Our Message

Art creates culture. Culture shapes values. Values determine the future. The fascination of art has to do with time. Visual art is the quickest of all serious cultural forms to make its full nature clear to the beholder. It's worth dwelling on the rapidity of art. It is conventional, in the moralizing rhetoric of the critic, to say Rembrandt repays a lot more time than most works of art - you can look at his pictures for a lifetime and still find new depth in them. But what if this is not the most important thing about great art? What if it's the instant effect that matters? So it's not always true that great art takes a long time to appreciate and instantaneous art is shallow. In fact, some of the most revered paintings can be appreciated much more quickly than video art - which has, as I've already conceded, brought narrative time into the gallery. Why is time-based art so popular? Does it seem more important because it takes up time? Personally, I agree with Leonardo da Vinci. The most magical thing in art is the instant and complete image.

MESSAGE FROM

THE EDITOR Imagination Is More Inportant Than Knowledge

The transformation of a team happens in the hands of great imaginative leaders, not in indulgent knowledge seekers. While some form of education is generally a prerequisite for progress, we need to understand the balance between knowledge and imagination. Today’s leader should understand both past and present experiences of his/her team, and use that knowledge to cultivate creative progress and imaginative learning. As Einstein suggests, it is our imagination that will propel us to great strides in moving our teams and businesses forward. So how do you imagine yourselves as a different team? By setting BHAGs (Big Hairy Audacious Goals) to stimulate progress and guide your team through the process of creating a Vision and Mission statement. This creative procedure can help encourage your team to think of themselves and opportunities in new ways. When we can focus people on what they can become, we see small changes in the otherwise mundane. Having a Mission and Vision statement clarifies a team’s purpose and allows them to confidently contribute to the creative process. Basically, it puts all workers on the same page and allows them to work in synergy. A mission is simply asking yourself, “what do I need to do everyday to be successful?” While a vision statement is more aligned with, “if we do what we need to everyday, we will have succeeded.” It is important to reference your business’s mission in moments of confusion – the ideal mission statement will refresh you of your business’s goals and put you back on the right track. Give your teams the creative power to solve business challenges by providing clear and concise Mission and Vision statements and letting their imagination handle the rest. “LOVE ART AND LOVE INPRINT MAGAZINE AS MUCH AS WE DO”

As a freelance illustrator and only 6 months out of school, I would recommend this magazine to anyone else who is on the same boat. I just wish this magazine would help more designers and give them more gives advice on how the industry works like giving a list of top design studios. That would give anyone ideas on what they need to do to keep business flowing. Natan Rogers | “ Illustrator and Designer” InPrint is a good mag but not like any mag out there! I love it becuase it’s different from all other magazines today. They all showcase more ads than content. I really their content. Very original clean and space conscience. Drew P | Art Center

Great magazine for any creative out there! great visuals on design , illustration, and everything else that involves creation. NEVER DISAPPOINTS! Vintage girl | collage artist I had to get the magazine for a class. The teacher mentioned it and I was completely hooked. I just wished it would cover more of other design fields as well. I’m in graphic design major and I was looking for the cherry on the pie here. But overall, for the money saved, its a good magazine Al Gary | Russia

For the greatest inspiration of Art and Artists, the priority is to "lose oneself." Ultimately, an artist is motivated to realize that Higher Self, the completely inspired Self every artist know in their moments of pure expression.. the making of love that motivates pure inspiration. This is when what IS is! These are our spires of inspiration. True words of motivation are like best religious inspirational sayings. This almost incomprehensible motivation embodies the I AM of Moses, the burning bosom, the undressing of flesh to reveal a naked soul, as if touching and tasting dewdrops of spilt blood. Emotional scars upon souls often scream within chalices of pain; nonetheless, tongues can reach hitherto heights, waxing wicks of flight seeking to soar as the light embodies the words of motivation herself.

