Directors Message I want to extend a warm welcome to our new member Dick Elston. We look forward to Dick attending our meetings and functions. We had a nice Chapter turnout of 5 cars at the Touchmark Car Show on August 17th. Todd Smith brought his red 1960 Electra, Branum’s their 1960 Invicta, Person’s their 1940 Special, Haynes’ their 1964 Wildcat and Lewis’ their 1951 Special. Congratulations to Gene and Carol for winning the Touchmark Attendees Choice award. There were about 65 cars and trucks present. It was a very pleasant day being able to share friendship with our BCA members and other attendees. Photos from the Touchmark show appear later in the newsletter. The following is the email message I sent on August 22nd to Jack Welch, BCA National Meet Committee Chairman to keep him updated on our progress in developing a proposal for hosting the 2023 Meet. Jack:

I sent Pat Wojahn a msg similar to this yesterday and wanted to make sure you are also kept updated in our effort to develop a proposal to host the 2023 BCA National Meet here in the Spokane area. Pat has been very helpful in providing critical information and background to us in support of our proposal development. As we were exploring various options for the host hotel, space and parking requirements for our potential hosting the 2023 BCA National Meet, I was becoming concerned about the logistics and convenience of the area in downtown Spokane we were looking at – Davenport Grand Hotel and Riverfront Park for the show area. Exploring other options became necessary. I was aware of the MirabeauPark Hotel and Convention Center, located just off I-90 in Spokane Valley between Spokane and Coeur d’Alene. The MirabeauPark Hotel has been the host hotel of the opening night function for the yearly Good Guys Car Show in Spokane for a number of years. Chapter member Grant Person knew the MirabeauPark owner Lee Cameron and set up a meeting Tuesday 20aug2019 with Lee, Doug Griepp, MirabeauPark Executive Director of Sales, Catering and Conventions, Grant, my wife Stevie and myself. The meeting lasted 1½ hours and was very cordial and productive. I provided a brief BCA history and requirements for our proposal. Later, we met Andy Rooney, MirabeauPark General Manager. After the meeting, Doug guided our facilities tour. We were particularly interested in the event space and parking area. Lee mentioned that they now have about 19000 sq ft of convention/event space and parking for nearly 600 cars. I believe that their event space will meet and exceed our potential needs. All rooms can be secured. MirabeauPark just resurfaced their parking lot, widened each parking space, and added overhead lighting. There is onsite space for more than 60 trailers. We had lunch in their restaurant, MAX, and found the food excellent. Their facility has full-service catering and banquet capability. MirabeauPark has a long history of hosting car shows along with other conventions. They partner with other hotels in the area. Based on the information we gave them, Doug mentioned that he and Lee will provide us with a proposal after Labor Day. I assume that their proposal will be the starting point for negotiations. All in all, I think the MirabeauPark Hotel and Convention Center would be a good fit for us as all aspects of our BCA Meet can be contained within one facility. I have attached a pdf of MirabeauPark information which gives a good overview of the MirabeauPark facilities. Thanks for your interest, Greg Lewis BCA #5071 Director, Inland Northwest Chapter BCA

Responses from both Jack and Pat have been positive. Stevie and I will be meeting with Lee and Doug on September 10th to review their draft contract proposal to make sure our BCA requirements are met. Grant Person will be on vacation traveling. I will provide an update to our INCBCA members prior to the contract proposal being sent to Jack Welch and Pat Wojahn for further review. Later, our formal host proposal will come from our Chapter membership and will include the MirabeauPark contract proposal along with other items as a preliminary budget estimate, sources for volunteer support, local attractions and facilities, tour packages, and events. Touchmark Retirement Community Car Show images submitted by Lee, Todd and Greg a few words by Lee Branum BCA# 2204 notes by jeff schindler BCA# 47629 August 17th 10am-2pm

Enjoy what’s left of our summer. There are still a few good car shows in September. Check out the HASSIE show at Mirabeau Park on Saturday, September 7. Enjoy the photos, our media/photo member wasn’t able to make the Touchmark show. I took it upon myself to get some pics. The red Electra 225 Convertible is our Asst. Chapter Director’s car, Todd Smith. The green ’51 Special is our Chapter Director and wife’s car. The blue ’65 Wildcat belongs to a fellow I made contact with, a possible future member. An image of our ’60 Invicta. The three cars in the next photo are Haynes’ ’64 Wildcat convertible, Grant and Dixie Person’s ’40 Special and the ’51 Special belonging to Lewises. Haynes and their wildcat voted by fellow exhibitors, received “best of show”. Last picture is our Buick bunch chatting with people enjoying the cars, enjoying the company of one another, and simply having a great day! All the Best, Buick Friends, Lee Branum BCA 2204, your humble Treasurer Even though I was unable to attend this years show I do want to personally thank our members who took the time and energy to bring their cars to this very important community event, and I look forward for this becoming and annual event for our group to participate in.

