YOUR MEMBERSHIP.
Decatur County REMC is a not-for-profit electric cooperative governed by a board of directors made up of Decatur County REMC members. As a member, YOU are an owner.
CAPITAL CREDITS
One benefit of cooperative membership is the allocation of capital credits. As a not-for-profit cooperative, any margins that Decatur County REMC generates which exceed expenses are allocated back to our members in the form of capital credits. Decatur County REMC retires, or pays capital credits on a 30 year cycle. Capital credits represent a significant source of equity for the cooperative and reflect each member’s ownership in, and contribution to, the cooperative.
ANNUAL MEETING & DIRECTOR ELECTION
Members are invited and encouraged to attend the Annual Meeting each year. The purpose of the Annual Meeting is to conduct any cooperative business, announce elected directors, and celebrate you. Information about the Annual Meeting and Voting will be sent to each member by mail, along with all outlets of member communication.

OUTAGE INFORMATION.
At Decatur County REMC, we strive to ensure you have reliable electric service, but sometimes, outages occur. In the event you experience an outage, we promise that we have a dedicated team of employees working around the clock to restore service.
Before you report an outage, ensure that the problem is not on your side of the electric meter by doing the following:
Check your electrical panel to make sure breakers and/or fuses are in working order.
Check for an exterior main breaker (common with manufactured homes).
Check to see if your neighbors have power.
Once you've determined the outage is not on your side, report to us by:
• Using the SmartHub mobile app
• Online through your SmartHub account
• By phone at 800-844-7362
NEVER REPORT OUTAGES ON SOCIAL MEDIA OR BY EMAIL. THESE ARE NOT MONITORED 24/7.
RESTORATION PLAN
To restore power to the greatest number of members as quickly as possible during a widespread power outage, we follow a system that repairs the largest transmission lines first, followed by substations, main distribution lines, tap lines, and then lines that serve individual members.

Current outages will appear on Decatur County REMC’s outage map.

SAFETY FIRST
NEVER attempt to touch or move a downed power line. Stay far away from power lines at all times and warn others to do the same. The ground around a downed power line and anything it touches may be conducting electricity and can cause serious injury or death if touched. If you see a downed power line call 911 immediately.

REBATES.
Decatur County REMC has a long history of supporting members with rebate incentives to offset the purchase and installation costs of heating and cooling equipment. We’ve been able to do this, in part, with support from our generating and transmission cooperative, Hoosier Energy. It’s important to maintain the electric load of our system and to do so in a responsible manner.
Residential equipment that we offer rebate incentives for includes:
Geothermal
Air Source, Mini-split, Dual Fuel Heat Pumps
Hybrid Water Heaters
We also offer rebates incentives on electric outdoor equipment including lawnmowers, string trimmers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, snowblowers, roto-tillers, and pressure washers.

OPERATION ROUNDUP.
WHAT IS OPERATION ROUND UP?
As a member of Decatur County REMC you have a unique opportunity tomake a difference in our local communities by participating in the Operation Round Up program.
Operation Round Up is a charitable fundraising program for Decatur County REMC members to have their electric bill rounded up to the next whole dollar. Operation Round Up helps co-op members reach out to worthy causes in their communities and work together to help others.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Each month your bill is rounded up to the next whole dollar. These few extra cents are donated to the Operation Round Up fund. Your donation amount is listed on your bill statement each month. Statements received in January will also have the previous year's Operation Round Up total for tax purposes.
WHO DETERMINES WHERE FUNDS GO?
The Decatur County REMC Community Trust, Inc. is a separate entity with its own board of directors who oversee the Operation Round Up funds. The directors of the trust are members of Decatur County REMC and will receive and review applications from organizations requesting funding for charitable purposes and decide how to distribute funds according to the bylaws of the trust.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR FUNDING?
Any organization within the Decatur County REMC service area can apply for funding one time per calendar year. The organization does not have to be a member of Decatur County REMC. Funds will not be used to pay utility bills or any type of political contributions.
