ACADEMIC Sixth Form is the foundation on which each individual builds their future – students are encouraged to spread their wings, make decisions and take responsibility for their learning and development. Most students choose to study three subjects in the Lower Sixth and an EPQ, whilst others take advantage of our flexible approach, creating a personalised programme to suit their strengths and ambitions. Academic excellence is achieved through high expectations, strong motivation, excellent teaching and small classes. We are consistently one of the top performing Sixth Forms in Sussex for A Level results. Lower Sixth Formers also take the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), an opportunity to research a subject of their choosing in depth. Most recently 95% of students were awarded an A or A*, and 60% an A*.

STUDENT INTERVIEW
“There is always someone to laugh with or to encourage you to get that piece of work done.”
LUELLA | YEAR 13 TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
WHAT’S YOUR PASSION?
My name is Luella, I am Head Girl and in the Upper Sixth.
I love the theatre. Being able to take part in a professional production, as well as being able to take on crew roles in other performances, has really helped me to expand my knowledge and abilities in theatre, and as a result love it even more.
WHAT IS LIFE IN THE SIXTH FORM LIKE? Buzzing with activity! There is always someone to laugh with or to encourage you to get that piece of work done, and it’s great having that special community within a community. Enter the common room or kitchen and you will find girls laughing and chatting with a mug of tea or a slice of toast; but enter a classroom or study room and you will find teachers encouraging students to go further and reach their full potential.
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT? Though I have always loved performing I have struggled to translate this into public speaking and debating. The teachers at Burgess Hill Girls have helped me to find my voice and become more confident in myself and my opinions. 7

BOLD PROGRAMME LEFT LEADERSHIP TRIP TO WALES BELOW SUMMER CONCERT
The BOLD programme is focused around four key themes; BEYOND – super-curricular activities including reading and research, work experience and immersive opportunities such as a week-long residential trip in Washington DC. OPPORTUNITIES – comprehensive UCAS training, University visits, course research and visiting speakers. LEADERSHIP – hands on leadership training including a residential trip in Wales at the start of Sixth Form. DEVELOPMENT – personal improvement through community service, extra-curricular activities and VIVAs. It is no coincidence that when students leave us and go on to greater things, they do not become Old Girls, they become Bold Girls.

TOMORROW’S WOMEN
TOMORROW’S WOMEN Complex problem solving, critical thinking, creativity and people management are the key skills that tomorrow’s women will need to succeed in the future. It is our duty to ensure our students develop these skills. It is also our duty to help them set future goals and map out the steps to achieve them. Every Sixth Form student is guided by our Higher Education team; the Head of Sixth Form, Deputy Head of Sixth Form and the experienced tutor team. Whilst some elect to join School Leaver Programmes, such as those offered by KMPG and GSK, for most, the next step is University. We offer one-to-one sessions to ensure students are aware of all the opportunities available and help them choose and successfully apply for the course and University that suits them. Almost all students gain places at their first choice. We also offer a rich programme of hands-on experiences where students can get a taste for future careers including; work placements, flight stimulator training, national business competitions, networking events, and magazine editing. Students also put on their own annual conference for ambitious young women in Sussex, ‘Tomorrow’s Women’.