It was love at first click! The ability to save a moment in time with a capture is my ultimate exhilaration. I was born and raised in South Africa, and lived most my life in San Diego, California where I now reside. Communicating ideas through photography has always been my preferred outlet. In 2009, while living in Tel-Aviv Israel, I picked up a camera on a quest to share with the world the way I viewed life through my lens; I have not yet been able to set it down. Georges-Pierre Seurat Georges Seurat was born into a very rich family in Paris. His father, Antoine Chrysostom Seurat, was a legal official and a native of Champagne; his mother, Ernestine Faivre, was Parisian. Georges Seurat first studied art with Justin Lequiene, a sculptor. Seurat attended theEcole des Beaux-Arts in 1878 and 1879. After a year of service at Brest military academy, he returned to Paris in 1880. He shared a small studio on the Left Bank with two student friends before moving to a studio of his own. For the next two years he devoted himself to mastering the art of black and white drawing. He spent 1883 on his first major painting - a huge canvas titled Bathers at Asnieres.

After his painting was rejected by the Paris Salon, Seurat turned away from such establishments, instead allying himself with the independent artists of Paris. In 1884 he and other artists (inclu ding Maximilien Luce) formed the Societe des Artistes Indepen dants. There he met and befriended fellow artist Paul Signac. Seurat shared his new ideas about pointillism with Signac, who subsequently painted in the same idiom. In the summer of 1884 Seurat began work on his masterpiece, Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, which took him two years to complete. Later he moved from the Boulevard de Clichy to a quieter studio nearby, where he lived secretly with a young model, Madeleine

Knobloch. In February 1890 she gave birth to his son. It was not until two days before his death that he introduced his young family to his parents[citation needed]. Shortly after his death, Madeleine gave birth to his second son, whose name is unknown, and who died at birth or soon after. The cause of Seurat’s death is uncertain, and has been attributed to a form of meningitis, pneumonia, infectious angina, and/or diphtheria. His last ambitious work, The Circus, was left unfinished at the time of his death.

España Garcia ILLUSTRATOR

España Garcia is a freelance artist currently residing in San Diego, California. She received her Bachelors in Art History, Criticism and Curating from UCSD in 2010. She moved to the U.S. at the age of ten with her family from Hermosillo Sonora Mexico. Before receiving her degree from UCSD España took her last two electives in painting. Not knowing her potential as an artist at the time, España’s Professor of Art, Ernest Silva, played a large roll in encouraging her to become the artist she is today. Moved by the late professor’s words “Our gifts are not for us to keep,” España began exposing her art in galleries and group art shows throughout San Diego. It wasn’t long before España was commissioned on a regular basis both locally and internationally. Her acrylic paintings done on wood are inspired by street art, realism, surrealism, and the human condition. InPrint | Spring 2014

Tell me about your childhood, where did you grow up? I was born and raised in the central part of Italy, in a city named L’Aquila right under the highest peaks of the Apennines mountains. How did you first get into illustration? Are you self taught or you went to school for it? As everyone who loves to draw, I started as soon as I was able to hold a pencil. Since then I think I never quit drawing! I’m a selftaught, never attend art school or took lessons to learn technical skills; it was always a passion I didn’t even imagine I will do this for working one day....I guess I took it seriously, about 4 years ago, when I bought my first digital tablet. I have always

Giulio passion is art, ever since he was a child, Giulio was attracted to this field. He is a self-taught artist exploring different techniques from acrylic paintings to ink and chalks drawings. Giulio discovered a new world when he started drawing with a digitizing tablet and could express his creativity and improve his artistic skills. “I just love artworks that catch my eye and tell stories behind the image”. Giulio likes to use great techniques and clean styles no matter what kind of medium he uses. experimented with traditional art methods but when I started with the digital it was kind of a love at first sight. Such a great means, which gives you lots of chances to refine your abilities and maybe find some unknown talents! I began to realize and post online my drawings then I started getting some portraits commissions...and in a blink of an eye I’ve noticed a good circulation of my works and almost at the same time I received requests for publishing and features, guess it was then I began to get into this amazing field.

Your work has a refreshing look to it that stands out well in a growing sea of Illustration. What are some visual influences that make their way into your work?

Could you share your mental approach to developing concepts for your Illustrations and the technical side of your creative process? I don’t usually split my design process into separate steps and I don’t set fixed time for each step. I consider each step as an assemble starting from the concept, leading to a sketch and finally the end result.
