Los beneficios de la sostenibilidad

or qué escuchamos a menudo que la sostenibilidad tiene un coste? La experiencia que estamos teniendo en Arabella desde hace muchos años demuestra precisamente lo contrario: el tremendo valor que gestionar bajo criterios ESG aporta a cualquier actividad. Al tener en cuenta criterios sociales y medioambientales dentro de cualquier estrategia, estamos considerando no solo aspectos ecológicos, sino también aquellos que tienen que ver con las personas y los resultados. Eso que los anglosajones llaman la triple bottom line (People, Planet, Profit). Es decir, que además de tomar decisiones lógicamente basadas en calidad del producto y servicio ofrecido, su coste de producción, promoción, etc., también atendemos al impacto que tendrá en las personas y en el entorno que nos rodea. Acciones que repercutan en la calidad de vida, formación, bienestar o igualdad de nuestros trabajadores nos hacen una empresa mejor, generan tanto motivación como compromiso, y propagan prosperidad en nuestro entorno cercano. Y, evidentemente, tener en cuenta aspectos medioambientales respeta y contribuye a mejorar nuestro entorno natural, lo hace mucho más agradable, cuidado y sobre todo, protegido. Vuelvo a la pregunta del principio. Hay que enfocarse en el valor que generan los aspectos sociales y medioambientales y su enfoque circular, no pensar en términos de coste. Integrar siempre a las personas y al entorno en el gobierno de una empresa supone infinidad de beneficios: provee de un marco analítico a los procesos, estimula la innovación y el crecimiento, genera transversalidades entre sectores locales, mejora la productividad y, desde luego, mejora resultados al apostar por el uso eficiente de recursos, como por ejemplo hacemos aquí utilizando agua regenerada, adquiriendo electricidad proveniente únicamente de energías renovables, eliminando plásticos y materiales de un solo uso, y aprovechando nuestros residuos de materia orgánica para convertirlos en recurso. Todo ello mejora el Planeta, mejora a las Personas y, si lo hacemos bien, también mejora el Valor del negocio. En Arabella Golf estamos plenamente comprometidos con la Agenda 2030 mediante nuestro programa Green Evolution. HE BENEFITS OF SUSTAINABILITY. Why is it we so often hear that sustainability comes at a cost? Our experience at Arabella for many years now proves precisely the opposite: the tremendous value that managing under ESG criteria contributes to any activity. In taking social and environmental criteria into account within any strategy, we consider not only ecological aspects, but also those related to people and results. What is called the triple bottom line (People, Planet, Profit). This means that, as well as making decisions logically, based on the quality of the product and service offered, the cost of its production, promotion, etc., we also pay attention to the impact it will have on the people and environment around us. Actions that have repercussions on the quality of life, training, wellbeing or equality of our workers, generate both motivation and commitment and spread prosperity in our immediate vicinity. And obviously, taking environmental issues on board respects and contributes to improving our natural surroundings, making it much more agreeable, well-kept and above all, protected. I return to the question at the top. We need to centre on the value generated by the social and environmental aspects and their circular focus, not think in terms of cost. Integrating people and the surroundings into the governance of a company at all times brings a host of benefits: it provides an analytical framework for processes, it stimulates innovation and growth, it gives rise to transversalities among local sectors, it improves productivity and naturally, it improves results, by committing to the efficient use of resources, as we are doing here, for example, when we use regenerated water, acquire electricity that comes solely from renewable sources, elimi-

All of this improves the planet, improves people and, if we do it right, it also improves business value. Ilusiones renovadas

