Effective ways to lower home energy use

Outside factors, such as fuel and equipment costs and extreme weather can impact electricity prices. But you have the power to control your home energy consumption by taking proactive steps to reduce energy use.

THERMOSTAT MANAGEMENT

 The thermostat is one of the best places to lower your energy use because heating and cooling account for a significant portion of home energy consumption. During winter months adjust your thermostat to the lowest comfortable setting to reduce energy use. The Department of Energy recommends 68 degrees or lower.

SEAL YOUR HOME

 Ensure your home has sufficient insulation levels and seal air leaks around windows and doors with caulk and weatherstripping. This is a simple and effective way to lower energy use and improve indoor comfort.

MAINTAIN EQUIPMENT

 The health of your heating and cooling system is essential for comfort and can greatly impact energy bills. Maintain your system by regularly replacing filters and scheduling annual inspections for maintenance and necessary repairs.

The electric grid is a vital piece of our lives by powering homes and businesses, and allowing our communities to thrive. However, aging infrastructure, extreme weather events, and the transition to cleaner energy sources pose significant challenges. At Inland Power we are committed to identifying areas for enhancement and improvement and want to take a moment to share with our members what we have been working on to ensure we provide affordable and reliable power along with the highest quality of service.

RECENT PROJECTS

Capital projects

Our Four Lakes crew successfully completed the installation of four miles of new conductor (power lines). Our crews have also completed a larger work plan which includes reconducters, cable replacements, reclose modernization and pole replacements. All of these improvements will increase reliability to your home or business.

Substation Update

A recent overhaul and upgrade of all connections, hardware and devices was completed at our Hangman Substation. These updates will enhance and improve reliability.

Transformer Recondition

During the arctic blast in January 2024 we identified that the Creston power transformer required reconditioning. Our crews recently overhauled three transformers to ensure the demand can meet the increase in load growth for this service area.

We have many other projects in the works in 2025 and will continue to update and communicate to our valued members the progress we make!
