talent was truly on display in many forms. Thank you to Hootie for allowing us to cover the event and get to know a little more about him. Interested to see what Hootie will be doing next? Follow @cvpediem to see what’s next.

THE 12TH STUDIO How long have you been doing this and how long did it take you to develop your style? We have been running The 12th Studio for about 3 years

creative as you. We like our work to feel liberating with a hint of "we didn't come to mess around" even though thats what we always do. We also like the simplicity of a plan white background. We don't need much to make a shot incredible.

together. Before that I ,Shelsey, did up to college level photography in High School. I had a huge passion for it. That photography class room was my happy place . I would make all my friends be my subjects, literally ALL my friends . My teacher really pushed our limits and creativity when it came to certain projects. His perseverance in pushing us to become better really inspired me to different lengths with my creativity. After High School I stopped. Which was sad. A couple of years down the road my boyfriend who is now my husband, Jeffrey, and his friends primarily Scot aka. @aceboogs aka. @astroboogs , decided to pick up cameras and go out and shoot random stuff like cars, portraits, landscapes, etc. They were having the time of their life capturing incredible memories. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't have picked up a camera again , and i wouldn't be writing this. Later on Jeff and I decided to develop The 12th Studio , at first it was gonna be called JSR photography which sounds so dumb to me right now. Our style has changed completely from when we started, Jeffrey develops and creates visual storytelling across multiple platforms. He can change the mood of the video depending on who he's shooting with and what the vibe seems like. I personally like gloomy vibes but i love to cater my edits to different moods as well .

What does your work aim to say? Our work aims to say , we will shoot with you but you have to be down to get creative and weird , we don't

W h a t DO YOU EN J OY THE MOST ? Weddings give you the best feeling , we know a-lot of photographers don't like shooting weddings but we love it. We love meeting new couples that are starting out their journey together , who have amazing ideas and concepts. I always tell them to get creative with their engagement shoot since they can wear what they want and pick any location . The day of the wedding is long and hard , not gonna lie . Everyone is always worried and stressed out but we like to take some tension away by meeting with our couples way ahead of the wedding day and talking about every detail, instead of sending them a list of things we need from them on that day , that would personally stress me out . At the end of the day the most incredible feeling is delivering the final results. Some have told us how they felt like they were living the day all over again . Nothing compares to making our couples happy.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years? In the next five years , we hope to see ourselves in home we've been eyeing since forever, still living a minimal and healthy lifestyle with our two dogs, Kimbo & Kina, completely self-employed doing what we love to do, having more time for personal things, and helping to build a great community of creators .

Whens the next 12th Meet Up?

mind making you do poses you feel awk in because trust me the shot will be awesome, if its not we keep it moving . It's all about trying new things ,new color edits ,new style , meeting new people who are just as

To be announced... @the12thstudio

Credits: Photographer: Bronte Davis (instagram: @redshirtwalking Models: Cassandra Sloan (instagram: @cass___e), Emma Pendleton (@em_pendo) Shopping can be an extravagant affair — of multi-storey complexes, busy with browsers and consumers, and with multiple basements worth of wares to peruse. But it can also be simpler than that. Quieter. More personal. Across the railway lines of my suburb are the old storefronts of the 1900s, now filled with small grocers, restaurants, a bookshop, a used and antique furniture store, an independent cinema, and so on; each making up the distinct feel of the neighbourhood strip. My aim was to represent this in my photographs, to highlight their unique spaces. There's curiosity and wonder, for example, in being surrounded by old records and antiques — objects of the past ready to be appreciated once again. There’s an air of discovery when shopping at these local businesses, of enjoyment in what you might find. (And perhaps take home to be yours, or just pretend for a little while.) - xx Bronte :)
