“The teachers are very good at encouraging you to try new things, to believe in yourself and be the best you can be.”

ALICE | YEAR 9 TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF My name is Alice, I am 13. I started in Year 6 and am now in Year 9.

discover my love of English and the Sciences. The teachers make them really interesting.

WHAT IS LIFE IN THE SENIOR SCHOOL LIKE?

WHO INSPIRES YOU?

Starting Senior School can be challenging, but everyone is so friendly and caring that they quickly help you overcome any worries. The teachers are very good at encouraging you to try new things, to believe in yourself and be the best you can be. I love all of the charity events, especially the Colour Run which involves all the girls in the Senior School.

We often do projects where we learn about inspirational women in history. I truly admire Irena Sendler. She was a hero who saved many children from their deaths in Nazi Germany. She encouraged people to stand up for what they believe in and accomplish things they thought they couldn’t. WHAT ARE YOUR ASPIRATIONS IN THE FUTURE?

WHAT ARE YOUR PASSIONS?

I would love to be a doctor so I can help others.

I have always loved Drama and Art but being at Burgess Hill Girls has helped me

YEARS 9 -11 Year 9 is a foundation year in which you can devote more time to exploring the option subjects you have chosen without sacrificing the space and time to enrich your wider curriculum. This solid foundation will benefit you for the remainder of your school years and beyond. GCSE learning begins in earnest in Year 10 and accelerates in Year 11. You will be given more independence and learn how to guide your own learning. Our approach to learning is validated via exceptional results. We are one of the top performing schools for GCSE results in Sussex. CO-CURRICULAR Our emphasis on exploration at the start of Senior School is a consistent theme for our co-curricular programme. In sports we believe in participation for all, so there is a diverse mix available for girls to discover the sport for them. There are multiple sports teams in each year group. Fixtures are during the week, giving girls valuable time to play for clubs at the weekend. Many also represent Sussex. In addition to the extensive Arts curriculum there are multiple arts clubs and groups encompassing drama, choir, glee and a variety of musical groups. There are many other clubs too; debating, law society, French films, to name just a few. Always popular with the girls are our UK and overseas trips, recent examples including outbound in Wales, climbing in Nepal, Broadway in New York and variety of Sports tours and ski trips.