Caught the Buick bug about 30 years ago

photos and story submitted by Bob Cull BCA# 47238

Jeff, I don' t know if writing about myself is a good idea, and I wasn't sure if I should, it's not comfortable, but here are my highlights. If it doesn't work, it won't bother me. I am an OLD (69 years) classic car enthusiast. I caught the Buick bug about 30 years ago when I brought home a 1952 Roadmaster Convertible project. I figured if Mickey Mouse bought a car, that would be it! I did a lot of work on it, but lost interest and the poor old thing sits in my barn. In the late 90's I got involved with the internet and started a Buick page which morphed through Bob's Buicks, Buicks.net, and finally TeamBuick.com. The pages spurred my interest in Buicks. I purchased a '67 GS 4speed car from the original owner in New Harmony, Utah. (https:// www.teambuick.com/community/ index.php?showcase/buick-gs400.2/ ). It runs like a top, but could really use a freshen up. Here is a link to footage taken about 10 years ago by the Igniters of Libby, Montana. https://youtu.be/ rOcgjVQ1qpc

(This years Ignite the Nights- Car Show Cruise was August 16th, www.igniterscarclub.com check your INCCC calendar of events page 31. Get it on your calendar for next year. )

I share a '66 Riviera with my Daughter. We are the second owner of this car too. We got it in Denver, Colorado. https://www.teambuick.com/community/ index.php?showcase/riviera-gs.3/ I put together the motor and transmission on the Riviera and had a friend do the paint and body. It makes a good impression, but is not an overly detailed restoration. This weekend my son, it seems almost certain to be picking up a '72 GS455, a driver level car originally from somewhere in Utah. Definitely not second owner:)

I am "retired", and decided to chase my hobbies. Machining and engines. Go check out my website or you can find us on our Facebook business page. https://www.cull.ca/Â https://www.facebook.com/cullsauto I have honing plates for the Buick 350, 400, 430, 455, and Nailhead. And a backyard with probably 25 parts Buicks, what more could a guy ask for:) I am a bit of a junk collector, though I am trying to break the habit... Some people's junk is nice, mine is junk. If you or anyone else interested in Buicks is up our way, we are 6 miles north of the border and have lots of tires to kick. Now-a-days, passports are required at the border. I have attached a 25 year old picture of my yard. The house is gone to make room for more cars. I could have put off writing this and taken a more current picture tomorrow, but then I would procrastinate some more!

There are a few of my GS400, the Riv, and my yard (good junk:) The old house is gone. Some pictures of cool stuff lying around my shop. The '52 Roadmaster convertible project could be bought by someone, I don't think I will ever get to finishing it.  I have included a picture of my son's GS455. It is a new addition and just a running, driving car that looks ok in a picture.

WILDCAT WANDERING

Jeff Schindler BCA #47629

I highly recommend a trip to Italy, and especially Venice, it is such an incredible city with a rich history, incredible architecture; a mix of so many styles and influences. Oh the food; yes it was all very good. No Buicks, only fiats, VW, toyota, Kia, Audi, it must have something with all those small tight narrow streets, or something like that.

Did you get to any of the 76 lakes within an hours drive of Spokane over the summer? Would love to hear about your family’s summer fun, send in a short story and tell us about it. This is one of my favorite locations to get away from computers, phones, internet, people and we go about twice a year.

I want to thank everyone who submitted images and stories who contributed to this months issue of our clubs newsletter which I like to call Kaleidoscope. Thank you Lee, Greg and Todd for the images from the Touchmark car show, thank you to all our members who attended and got a taste of this wonderful community event. Congratulations to the Haynes on receiving their award for that beautiful 1964 Wildcat, maybe you could submit a little article about the history you have had with this beauty, with a few photos. Thank you Bob Cull for your story and images of the 1966 Riviera, 1967 GS, the 72 GS 455, links to your business website and the services you offer, along with your dedication to building www.TeamBuick.com and all the resources and information it contains. We all look forward to seeing you in the near future, along with one or all of your Buicks. It is so nice to have articles and image/story submissions to choose from when I sit down to assemble our monthly Kaleidoscope, < tonight was 10:30pm-3am> It is your club and this is your opportunity to share who you are and what you have been working on. I look forward to reporting updates on the Stechelin’s 1930 progress while in the hands of Mr. Tilton. I hope each of you has an opportunity to get outside and enjoy the many car shows, gathering and community events that our beautiful region has to offer while the weather is perfect. It is a great time of year for a road trip to any one of the 76 stunning lakes within an hours drive of Spokane. Wondering if anyone has parts, or cars or such for sale or anything they are searching for. would like to include a classified section. Also looking for your contributions for resources for parts and services that many of us would like to be aware of. Something that I am going to add to our website with links to them. If you have resources and/or services you would like to recommend (and tell us what you used them for). would love to start putting that together.