stimado golfista: Espero que se encuentre bien y con salud. Han pasado casi dos años desde la última edición de la revista de Arabella Golf Mallorca y, con mucha ilusión, le presentamos el nuevo número con cuantiosas novedades. A pesar de las circunstancias, nuestra ilusión y compromiso por ofrecer el mejor servicio y unas instalaciones impecables se ha mantenido durante todo este tiempo. Por ello, es una satisfacción informarle de las muchas y variadas acciones realizadas. Entre ellas, me gustaría destacar los siguientes proyectos: En Golf Son Muntaner hemos renovado por completo los bunkers, reformado zonas de drenaje en tres hoyos y sembrado más de ciento cincuenta olivos, además de desarrollar un nuevo concepto gastronómico basado en los productos saludables y de km0. El nuevo restaurante se llama Na Capitana, como nuestro olivo milenario (puede leer sobre ello en páginas interiores de la revista). En Golf Son Vida hemos adquirido una nueva flota de buggies, hemos cambiado el sistema de riego del campo, y hemos finalizado la renovación de los bunkers iniciada en 2019. En Golf Son Quint se han renovado los greens de los hoyos siete y catorce, hemos remodelado los caminos, y también se ha actualizado el concepto culinario del restaurante, especializándose en deliciosos arroces mediterráneos. En cuanto a sostenibilidad, seguimos ejecutando acciones de nuestro programa Green Evolution. Por ese motivo, hemos renovado las certificaciones ISO 14.001, además de obtener, por primera vez, las certificaciones EMAS para todos nuestros campos de golf. Asimismo, el Ministerio de Transición Ecológica nos ha concedido el sello CALCULO+REDUZCO por reducir por cuarto año consecutivo nuestras emisiones de CO2. De cara a futuro tenemos proyectadas nuevas mejoras que esperemos sean de su agrado, y que podrá disfrutar cuando nos visite. Por último, me gustaría tener unas palabras de agradecimiento para el equipo humano de Arabella Golf Mallorca en estos tiempos que no han sido sencillos. Y también destacar el apoyo que recibimos de nuestros proveedores, de nuestra propiedad y, por supuesto, de nuestros clientes, que día a día nos demuestran su confianza en nuestro trabajo. Gracias a gente como usted seguimos adelante con más ilusión si cabe. Esperamos verle pronto de nuevo en nuestros campos. Es un placer formar parte de sus buenos recuerdos.

ENEWED ENTHUSIASM. Dear Golfer, I hope this finds you well, and in good health. Nearly two years have passed since Arabella Golf Mallorca magazine was last published, and it is with great anticipation that we present you with the newest issue, packed with novelties. In spite of the circumstances, our enthusiasm and commitment to offering the best service, coupled with impeccable installations, have held fast throughout this entire period. Which is why it is immensely satisfying to be able to inform you of the many and varied actions undertaken, of which I like to highlight the following projects: At Golf Son Muntaner we have given the bunkers a complete overhaul, renovated drainage areas on three holes and planted more than one hundred and fifty olive trees, as well as developing a new gastronomy concept based on healthy, local produce. The new restaurant is named Na Capitana, after our ancient olive tree (which you can read about in the magazine). At Golf Son Vida we have acquired a new fleet of buggies, changed the watering system on the course, and completed the renovation of the bunkers that began in 2019. At Golf Son Quint the greens of holes seven and fourteen have been renewed, we have restructured the pathways, and the restaurant’s culinary concept has been updated, now specialising in delicious Mediterranean rice dishes. As for sustainability, we continue to implement actions as part of our Green Evolution programme. For this reason, we have renewed our ISO 14.001 certifications and, moreover, for the first time we have obtained EMAS certificates for all of our golf courses. In addition, the Ministry for Ecological Transition has awarded us the CALCULATE+REDUCE seal for reducing our CO2 emissions for the fourth consecutive year. Looking to the future, we are planning new improvements which we hope will be to your liking, and which you will be able to enjoy on future visits.

