ENERGY EFFICIENCY

TIP OF THE MONTH

Make it a habit to regularly replace or clean the filter in your air conditioner. By replacing a dirty or clogged filter, you can lower your air conditioner's energy consumption by 5 to 15 percent.

Homemade Peach Ice Cream

Ingredients:

2 ½ lbs. peaches - peeled, pitted, and chopped

1 pint half-and-half cream

½ cup white sugar

1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk

Directions:

1 (12 oz.) can evaporated milk

1 tsp. vanilla extract

2 cups whole milk

Working in batches, purée peaches with half-and-half and sugar in a blender or food processor. Mix peach mixture, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla in a gallon ice cream freezer container. Pour enough whole milk into the container to reach the fill line, about 2 cups. Pour mixture into an ice cream maker and freeze according to manufacturer's instructions, about 20 minutes. Transfer to an airtight container and freeze until firm, about 4 hours.

Generator Safety

Member-Owners July 2023

Generators can be helpful in an emergency or an extended outage, but it's important to know how to use them safely. Only operate your generator in a dry outdoor area with plenty of ventilation. Use a transfer switch to avoid back-feeding. Back-feeding occurs when energy leaves the generator and goes back into the utility electrical equipment. This can be dangerous for linemen and others working in the area.

POWER OUTAGES

Your cooperative is dedicated to safely providing reliable electricity at an economical cost. While we would like to guarantee electricity 100 percent of the time, we are proud to consistently maintain a reliability level above 99.9 percent.

Unfortunately, there are occasional instances when external factors cause power outages. When an outage does occur, our crews are always on standby ready to safely restore power as quickly as possible.

It is important that our members are also ready when an outage occurs. Below are a few things you can do to prepare:

Keep a FLASHLIGHT in a location with easy access to all family members.

Consider installing an UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SUPPLY (UPS) to provide a battery backup for critical electronics.

Have a PORTABLE CHARGER or POWER BANK available to charge cell phones and tablets.

If you install and utilize a GENERATOR be sure to follow the safety guidelines on the front of this insert.

Know your MEDICAL NEEDS - if you have medicine that needs to remain refrigerated or a medical device that requires electricity, have a backup plan in place.
