Clubs & Activities Summer Term 2022 Fun Club (Reception) Children from across the year group come together to choose different toys to explore and play with each week. Creative Writing Club (Year 9-11) The creative writing group, for pupils in years 9-11, offers an opportunity for pupils to explore their imaginations and hone their skills of self-expression. Through various prompts and tasks, pupils can improve their descriptive writing skills in an informal context. Films show a more natural form a language with authentic vocabulary and slang, teaching us to connect words with associated body language. Furthermore, the visual aspect of a film helps to support listening comprehension along with vocabulary recall. Of course, we want to enjoy some ‘palomitas’ and have fun too! www.saintnicholasschool.net

School Production (Year 6-10) This year, the annual school production will be ‘We Will Rock You’ and the performance will be staged in the summer term of 2022. Mindful Colouring (Year 9-11) Colouring in may have been a go to childhood pastime for many but now it is resurfacing as a popular trend for teenagers and young adults. There are many benefits to mindful colouring and it has been proven to be positive for your mental health, reduce anxiety and stress, and promote creativity. Memory Athletes Club (Year 9-11) Many children and adults struggle to remember things at times. Where did I put my keys? What time am I meeting my friends? Who was Henry VIII’s third wife? To us mere mortals, the idea of memorising a whole pack of playing cards or being able to remember the sequence of numbers in Pi to thousands of digits is a superhuman ability. However, these memory athletes all use the same approach - a mind palace. This is the same technique Sherlock Holmes uses to solve crimes. In this club, pupils will learn to create their own mind palace and will compete against each other to see who has the best memory. They will learn a skill that will help them in their examinations and a skill for life. Young Voices (Year 5) Young Voices gives children the opportunity to perform in some of the world’s greatest arenas alongside incredible artists. Being able to do this surrounded by school friends helps www.saintnicholasschool.net

Clubs & Activities Summer Term 2022 build their self-belief and confidence and their ability to communicate as part of a team, which is invaluable. After months of rehearsing, pupils feel a huge sense of achievement and pride in being able to perform at the end and parents are also able to share the experience as part of the audience. The weekly singing rehearsals help to relieve stress, regulate breathing and brings enormous pleasure. It’s no wonder that young Voices is over subscribed year after year. Bee Bots Club (Year 1) Bee Bots Club is a fantastic way for children to understand coding. The children use their coding skills to input directions onto their Bee Bots to make them move to different places. The children have lots of fun moving them around the different mats with different themes. Pupils also have the opportunity to play the Bee Bot game on the iPad and occasionally also try their hand at controlling the Bee Bots from the iPads. Art and Craft Club (Year 3) In the Year 3 art and craft club the children enjoy a variety of different activities. Recent club projects include making dove mobiles, mixed media collage and jigsaws. There is a different focus each week and the children take home their www.saintnicholasschool.net

wonderful pieces of art. Middle School Band (Year 6-8) This a fun group for any instrumentalists in the middle school and offers budding musicians the chance to perform with others. There are three different age groups: - Year 2 - Year 3-5 - Year 6+ Science Clinic (Year 10-11) Struggling with biology or chemistry, want to do some revision, or just need a confidence boost? Then this club is the place to come to. Open to Years 9, 10 and 11 and all abilities welcome. St Nicholas School Clubs, Sports Clubs & Activities | 15