OFFNUNGSVOLLE FREUDE. Sehr geehrte Golfspielerinnen und Golfspieler, ich hoffe, dass es Ihnen gut geht, und dass Sie sich bester Gesundheit erfreuen. Seit dem Erscheinen der letzten Ausgabe unseres Magazins Arabella Golf Mallorca sind fast zwei Jahre vergangen. Umso mehr freuen wir uns, Ihnen heute die neueste Ausgabe mit vielen interessanten Neuigkeiten zu präsentieren. Allen Umständen zum Trotz haben wir unser Versprechen, Ihnen während dieser Zeit weiterhin besten Service und einwandfreie Einrichtungen zu bieten, gehalten. Es ist mir ein ganz besonderes Vergnügen, Ihnen die vielen und vielfältigen Maßnahmen vorzustellen, die wir umgesetzt haben. Gerne möchte ich Ihre Aufmerksamkeit vor allem auf die folgenden Projekte lenken: Auf dem Golfplatz Son Muntaner haben wir alle Bunker vollständig renoviert, das Drainagesystem im Bereich dreier Löcher erneuert und über 150 Olivenbäume gepflanzt. Des weiteren haben wir ein neues Gastronomiekonzept auf der Basis von gesunden, lokalen Produkten nach dem Null-Kilometer-Prinzip entwickelt. Das neue Restaurant, über das Sie auf den folgenden Seiten mehr lesen können, ist nach unserem tausendjährigen Olivenbaum Na Capitana benannt. Auf dem Golfplatz Son Vida steht Ihnen ab sofort eine nagelneue Buggyflotte zur Verfügung. Außerdem wurde das Bewässerungssystem des Golfplatzes modernisiert und die 2019 begonnene Renovierung der Bunker abgeschlossen. Auf dem Golfplatz Son Quint wurden die Greens der Löcher 7 und 14 erneuert, die Fairways neu gestaltet, und das gastronomische Angebot des auf mediterrane Reisgerichte spezialisierten Restaurants aktualisiert. Im Bereich Nachhaltigkeit setzen wir weiter auf unser Green Evolution-Programm und haben konsequenterweise die Zertifizierung nach ISO 14001 erneuert. Außerdem wurden alle unsere Golfplätze erstmals mit dem EMAS-Umweltzertifikat ausgezeichnet, und das Ministerio de Transición Ecológica (Umweltministerium) hat uns das Siegel CALCULO+REDUZCO verliehen, weil wir im vierten Jahr in Folge unsere CO2-Emissionen gesenkt haben. Für die Zukunft sind weitere Verbesserungen geplant, die Ihren Aufenthalt bei uns hoffentlich noch angenehmer gestalten werden. Abschließend möchte ich den Mitarbeitern von Arabella Golf Mallorca für Ihr Engagement in diesen schwierigen Zeiten meinen herzlichsten Dank aussprechen. Großer Dank gebührt auch unseren Lieferanten, Eigentümern und natürlich unseren Gästen, deren Unterstützung uns tagtäglich ihr Vertrauen in unsere Arbeit bestätigt. ¿Saldrá el próximo Jon Rahm de Golf Son Muntaner?

ntre el 5 y el 8 de diciembre, Golf Son Muntaner acoge por primera vez la prestigiosa Copa Baleares, competición amateur que forma parte del World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), Ranking Absoluto y Sub18 masculino de la Real Federación Española de Golf (RFEG). El torneo cuenta con los mejores jugadores nacionales y algunos de los mejores internacionales. Destacar que el gran golfista español Jon Rahm ganó la primera edición de esta copa en 2011. ¿Quién sabe si el vencedor de la presente edición será también un futuro número uno? El ganador de la última edición, celebrada en febrero de 2021, fue Jaime Montojo, con una tarjeta de 6 golpes bajo par. El mejor jugador balear fue Joan Tous, con 6 golpes sobre par. Las personas que visiten Golf Son Muntaner en los días previos a la competición podrán observar los trabajos de preparación del campo para que esté en perfectas condiciones. Verán que el rough está más alto, y que en algunas zonas se ha dejado de cortar. Además, algunas calles se han estrechado para conseguir un campo 100% competitivo.

ILL THE NEXT JON RAHM COME FROM GOLF SON MUNTANER? From 5th to 8th December, for the first time Golf Son Muntaner hosts the prestigious Copa Baleares, an amateur competition that forms part of the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), Absolute Ranking and Boys U-18s of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation (RFEG). The tournament features the best national players and some of the top international names. It is interesting to note that the great Spanish golfer Jon Rahm was the winner the first time this cup was played in 2011. Who knows, maybe the winner of this year’s tournament will also be a future number one.

The winner of last year’s contest, held in February 2021, was Jaime Montojo, with a card of 6 strokes under par. The best Balearic player was Joan Tous, with 6 strokes under par. People who visit Golf Son Muntaner on the days leading up to the competition will be able to see the preparatory work taking place on the course, to ensure it is in a perfect condition. They will see that the rough is higher, and in some areas has not been cut. Some of the fairways have also been narrowed to achieve a course that is 100% competitive.

Zum Turnier werden die besten Nationalspieler sowie einige der besten internationalen Spieler erwartet. In diesem Zusammenhang ist unbedingt zu erwähnen, dass der große spanische Golfer Jon Rahm 2011 die erste Ausgabe dieses Pokals gewonnen hat. Wer weiß – vielleicht wird der diesjährige Sieger auch einmal Weltranglistenerster? Der Sieger des letzten Turniers im Februar 2021 war Jaime Montojo mit einem Gesamtscore von 6 unter Par; der beste balearische Spieler war Joan Tous mit 6 Schlägen über Par. Besucher des Golfplatzes Son Muntaner können in den Tagen vor dem Turnier die Vorbereitungsarbeiten des Platzes für das Event mitverfolgen. Das Rough wird höher sein, es wurde teilweise nicht geschnitten; außerdem werden einige Fairways schmäler, um einen einwandfrei wettbewerbsfähigen Platz zu präsentieren.

