El Caribe Mexicano figura dentro de éste importante crecimiento, lo cual no es de extrañarse, ya que en éste lugar literalmente se puede jugar golf “rodeado del paraíso”; pues las maravillas naturales que se caracterizan en esta región de México, acompañan al golfista durante todo su recorrido en campos rodeados de selva tropical alta, junto al mar de aguas turquesa, manglares,

La Riviera Maya será la anfitriona, por primera vez en México, de un torneo oficial de la PGA en Febrero del 2007. Después de una exhaustiva inspección por parte del comité internacional de la PGA (Professional Golfers Association) la Riviera Maya se honra en ser elegida como el lugar apropiado para realizar este torneo.
The Riviera Maya will host, for the first time in Mexico, an official PGA tour on February 2007. After an exhaustive inspection by PGA members, the Riviera Maya was given the honor of being chosen as the ideal location for this tournament.
Éste magno acontecimiento denominado como “Mayakobá Classic” se llevará a cabo del 19 al 25 de febrero del 2007 en el campo “El Camaleón”, un Par 72 de 7 mil 67 yardas diseñado por el “Tiburón” Greg Norman. El 13 de Enero de éste año, el comisionado Tim Finchem dijo en un comunicado: “El tour de la PGA está muy emocionado por hacer historia en el golf en México; una de nuestras metas es expandir los alcances del golf y México ha demostrado una pasión creciente por la disciplina”. The Present The fact that the Mexican Caribbean already counts with nine beautiful and fully-operational golf courses, some of them even certified as amongst the best in the world by important and historical international golf organizations, takes most by surprise. The four other courses that are currently under construction and the ones on the planning and development stage give the Mexican Caribbean a great variety to offer its visitors and its enthusiastic local players.
This grand event, known as the ¨Mayakoba Classic¨, is scheduled to take place on February 19th thru the 25th on the ¨El Camaleon¨ golf course, a par 72 with 7067 yards designed by the ¨Shark¨ Greg Norman. PGA significa Professional Golfers Association, en español Asociación de Golfistas Profesionales, su historia se remonta a 1916, cuando tras una reunión organizada y dirigida por el magnate Rodman Wanamaker, se decidió formar la asociación estadounidense de golfistas profesionales. Como consecuencia se debía organizar un campeonato de golf profesional que enfrentara a los mejores jugadores del momento.
The beginnings of the PGA, which stands for Professional Golfer´s Association, date back to 1916 when magnate Rodman Wanamaker decided to form an organization to bring together professional golf players in the USA. As a result, a professional tournament had to be organized to put the best players in one same course.

Desde entonces el “PGA Championship” se ha convertido en uno de los principales campeonatos de cada temporada sumándose al Masters de Augusta, al British Open y al US Open para formar lo que hoy se denomina como los 4 grandes.

• Los romanos practicaban un juego con un palo curvado y una bola hecha de plumas que podría ser el antecedente del juego de golf. Algunos historiadores sostienen que se habría originado en los Países Bajos y que el término proviene de la palabra holandesa “kolf” que significa palo.
• Romans played a game with a curved stick and a ball made out of feathers that may be the early beginnings of golf. Some historians believe that it may have originated in the Netherlands and that the dutch word for ¨kolf¨, which means ¨clubs¨ or stick, is the origin of the word ¨golf¨.
• Las primeras noticias sobre éste deporte provienen del S. XV, en Escocia, donde -según cuenta la leyenda- el golf tiene 18 hoyos porque el whisky tiene 18 medidas. • En la década de los 60, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus y el sudafricano Gary Player llegaron a formar el “Moderno Triunvirato” convirtiéndose así en los primeros golfistas millonarios. • Las pelotas de golf tienen hoyuelos porque así viajan mucho más lejos; al volar por el aire, su velocidad disminuye y luego la pelota cae al suelo. La resistencia del aire (fuerza que se opone al movimiento de la pelota) es menor si la pelota tiene hoyuelos. • Al golpear la pelota de golf, por lo regular comienza a dar vueltas y continúa girando mientras vuela por el aire. La manera en la que gira determina hacia dónde se dirige. Puede ir en línea recta (y subir) o formar una curva hacia la derecha o hacia la izquierda, ésta es la pesadilla de todos los principiantes y la maestría del control de la pelota de los profesionales.

