FOTOWEEK CENTRAL BRINGS PHOTOGRAPHY TO THE DC COMMUNITY New Space Will Feature All Things Photography Washington, DC [October 20, 2011]- FotoDC is excited to have FotoWeek Central as the hub of photography programming for the FotoWeek DC festival, including the launch party, exhibits, workshops, FotoBooks, and lectures. This 50,000 square foot space was generously donated by Somerset Partners LLC and was the former home of Borders books. The following is an overview of programming taking place at FotoWeek Central: Launch Party
Friday, November 4 Celebrating the fourth year of the FotoWeek DC Festival, this high-octane evening is sure to put everyone in a photography state of mind. Beginning at 5:00pm, guests can enjoy cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and an exclusive preview of FotoWeek Central’s exhibitions. At 8:30pm the party continues to the Corcoran Gallery of Art with DJ Fatback, projections, and FotoBooths. One ticket provides entrance into both parties and can be purchased here. Saturday, November 4 – Saturday, November 12 With 50,000 square feet of space, FotoWeek Central will be hosting 14 exhibits from some of the best photographers in the world. The shows will include: World Press Photo Exhibition 2011; FotoWeek DC 2nd Annual International Awards Competition Winners; International League of Conservation Photographers-RAVE Retrospective; Flash Forward 2011 from the Magenta Foundation; Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting-Beyond Witness; FotoWeek DC Thumbnail Show (All images submitted to the 2011 International Awards Competition); FotoWeek DC-The Uncover/Discover Series; PhotoPhilanthropy-Right Before Our Eyes; Facing Change: Documenting America; Women Photojournalists of Washington - 2011 WPOW Annual Juried Exhibition; Embassy of Spain, Alberto Shommer Retrospectiva 1942-2009; 2011 FotoWeek DC Youth Contest Winners; Critical ExposureThrough the Lens of DC Youth; Contact Press Images-The Nights of 9/11: Photography by Hale Gurland and 2011 FotoWeek DC Cherry Blossom Contest Winners. Saturday, November 5 & Sunday, November 6 An integral part of the festival is having access to advice and knowledge from some of the best photographers in the business. Renowned photojournalists, fine art and commercial photographers, curators and photo editors are scheduled to reveal their know-how, tricks of photography and all it entails. Full schedule & tickets will be available on the website soon. Saturday, November 4 – Saturday, November 12 FotoDC’s expansive collection of photography books is continuing to grow. A library containing some of the greatest published works of national and international photography will be on display and available for browsing. Free with registration.

Workshops
Sunday, November 6 Partnering with Momenta Workshops and Leica Camera, FotoWeek DC is pleased to present "The Art & Business of Nonprofit Photography." This one-day intensive workshop will strive to educate and inspire photographers who want to become successful as nonprofit photographers. The workshop will feature lectures from 9:30am to 4:00pm, including “How to Fund a Personal Project” and “How to Make Nonprofits Work for You;” a portfolio presentation by Justin Maxon, Razon Collective & winner of Cliff Edom's New America Award in 2011; Lunch with Leicas, where attendees can take out a Leica M9 or X1 to field test; and a lively panel discussion about the hiring process.