“Los 3 campos de Arabella son muy variados y atractivos”

uándo empezó a jugar a golf, y qué es lo que más le gusta de este deporte? Empecé a jugar en 1996. Siempre pensaba que el golf era muy fácil, pero rápidamente me di cuenta de lo contrario. Cuando juegas a golf tienes que estar muy concentrado y no puedes tener la mente ocupada con otras cosas. ¿Qué le parecen los campos de Arabella Golf Mallorca, y sus instalaciones? Los tres campos, Son Muntaner, Son Vida y Son Quint, son muy diferentes, de ahí que resulte tan variado y atractivo jugar en ellos. Los tres restaurantes de los clubes invitan a descansar, tomar algo y, sobre todo, resarcirse con unas tapas después de jugar. ¿Qué le ha llevado a hacerse miembro del Arabella Golf Mallorca? La posibilidad de poder jugar durante todo el año en tres campos de golf en el entorno de Son Vida. ¿Qué significa para usted haber sido presidente de un equipo tan importante e histórico como el Bayern de Munich? Para mi fue un gran honor ser elegido presidente por los miembros de nuestro club en mayo de 2014. Desde el principio tuve claro que solo ejerciría este cargo hasta que se celebrara la junta general anual de noviembre de 2016. Ahora ha llegado el momento de seguir deseándole suerte al club como socio de honor y también de tener más tiempo para disfrutar de la vida. ¿Qué tienen en común para usted el futbol y el golf, y en qué se diferencian? En ambos deportes todo gira alrededor de una bola. El futbol es un deporte de equipo, el golf es un deporte individual. En el futbol te atacan los jugadores del equipo rival. En el golf no te atacan y tú eres el único responsable de tu juego. ¿Qué es lo que más le gusta de Mallorca? Poder volar de Múnich a Mallorca varias veces al día en apenas dos horas, y disfrutar rápidamente del clima y de la comida meditarráneos.

When did you start playing golf, and what do you like most about this sport? I began playing in 1996. I always thought golf was very easy, but I quickly realised the opposite was true. When you play golf you have to be very focussed, and you can’t have your mind preoccupied with other things. What do you think of the courses and installations of Arabella Golf Mallorca? The three courses, Son Muntaner, Son Vida and Son Quint, are very different, which is why playing on them is such a varied and attractive experience. The three club restaurants invite you to rest, have something to drink and above all, restore yourself with some tapas after playing. What led you to become a member of Arabella Golf Mallorca? The opportunity to play on three golf courses near Son Vida all year long. What does it mean for you to have been president of an important, historic club like Bayern München? For me, it was a great honour to be elected president by the mem-

bers of our club in May of 2014. Ever since the beginning I was adamant that I would only hold the post until the annual general meeting of November 2016 took place. Now the time has come to carry on wishing the club all the best as an honorary member, and also to have more time to enjoy life. What do football and golf have in common for you, and how are they different from one another? In both sports, everything revolves around a ball. Football is a team sport, golf is an individual sport. In football you are attacked by the players of the opposing team. In golf you aren’t attacked, and you alone are responsible for your game. What do you like the most about Mallorca? Being able to fly in from Munich to Mallorca several times a day in just two hours, and quickly enjoy the Mediterranean climate and food.

Die Möglichkeit auf drei Golfplätzen ganzjährig innerhalb von Son Vida zu spielen. Was bedeutet es für Sie Präsident einer so wichtigen und historischen Mannschaft wie dem FC Bayern gewesen zu sein? Es war eine große Ehre für mich, im Mai 2014 von den Mitgliedern unseres Clubs zum Präsidenten gewählt zu werden. Für mich war von Anfang an klar, dass ich dieses Amt nur bis zur Jahreshauptversammlung im November 2016 ausüben werde. Was haben für Sie Fußball und Golf gemeinsam und wie unterscheiden sich die beiden Sportarten? Bei beiden Sportarten steht der Ball im Mittelpunkt. Fußball ist Mannschaftssport, Golf ist Einzelsport. Beim Fußball attackieren Dich die Spieler der gegnerischen Mannschaft. Beim Golfen wirst Du nicht attackiert und bist ganz allein für Dein Spiel verantwortlich. Was gefällt Ihnen an Mallorca am besten? Von München ist Mallorca mehrmals täglich in nur knapp zwei Flugstunden erreichbar und man kann schnell das mediterrane Klima und Essen genießen.