In the air their velocity diminishes and the ball hits the green. The air´s resistance is less if the ball has dimples on it. • Usually, once the ball is hit it rotates while it flies thru the air. This is the nightmare of all beginners and the mastery of control of professionals.

• Riviera Cancún Golf Club, de 18 hoyos, ya ha iniciado su construcción y también será firmado por el inigualable Jack Nicklaus.

GOLF AND ECOLOGY GO HAND IN HAND IN THE MEXICAN CARIBBEAN
Preocupados por el cuidado y conservación de la Ecología, la empresa Palace Resorts, junto con los arquitectos del grupo Jack Nicklaus, construyeron un campo de golf ecológico en el Caribe Mexicano: Moon Spa & Golf Club, el primero en la zona y en nuestro país; donde el cuidado del medio ambiente es la base sobre la cual se diseña, construye y opera este tipo de proyectos en el futuro.
Concerned for the care and conservation of the ecology, Palace Resorts, along with the architects from the Jack Nicklaus Group, built an ecological golf course on the Mexican Caribbean: Moon Spa & Golf Club, the first in the country. The base for its design, construction, and operation is the environment and its natural resources.
Las prioridades que se tomaron en esta innovadora construcción fueron proteger al máximo los mantos acuíferos, los humedales y bajos inundables, así como conservar en lo posible los ecosistemas presentes en el predio.
The priorities to be preserved during this innovative construction were to protect as much as possible the humid zones, the flood banks, and the wetland waste bunkers as well the ecosystems already in existence.
Además se estableció un Programa Integral de Manejo Ambiental, para asegurar el estricto cumplimiento del establecido en la Manifestación de Impacto Ambiental y en el oficio de autorización de parte de las autoridades ambientales.
They also put into effect a Program for Integral Environmental Management to assure the strict enforcement of the accords of the Manifest of Environmental Impact set by environmental authorities.

El golf en México comienza una nueva era, la más importante en su historia dentro de nuestro país, pues en Febrero de 2007, la Riviera Maya se convertirá en sede de uno de los Torneos de Golf oficiales de la PGA Professional Golfers Association. Golf in México has evolved into a new era, the most important one to date in our country, thanks to the announcement that on February 2007 Riviera Maya will host one of the official PGA golf tournaments. This exciting accomplishment will take place in El Camaleón golf course, where the best ranked golf players will unite. The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, IAAPA, granted it this award during its yearly EXPO, held in Atlanta, Georgia, in the “Amusement Parks outside United States” category. During the first edition of the “Must See Waterpark” awards in 2005, Ana Elisa Benavent, vicepresident of memberships and marketing services explained why the IAAPA decided to create this award: “The goal is to select the world’s amusement parks that stand out of the rest by providing their visitors a unique and memorable experience, based on an excellent guest service, as well as the highest standards of operation, facilities and safety”.

The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) was founded in 1918. It is a non-profit organization that represents more than 4500 businesses or facilities devoted to entertainment (theme or water parks, family entertainment centers, zoos, aquariums and museums) as well as their providers and collaborators in more than 85 countries. Avenida. Con un lleno total, gran dosis de rock en español y todo tipo de música para bailar, éste bar festejó con bombo y platillo que sus puertas ya están abiertas para Playa del Carmen. To the sound of electric guitars the lights turned on in Bliss (4th Street, steps away from 5th Ave) on the night of its inauguration. The place was jam packed and with a great dose of spanish rock and all sorts of dancing music all celebrated with a festive attitude that the doors to Bliss are now open in Playa del Carmen.
