Highclare School
2019 WINTER ISSUE
Welcome to the winter edition of the Headmaster’s Termly Newsletter
New year, new name!
This exciting enhancement to our brand is a small step in the life of the School but a very significant one because of these reasons: • The use of ‘Highclare Preparatory School’ underscores our one-school approach to delivering a first-class early years and primary education regardless of the setting in which it is delivered. • The use of the word ‘preparatory’ places more emphasis on our status as a truly Independent school. • The new name provides for all stakeholders a greater level of clarity to our purpose as a trusted and successful school. Our school, as a whole, will continue to be known as Highclare School, with the name of the senior section also remaining unchanged, as Highclare Senior School. This, in summary, is what our structure will look like: •Highclare Senior School
We are proud to call our junior school: Highclare Preparatory School. Our two settings are now officially known as:
•Highclare Preparatory School • Highclare Preparatory School: St Paul’s (including Pre-prep) • Highclare Preparatory School: Woodfield (including Pre-prep)
• Highclare Preparatory School: Woodfield
Our respected and recognisable school badge and motto will not be changing. More substantially, neither will our steadfast commitment towards educating the boys and girls in a manner that allows them to fulfil their potential, in a safe, healthy and nurturing environment.
Our pre-schools in both locations have changed their names also, to become pre-prep.
With best wishes for a successful spring term. Dr R Luker - Headmaster

Highclare Business Network: A Superb Inaugural Event During a superb inaugural event: An audience with Paul Faulkner, CEO of Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and Douglas Wright, CEO of Wright Restaurants and chairman of the board of directors at Ronald McDonald House, Birmingham, attendees from a variety of industries heard first-hand many fascinating experiences from Paul and Douglas’ career in an honest and insightful question and answer session. In the relaxed environment both speakers divulged remarkable facts about their career journeys, followed by an opportunity for attendees to ask questions, network and catch up over good food, supplied by the event sponsors Mahirs Experience. With no stone unturned, questions regarding developments happening within Birmingham, Paul’s career with Randy Lerner leading to his position of CEO at Aston Villa and Douglas’ business journey, including winning the McDonald’s world franchisee award in 2016, the significance of business mentors and the importance of giving back to the community, left the audience with plenty of food for thought. During the evening Mr Chris Williams also addressed attendees on the work of the Buddy Bag Foundation, a charity Highclare School has recently championed. The Network event was free of charge and attendees kindly donated £430 to the Buddy Bag Foundation, which will directly help children who find themselves in emergency care.
Douglas Wright concluded the Q&A session by congratulating Highclare School on the calibre of its pupils. “Great kids with a great future ahead of them. Dr Luker and the school’s ethos have made the school a facilitator of success.” It was a fantastic evening and we look forward to the next Highclare Business Network Event in February.