Nuevos bunkers realizados con método Better Billy Bunker

n Golf Son Muntaner damos nuevos pasos para seguir formando parte de la élite de los mejores campos de golf de Europa. En este sentido, recientemente hemos construido los nuevos bunkers con el método Better Billy Bunker, la mejor forma de construcción disponible en el mercado. Este sistema proporciona un aumento en la capacidad de drenaje, permitiendo que el agua fluya a las áreas de desagüe más rapidamente, y que se mantengan jugables independientemente del factor meteorológico. Además reduce las escorrentías y elimina la contaminación por sales. Además, se ha aportado nueva arena de sílice para bunkers certificada por la Asociación de Golf de Estados Unidos. En 2019 y 2020 se restauraron con este sistema los bunkers del Golf Son Vida. EW BETTER BILLY BUNKERS. At Golf Son Muntaner, we are taking further steps to stay within the elite group of the best golf courses in Europe. With this aim, we recently constructed our new bunkers using the Better Billy Bunker method, the best construction technique available on the market. The system increases drainage capacity, enabling the water to flow towards the drainage areas more quickly, keeping the bunkers playable regardless of the weather factor. It also reduces runoff

and eliminates salt contamination, with the addition of new silica sand for bunkers certified by the United States Golf Association. Dazu wurden kürzlich neue Bunker nach der Methode Better Billy Bunker gebaut, der derzeit besten Bunkerbauweise der Welt. Das System optimiert die Drainagekapazität und führt Wasser schneller zu den Drainagen ab. So bleiben die Bunker witterungsunabhängig bespielbar. Mónaco en Son Vida

l Príncipe Rainiero de Mónaco fue el encargado de dar el golpe inaugural de Golf Son Vida en 1964. El soberano monegasco hizo el recorrido completo del campo, que entonces contaba con 9 hoyos, quedando muy satisfecho del recorrido. Hace escasos meses, el Castillo Hotel Son Vida ha tenido el honor de recibir a su hijo y sucesor, el Príncipe Alberto de Mónaco.

ONACO AT SON VIDA. In 1964, Prince Rainier of Monaco took the inaugural stroke at Golf Son Vida. Monaco’s sovereign played a full round on the course, which had 9 holes at the time, and was reportedly extremely satisfied with it. A few months ago, Castillo Hotel Son Vida had the honour of welcoming his son and successor, Prince Albert of Monaco.

“En Arabella Golf no hay nada imposible”

uándo empezaste a trabajar en Arabella, y por qué te atraía la empresa? Empecé a trabajar en Arabella en abril de 2019. Hacía un par de años que jugaba a golf y era un mundo que me atraía cada vez más, así que decidí orientar mi carrera hacia el mundo del golf y en poco tiempo tuve la oportunidad de unirme al equipo de Arabella. ¿Cuál es tu cargo, y en qué consiste tu trabajo? Mi posición es la de Revenue Manager, que consiste en optimizar las ventas de cara a generar el mayor ingreso y rentabilidad posible dentro de la empresa. Además, me encargo de coordinar al equipo de reservas. ¿Y qué es lo que más valoras de Arabella? Que es una empresa líder en el sector del golf. Siempre estamos abordando nuevos proyectos punteros para mejorar la operativa y la experiencia del cliente en los campos, sin dejar nunca de lado la sostenibilidad y el medio ambiente. En Arabella no hay nada imposible. Habéis implementado un nuevo programa en la empresa, Golf Manager, ¿En qué consiste? Golf Manager viene a ser un poco el cerebro de nuestra operativa, ya que es el software de gestión de nuestros campos. Todas las operaciones de los diferentes departamentos se canalizan a través del programa. También te dedicas a la música en tu tiempo libre. ¿Hay similitudes entre la música y el golf? En la música y el deporte, aunque no lo parezca, hay similitudes. Al tocar en directo, siempre surgen esos nervios y hay que aprender a gestionar la presión exactamente igual que cuando estás compitiendo en un torneo de golf. Por otro lado, al tocar una banda, se trabaja y se gestiona todo en equipo igual que en campeonatos de golf por equipos. ¿Cuál es el mejor consejo que te han dado en la vida? Siempre será mejor lamentarse por haber fallado, a lamentarse por nunca haberlo intentado.

