Trekking Tagua Tagua Valley

Day 1 Arrival In Puerto Varas

Transfer from the airport of Puerto Montt to Puerto Varas. Here, you meet your guide for a briefing that prepares you for the upcoming trekking. Rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2 Puerto Varas – Tagua Tagua Valley – Refugio Alerce

Drive on idyllic country roads to Reloncaví Fjord, a narrow estuary of the eponymous Pacific bay that lies in front of Puerto Montt. We follow its shoreline until reaching the valley formed by Puelo River. We cross the lake Tagua-Tagua on a short boat ride in order to reach Tagua Tagua Park, a private protected area. Mostly ascending, a fourhour hike takes us to Alerce Lagoon, where we spend the first night in a “refugio”, a mountain hut. (B, L, D) Day 3 Refugio Alerce – Refugio Quetrus

Today’s hike leads us deeper into the valley that was carved into the mountain range. We pass waterfalls and millennial Alerce trees. After around four hours, we reach the glacier-fed Quetrus Lagoon, where we spend the night in another mountain hut. (B, L, D)

Day 4 Laguna Quetrus – Lago Tagua Tagua – Puerto Varas

Today we walk all the way back to Tagua Tagua Lake, from where we started our trek two days ago. The path is mostly descending. The boat awaits us at the trailhead, and after crossing the lake another time, we drive back to Puerto Varas. (B, L)
