Directors Message I would like to welcome Mark and Linda Tilton as new INCBCA members. Mark did the wonderful restoration of our 1951 Special DeLuxe. His outstanding restoration work was described in my May 2018 Buick Bugle article, “Longtime Family Member, My 1951 Buick Special DeLuxe” which described the history and restoration of our 1951. Mark has agreed to finish the restoration of Richard and Gloria Stechelin’s 1930 model 57. Their 1930 Buick was featured in an article by Jeff Schindler “The long winding road” in our last month’s Kaleidoscope newsletter. The Stechelin’s have already done considerable restoration work on their Buick and I think that when Mark finishes their Buick, the car will be a real show piece. We had our first meeting of the Steering Committee (SC) on July 8th. The SC will develop a proposal to potentially host the 2023 BCA National Meet. Input to the proposal from all of our Chapter members will be encouraged. We continue to work closely with Pat Wojahn of the BCA National Meet Committee. As I noted in my last month’s message, Ms. Shannon Shannon, Associate Director of Sales at Visit Spokane has developed a Visit Spokane “Sales Lead” document specifying our BCA National Meet requirements. This document has been submitted to area hotels and is the first step in securing rooms and space needed for our proposal. The SC spent considerable time going over Lonnie Priest’s Guidebook for “Hosting a Buick Club of America National Meet.” As well, we reviewed Shannon’s Sales Lead document. Several options for space and parking requirements are being evaluated and will be shared with our members. Additional discussions will take place once we have an idea of individual Spokane hotel capabilities. On July 18th several of our INCBCA members attended the Inland Northwest Car Club Council (INCCC) Downtown Scholarship Car Show in Spokane. From the INCCC website, (http://incarclubcouncil.org/ about-us.php) “The I.N.C.C.C. has approximately 60 car clubs in the Spokane area along with many individual memberships who are not members of a car club.” Todd Smith and his daughter Lucy brought their red 1965 Electra convertible, Jamie Wolff brought his 1954 Century convertible and Stevie and I brought our 1951 Special DeLuxe. Joining us were Richard and Gloria Stechelin, Carolyn Carrothers, along with Mike and Debby Roberts. This was the first time our Chapter was represented at the INCCC car show. The event occupies a large area of downtown Spokane and many other car clubs and their members were present. The INCCC car show raises funds and supports young car enthusiasts with numerous scholarships yearly. This year a number of scholarships were awarded to worthy students. Hopefully, we will be able to have many more of our Chapter Buicks displayed at next year’s INCCC Downtown Scholarship Car Show. Inland Northwest Car Club Council Downtown Scholarship car show images submitted by Todd and Greg notes by jeff schindler BCA# 47629 July 18th 6pm the Spokane downtown core of 10 city blocks get shut down while members of the INCCC take over the streets. All the car clubs come out to share their rides with the public with the highlight of the evening being the presentation of the scholarships in the center of downtown. This year was the largest turnout with a total of 406 vehicles lining the streets of downtown Spokane. Sixteen students were awarded $1500.00 each in scholarships with money raised throughout the year by the various car clubs, a total of 24,000.00 dollars. Over the course of many years a total of $326,000.00 has been distributed by scholarships to the youth of our community with the purpose to further their automotive education. Even though I was unable to attend this years show I do want to personally thank our members who took the time and energy to bring their cars to this very important community event, and I look forward for this becoming and annual event for our group to participate in.

A 1965 Buick Gran Sport Coupe

Following is an article about the Buick I am working on & a little about me. After 43 years in the landscape/erosion control industry, my wife Janice and I followed our son & his family to Post Falls, Idaho. During my adult life I had restored a 1957 Chevy Pick up, a 1957 Belair, 1962 and 1969 Corvettes. In 2001 I went to driving school at Bondurant & Spring Mountain Motorsports. I then sold my '62 & '69 Corvettes & purchased a 2003 Corvette & later a 2006 Z06 and started road racing at Spring Mountain in Pahrump, Nevada for 9 years. So you can see my life pretty much revolved around General Motors cars. After moving to Idaho I needed a project & thru a friend, who has a business restoring cars, I purchased a 1965 Buick Gran Sport Coupe that had been sitting in his shop in pieces for 11 years. The owner had started to restore the car, but lost interest. I was able to purchase the car which I thought would make a good starter car for my twin granddaughters. After much research on the vehicle I decided that another vehicle might be more suitable for them. In paperwork that came with the car I found the protecto plate. The car was manufactured in the Fremont, CA. plant & the original owner lived in the Los Angeles area and owned the car until his death in 2000. The car somehow made it's way to Washington & sat in my friends shop for 11 years until I bought it is 2016. www.inlandnorthwestbuick.org

The Gran Sport has power brakes, power steering, power seat, power windows, tilt steering wheel, ST300 transmission, air conditioning, was triple black (& will be again)  Has all the exterior trim, original engine, transmission, frame with all numbers matching. I am doing a complete restoration and at this point have completed the chassis, and body is back on the frame ready for paint. This will be subbed out.

Dayton All Wheels Weekend

Hi Jeff, here’s some pictures and notes from last Saturdays car show in Dayton June 15th. I mentioned our new Inland Northwest Chapter to those that were with their cars. All seemed interested but I had no club cards to hand out. ☹ I did refer them to BCA website and search for regions/chapters and divisions. I want to thank everyone who submitted images and stories who contributed to this months issue of our clubs newsletter which I like to call Kaleidoscope. Thank you Greg and Todd for the images from the Downtown Scholarship car show, thank you to all our members who attended and got a taste of this wonderful community event. Thank you Gary Weems for your story and images of the 1965 Buick Gran Sport Coupe you have been restoring, we all look forward to seeing it in the near future.