I had started playing golf a couple of years earlier, and it was a world I felt increasingly drawn to, so I decided to steer my career towards the world of golf and shortly afterwards, I had the opportunity to join the Arabella team. What is your post, and what does your work consist of? My post is that of Revenue Manager, which consists in optimizing sales with the aim of generating the maximum possible income and profitability within the company. I am also in charge of coordinating the reservations team. And which aspect of Arabella do you rate the most highly? The fact that the company is a leader in the golf sector. We are always taking on new, pioneering projects to improve operations and customer experience on the courses, without ever forfeiting sustainability and the environment. Nothing is impossible at Arabella.

You have implemented a new programme in the company, Golf Manager. What does it entail? Golf Manager is rather like the brain of our operations, as it is the management software of our courses. All the operations of the different departments are channelled through the programme. You also devote yourself to music in your free time. Are there similarities between music and golf? It may not seem like it, but music and sport have similar features. Playing live, you always get nervous and you have to learn how to manage pressure, just as you do when you are competing in a golf tournament. And equally, when you play in a band, you work and manage everything as a team, like in golf championships where teams compete. What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given? It’s always better to regret having failed than to regret never having tried something.

NMÖGLICH‘ GIBT ES NICHT BEI ARABELLA GOLF“. Wann haben Sie bei Arabella angefangen, und warum ist das Unternehmen für Sie interessant? Ich habe meine Stelle bei Arabella im April 2019 angetreten. Zuvor hatte ich schon ein paar Jahre Golf gespielt und festgestellt, dass mich dieser Sport immer mehr fasziniert. Also beschloss ich, mich auch beruflich in diese Richtung zu orientieren, und kurz darauf wurde mir die Stelle bei Arabella angeboten. Welche Position und welche Aufgaben haben Sie konkret? Meine Position ist die des Revenue Manager, d.h., ich bin für die Verkaufsoptimierung zuständig, um den für das Unternehmen größtmöglichen Umsatz und die beste Rendite zu erzielen. Zusätzlich dazu obliegt mir die Koordination des Reservierungsteams. Und was schätzen Sie an Arabella am meisten? Dass wir zu den führenden Unternehmen der Golfbranche zählen. Immer wieder starten wir neue, zukunftsweisende Projekte mit dem Ziel der Betriebsoptimierung und der Verbesserung des Kundenerlebnisses auf den Golfplätzen. Dabei achten wir jedoch immer auch auf Nachhaltigkeit und Schonung der Umwelt. Das Wort „unmöglich“ gibt es nicht bei Arabella. Sie haben ein neues Programm im Unternehmen eingeführt, den „Golf Manager“. Was ist das genau? Der „Golf Manager“ ist quasi das Gehirn unseres Betriebs: eine Software zur Verwaltung unserer Golfplätze. Das Programm bündelt alle Aktivitäten der verschiedenen Abteilungen. In Ihrer Freizeit machen Sie auch Musik. Gibt es Ähnlichkeiten zwischen Musik und Golf? Auch wenn es vielleicht schwer vorstellbar ist: Ja, es gibt durchaus Ähnlichkeiten zwischen Musik und Golf. Bei Liveauftritten ist man immer nervös und muss lernen, sich zu beherrschen. Genauso ist es bei einem Golfturnier. Und auch eine Band spielt als Team – ebenso wie Golfer bei Turnieren. Wie lautet der beste Rat, den Sie je erhalten haben? Es ist immer besser, ein Scheitern zu beklagen, als bedauern zu müssen, dass man nie einen Versuch gewagt hat.

tijn Oyen, de nacionalidad belga, ocupa desde el pasado 1 de septiembre el puesto de director general del complejo hotelero que Marriott International gestiona en Mallorca. ¿Qué valoración hace de sus primeros meses en Mallorca? Tanto mi familia como yo estamos encantados, nos gusta mucho lo que hemos podido descubrir hasta el momento de Mallorca. Palma es una maravilla de ciudad, así como Sóller o Deià. En el aspecto profesional, contamos con tres hoteles increíbles y cuatro campos de golf fantásticos. Siento la alegría tanto del equipo como de nuestros huéspedes, y eso es muy motivador. Usted cuenta con una trayectoria de más de 20 años de experiencia vinculada al sector hotelero. Entre ellos, los cuatro últimos como director general del W Barcelona. ¿Qué es lo que mas le sedujo para aceptar esta oferta en Mallorca? Me atrajo mucho la diversidad, estar al frente de tres hoteles de tres marcas distintas, con una propiedad muy activa que siempre busca mejorar. Antes ya había trabajado en resorts, y me gusta especialmente el contacto con las personas, no solo con el equipo, sino con los huéspedes. ¿Qué importancia tienen los cuatro campos de golf dentro del resort? El golf es fundamental para nuestros tres hoteles. Contamos con cuatro campos fantásticos, de altísimo nivel. Y se nota que la gente tiene muchas ganas de practicar su deporte favorito. Nuestros campos y nuestros hoteles se complementan a la perfección. También vemos como muchos clientes residentes juegan a golf, luego conocen los hoteles y deciden quedarse a pasar una o varias noches. Creo que es importante que los hoteles conecten con los residentes, porque a veces la percepción es que solo son para la gente de fuera, y no es así.

UR CONNECTION WITH RESIDENTS IS IMPORTANT”. Since 1st September Stijn Oyen, a Belgian national, has held the post of General Manager of the hotel complex, Marriott International operates in Mallorca. What appraisal would you make of your first few months on Mallorca? Both my family and I are delighted, we really like what we have been able to see of Mallorca so far. Palma as a city is wonderful, as are Sóller and Deià. Professionally speaking, we have three incredible hotels and four fantastic golf courses here. I can feel the joy of both the team and our guests, and that is very encouraging. Your career consists of more than 20 years of experience related to the hotel sector. That includes the last four years as General Manager of the W Barcelona. What was it that you found most enticing about accepting this offer in Mallorca? I was drawn to the diversity, to being in charge of three hotels from three

different brands, with very active owners who are always trying to improve. I have worked in resorts in the past, and I particularly like the contact with people – not just the team, but with the guests as well. How important are the resort’s four golf courses? Golf is fundamental for our three hotels. We have four fantastic courses, of an extremely high level. And it’s clear that people are very eager to practise their favourite sport. Our courses and our hotels complement each other perfectly. We also see many resident guests who play golf, and then discover the hotels and decide to spend one or several nights in them. I believe it is important for the hotels to connect with the residents of the island, because sometimes the perception is that they are only for people from outside, and that is not the case.

Palma ist eine wunderschöne Stadt, und auch Sóller und Deià sind bezaubernd. In beruflicher Hinsicht haben wir drei hervorragende Hotels und vier fantastische Golfplätze. Den Enthusiasmus unserer Mitarbeiter spüre ich genauso deutlich wie die Begeisterung unserer Gäste – das ist sehr motivierend. Sie blicken auf über 20 Jahre Erfahrung in der Hotelbranche zurück. In den letzten vier Jahren waren Sie General Manager des Hotels W in Barcelona. Was hat für Sie den Ausschlag gegeben, das Angebot auf Mallorca anzunehmen? Mich hat vor allem die Aussicht gereizt, drei so verschiedene Häuser zu leiten, in denen aktiv ein kontinuierlicher Verbesserungsprozess gelebt wird. Ich habe schon früher in Resorts gearbeitet und liebe den Kontakt mit Menschen, nicht nur mit unseren Mitarbeitern, sondern auch mit unseren Gästen. Welche Rolle spielen die vier Golfplätze für das Resort? Golf ist für unsere drei Hotels von grundlegender Bedeutung. Wir haben vier fantastische Golfplätze auf höchstem Niveau. Man sieht deutlich, wie begeistert die Menschen ihren Lieblingssport ausüben. Unsere Golfplätze und unsere Hotels ergänzen einander perfekt. Außerdem haben wir festgestellt, dass viele Residenten, die bei uns Golf spielen, eine oder mehrere Nächte in unseren Hotels verbringen, nachdem sie sie gesehen haben. Ich halte es für sehr wichtig, auch für Residenten attraktiv zu sein, denn manchmal scheint es, als stünden unsere Hotels nur auswärtigen Besuchern offen – dabei ist das keineswegs der Fall.

Proyecto pionero de Economía Circular
